A little over a year ago the brakes on my 2009 Hyundai Genesis completely failed and the pedal went to the floor while attempting to exit the freeway. I was able to avoid a collision with another vehicle and got the car to a complete stop. The brake pedal eventually regained pressure and began functioning again. Over the next 5-6 months the brakes progressively got worse each time I drove the car. I was consistently having to pump the pedal and needed to keep giving myself more and more distance to stop the vehicle. Throughout this period the exterior brake lights and other sensors on the car would stop functioning entirely for periods of time. Those lights and sensors eventually quit and never turned back on. At this point vehicle brakes were getting worse and worse and it had no functioning brake lights so I took it to the dealer that I originally purchased the car from for repairs. The dealer was not associated with the manufacturer and was not able to make repairs to the car but they were able to diagnose what was going on with my vehicle. They documented and described some sort of contamination in the brake fluid that had turned it into a white gooey substance and that fluid caused significant damage and wore completely through the abs module. Coincidentally that is the exact same description that was given for the recalls in 2013 that were associated with this make and model of car (NHTSA campaign 13v489000). The previous owner did have those 2013 recall repairs made at about 60,000 miles but the same issues that caused the first recall are obviously occurring again with the car currently at about 120,000 miles. The manufacturer dealer wants $2500 to replace the abs module and to reset the computer which is over half of the blue book value. That along with the $1000 already spent to diagnose the problems, the car is now borderline totaled at this point.
My car won't stop as the brake pedal goes to the floor all the way down. The abs & esc lights come on when this happens. The brake fluid was changed in 2014 and again in 2019. A new master cylinder, front brake lines, brake light switch and diode was installed in March 2019. Took it to dealer in April 2019 and they all was ok except esc light was on. Drove it home and less then 60 miles the brakes petal again went to the floor. Taking it back to dealer in lima, OH on may 15, 2019. I put in a complaint to consumeraffairs@hmausa. Com, but the girl who returned the call, read from a script and said sorry, your car is out of warranty. Please reference your case number 15737333. This car is unfit to drive and from other postings, it will cost $2500 to repair. The cars value is between $3600/5600 dollars. This is an on going safety problem that Hyundai has put off making a proper repair, relying on time and miles to get out of a safety recall. I'm uploading photos of brake fluid taken from my car in March and April 2019.
My Hyundai dealer called me today may 15, 2019 and said that the estimate to repair my Genesis brakes would cost $2770. 00 at a minimum, maybe more if the whole system had to be replaced. In other words; (please write a blank check to us. ) this is a Hyundai problem as a manufacturer. They put dot 3 fluid in the system at birth of the car and it caused corrosion interacting with the zinc plating internally. Proper testing wasn't done prior to assembly signoff. The recall changed the fluid to dot 4 and in my case the fluid was not property drained and changed and my pictures of the fluid prove the separation and crud in the brake system. Many Genesis have had this problem and Hyundai should be forced to make this repair on the affected cars. What is a bigger safety concern then having your brakes go out when applied. My brake lights will not come on when I press the brake pedal. I have had the fuses checked and they are all working. I contacted my local Hyundai dealership after researching the recall on the brake light switch. They will not perform the recall because they said it was already done twice. But there is obviously a proble if its happening again.
Brakes lights have gone out. Hyundai is aware of the problem but I am not aware of any recall. Hyundai issued TSB 09-be-023 technical service bulletin 09-be-023, stop lamp z01 diode inspection procedure, appears to describe the location and procedure for troubleshooting of the diode but describes the issue as " . . . Vehicles may experience the stop lamps blinking on and off even when brakes are not applied. ".
Brake lights quit working entirely. There was a recall on the brake switch on this vehicle which was replaced on 12/08/13. Seven months later there is a problem with the brake lights and the service manager is telling me now it is a led diode. This diode, z01, seems to be a problem. I did not have any issues with my brake lights before the recall work was done and,I've own this car since it was new, now 7 months later I have a brake light issue. This is a serious matter and should be rectified.
