1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/29/2020

When pumping gas I can only pump about $1. 50 worth of gas at a time before it starts coming back out and spilling everywhere. I have tried pumping gas with the car on, not safe I know, and it still only takes about $1. 50 before it comes back out. I have spoken to multiple Elantra owners and they all have the same issue. It takes about 20 minutes to fill up. The more gas you get in your tank, the less you can pump. From the research I have done online it's that the evap canistor has failed and it's pushing charcoal thru the fuel lines. What if that gets into the fuel tank and the pump sucks it up? don't think that would be a good thing. But the gas that comes out is starting to eat away the paint because it does it multiple times each time I'm refueling. My vehicle has high miles but alot of people that have this issue say they have below 100k miles.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/11/2018

My vehicle smells like gas inside the cabin and I can also see the gas fumes coming out of the gas tank once it hits 100 degrees. It is worse when stopped and stop and go traffic due to the air not blowing it away like it does when you keep driving. . How is this safe?what if someone smokes? or a spark hits the gas tank. Please check this out so I know my family and I are safe driving this vehicle in the heat. . I had the car checked for leaks and no gas leaks. Hyundai gave me a generic paper about it saying thats what it is suppost to do. I just want to know how safe is this vehicle?.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

After refueling, the car has difficulty starting. The car stall like it has flooded. After numerous attempts trying to start the car (the car sputters), it finally starts. There atre several other hyudai Elantra owners in this area have the same problem. The car initial started with difficulty refueling. After putting in 0. 25 - $1. 00 worth of gasoline, the pump would click off. Refueling could take up to 5-10 minutes to fill the tank. I have spent over $500. 00 dollars trying to fix the problem. I have called Hyundai of America and received little to no assistance.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

We bought our 2003 Hyundai Elantra used but in very good condition. Now after about a year when we try to fill the gas tank the pump shuts off repeatedly. Is there any recall covering this?.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

I purchased this vehicle based on the gas mileage rating and the 5 star safety rating. I traded a 2012 vw passat se for the Elantra gt. The Elantra cost $5,000 less, but the insurance is $600 more annually. The vw was rated 31 mpg highway, but averaged 33+ mpg highway: the Elantra was rated at 37 mpg highway, but at 4 different speeds (resetting the indicator between speeds), the best mileage is 32 mpg. To make matters worse, the car had to be refueled at 400 miles because of the small gas tank. Not touting the vw, but I drove 540 between fillups. I am seeing a lot of Hyundai's on the road, but this car is a big disappointment. The NHTSA has a 5 star safety rating, so why does my insurance cost more? how can the government allow a 37 mpg rating on a car that gets at best 32 mpg on the highway?.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Unable to fill gas tank because the gas pump would click off just after pumping a few dollars of gas into car although the gauge indicated the vehicle was near empty. This continues to be a problem over and over again and just started out of the blue. One day it was working fine, then, approx 1 month after I had the car, I noticed I was having problems with gas pump clicking off.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

A few months back I began noticing that my check engine light came on. Would take 10- 15 mins to fill up gas tank. Sensor was triggered every few seconds, suggesting gas tank was full, but it was not. Took it to the dealer and was told there was nothing wrong with the car. With in the last month I have been noticing that rear automatic locking seat belt is not staying locked. Child car seats do not stay secured. Car occasionally stalls when started, and air bag light does not illuminate to determine if air bag will deploy or not.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Unable to fill gas tank because the gas pump would click off just after pumping a few dollars of gas into car although the guage indicated the vehicle was near empty. This continued to be a problem over and over again and just started out of the blue. One day it was working fine, then I noticed I was having problems with gas pump clicking off. Took vehicle to mechanic and described the problem, they pulled up the recall notice. Contacted Hyundai and was told that my car "just missed" the recall. Recall effected through November 9, 2003 and my car was made December 17, 2003. Therefore I would not qualify for the fuel tank assembly valve recall id # 04v369000 - fuel system, gasoline:storage a valve on the fuel tank assembly may not close properly. If a vehicle rolls over and the fuel tank assembly valve is not properly closed, fuel spillage may occur. After being told I did not qualify for the recall I take my car to the dealership that states, found canister assembly come apart internally restricting valve. The cost was going to be $450. 00 plus tax and labor. Tried to find a better deal and all mechanics are telling me Hyundai is refusing to fix the fuel tanks on some cars, but all the mechanics are doing is replacing the fuel tank assembly valve and vehicles are running fine with no further complaints. Hyundai is ripping off customers by failing to include all cars affected by this recall. After talking to several mechanics they say is uncommong for a canister assembly to come apart (noting it could happen, but rarely). The Hyundai people are saying my car is not "sensing" when it is full. Which sounds like the exact thing the recall implies. I'm in the process of gathering the money to have this done (not at the dealership) and see if it fixes my problem as well.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

The contact owns 2002 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated whenever refueling the vehicle, the fuel would overflow and spray out of the filler neck onto the side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the failure was contributed to the fuel tank carbon canister. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 66,500.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/03/2012

My fuel tank assembly valve. It takes me a very long time to pump gas because the car shuts the pump off like my tank is already full. I even had gas spill out while I was still pumping. I started to become very concerned when I did a little research on this particular incident. What really got me concerned is when it said if this problem is not taken care of, if I were to get into an accident and my car overturned, it could potentially catch a fire! I have two children, and god forbid something like this happen when im in my car with my children.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

I purchased this my Hyundai Elantra from a used car lot. It wasn't long after I purchased it, I noticed that when I stopped to fuel up my vehicle that as I begin to pump fuel, it would click like my tank was full. Then I would start pumping it again and then it would do it again. This happens every time I go to fuel up my car. And it annoys me so much. I am disable and have lots of back problems and can't stand too long with out bad pain. It doesn't matter in the hot heat of the summer months or very cold winter days, this is rough on me, in my condition to deal with a car that I love and is the best car I ever owned even though it was used when I bought it to be stressed out every time I fuel it up. Is there a way, free of charge that you can fix my fuel tank to where it will not do this anymore. Please contact me and let me know in what steps are available in getting this fixed by the manufacturer. I think this should be a top priority.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/30/2011

When pumping gas, there seems to be a blockage of some sort. The gas pump keeps kicking off as if the tank were full. It takes a very long time to put a few gallons of gas in the tank. This happens at all service stations, every time gas is pumped.
