I have 2014 Hyundai Elantra it unsafe to drive put in drive it wouldn’t go forward . It jerky hard to go. Failure of light. Transmission. Steer clutch shaft.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2020

I own a 2014 Hyundai Elantra limited. It handles normally when in town driving but while driving highway speeds, the vehicle veers slightly from left to right and you cannot keep the vehicle straight in center. It is hard to maneuver as the steering appears to stick in either position as you fight to keep it in the center of the road. It sticks more to the left than to the right. I am amazed that there has not been a recall on these cars because there are so many Hyundai's having the same issue. I cannot put a specific date on the incident because the vehicle does this all the time when on the highway so I just picked the date that I bought the car from a dealer.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2020

The car was in motion on a street. It kept jumping and would not accelerate, the steering wheel got really hard to move. It makes a clicking noise when I try to turn it on, when I turn on the car white smoke that smells really strong starts coming out of the exhaust and the car won't drive, if I put it on drive it jumps a lot and turns off by itself. I have read an article in which many users of the Hyundai Elantra from the years 2011 to 2015 have this same motor issues. Something is not right with the engine. Even before this happened, the steering wheel feels really rough, its not smooth its not easy to move the steering wheel especially when making a u- turn or turning on a street, I have to pull really hard to make turns, I don't think this is safe.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2020

When driving at speeds over 45 mph the steering feels as if it "locks" in the center position driving straight. Not that it is stiffer to to turn but "locks' in the center position. You must use more force to get past this "lock" or null position. This is not speed sensitive steering! this seems only to happen when driving straight and trying to make small input steering corrections. When using more force to get past the lock position you can tend to over steer, which can be dangerous.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

Vehicle air bags systems just went out. Also my electronic power steering system isn't working either.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

When we drive the car the steering wheel will stick or seem to catch on something which makes it very hard to drive straight and not all over the rd like were drunk. It doesn't do it if you are turning. Only when you drive straight. It has definitely almost caused some accidents, and also tickets too! I would think that the steering would be considered a safety issue and I most definitely think Hyundai would want to make their care owners their priority since we are driving their name and reputation. I most definitely want to believe that my life and safety of myself but also my kids and husband as well! thank you for taking the time to read this.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

The steering wheel sticks while driving down the road. When you try to turn into a curve you have to be very forceful with turning the steering wheel which leads to either ending up in the other lane or in the ditch. This is a safety risk and needs to be fixed. This is not just happening with my car, its happening with several. Please investigate the problem further before someone is seriously injured.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai elentra. While driving 55 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel continuously went in a circle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to lakeland Hyundai (1500 w memorial blvd, lakeland, FL 33815 (863) 682-1100) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinon and clockspring malfunctioned and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that only one part, a rubber seal, would be covered under warranty. No further assistance was offered. After speaking with the manufacturer, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 67,300.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle veered from left to right. In addition, the contact also stated that the steering wheel became hard to maneuver when driving straight. The contact had to turn the steering wheel left to right to unlock the steering. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where an alignment was performed; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,588.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2017

My 2014 Hyundai Elantra has numerous issues. The car feels unsafe when driving down interstate when a very small flaw makes it seem you are losing control of the vehicle. It feels as if the back end is coming around as if it is going to do a 360 in the road. It also has a feeling in the steering wheel that it wants to lock up and have to apply more pressure to wheel and it finally breaks loose but feels uncomfortable as if you are going into other lanes. It does this in either direction. Sometimes I feel the steering is locking up and could cause a major accident. There have been many different reports of these same issues and apparently Hyundai charges outrageous prices just to tell you nothing is wrong. There is something wrong with these cars and really needs attention before someone is killed.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2017

At highway speeds steering sticks at center and it hard to unstick. Once you pull hard enough to get past the sticking it turns extremely easy making me wander all over the road.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

The steering sticks in the center position. Extra effort is required to move the steering wheel left or right from the center position when driving. Condition developed at 12,000 miles.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2016

After less than 2 years, the car battery dies and disables the control of this particular car and year. Many customers, according to reviews, seem to have the same problem. Should the battery falter when driving on a highway, serious accidents could result. My vehicle was moving at a slow pace in the parking lot when the battery died. I lost control of the car. I was not expecting the battery to die as it is only about 18 months old. I do not have a picture. The car is at the dealership.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

2014 Elantra with approximately 13,000 miles. At highway speeds 50-70mph, the steering wheel sticks at the center position. Slight pressure normally required to change lanes does not effectively turn the steering wheel enough to correct steering in order to remain in a straight line. When enough pressure is applied to correct steering, a slight pop is felt in the steering wheel. . Read more...