I have encounter this problem multiple time with this vehicle through out my ownership. I bought the vehicle new and have encountered lost of brake lights repeatedly. I am usually informed during a scheduled maintenance that I have no brake lights. The service department replace the z01 diode, but it doesn't seem to be a permanent fix, because I've had this part replaced repeatedly due to lost of brake lights. The lost of brake lights is a very danger situation for all drivers that could result in crash, injury and fatalities. This seems to be a common issue with Hyundai Genesis vehicles per my investigation online.
The brakes light have failed more than once and now dont work at all. . . I looked deeper into the issue and it looks like a diode needs to be replaced. This needs to be a recall it is a major safety issue and has happened to numerous owners.
While driving my 2009 Hyundai Genesis I was motioned by driver behind me of no brake lights I quickly pulled over and engine running and sure enough my cousin who was with me said I had no brake lights,I the went to the nearest auto parts place turned engine off, and asked the manager what to do. His suggestion was check the fuses, which I did, they where fine. At that point I decided to drive home, car won't start won't come out of park and warned steering locked . I then called roadside assistance provided free of charge by Hyundai. The driver of the tow truck could not start the car could not turn wheel he then when under the dash broke steering lock mechanism and was able to turn the wheel, car still wont start. After all the repairs where done I was charged $1461. 01 for replacement of lock assembly ,diode, bolt safety lock, wire jumper. I feel this all thing was due to brake light failure and the rest of the damage by the tow truck driver. We are in litigation.
This is the second time brake lights failed. No indication to driver. Almost caused an accident. Same diode package replaced as the first failure reported less than a year ago and 5 k miles.
On 8/13/13 at approx 930am, traffic was approaching a traffic light when it turned yellow. Driver of vehicle infront of me suddenly stopped and as I applied the brake to stop as well, my brake pedal was depressed to the floor but had no braking power. I was not able to stop so unfortunately I struck the vehicle infront of me. All repairs were finished on 8/29/13. As I backed into my driveway I noticed that my brake lights were not working. I contacted the auto body shop and they looked at it the next day. They advised me that the brake lights were not in direct relation to their services rendered but that I should take it to a local dealership to have it checked out. They also advised me that my brake pedal seemed soft and should also be looked at. I made an appointment with the dealer and they advised me that there was a recall on the brake fluid and stop light switch. The brake lights started working again prior to my appointment so I ended up canceling it. In early Nov I noticed my brake lights again were not working. I brought the vehicle in and they fixed the brake fluid and stop light switch saying they were recalled. They also advised me that my brake pedal went to the floor and should have it looked at but would have to pay for diagnosis and/or repairs. When I got home again, I backed into the driveway and noticed my brake lights were not working even though I just left the dealership where they fixed it. Recalls are stating that the previous brake fluid may corrode the brake module reducing brake effectiveness possibly ending in a crash and that the stop lights have malfunctioned on other cars. I wanted to make you aware of my issue before I contacted Hyundai directly and possibly a lawyer. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). After receiving the repair, the brakes began to malfunction. The contact had to pump the brake pedal several times before the vehicle would come to a stop. Also, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brakes were applied. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v713000 (exterior lighting). The contact received the repair for the recall; however, the failure of the brake pedal was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case on the vehicle. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
This is the second time the brake light diode has gone out in 29000 miles. There is no warning light or indicator that the brake lights are out. Both times it was caught during an oil change.
All brake lights failed no indication to operator.
Recurrent/ongoing brakes lights failure since June 2012 (brake lamp diode blows out frequently causing brake lamps to be inoperative). Spongy brakes. Have to pump and push harder than normal on brake pedal to stop. Car serviced at tameron Hyundai dealer in b'ham, al (states esc hydraulic module internal valve malfunction, needs replacement). . . . . Updated 05/20/14.
