1 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2025

Hi I recently brought my car in for recall repairs involving the abs fuse and brake pedal stopper. Right after the service, my traction control light came on, and the car struggled to move forward. I took it to a mechanic who said the front brakes were locked. When I brought it back to your service center, I was told the hydraulic calipers were bad and that the brake pads and rotors were rubbing against each other. I was also told it’s just an "unfortunate coincidence. " however, since I had no brake issues before the recall work, I’m very concerned that something may have gone wrong during the service.

2 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2023

Car unable to pass smog check engine issues. Wheels no good.

3 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2022

I noticed a loud ticking noise from my engine 6 months ago and took it to my mechanic assuming it needed an oil change sooner. However the noise became much worse the past month and a half and again took it to my mechanic which found it is an issue inside the motor itself and they could not figure it out except many 2013 Hyundai Elantra's have in fact had engine failure and recommended I take it to a dealer. I instead took it today to ntb assuming it was another issue with tires and unable to accelerate which almost caused me an accident on the interstate. Ntb found that this is a serious issue with the engine and confirmed Hyundai is aware of the issue but will not issue any recalls due to this. My car is only 9 years old and when I bought it brand new there were already many recalls that was repaired. When I called the Hyundai dealership near me I was told no recalls were issued but they are aware of the problem and just for me to bring it in it will be extremely costly just to look at it including around $5,000/$7,000 to replace the engine if this is the issue which was confirmed by 2 auto shops. I have found many reports and documentation of engine failure with not being able to accelerate and my car has done this 3xs on an extremely busy interstate in which I was almost rear ended and would have been killed. I will once again contact the Hyundai dealership near me with hopes of receiving a free inspection of the engine. I will also be sending information to our west virginia attorney general and close friend patrick morrisey along with documentation of recent and previous repairs of brakes and countless purchasing of tires as well as having to replace tie rods numerous times. This also includes my cruise control will accelerate which I have received a ticket even when I told the officer my cruise control was stuck and no matter what I tried it would not shut off including when I stopped and put my car in park. My ultimate concern is the engine.

4 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2022

Sometime around last November or December, I took my vehicle for oil change and other services performed at pep boys, I was notified that all four tires are almost worn out and needs to be replaced. All four tires were replace sometime in December 2021 and they also did the wheel balance and wheel alignment. Around January 2022, while driving, I could feel the tightness on the steering wheel and also my car pulling left and at times crossing into the adjacent lane and was tough on the steering wheel to bring it back to the previous lane. I informed pep boys and they carried out some tests and also did a wheel alignment at no cost. The problem hasn't been fixed, there's a knocking noise in the steering wheel and the car is still pulling right, there's also the sensor light flashing in the dashboard, which the mechanic at pep boys is unable to fix even after carrying out diagnostic tests. The vehicle is available for inspection, it has been inspected by pep boys, the warning lamp for the wheels is continuously flashing and pep boys has been unable to determine the course.

5 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

The airbag light turned on about a month ago, and it stays on for a while then goes off then goes back on and so on. It is very disturbing that this could be a life threatening issue. My tire pressure sensor light is always on. I check the pressure at least once a week to make sure it’s okay, but the light is always on.

6 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra equipped with hankook tires, size: 205/55/r16. The contact stated that there was an air pressure leak in the tires. The vehicle was taken to dick hannah Volkswagen of portland (12345 e burnside st, portland, or 97233) where all the tires were checked, but no leaks were found although wires were seen protruding from the rear driver's side tire. The contact decided to have an independent mechanic replace all four tires. They mechanic also noticed an alignment failure that would cause the tires to wear again with a possible blowout if left unchecked. The contact left a message with the manufacturer to call him back. The contact will give them a return call after speaking with NHTSA. The vehicle failure mileage was 35,511. The tire failure mileage, dot number, and tire line were unknown.

7 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

Brake lights keep intermittent working and burning out. Steering wheel makes clicking noise. Keep having to replace tires in front. Even after alignment, car still pulls.

8 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

I purchased this vehicle back in January of 2019 & when I purchased it the steering wheel made a clicking sound. I mentioned it to the car dealer & was assured it was nothing. After having my oil changed I was told my steering column needed to be replaced. This is quite disheartening as I have had the car for just one year & a half at this point. I was told to research for recalls in relation to this particular issues as it has been reported for other vehicles of the same make, model & year. I am afraid my car steering will go out while driving.

