Tilt/telescopic functions just stopped working. Replaced switch, and module and still not working. Dealer now wants $10k for a new dash wiring harnesses. Found TSB for similar issue on sister vehicle (genesis). Not sure if that needs to be expanded to this vehicle.
Car is equipped with an air bag suspension system. There was a failure with the airbags around 18 months ( in 2016) of the car being put in service. I was driving on a hway at 70 mph w/grandkids in the car when the airgbags failed and the nose of the car immediately went down and the car started to veer. Luckily there was no other cars around me and I was able to slow down and pull off the hway. Coincidentally, I was just a mile from the dealership and immediately took the car to them and they gave me loaner car and took it in to repair under warranty. Approximately 18 months later, the air bags failed again and the car was just past warranty so I paid for the repair but contacted Hyundai and they reimbursed me. Hyundai told me they had problems with the design of the airbags and redesigned it which is what my car was then equipped with. The air bag system has failed twice more since then. The most recent incident caused many problems with the car. The air bag system had a leak and caused the compressor to keep filling them. I don't believe this compressor was built to be in use so much and caused my battery and alternator to fail, then the compressor itself finally failed. All this took place because of the faulty suspension air bag system. I believe Hyundai was negligent in not issuing a recall when the airbags originally failed back in 2016 as it could have led to a bad accident. I went on line and found many chat rooms with people having had the same or similar experiences to me. Hyundai is well aware of the problems with the system yet has chosen to ignore it and hope the problem goes away. Because of all the problems with this suspension, they have since done away with it and gone to a standard suspension system on all the newer cars that are similar to mine ( now genisis). They need to do something for all the older cars still on the road with this old suspension. The date listed below is for the last incident mentioned in this document.
The struts went out while I was driving. After it went out the, tires would touch the fender of the car. It damaged the passenger side and driver side of my front fender. It also rubbed the tread away from the tire due to rubbing against the fender. It was not safe to drive because it was so low to the ground that I almost tore the front fender off.
May 4th 2019 vehicle found dead and would not start. No signs of any battery issues in the past few days. The vehicle was towed directly to the service department at empire Hyundai located in fall river, MA. Vehicle confirmed by service department to turn over, however no lights or clock and no power. Then all went dead for the service department. Service manager informed that he was not able to provide the root cause for the ongoing electrical issue, and the specific cause of this incident. The solution that was provided was to install a new replacement battery. When the battery was installed, the issue seemed to go away. This is a re-occurring issue related to the electrical harness, and that it is unlikely that replacing battery is the solution to the problem. Empire's service department has documented the ongoing electrical issues as the car has been brought in numerous times usually shutting off at highway speeds with the wheels locking up. (5 times). We were told it was a ground issue and a new ground bolt was installed, however the vehicle continued to shut off at highway speeds and the vehicle is very hard to control as loss of power steering and braking occurs. When this happens and is dangerous and cause an accident with other cars or objects due to loss of control. This is clearly related to the wiring harness\ground bolt and the failure mode is similar to previous incidents when the vehicle failed during operation . Communicated we did not feel safe continuing to operate this vehicle with this issue unresolved. Case # 15744270 w/ Hyundai complaint dept. Attn: there are previous complaints in nhtsb database from other Equus users that have experienced the loss of power while vehicle is under operation. The risk with this failure mode is serious injury or death and should be assigned your highest severity risk rating.
Steering locks up while making a complete turn.
I have 2011 Hyundai equss that started having vsm issue that would keep Smart cruise from working>it was resolved to be a brake switch!>during the trips to (2) different Hyundai equss dealerships first in lexington@ glenn's Hyundai & finally after issue was not resolved friendship Hyundai, it was determined to have caster and camber issue on right front wheel>I has the friendship dealership do a (4) wheel alignment and all toe in came good and steer ahead. The remaining issue was right front still was quite a bit out in upper red on both caster and camber. I was told to take to frame shop and I did, they could find no wrong measurements and they are regional multi line car repair facility that does all major insurance company body & frame issues, the engine and both front struts were replaced during it's 100600 mile life but after contacting the Hyundai Equus customer care they referred m back to dealer and he told me help desk gives no answers???how do I resolve and why have they not made a kit like genesis to address the issue??>very disappointed and upset!.
