My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete brake assist failure, including the emergency brake. I was unable to stop the vehicle, which directly resulted in a collision. Prior to the crash, the car showed no warning lights. After the accident, I had the vehicle inspected at the Hyundai dealership. The dealership stated they could not reproduce the failure and “found no issues,” which contradicts the symptoms. Since the crash, I discovered two Hyundai technical service bulletins that directly match the failure I experienced: TSB 23-01-036h-1 (relates to hecu/electronic parking brake failure) TSB addressing dtc c1620 (relates to fca sensor/automatic braking malfunction) these tsbs relate to brake assist malfunction, emergency brake concerns, and similar stopping failures. The dealership did not disclose these tsbs, did not apply the corrective procedures, and cleared the car as having “no defects. ” the dealership wrote “could not reproduce concern” and “no problems found,” despite the vehicle having just been in a brake-failure crash. This brake failure created a major safety risk with potential for severe injury or fatality. I am reporting this because the defect appears unresolved, the dealership denied it, and the tsbs show Hyundai is aware of brake-related issues. I request that NHTSA investigate this brake-system failure as part of a potential manufacturer safety defect. The vehicle is currently secured at the dealership (lithia Hyundai, las vegas) and is available for inspection upon request by NHTSA investigators.
I was slowly pulling into a parking spot in a lot. As I approached the curb, I gently pressed the brake to come to a complete stop. However, instead of stopping, the vehicle suddenly and forcefully accelerated forward very fast without warning, resulting in a crash.
Intermittently while driving the vehicle will suddenly engage the traction control (tc)/electronic stability control (esc). The light flashes for a short period (probably no more than a couple of seconds) and the car slightly jerks to the right. A loud noise is heard when this happens and the brake pedal shakes. Then the light will stop flashing and the car will begin operating normally again. Typically, the problem will reoccur shortly after it happens. I took the car to a dealer, and the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. The service manager stated that there were no codes and no history, and without a code the problem could not be diagnosed. This problem occurred multiple times over the last few months.
While driving highway speeds (65mph-75mph) the emergency braking system randomly activated causing my car to slow to almost a halt and swerve itself in the middle of the highway almost causing multiple accidents. It has happened 2-3 times over the past 2-3 months. Brought to a dealer and it could not be "duplicated" so I was sent on my way worried about this car.
My daughter was driving the car to work. The car accelerated even thou her foot was lightly placed on the gas pedal, it was like pressing the gas pedal to race the car. This happened 4 times on her 4. 5 mile drive to work. When she was turning into the parking lot, she had her foot on the brake and the car accelerated again which scared her as she didnt want to crash into the cars in front. I read a lot of such complaints on the Hyundai forum. I talked to the dealership service mechanics and they say that they will have to replicate it. This is the first time this has happened in the last 2 years.
When I come to a stop the nose doesn't nose drop. Took them a while at the shop to agree something was wrong, they had to vehicle for 2 months cut the rotors, a week later it's doing the same thing. So now it's easier to calipers hanging up heating up the rotors but they say I'm running out of warranty on it when it started I noticed it 2,000 miles and I'm reaching 10,000 now and they say the brakes run out at 12,000 even though they had my vehicle for 2 months just to cut the rotors.
I was traveling on a road headed to east bound 1-80 when my aeb engaged and it caused me to swerve to the left and the aeb slammed into the braking system. It lasted about 30 seconds and then clicked off and did not do it again until a few days later when traveling on the same road the aeb engaged again at the same spot causing my vehicle to swerve to the left. It then did it a third time while traveling in town at 45 mph the aeb slammed into the braking system for about 20 seconds and then released. It was very scary and not provoked as this could cause a very severe accident if not fixed.
I was driving down a highway at around 60 mph with no one around me. As a car started to pass me on the left, my Elantra started sharply turning to the left and stopping. The dash started beeping with emergency braking lit up. The system activated on its own for no reason.
I drove my vehicle to the store, parked and went in to the store to get some things. When I came out and started the car several things were wrong with the car. The power steering was not working, the rpm gauge didn't work at all, the back up camera also was not operational. The check engine light was on, the forward collision light was illuminated. I was able to drive it home but that was a sketchy drive home. The next morning I got in the car and started it up no problem, none of the issues from the previous day were there, the power steering worked perfectly and everything was fine. I still drove it to autozone to get it check with a scan tool, and when I did the scan tool didn't come up with any faults. This all happened about two weeks ago. Hopefully the problems don't come back. Vehicle mileage is 15,000 and I've had the car for almost a year so whatever it is better be covered under warranty. I also have been having a kind of wailing sound from my brakes when I slowly reverse, it's a high pitched squeal that is usually heard when the brake pads are worn. It sounds like a deeper kind of wailing sound. It actually comes and goes and never does it in normal drive only in reverse, if anyone else has experienced this please let me know.
I attempted to make a complete stop at a stop sign. The brakes wouldn't stop the car. The car kept driving, had to swerve several times. I attempted to put the car in neutral didn't work, tried to put it in park didn't work. It abruptly stopped in the middle of the road eventually. Several lights displayed on the dashboard. Scariest moment of my life! Hyundai needs to fix this problem! I called the dealership to speak with the service manger art at world Hyundai in matteson, IL, left several messages no call back! final call, I was told that art couldn't come to the phone, I could drop off the car, but they have no loaner to give me in the meantime.
I bought my brand new 2022 Elantra in July of 2021, the only problem I have experienced is the brakes make a sort of wailing noise. It's not a screeching noise as if the brakes need to be changed or that the rotors are worn or brake pads are low. It is not a sound I've heard brake make before and it typically makes the sound when in reverse and slow speeds. I was a mechanic in the united states air force for 16 year so I know a lot about mechanical issues so a year old car certainly shouldn't be making these kinds of sounds.