9 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2018

Since buying this car my traction control light has been coming on. It is happening more and more frequent. It is causing my car to slow down without me using the brakes by as much as 10-15 miles per hour. At this time I'm not sure if my break lights are staying on.

10 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

2013 Hyundai Elantra. Consumer writes in regards to spontaneous wheel fracture.

11 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2018

I bought my 2013 Hyundai Elantra used with over $60,000 miles already driven. I received a recall letter for my car and took it to the Hyundai dealer who was supposed to fix a safety issue with the brake system. When I got my car back after the free repair I noticed a clicking sound coming from the left wheel or passenger side wheel. I told the dealer who said I don't have extended maintenance coverage on it unless I purchase one which I was quoted another $300 plus a month on to cover repairs. I am paying $238. 22 a month on time since June 2017 and insurance. Do I have to spend more than my budget for a car sold to me with the promise it had no problems? I don't think it's right that I have taken over someone's used car that obviously I am expected to pay for double because of the issues the car had and was not disclosed to me when I bought it. The clicking sound on the wheel is loud when I am driving slowly.

12 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2017

I had a rear tire blowout causing the car to stop rapidly causing me to hit my face on the steering wheel so hard I got knocked out . My foot pressed on the gas and I hit a parked car. And my airbags never deployed. Insurance didn't pay my claim because it wasy falt I hit a parked car. Because I was knocked out. I don't remember anything about 30 seconds before the accident. Had my airbags worked maybe I could have remembered what really happened. When the collusion center inspected my car they said a defect in the car was the cause of my accident. But the insurance already denied the claim. The yellow tab was the airbag sensor.

13 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

On Friday, may 26 2017, at 7am while driving on curve, the driver side front rim broke apart and the tire flew completely off. The car crashed to the pavement where the wheel had been. The road had recently been resurfaced so there were no pot holes or hazards. Hyundai was notified and they said to bring it in admitting this was a defective rim. After having the vehicle towed to sacramento Hyundai, we were told, it's an insurance issue. The insurance said, it's a manufacturer issue. Then we contacted safe-guard regarding the platinum protection program purchased with the vehicle, and were told that it's not covered because it's a defect and they don't cover defects.

14 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2017

Driving on a residential road at less than 30 mph heard a loud bang and wheel flew off car. Upon inspection, the wheel snapped in half leaving part still attached to the car and the other half attached to the tire which was no longer on the car.

15 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

Rear tires go bald prematurely and front tires wear on the inboard side prematurely and the front tire are real prone to side wall bulging. I bought the car with 37,417 miles and it now has 66,388 miles and I've been made to purchase three sets of tires something needs to be done us consumers should not have to be forced into paying for defects like this.

16 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

The esc indicator/traction control activated while I was driving 50 mph. I lost complete control of the vehicle, the car headed straight for a cement guardrail on a bridge. The car decelerated, I was unable to steer and the tires screeched on the ground. I was able to push the esc off button and recover control of the car, avoiding the crash. I knew about the off button only because we have had this problem since June and Hyundai was unable to fix it because it did not duplicate for them. Previously we were driving at a very slow rate of speed, this time it almost killed my daughter and me! my car has been with Hyundai auto-nation, columbus, GA since August 24, 2016 I called on August 25 but the car VIN # was not asked of me, the complaint ticket number is 1010763 the first time the esc activated my husband was driving. The esc turned on, while he was accelerating onto an on-ramp back in June 2016. We turned the car off, researched it on the side of the road, found the "off" button and brought to Hyundai the next day and they were unable to fix the problem! a week later the esc turned on in a parking lot while I was driving, hit the esc off button and the car behaved until Aug 24th. I called Hyundai to report, but since it didn't occur again, they said do not bring it in. On August 24th, the esc came on while I was in a school zone, I hit the off button, I took the off button off, to see if it would activate again so I could bring it into Hyundai (they said it had to be malfunctioning at the time of visit to be fixed) it malfunctioned! almost killing my myself and my daughter! if I hadn't known about the esc off button, I would definitely have crashed!.

17 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

My son 2013 Hyundai Elantra would not stop correctly while he was driving it causing it to turn in a semi circle and ultimately crashing into a shoulder on a freeway to stop. After which the wheels broke off on the right side of it.

18 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Owned car since new. Had to replace all 4 tires four times. Each time with a different brand. Each time with only 5000 to 15000 miles the tires will get sidewall bubbles.

