Trunk Lid Lock Problems of Hyundai Elantra

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. While the vehicle was parked, the trunk suddenly opened and the vehicle rolled down the driveway while the contact was inside his home. The rear passenger side wheel was stopped on a curb. The contact stated that the trunk opened unexpectedly several times prior. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failures could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 576.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. While driving 40 mph, the trunk opened without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 75,887.

Trunk lid opens by itself either when driving or while parked. Had my 2010 Elantra towed to dealer Saturday 03/05/11 after hearing a loud sound under rear of car as if something metal had broken, then it sounded like something under the rear of the car had dropped, then a loud scraping noise occurred, this happened while turning right into my paved driveway. I stopped immediately and looked under the car, there was nothing in the road or my driveway. As I pulled the car in the driveway loud rattling and scraping sounds and sounds of springs stretching and breaking were coming from the left rear wheel, I looked for anything foreign stuck in the wheels and saw nothing. The dealer said all they found was rust on the rotor. Give me a break, all rotors rust and it rained all day Sunday before they looked at the car. I had driven the car at least 45 miles that Saturday before this all occurred, there would have been no rust left on the braking surface of the rotors by then. Besides rust does not cause the sounds that I heard. Also when the car was up on the flat-bed I noticed the left rear wheel was on a slant. I will ask the dealer to fully inspect the suspension and if they can pull the rear rotors off to inspect the emergency brakes and to check out why the trunk lid opens by itself on Tuesday 03/08/11, and I will let the NHTSA know the results. For the most part I am very statified with the 2005 Hyundai Elantra, 4 door sedan. However, the locking mechanism inside the trunk lid can cause head injury. I hit my head numerous times on it, and I think the manufacturer needed to to take action redesign the inner locking mechanism so it was out of range of a person bending into the trunk and bending back out of the trunk area. I am a cauctous person, but it hurts when the lip of the inner locking mechanism of the trunk hits the head. I don't have exact dates of the particular incidents, but can generally say I have hit my head numerous times between 4/2006 to the present.

Defective steering system caused loss of steering control, resulting in an accident. Prior to the accident, steering had a vibration and tires were worn too quickly. Also had a problem with vehicle overheating intermittently. Dealer cannot determine problem.
