3 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2019

Just bought the 2013 Hyundai Elantra, 12/21/2019, after about 100 miles of driving we noticed the steering wheel is off center. While driving in town and on highway shifting lanes it didn't want to go and it will pull hard left or right almost causing to run off the road. 12/25/2019, while on the way home I almost struck another car. More noticeable from 30 to 55 worse over 55. Driving on dirt road feels like it wants to fish tail. Steering is sticky yet a lot of play. Intermittingly while braking it sounds like scrapping like when your brakes are bad. Braking slowly or abruptly makes no change. Wet roads is worse with braking.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Esc indicator is on on the dash board due to steering angle sensor circuit-signal issue.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2019

The steering wheel has a click in it . The eps light and traction light came on at the same time went too the dealership but they said it wasn't a recall on this common problem it happen all at once at city speed.

6 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Car was parked and locked with all systems off. Later I noticed brake lights on. Called Hyundai and informed them inquiring if there was a recall about this problem. They told me to take to dealer and have them perform diagnostic to determine cause. They said it was brake light switch. Dealer changed switch(2),relay. Problem still exist.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

My steering column makes an awful noise like a clicking noise the whole time I'm driving it really scares me but I have to drive it bc it's my only means of transportation. Now my break lights all the way across doesn't work and it's not a fuse. Last thing is my airbag light stays on also which scares me . Please some one help get these issues resolved quickly I'm the second owner so I probably haven't gotten the recalls about these issues. Please please help me . Thank you.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

About 3 months ago my 2013 Hyundai Elantra became sluggish in accelerating. It has gradually gotten worse. I tried fuel cleaners, premium gas, and now a tune up replacing coil packs and plugs. The vehicle crawls and does not accelerte as quick as it should. It cuts off or refuses to move when given gas at all stops. I switch off then on at red lights as it seems to want to take off when the engine is started. When I reach about 50mph the rpm hand guns and the bottoms out to stay at zero with no change in acceleration. There is now a whirring noise sporadically coming from the engine. After the ti e up the issues continue with cutting off ,rough idling, extremely slow snail accelleration with the engine light on.

9 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the stabilitrak and traction control warning indicators flashed, the steering wheel made an abnormal noise when turned in either direction, and the vehicle accelerated slowly when the accelerator pedal was depressed. Rancho grande motors (1404 auto park way, san luis obispo, CA 93405, (805) 543-4745) was notified of the failures. The vehicle was currently at the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 39,600.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Possible crankshaft sensor failure. Car will not start properly or stalls after starting and shifting gears. Happens every few months. New battery, spark plugs and tune up completed July 2018. No alternator/starter issues noted after mechanical testing.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

In December 2017 & January 2018 on multiple occasions the cars abs light came on for no apparent reason and the car would not stop as if the brakes were not applied at all. A vibration was noticed like the brakes would in a skidding situation but that was not the case. The failure resulted in a couple few calls and finally an accident . It was brought to the Hyundai dealership where we were told there were no failures or codes in the computer to indicate a problem. A week later we received a recall notice from Hyundai - NHTSA campaign number 17v-769 (Hyundai campaign 170). This was the stopper pad recall and it did fix the problem. Looking at the invoice from the dealer the recall was done but we were never told it was related to the problem. The recall notice did not seem to properly state the serious risk of the problem. It did state it could increase the risk of a crash but also stated "a deteriorated stopper pad does not affect the performance of the vehicle's service brake system". This was found obviously to not be true. I believe the notice should have stated not to drive the car until the recall was completed. We were lucky not to be injured but the car did have over a thousand in damage. We called and emailed the manufacturer but never received a response.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

This is a pubic recall. My car is experiencing the problems that has been warned. I would like to bring my car to get seviced to make sure their are no high risk to me as a driver. Thank you for announcing the problem with the vehicle.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem

Tl-contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra --- esc light came -- electronic steering light vehicle has 58000 miles on vehicle and is not under warranty --- called dealership and dealership stated vehicle is out of warranty . Steering locked up on contact and that contact had to pay for repairs. Contact left a voicemail for Hyundai dealership and dealership has not returned phone call. Contact given number to Hyundai cb.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

I went to apply the brakes and every light on the dashboard lit up and my brakes failed. When I took it to the shop they said it was a bad yaw sensor and a bad g sensor. I dont feel safe in my car anymore and Hyundai refuses to do anything about it.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2017

