general problems of the 2008 Hyundai Entourage

The contact's cousin owns a 2008 Hyundai Entourage. The contact stated that while driving 60-65 mph at nighttime under snowy and icy conditions, the hood flew open and struck and shattered the windshield. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, and the hood was closed but failed to latch securely. The vehicle was driven to the residence, where the contact became aware that the hood pistons were bent, and other unknown hood assembly parts were damaged. Additionally, the owner informed the contact that prior to the failure, the hood needed to be closed with excessive force to latch securely. The vehicle was taken to safelite auto glass, where the windshield was replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v843000 (latches/locks/linkages). The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

Engine hood released from closed position and flew up at about 35-40mph. Latch and safety both failed. Notified Hyundai USA on oct 26, 2013. Resulted in significant hood damage but thankfully, the driver maintained control and no injuries.

She immediately slowed down, pulled over to the shoulder of the road and closed the door. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence without incident where it would later be towed to the dealer for further inspection. The failure and current mileages were 16,747.
