1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2025

Light on the dash showing "airbags" is lighting up for the first time since I've owned this vehicle. I remember there being a recall regarding a switch or something pertaining to the airbags sometime in the past, but not sure if this was the concern (airbag light on dash lighting up).

2 Equipment problem

Coolant leaking from back of the engine block on 2009 Hyundai Genesis 3. 8 sedan with 67000 miles. .

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2021

I am sending this email in regards to my dashboard cracking around the airbag. It looks like someone has taken a box cuter and sliced my dashboard. Everyday, I notice more and more cracks. Now I am at three cracks (one was small and now it has spread) I am from southern California and my car is parked outside with windows cracked half way with a window shade for my front window. I am concerned about this as I do have passengers in my car and not sure if the airbags will deploy or not. Looks like this is a problem as looking at the Hyundai dashboard, there are many concerns. Hopefully I will hear back from you soon to see what can be done about this problem. I would hate for the airbag to deploy and someone can get hurt or killed. I am providing you with photos. .

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2021

Brake unit failure. Car brake pedal became soft, needs to be pressed to the floor to get the car to stop. . . And even then it does not stop fast enough to be safe. Online research shows that this is a known issue for this model and Hyundai has been covering the cost for this as it is attributed to a part installed at the factory.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

I was driving home on the highway when suddenly I hear a loud noise like a someone shot a shotgun through my window, to then realize my whole sunroof had shattered.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

Takata recall" 4. The airbag light will not go off. Atlanta police stated I not drive the car and to report it. My family lives could be in danger. No mechanic wanted to touch it. I would very much like to this these items repaired, especially the airbag signal/light. I don't know if it will go off or not but I need this done before anything else. I will upload the picture via email. System issues. I purchased a used 2009 Genesis sedan in September of 2015. We have noticed that several unusual issues have surfaced since the purchase. I was never notified of any of the recalls or potential issues below. 1. The console for the seater heaters are melted or got overheated and is damaged. 2. When the brakes need updated they are very dry (per the repairman) recall - 114. 3. Window shield wiper seems to have a defect.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

2009 Hyundai Genesis 3. 8 4d sedan with 55000 miles. Lately, my car dash will blink "p" which is a notification for transmission is on parked even the shifter is in a different mode. This happens randomly and I am worried hope don't lockup transmission during the high speed. I have recorded a video of this scenario if asked. Btw this happens in both in motion or in stationary mode.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2017

The obdii egr monitor is extremely difficult to set under normal conditions. My battery lost charge 18 months ago and I replaced it. I passed my smog test 6 months prior to that. Now I am unable to get the egr monitor to "set". The dealer says that 3-4 people call them every week with the same problem and they currently have a car on the lot that has the same problem, preventing its sale. Two smog repair shops that I checked (including the one recommended by the dealer) will not guarantee that they can get egr to "set" even when they run the car on a dyno.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2016

Was driving car to meet my husband and when I turned the corner, he was frantically waving me to get out of the car because it was on fire, in the front under the driver's side bumper. I got out and saw flames shooting from under the bumper. With the fire department on the way, we made several attempts to put the fire out w/water to no avail. A nearby store owner came out with a fire extinguisher and was able to put the fire out. Once fire department arrived, he indicated that it appeared to be an electrical fire. Once they moved the car, my husband attempted to start it and it started billowing out smoke. At that point, the fire department ordered him to turn it off and have the car towed and to not drive the vehicle again.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2013

I am filing another complaint to record this critical design issue based on all the recent cover-ups by the automotive industry. On Nov 10th,2013 my vehicle was hit in the rear while traveling approximately 25 mph by another vehicle at a speed slightly faster then my vehicle. When the vehicle hit us, the headrests deployed moving our heads forward but the seat belts did not restrain both the driver and the passenger. The driver sustained head trauma as a result. I contacted Hyundai motors about this serious condition and after many letters they said that the vehicle met all the test data in a collision. What they didn't say is that there isn't a test for rear collisions required by the nhtsb. There is an issue with the design of the headrests and the function of the seatbelt restraining capability. This can only be proven by either a rear collision resulting in serious injury or death or conducting a rear end collision at a slow speed by both vehicles. Hyundai did inspect the vehicle and the seatbelts ( measured them ; only inspection that could be made). Do we need to see another death resulting in the nhtsb and the auto industry avoiding testing to save money or ignore a safety problem.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