Our cruise control (cc) switches on the steering have stopped working! the behavior was un-predicable and dangerous for while when hitting cancel button would "engage" the cc. This is a serious safety issue since it could cause accidents. I believe this is due to the poor design on the connector that connects the wires from the cc switches to the steering case. The connector is placed right under the horn cover and we believe the connector gets squeezed every time the horn is used. I tested this myself and was able to get the cc to work after lifting the horn covers forward section which reduced the pressure from the connector right underneath it ! when I did this, hitting the cc. Once again this is a serious safety issue cause drivers could assume they are disabling the cc, when they could actually be activating cc which will cause accidents.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. While driving 30 mph, the esc warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle decelerated from 30 mph to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to north county Hyundai of carlsbad (located at 5285 car country dr, carlsbad, CA 92008, (760) 929-4900) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Unknown. The brakes are having difficulty holding up on the street while coming to a complete stop. Once stopped or stopping, there is a slight humming noise coming from the front wheels as if the car is having trouble staying in place. The back left tail light occasionally flickers on and off while driving and continues to flicker when tapped. The brake light is completely out now and has been adjusted before without replacement of the bulb. While driving on the street and night there are rare moments were the brake light and tail light will work again. The steering wheel has a hard time motioning and positioning itself when driving from five to twenty mile an hour, when turning and while making a u-turn. Nhtsa campaign number: 16v574000.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

Engine failure. Zero compression cylinder #1. Second time this has happened since purchase on 10/18/2016. Also, tire pressure problem, esc light comes on, dashboard gauges inoperative. Fuel mileage below what is advertised. Neither hundai nor enterprise will fix the problem after repeated demands. Also, there is a recall regarding "stopper pad" and stop lamp switch. Bought vehicle, cash, from enterprise car sales in montclair, CA. It was a "certified" used car, supposedly. Immediately I noticed that the engine sounded "tinny". Sounded like a sewing machine, it was knocking. Also, when I lifted the oil stick, smoke came out of engine. This was within 2 weeks after purchase. The car completely lost compression on interstate 10 in April, 2015. I told both Hyundai and enterprise who ignored my complaints. Finally, after several complaints and threats, enterprise took the car in and sent it to Hyundai dealership who claimed there was no problem. The car began losing power again in September, 2016 and finally stopped in the middle of the street in arcadia, CA. No compression. It had to be towed to my house. I took it to private shop who said "zero compression in cylinder #1, possible burned out valve '. See attached. Called hyindai and enterprise again. Both denied responsibility, and refused to do anything. I have to now pay over $1,000 to get engine rebuilt. This car is a lemon and I am enttied to refund or a new car.

19 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

Around 40,000 miles the car randomly would not start, leaving me stranded. I took the car in several times and dealership could not detect an issue. 2nd time I dropped off, a misfire was detected and ignition coils where replaced due to defected coils. I picked up my car and 11 days later the car wouldn't start up again. Its been in the shop for 3 weeks now. Last I heard they are replacing: the shifter assembly, transmission range switch, and brake switch. I have yet to hear if the parts came in and if this will fix the issue. I received a call on 11/3/2016 and now the engine needs to be replaced. There is a serious issue with the car failing to start and Hyundai cant even figure it out, as of today they had my car for a total of 25 days and still no resolution. Something needs to be done and recalled. Ive contacted Hyundai consumer affairs directly and have a case with them going on. I see several complaints of this same issue happening on this model, I hop this will somewhat help. Be consistent and don't take no for answer, I am still making car payments on something that is not working nor I have is unfair. Since the car is less than 60,000 miles this will be covered under warranty, it should of had to take me 3 times, calling a manger and going to consumer affairs for them to finally take my issue serious.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

I have noticed that my vehicle's airbag light is turning on and off while the vehicle is in motion on a city street and on highways. I do not know what triggers it to turn off and on. It also turns on and off while the vehicle is not in motion. I believe this is a major security issue because if I am involved in a major car crash and the airbags are not on then I will not be secured.