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

Suspension consistently bounces over bumps on the freeway, sometimes so severe the car feels as if it will lose control and end up in another lane. Dealer replaced both rear shocks, which provided little improvement, as the front of the car still seems to bounce/hop over bumps at most speeds over 15mph. Vehicle still feels unstable, unsafe to drive. All dealers seem to deny there is an issue with seemingly little diagnostic work done. After checking Hyundai-forums. Com, found I'm not the only one to experience this unpleasant nature of the suspension after a few thousand miles. Note: car did not handle this terribly when new.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

On the Elantra gt, there is notable problem with the rear suspension system. When holding the vehicle in a turn to go around a curve, such as a highway ramp, the vehicle's rear end will hop if it hits a bump in the road. I imagine this happens when going straight as well, but is not as noticeable. When going around a curve, the back and will fishtail slightly causing the vehicle to become unstable in its path. On dry road, this doesn't usually present a problem as traction is restored quickly. However, on a wet or slick road the situation could prove to be more dangerous. Luckily, that scenario has not happened to me. Yet. There are various complaints about this issue across the internet for all models of the current generation Elantra (coupe, sedan and hatchback). Some people report that changing the rear shocks with better aftermarket ones seems to solve the problem. This needs to be addressed by Hyundai.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

The steering locks in the center as if there is a catch or something, what happens is, while driving your trying to keep center in your lane, as the car will either drift to the left or right, it will never stay centered, ok so while doing so, once you try to correct to center the car, the steering wheel seems to lock or catches, so as, when your trying to correct it, it takes a lot of force to over come this locking or catching in the steering wheel, so much as to, once your able to over come the locking/catching it then over corrects and causes the car to dart the opposite direction. It has caused me numerous times to go into on coming traffic or onto the shoulder, this is very dangerous, as I race dirt track, I know how to handle a car and I can say with a 100% firm conviction, that this is absolutely unsafe and a huge hazard to human life. . And this happens every time you drive it and at all speeds, though becomes increasingly dangerous as speeds increase, now also ill be making a youtube video of it soon. . 2014 Hyundai Elantra electronic steering dangers or something of the like. . I really hope this is resolved ASAP. . Peace and thanks for this forum.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

When driving at highway speeds in a straight line the steering sticks. As the car drifts in the lane it takes an extreme amount of pressure to move the steering wheel and then it over corrects. I have two Elantras and they both have the same problem. I have been researching and see people have had this complaint since 2011.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2014

I got this as a rental car and am afraid to drive it. Every time I go over a pothole, I feel like I lose control of the car. I've never had a car feel like this and it just feels dangerous.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

On 5/30/14 I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra close out with 54 miles on it. At 4300 miles I lost all control of the steering and the car went across 3 lanes of interstate 3 times before I regained control of the car. I returned the car to the dealer and had to "trade it in" to get a different car. I left the dealer with a 2014 Elantra limited on 7/21/14 having to pay them an $4500 extra. The 2014 felt better on the road now at 1300 miles I start felling the same fish tailing feel when the car is going interstate speed 70mph. As I write this the car now has 1944 miles and the condition is getting worse. I drive the same interstate everyday and the road conditions have not changed. I no longer can drive this car interstate speed, I now have to drive it at no more than 55mph. The 2013 did this fish tail or wander also, and just before it went out of control it did it sharply for no reason. Now I have concern this will happen with this car also as the symptoms that are starting are the same. I called Hyundai customer care and filed a complaint, they said they would do what needed to be done to fix this issue. The wobble and unstable feel driving this car, is a very on edge unpleasant ride as one does not know if it will lose control. I do not know if it is the steering or the stability control or even the suspension that is the issue. You can't feel the wobble in the steering wheel, you feel it though out the car. I have now had two Elantra's driven them a combined mileage of 7000 miles in 8 weeks and both have the same issue. Something is very wrong with the control of these cars and there needs to be a recall, I can't be that unlucky to get the only two cars out there with the same issue.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

While driving at highway speeds, the rear of the 2014 Elantra consistently sways and at times causes vehicle to actually drift into other lanes which is a huge safety issue to me and my family, my fiancee is actually fearful of driving this car as I am. We have had the car back at dealer and have been told it's the way the car is made. I actually spoke on phone with Hyundai motors eastern seaboard district manager brian norman ( his phone number is 609-395-7342 )and claims he has never heard of the swaying issue. I feel I am loosing control of car and possibly going to have accident, seems like manufacturer won't do anything until someone is killed because they refuse to accept responsibility and issue a recall. For the money I paid for this car I feel I got ripped off. Hyundai needs to be sued in court. If anyone is interested in getting a class action lawsuit going please contact me, my email is edward. Farris@aol. Com. We have rights, let's band together and force Hyundai to fix problem before someone we love gets killed by Hyundai's refusal to fix this extreme safety issue. If enough of us stand together we can win, Hyundai doesn't care about our safety or the safety of our loved ones riding in these cars. So email me and let's get this lawsuit started before someone gets hurt or killed, thank you ed farris.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

I have a 2014 Hyundai Elantra which for some reason when going into a turn on a road or street that has some bumps on it the car when hitting the bumps chatters sideways. I had filed a complaint once before on the same problem now to add to the problem is the fact that just yesterday on 25 April while driving on a 2 lane road doing about 50 mph there were bumps in the road and I as I navigated the turn my car slid sideways approximately 2 feet and hit the shoulder which blew my rear tire. I just called the service station and it will be approximately $161 to replace the tire. The situation is very dangerous. I could have been hurt seriously or killed, the call was very hard to control after hitting the shoulder and blew out the tire.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

Purchased vehicle may 2013. Noticed it pulled to the right severely. Dealership could not duplicate. Took shop foreman for a ride on 3 lane 65 mph highway. Taking a left curve I let go of the steering wheel. Car pulled to right and crossed two lanes. They decided to attempt to repair. All I remember is rotation of tires and I was told they could never be rotated again. Car is easier to drive but not completely repaired. Tired of messing with it. I hate this car and do not like driving it. There is a steering and suspension problem. I also have excessive wear on my tires, they have 18,000 miles on them and will need to be replaced soon.
