1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2022

You did a recall for the power steering when I check to see if my vehicle is part of the recall the information said no. You need to change this because I've always had issues with my power steering locking up and being unable to turn. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. The eps light is always on and the dealership is no help at all. I need this to be taken care of.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2021

I have a significant defect and safety issue with my 2010 Hyundai Elantra that should be recalled by Hyundai. There seems to be a problem with the automatic gear shifter. The first issue is intermittent where the car does not turn on or even make a clicking noise when I try to turn the key in the ignition. This might make you think the battery is dead, but that is not the case. After a while of turning the car on and off, the car will eventually start. The second issue is that the gear shifter gets stuck and will not shift from one position to another. After much difficulty in getting it unstuck and shifting, the third and most significant problem is that the indicator as to which gear the car is in is not reflecting the actual gear that the car is in. This presents a real safety issue as the indicator will say that the car is in park, but the car will roll like it is in neutral so the only way to get this to stop is to put on the emergency break while parked. Shifting into a position that you think you’re in, but not actually in, can result in hitting a pedestrian or another car. In rare instances, the car will actually shift into the correct position indicated by the gear shifter while it is in park. You can find numerous results if you do a google search on the internet for the issues I’ve described above in Hyundai cars. Since the gear shifter is not working properly and is getting stuck, I feel this presents a significant safety issue should I need to get out of the way quickly in either a drive or reverse position or if I am expecting to be in a park position and the car keeps moving.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2021

December 4, 2021 while driving to san diego, CA, interstate 8w, Hyundai started jerking and pulling very hesitant. I took the car to my mechanic on December 13th and he informed me that the transmission had a slippage problem! shifting from 1st to 2nd and then again from 4th gear! bottom line, I needed another transmission! I called NHTSA at 888-327-4236 to report this issue, but only a written complaint was taken! we 2010 Hyundai Elantra owners need to file a civil lawsuit against Hyundai! there are numerous complaints that I've read regarding this same suspension faulty! please contact me elena 760-675-5972.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

2010 Hyundai Elantra hesitates and jerks when accelerating. This happened intermittently after a year or two after buying it brand new. At 160,000, it happens more frequently. This happens at about 30 to 40 miles an hour (sometimes higher while on highway). It happens on city street or highway. I have seen many complaints online about this and do not understand why it is not a recall.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2018

The transmission of the car will have hiccup when it shifts into different gears when driving around 30-40 mph.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2017

My transmission jerks when it changes gears and also when I put the car in reverse. I got the car from a Hyundai dealership and told them that there was a slight jerk in the transmission and the sales guy lied to me and said it was a cvt transmission and that they all do that. I went to a few transmission shops and the guys laughed at me because my car doesn't have a cvt transmission. They all did a tran scan and nothing came up on the scanner. The shops are trying to charge me hundreds of dollars just to open up the transmission to see what's wrong with it. It's so wack to be paying a car note on a car with a bad transmission. I looked online and found out that this is a common issue with this model of the Elantra and don't understand why there isnt a recall.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

For several months now my car feels as if it is slipping into neutral when I try to speed up on the highway. When I am doing city driving I can feel a jerking motion when accelerating from a stop position or slow movement. My car only has about 45,000 miles on it. Trying to get on the highway can become very nail biting when you try to speed up and your car slips into neutral. I find that I have to put the gas pedal to the floor, and get the rpms to 5, in order to get it into gear. I'm seeing far too many complaints regarding this and I'm not sure why it's not being recalled. Are they waiting for a fatality????.

12 Power Train problem

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection that it was told to the contact by the inspection technician that the vehicles transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,257. Wh.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

Engine turned off while I was at a stop light. I notice something was wrong when the car suddenly went silent without even the typical engine vibrations. The check engine as well as other notifications were illuminated on the dashboard. I cannot say exactly which ones because I was too focused on getting my car out of traffic. I turned the ignition key off and on again and that seemed to fix the problem (or at least the car started again and no warning lights were illuminated. ) this is an incredibly scary problem and I am thankful it happened while I was at a stop and was able to quickly get out of traffic. I plan to take the car back to the Hyundai service center as it was just there (3 days ago) for a 30k maintenance, recall fix, and headlight bulb replacement.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

A failing transmission in a low mileage car is an issue. At just over 51,000 miles my automatic transmission began jerking into gear between 2nd and 3rd. After having it diagnosed I was told they were able to "sort-of feel what I was talking about" and initially recommended a fluid change. When I asked questions about that, suddenly I was told it was in internal failure and I needed the transmission replaced. That evening the slipping got worse and the transmission hesitated going into reverse and had a big problem shifting up hills. With a transmission not shifting normally and power being affected because of that, this is a safety issue. This problem developed quickly and did not present itself as one might expect a failing transmission to do.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

I was approaching highway from city roads and I had to accelerate to get in the flow. Suddenly, I felt that even though I was accelerating, car did not gain speed. I checked rpms and it was quite high for the speed that car was moving. It looked to me as if car was in neutral gear but it was not. The car behind me almost hit my car because the driver was expecting my car to move faster. I had to stop on shoulder to check what is happening. I had this kind of experience before too but not like this one. Then it happened again when I got off the highway and I was back in city traffic. What my observation is, that when the automatic transmission goes from 2nd gear to 3rd, there is a problem. When I bought the car, even then the transmission was not smooth but there was no problem like the one I mentioned earlier. But as the mileage is increasing, the problem is getting bigger too. I do regular oil change as I have purchased service plan when buying the car. I had complained to the dealer service representative about it(transmission having problem) couple of times but they said they did not feel it. I think they were neglecting the problem because there is problem with transmission and that costs a big amount. I feel that this is a big problem even though I am not an expert.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle would hesitate before accelerating. The contact also stated that when the transmission was put into reverse, the vehicle would hesitate before suddenly moving backward. The vehicle was diagnosed but no problem was found. The contact indicated that the vehicle continued to experience the defect. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 25,000.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would lunge forward whenever shifting gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 37,400 and the current mileage was 37,420.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2012

This is not an isolated incident it is an ongoing problem with my vehicle. On my 2010 Elantra automatic transmission, it is as though the gears are not working. When the car is in drive the issue arises. In order to get the car to 40 mph I have to literally hit the gas and get the rpms to 5,000 or almost 6,000 before the car will shift. The car then shifts but when it is settling into 1000-2000 rpm's the power jerks as if it has lost power momentarily, this happens anytime you are trying to accelerate. Going up a small hill this car will go about 10-15 mph for more than 30 seconds. This is unacceptable and could be a safety issue if the transmissions go out completely while these cars are being driven. Loosing the ability to shift should be a concern here.