21 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

The esc indicator/traction control activated while I was driving 50 mph. I lost complete control of the vehicle, the car headed straight for a cement guardrail on a bridge. The car decelerated, I was unable to steer and the tires screeched on the ground. I was able to push the esc off button and recover control of the car, avoiding the crash. I knew about the off button only because we have had this problem since June and Hyundai was unable to fix it because it did not duplicate for them. Previously we were driving at a very slow rate of speed, this time it almost killed my daughter and me! my car has been with Hyundai auto-nation, columbus, GA since August 24, 2016 I called on August 25 but the car VIN # was not asked of me, the complaint ticket number is 1010763 the first time the esc activated my husband was driving. The esc turned on, while he was accelerating onto an on-ramp back in June 2016. We turned the car off, researched it on the side of the road, found the "off" button and brought to Hyundai the next day and they were unable to fix the problem! a week later the esc turned on in a parking lot while I was driving, hit the esc off button and the car behaved until Aug 24th. I called Hyundai to report, but since it didn't occur again, they said do not bring it in. On August 24th, the esc came on while I was in a school zone, I hit the off button, I took the off button off, to see if it would activate again so I could bring it into Hyundai (they said it had to be malfunctioning at the time of visit to be fixed) it malfunctioned! almost killing my myself and my daughter! if I hadn't known about the esc off button, I would definitely have crashed!.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph in snow, the back end of the vehicle would veer off of track as though it wanted to fish-tail. The contact stated that while attempting to turn off the ramp to get off the highway, the vehicle nearly lost control. The vehicle was taken the dealer for diagnosis, however the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000. Wh.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2015

Update to ticket # 1119161 - 4 separate appts, with,90 plus days accumulated total at a hyunda service center expanding 21 months and 15000 miles. 43 days at current service dept with no update, vehicle continues to stall while driving, electrical malfunctions continue to expand after interior was soaked from a confirmed/repaired defect in sunroof frame. Beyond the ability of service technicians to diagnose, engineer inspected and confirmed vehicle stalling while driving and messed up interior July 2016 from sunroof leak, repairs have been made but vehicle continues to stall while driving, in addition electrical malfunctions continue to devolop that Hyundai will not resolve, vehicle was in buyout review with Hyundai but was stopped due to my complaint filed which south carolina consumer affairs requesting a repurchase that Hyundai denied. Vehicle is not safe nor am I being told what's going on. If technician cant diagnose a confirmed issue by their engineer then why is vehicle still at service center and why are they not calling to advise after 43 days.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

Takata recall. My complaints involves the steering and brakes. When in motion and apply pressure to steering either direction nothing happens. Its very sticky. Apply more pressure and it over steers. His to the point that it is extremely aggravating and dangerous. When in motion the brakes chatter terribly. Even worse in rainy conditions. Vibrates the whole car. I found that Hyundai is well aware of these problems. Why haven't they corrected these problems ? are they simply using their buyers as guinea pigs ? or do they even care about the quality of their product. This is the second time I've made these complaints and as of now, still no response. Wasted my hard earned money for sure as well as my time. Thanks.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

On June 23, 2015, I hit a slight bump in the road as I was slowing to stop behind someone at a red light. Instead of stopping, it slowly continued and rear ended the car in front of me doing about $7,000 damage to the front of my 2013 Elantra. The dealer finally finished the repair work and returned the car to me on approximately July 31, 2015. Almost immediately, the esc and eps lights would go on intermittently and stay on for a day or so before returning to normal. I took it to the Hyundai dealer last Thursday, sept 27, 2015 to reset the computer and set the steering angle sensors which I had read about helping one person in this blog. It was seemingly normal when I took it to them. The car warranty was voided before I got it due to a prior collusion in which a prior insurance company wrote it off as costing more to fix than it was worth. A body shop purchased it and did the repairs and it is now classified a restored salvage title (hence no more warranty) even though was inspected by the state of arizona and deemed completely fixed. I paid to have the computer reset and the steering angle sensors adjusted. The dealer believed this would fix it. Two days later the esc and eps lights went back on and have stayed on for 4 days now. I have a code reader and there are no fault or error codes to clear but the lights stay on. I am somewhat convinced that the steering columns that house the steering angle sensors are faulty. When they malfunction, it makes the eps shut down. A recall to include these would be great. I cannot afford any exploratory repairs at this time and cannot drive the 2013 car. Please help!.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

Car will not start! everything comes on lights radio n etc. I had my battery check it great. Can't find a solution. I have been out several times and this has happened. I have lost income because of this issue.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I was coming off of interstate 95 onto my exit and I applied my brake to slow my car but my brake appraently gave out and was not working . It make a loud sound like it was trying to hold but it didnt and in order to stop my car from hitting any others or people standing at the side of the road I tried steering it toward the closest curb so that I could prevent as musch as possible within my power. My airbags didn't deploy but the car hit hard enough that my face slammed into the steering wheel, I sustained a concusion and damaged my face and glasses. I have muscle strains in my back, neck and still a swollen eye and cheek bone.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2014

