Unknown but my car shakes and makes a loud grinding noise.
My car was recalled by Hyundai for a critical safety issue and has been at the dealership since July of 2024 awaiting repairs due to missing parts. Despite repeated follow-ups, Hyundai has been unable to provide a timeline for the repair. Recently, they offered to buy back the car, but the offer was far below its fair market value. When I declined, they stated they would return the car to me unfixed and unsafe. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and feels coercive, as I am forced to choose between accepting an unfair buyback or taking back an unsafe vehicle. I am seeking NHTSA's assistance to ensure Hyundai repairs the vehicle promptly, investigates their handling of recalls, and protects consumers from being placed in such unfair situations.
Unknown. When financing the vehicle through adonis auto group I was unaware of the unrepaired safety recall. Also I am under the impression nothing was done to the car before purchasing it, I have had to make repairs to the car only after 10,000 - 15,000 miles of driving. For example replacing the control arm, axle, brake hardware. My point is they are selling cars without repairing them and not advising the customer upon purchase. I also asked for the repair paperwork for what has been done to the car before purchase and never received it.
On February 14, 2023, around 6:30 pm the right front passenger front coil spring broke on my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. I was driving while crossing railroad tracks when the front end dropped down on the right side and the car wouldn’t move. I continued to push the accelerator to get my car off the tracks and on the side of the road- spring cut my tire ripping the inner tire wall. I made several calls to Hyundai (springfield IL dealership) and they informed although there was a current recall (number 15v629000) on this issue, I was advised that my VIN did not qualify. The reasoning was that my car's physical address didn’t qualify for the recall. I contested this with appropriate documentation that clearly showed the broken pieces with corrosion. I ended up suffering the cost of the towing bill and replacement of both strut assemblies. In March 2023, I received a recall (campaign - 984) to have an underbody cavity wax and anti-corrosion spray applied to prevent corrosion of components due to road salt. So, as I attempted to point out to Hyundai that my car and perhaps many others were at risk for these potentially fatal risk.
The rear suspension crossmember fractured allowing the lower suspension arm to move causing the wheel to move out at the bottom by a considerable amount. I noticed it after a short local trip. I think if I had continued driving the lower arm may have completely disconnected resulting in potential loss of control. The crossmember has significant corrosion in this area but the component should be thick enough to allow for this. The car is at my home address therefore has not been inspected by a dealer. I have contacted them and the manufacturer and neither offer any help.
Spring coil on strut broke off on passengers side of car. Sliced tired while driving. A couple years after getting that side repaired same exact thing happened on the driver's side.
The front subframe / crossmember has prematurely corroded at suspension mounting points. The control arm mount has rusted completely through resulting in the bottom half of the control arm mount becoming unstable and the control arm is at risk of full detachment.
My daughter was driving my 2011 Hyundai Elantra and she got a flat tire on the drivers side front. Upon inspection, I discovered that the front strut spring had fractured and part of it went through the sidewall of the tire. Found out that there is a recall for this exact problem for certain 2011 Elantras. Called the Hyundai customer service line and was told that this particular Elantra was not part of the recall. Why not? the recall is to replace springs that, because of corrosion caused by road salt used in winter in certain states (my state NJ being one of the states affected), fracture and puncture the tires. This is exactly what happened to this vehicle. I am working on getting Hyundai to make repairs but I don't have much hope.
On 8/14/2021 I entered NHTSA complaint number 11429117. This was in regard to a fractured front coil spring in my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Although there was a current recall (number 15v629000) on this issue, I was advised that my VIN did not qualify. Apparently the reasoning was that my car was built in a different location in alabama. I contested this with appropriate documention that clearly showed the broken pieces with corrosion. I ended up suffering the cost of replacement of both strut assemblies. As I had to go to an independent shop for my service I sent and escalated my issue through Hyundai to no avail. So now it's March 2023, and I receive a recall (excuse me, campaign - 984) to have an underbody cavity wax and anti corrosion spray applied to prevent corrosion of components due to road salt. So, as I attempted to pont out to Hyundain in 2021, my car and perhaps many others were at risk for these potentially fatal failures. Fortunately my spring broke as I entered my garage. Others may not have been so lucky. A break at high speed could take out a tire and that's the ball game. Continuing with the metaphor, Hyundai dropped the ball big time on this.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway, the front passenger's side strut spring fractured and punctured the front passenger's side tire. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front strut rods were damaged and need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 240,000.