19 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2016

Subject: 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS trouble with tpms sensors comments: I understand you wanted these in all new cars. While that is great it's costing some consumer's way to much money and headaches including myself. They aren't regulate to fine spec's of manufacturing them aftermarket or oem. Along with tires included. I can buy aftermarket cheaper or tires cheaper online and should have that choice. I bought new sensors from mr. Tire formally kost tire my bill is about $386. 00 and they don't work been there 4-5 times trying to reset and to no avail. Told me to take to a dealer but that's another cost to me too. I'm not alone in this problem. I suggest get rid of them or get on the ball and figure it out. Costing me a low income person money and still costing. Do not make them part of an inspection till all bugs are out. Thank-you.

20 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

Same issue as many others. The car rides very rough on normal road conditions. I have had one instance where the front left tire bulged and eventually went flat on christmas night. Turned out the rim was also dented. The second occasion was when my daughter ran over a pothole and the front right tire went flat and the rim bent. I filed a case with Hyundai and have an appointment with te dealer to see what can be done to resolve the issue. The car is for my new driver daughter but I feel it is very unsafe for her to use. Aside from the fact that there is no spare and jack. Just an inflator kit which didn't help in either of these situations. Would love to see if anyone has a solution for this issue.

21 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2016

I am the original owner of a 2013 Elantra gt. Around February 4, 2016 I hit a pothole, on maryland route 175, due to road work combined with inclement weather. A disturbing sound on the right side of the vehicle occurred after contact with the pothole. Upon inspection of the tires and rims all seemed well. On February 24, 2016 (after being stationary since the incident), a large golf ball size bulge appeared on the right front tire and a smaller one on the rear right tire. The tires have only 7,815 miles on them. Due to the bulges in both right tires I fear a blowout could occur in one or both tires, losing control of the car, before safely being driving the 15 miles in city traffic to the dealership.

22 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

The front passenger side tire has blown out twice in the past year. The car was parked, and when I started the car and started driving the low tire light came on. After stopping to get air I discovered the tire was completely flat, and I had been driving on a flat tire. Both times the rim was also bent and had to be sent to a shop to repair it (more money and more time away from my car and paying for a rental car). It was the same exact situation both times. I didn't hit anything or run over anything. In total, this is the fourth or fifth time I have had to replace this tire during the duration of the car's life, and it has never been due to hitting anything or running over anything. It just mysteriously happens. I purchased the car new in oct 2012 and there are currently about 57000 miles on the car. This is a major inconvenience in terms of cost and time, but even more importantly, I constantly fear and dreadfully anticipate the next time I will have a flat and never feel completely safe when driving. I have read online that the use of 17" wheels on this car is not appropriate, and I would like for this to be looked into, as no one with this problem has been able to get any help from Hyundai. Thank you.

23 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

I have 2013 Hyundai Elantra equipped with hankook optimo h426 tires, size: p205/55r16. I discovered bubbles on the sidewalls of the driver side tire. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The tire was the original equipment. The approximate failure mileage of the vehicle and tire was 20,000.

24 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2015

The dealership has consistently over-torqued the wheel lug nut/bolts and it seems that the situation is getting worse. The specification for the lug nuts is up tp 79 ft-lbs. . The last service by the dealership tighten them to 200-300 ft-lbs, or more. The manager at the dealership defended their work and didn't understand what a ft-lb was, not alone the elastic limit of the bolts, nuts and alloy wheels. They seem to think that the car is save to drive, but can't say why their over-torquing might even be considered a hazard . I pose that there is an systemic over-reliance on "torque sticks" on impact wrenches for tightening bolts. They do not use torque wrenches. You should watch for lug bolt failures because I believe that this is a systematic issue. Regards, george boskosh bsee. Msmine.

25 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

Noticed the sidewall of the driver side front tire has a golf ball size bulge on it, did not hit any potholes or anything. Have been reading many are having the same issues with the 17" tires on this Hyundai elentra gt touring car. Need to open an investigation or start inquiry with car or tire manufacturing company before it becomes Ford mid SUV issue few years back and finger pointing starts. . . . . . . .

26 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2015

No spare tire , no jack or tire iron.

27 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Tires are damage and manufacturer nor Hyundai wants to replace them even though is a safety issue.