Eps and esc lights came on and vehicle lost power steering. Problem is intermittent. Vehicle towed to dealership. Dealership is unable to replicate issue at this time. No fault codes found by dealership service dept. Dealer advised they will test vehicle again today (12/11/14) to try to replicate issue. Issue occurred several times (8 to 9) over a 24 hour period. Very dangerous situation as condition occurs randomly. Eps light will turn off and esc light stayed illuminated. Vehicle recovered on its own when eps light turned off. Both lights were off the following morning when towed to dealership after sitting overnight. Condition has occurred while making a u-turn, pulling out of drive way, and while making left and right turns.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

I bought my 2013 Hyundai Elantra gt on September 12, 2014, it had 41053 miles on it. As I left the dealership it was raining very hard and I noticed that it was very difficult to keep the car in my lane; my car was pulling to the right, not only that, I hit a bump or manhole and the bad end of the car fishtailed so bad that I thought I was going to hit the car that was in the right lane. I was driving a few days later, I hit another pothole and the car did that same thing but this time the roads were dry. At this point, I realize that the first incident had nothing to do with the roads being wet, it was the suspension on the car that's causes the car to pull to one side and for it to fishtail the way it does. I did some research and I realized that Hyundai owners have complained about this problem for quite sometime but the Hyundai corporation fails to acknowledge this as a problem; this is a very dangerous problem. To be honest, I'm a little frighten to drive my car; Hyundai corporation needs to acknowledge that there is a suspension problem with the make and model and they need to do something to correct this problem ASAP before someone loses their life.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

This car was purchased for my wife about a month ago and I drive it very little. When I have, the car seems to wonder real bad, much worse on new roads. It is almost like it floats side to side. This last weekend it kept drifting both ways and went off the road several times. The dealer claimed every thing is alright, but I know it should not wander like this.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

Just arrived at my residence when power steering stopped. Had to force car to turn in my drive. Electronic steering control and electronic power steering warning lights on. Delivered car to dealer on 8/19/2014. Dealer had car for three days for repair. New steering column with angle sensors had to be installed and adjusted. This was a very dangerous situation and the same thing has happened to other owners on this site.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2014

My 2013 Hyundai Elantra limited has the swerving problem. Any time I'm on an uneven patch of road or a bump, it's like I lose control of my car. You have to keep 2 hands on the wheel at all times to try & keep some control. I do not feel safe doing my weekly drive from DE to NY!!.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

Bought this car new as a closeout on may 30th 2014. I was on interstate 57 going south about 60 miles out of paducah ky driving the posted speed limit with the cruise control on. With no warning the car went to the left across 3 lanes and then back to the right 3 lanes and again to the left 3 lanes before I could regain control. The semi behind me just about jack knifed trying to avoid hitting me. It was only because the traffic was very light and the semi and I were the only ones on the road in that area at the time this happened, or there would have been a major accident. I took the car to the dealer in paducah they said it was my brakes, they cut the routers. I could not drive the car even after the repair over 55 mph as it would wander to the left and to the right. When I returned to my home state I took the car back to the dealer and told them to return it to Hyundai. I was told by the dealer that they never heard of this ever happening to anyone else. I have seen reports of others having the same problem so this is a cover up by Hyundai. The steering on the Hyundai is bad! there needs to be a major recall on this electronic steering. The complaints are from sonata owners also.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Recall please !! I spent my life savings on this car and it is dangerous to drive. The car fish tails over small bumps and at low speeds. In winter driving its almost out of control and a separate set of snow tires is mandatory so you don't get killed. When it crosses railroad tracks it actually tends to turn on its own onto the direction of the tracks ! if you hit a dip in the road the car seems to lose control. And at highway speeds forget it - it sways across the lanes on its own as if it is constantly catching the wind. I cannot drive it on the highway - I am white knuckled by just a short trip trying to keep control of this car. This car is more of boat then an automobile. If I sell the car my losses will be huge. I got a wheel alignment, tires and took it into the dealer all to no avail and the problem is getting worse as the car is aging too. Basically the dealer said this is the way the car is built too bad so sad.

35 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

Rental car, Hyundai Elantra 2013, from enterprise. Vehicle unsafe to drive, can lose steering control very easily, which I experienced first hand during rainy conditions. The other drivers in front and behind me did not have any issues with steering, but this vehicle lost control. . . Updated 07/15/14.