According to my mechanic, rust on my coil spring caused it to fracture while driving and puncture my tire. My mechanic said it was "crazy" because there was a fresh fracture from it "snapping". I did some research and it sounds just like Hyundai recall #133. This recall involved rusting of the coil spring to 2011 Hyundai Elantras in states that use salt for snow removal, such as minnesota. I live in mn, so I called Hyundai to see if my car was included in the recall. They said it was not. I am wondering if it should have been considering there were known and similar issues with other vehicles of the same year, make, and model in minnesota. It should be noted, my vehicle was originally purchased in another state (I think louisiana or mississippi) and was not brought up to minnesota until 2013. After which I purchased it.
My vehicle doesn't feel safe and this is the second report I make. Please contact me about this matter. Thank you!.
The problem with my vehicle are many. When im driving it throws me to the side for any dents the street has, bad control. The coils are bad. The engine block has a noise that gets louder and louder every time I turn the car. Im not a mechanic but I know something wrong with my car control system.
When traveling above 40mph and going over bumps in road loss of control occurs. This creates the drive to over correct and cause traffic safety concerns with vehicles around the elentra as well as collision issues for elentra driver.
The left front mcpherson strut cracked and the spring punctured the tire. The car was towed to the dealer for repair. The dealer said that the right front spring was also broken except where it broke the spring did not damage the right front tire. The car was moving but slowly, thankfully at the time. I never had a spring break on any car I have ever owned, much less two springs on the same car. There is a recall for the same thing but Hyundai corporation says my car was not in the recall. Nhtsa campaign 15v629000.
As I was driving down the road less then a mile from home. I heard a loud clunking sound and seen a part of my coil spring bouncing across the road in my rearview mirror. I have already had to replace the coil spring on the driver side of this car as at another time when pulling out of a parking spot the coil spring broke off and punctured the tire.
In 2016 left front coil broke and took damage to tire Hyundai took and replaced it for your charged only one coil was replaced on the car in 2019 the other coil broke customers charged $966. 30 to do the repair and replace the tire Hyundai says there's no recall on the springs for this vehicle yet I did find a recall saying there was but they're telling me that the serial numbers was no recall on that.
While driving on the highway my car suddenly lurched and a disturbing noise started coming from the front on my car. Please see the attached problem description pdf and accompanying photos.
Recall 133 for 2011 Hyundai Elantra, I have owned this car for about a year and a half. (many problems since I owned it) but yesterday a coil spring broke and slashed the inside of my tire, very dangerous! I had to get my car towed. My mechanic daid there is a recall but Hyundai wouldn't recognize it. He also it's the third car he's had to repair fir broken Hyundai coil springs!! is there anything you can do to help?.
2011 Elantra spring coil failure. . . Our family has great concerns to the public safety regarding the risk management activities by Hyundai on NHTSA campaign number 15v629000 (manufacturer recall 133). Reviewing the 20 NHTSA recall documents attached to this recall and our own personal experience, we believe that the risk management activities, including: failure investigation, corrective/preventive actions and range of vehicles affected needs to be revisited. . . See attached pdf and images for details.
Driving over a speed bump both front spring broke causing a front tire to be punctured.
I had already opened a case and was working with a david baker 11131845. He had asked me to try to locate the piece of broken spring that punctured my tire. I was able to locate that but once I emailed david I received an email back saying that his email address was no longer active. If someone could take a look at my case and contact me via email and let me know if they still want to look at that part. Thank you!.
My car has making noise for a while. Emailed Hyundai and was told it is not under warranty and no recall for engine. Several complaints ha e been made online for this car regarding the engine which needs to be replaced. I'm afraid to drive it's my only car and I can't afford to pay $5000 for a new engine. I was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection when the car stalled and sounded like it was going to grind the engine up.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while backing out of the driveway the front drivers side suspension spring fractured causing a puncture to the front drivers side tire. The vehicle was towed to the dealer(unknown) who diagnosed that the suspension had fractured. No further information was available. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 47,000. Jft.