28 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra gt with the stock (upgraded as part of Hyundai's 'style' package) 17-inch rims and stock "nexen" brand 215/45-17 tires on March 2nd, 2015. Only an hour later, the front driver's side tire had a bubble on it from hitting a very small and shallow pothole at a low rate of speed. The following morning, at the same rate of speed the front passenger side tire had a blowout, also after hitting a small, very shallow pothole. The rear tires have no damage as of yet. In only 2 days I will have to have replaced 2 tires. I looked this up online and found that it is a very common occurrence, reported by dozens of people, especially with these size rims (although others have reported it happening with the stock 16-inch rims and stock "hankook" brand tires. Hyundai denies any fault on their part and will not cover wheels/tires without an optional protection plan. I have had to order brand-new 16-inch rims and 16-inch tires of a better brand/quality at my own expense out of fear for my safety while driving this vehicle. The fact that Hyundai provides these wheels/tires when buying a car is beyond me, as they must have had complaints of this nature before and it is hard to believe that they are not aware of these safety issues. I have heard it may have to do with the weight of the vehicle (as well as the heavy weight distributed to the front wheels), the extremely stiff and rigid suspension, rims that are too big for this vehicle, and low-quality stock tires. Please look into this complaint before someone gets hurt or killed due to this glaring defect. Better to stop it now before injuries, deaths, and a class-action lawsuit occur. Thank you for investigating this complaint. If you are looking to buy a Hyundai, be aware of this issue and please consider the safety of you and your family first before buying.

29 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

While driving on the highway or any roadway for that matter, if I hit any metal pieces that have been installed on the roadway, or if I go over any bumps on the road, my car seems to almost fishtail. You can briefly feel the back of it get thrown from side to side. This has made me extremely nervous, especially since we have such harsh winters. Can anything be done by Hyundai to correct this problem before someone gets hurt? I've read multiple complaints online for the same problem so I know it's not just my car!.

30 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

I purchased this car in July 2014. A. 2013 hyundia Elantra and after 3 weeks the front passenger tire went out after barely hitting curb around by September 2014, the drivers tire was deflating replaced. On 2/10/2015 the tire in rear went out while driving on highway, the dealership says it could because a nail got into the tire and caused the problem. It just seems a bit unusal for 3 tires in less than a year of owning this vehicle, which was new purchased July 2014. 2013 hyundia Elantra.

31 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2015

I have bought this car brand new and have had to put it in the shop over three times this time I heard a thumping sound the sound started to get loud and when I geared to the right it would be even worse I called the dealership and they refused to check this issues saying that don't accept walk in when I asked to speak to management than they told me to bring it in I was not contacted until 1/20 saying it was my wheel barring's on my car with no other information I have taken my car in within the first 3 months for jerking and they also would not explain the reason the car was doing this.

32 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2014

I have a 2013 Elantra gt and have had numerous issues with wheels and tires. In the winter of 2013-14, I had this car for only 4 month and started having issues with bubbles in sidewalls of the tires. The original tires were kumho 245/45r17 tires and bubbled or went flat after normal driving or upon encountering a bump or pothold. The tires were replaced with falken 245/45r17 tires in February of 2014. In November of 2014, another bubble appeared and a second on December 4, 2014. It is a concerning condition of unsafety and unreliability when a vehicles tires are so prone to damage. I was able to purchase the road hazard warranty with the replacement tires, but have learned that this will no longer be available and the 17" tires will be considered 'low profile' going forward and replacements will not be covered and will need to be paid out of pocket. Not only is this a scary situation, it is expensive and time consuming. Please look into this complaint and the many others that have been submitted for the same issue.

33 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

My daughter has a Hyundai Elantra 2013 with 6700 miles, she was driving at 60mph on a freeway and her passenger front tire blew out. She lost control and ran into the concrete barrier on the freeway. She has frame and body damage to her front end. Thank god she is ok except for her collar bone area being bruised from her seat belt. She did not hit anything before the blow out. She could have been seriously hurt. No tire with only 6700miles should have a blow out like this one did. The car has nexen cp671 tires. I am waiting on nexen tire company to call me back. Hyundai really has not offered any help.

34 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

Second side wall tire blow out on Hyundai Elantra was driving on a pretty typical road (bumps etc) but no huge chuck holes and tire sidewall gave out.

35 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

Tires that came factory on the vehicle did not last as long as the tire was rated from the manufactures website. They are nearly bald, due to highway driving, and the manufacture and car company will not honor the tread life warranty. They said that there is not an owner warranty because I did not purchase the tires. This is confusing to me, only because I bought a $24,000 car! continental was contacted by me to discuss this, and I've taken my vehicle to the dealer. Neither is willing to accept the fact that the tires did not last like they had advertised. Next vehicle I purchase I plan on removing anything with the name continental on it.