I was driving to work in pittsburgh. While in motion, my passenger side spring split in half, severing the passenger side tire. The spring broke instantly without warning and left me stranded in heavy am traffic. I am requesting full reimbursement for all damages and a full day of work tha was missed because of this major malfunction.
Well driving I started to hear a clanking noise and pulled over. I looked under my car to see a piece of metal hanging under my car. Long story short my front driver side spring snapped and punctured my wheel. I took it to the dealership to have it fixed and was told there was a recall on that part, after doing some investigation they told me even tho there was a recall on my exact make and model my VIN wasn't one of the cars being covered. Is there anything I can do to fight this!?.
Was driving the car down the road and the tire popped will I was approaching another vehicle. Had to call and get a tow, I couldn't bring it to Hyundai because none were open at the time. Was brought to a local shop thinking it was only a tire. Further investigation showed that the spring on the strut had broke and was rubbing against the tire which lead it to pop. Looked to see if there was any recalls for this problem and there was. I called up Hyundai customer service which was on the recall forms and they said it's not covered under there recall because the car was manufactured a month after the years listed. I had the same exact problem as the recall regarding the strut/spring to break causing it to puncher the tire but they said it wont be covered? I have pictures of this exact problem and also the damage to the tire.
Front and back struts/shocks need to be replaced and airbag light stays on.
The left front strut and springs broke after hitting a pot-hole coming out of a grocery store. I pulled out of the parking lot once the traffic light turned green. Have hit potholes before without breaking struts or springs. Springs for my 2011 hyuandai Elantra are on back-order.
The suspension on my car is terribly unsafe. When driving over any bumps in the road the rear end wobbles and sways back and forth. In rain or snow the car feels like it is going to lose control on a few occasions the back end has slid out a bit causing corrective action to be taken. This apparently is a major problem but Hyundai refuses to acknowledge it. I have been in for the problem 5 times with no solution.
This is the second set of brand new tires (michelins) that has failed in less than 25k miles on the 17" rims this car came with. Every small pothole is felt so strongly, the wipers go on and the glove box pops open. There is very little rubber bet. The rim and the road. We don't want to end up dead in a ditch when one of these tires blows out. As noted on the Hyundai blogs, this is a common problem with this model and folks are just waiting for a class action or recall action to happen. Hopefully this will happen before someone is seriously injured or killed.
I have had broken shocks and struts on my 2011 Hyundai Elantra liminted, currently 69000 miles 2 times, once replaced by dealership 2nd done by big o tires in salt lake, I did not have a breakdown, my tire blew the first time 12/26/2015, currently was caught by general tire mainainance. This must be some kind of a defect due to have them replace them so often. 2 incidents 12/26/2015 and 10/12/2022. I take very very good care of my car. I have read the issues of prior. Please contact both murdock Hyundai murray utah & ken garff salt lake city utah and big o downtown salt lake city.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the tire anchor sensor warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v629000 (suspension) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,718. Parts distribution disconnect.
My Hyundai makes a clunking noise from the front end. It happens whenever I shift from park to drive/reverse, drive to reverse, and vice versa, and also if I speed up, or slow down quickly. I tried getting the vehicle checked out at a dealer, and I was told "I don't know why, but many of the Elantra's come from factory making that noise, and we don't know why. Obviously, if it was a safety issue, then Hyundai would have issued a recall by now. " I was upset by this statement, because it does cause my vehicle to jerk when I am accelerating and breaking, as well as other strange things, so I am concerned that there is a safety issue here. I did buy this vehicle pre-owned, and it has been happening since the day I bought it. I brought the vehicle back to try to get it repaired under warranty, but I was told that there wasn't anything that could be done to fix the issue. I feel really uncomfortable driving my own vehicle when there is something wrong with it, and according to the dealer, there is nothing I can do to resolve this issue.
Engine runs rough at idle . . Buy 89 octane gas in the winter time. Drive shaft is defective. . . . . Buy a new bearing and drive shaft from the dealer and make certain the new one is not defective. I replaced the bearing only and it appaers to be fine, for now. . . . . . . . Tires wear out extremely fast. . . . Buy new shocks and struts earlier than you had to on the more expensive foriegn cars.