I have filed two other complaints on this issue ( 10548785 & 10558354 ) and had Hyundai address it without any satisfactory resolution. The latest response by Hyundai was to inspected the vehicle which was done on 1/23/2014 . At that time, I was told that Hyundai would contact me on the found results of this "inspection". Well here it is 2 mos later and I have not received any respnse from the person doing the inspection or from Hyundai. I recently contact Hyundai concerning this lack of response and was told that there wasn't a problem and that the vehicle issue is "normal " for the vehicle. I requested a letter from Hyundai stating specifically that" this soft pedal condition is a normal operating condition for the Genesis and that it is safe". I have not heard back from Hyundai to date. My concern is that Hyundai is stonewalling this issue just like gm has done with the issue of the faulty ignition that was known to be a problem years ago and is now coming to light. Where has the NHTSA been for all these years? what is the status of the investigation by NHTSA concerning the soft pedal problem with the Genesis? I will keep this as an open issue until the investigation is complete; let's hope it isn't buried in the NHTSA files for years like in the case of the gm issue with the faulty ignition switch. These investigations should be completede in 90 days or less.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

I missed my right hand turn that I usually make to exit my community, so I stopped and put the vehicle in reverse using the backup camera as a guide. I noticed that I was getting too close to the sidewalk curbing and I noticed a large tree not to far from the curbing, so I turned my body around to my right side to get a visual look. While I was doing this I put my foot on the break pedal, turned my body back to a normal driving position and the brake pedal went right to the floor never stopping the vehicle. The steering wheel suddenly moved to the right and then I heard a large sound ( the rear end of the vehicle crashing into the tree that I saw. ) all of this that happened took about seven to ten seconds!! I released my seat belt and got of the car to see the damage. The rear end of the bumper on the passenger side was severely damaged, the quarter panel on the same side was blown out and the top of the trunk toward the right side was actually ripped and dented. Ironically I had an appointed with the dealership to check the brakes the same day of the accident. I was determined to find out why the brakes failed. So I drove the vehicle knowing I had no brakes and miraculously made it to the dealership. The service personal saw how badly the vehicle was damaged and I explained to them what had happened. One of the girls in service department, I don't remember her name, completed the paper work and I was told I had to leave the vehicle. She also told me that there would no charge for any repairs because thats how Hyundai treats their customers thats' when old light bulb went off and I asked her if there were any recalls on vehicle and she said no. The next day I saw the repair form and that brake fluid was replaced twice and failed twice. He noticed that the auto antilock braking system module failed. He replaced that brakes o. K. I received back injury, under doctors care.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

I was driving out of my community to an appointment I had with Hyundai dealership to check brakes when I missed right turn. I stopped the car putt it in reverse using camera as my visual. I noticed I was getting closer to curb and sidewalk so I turned my body to my right and saw there was a big tree close to sidewalk. I was turning back to normal driving position and applying the brakes at same time when the pedal went completely to the floor, the steering moved to the right, never stopping the car. I heard a loud crashing noise and my body being severely jerked back and forth. I noticed the auto collapsing head rest popped up. I removed my seat belt put the car into park and went to see the damage. Sure enough I had hit the tree which showed no sign of damage but the rear bumper on the passenger side was severely damaged, quarter panel was blown out and top of the trunk middle right was actually ripped and torn. I was determined to see why the brakes failed so I drove the car without any brakes and miraculously made it to dealership. One of service girls saw my damaged car and asked what happened. I told her brakes failed. She told me not to worry because they will fix car without any charge because thats how Hyundai treats their customers. I asked if there were recalls on the car, she said no. They told me my car will be ready next day. I went next morning and asked for the report on car which said brake fluid was changed twice and brakes failed twice. The service tech noticed auto anti locking brake module failed. He put in a new one, replaced braking fluid for third time, test drove the car and said brakes ok. When driving car brakes felt better. At home I started to feel light headed and few days latter back and neck pains started to get worse. Pain was so bad I went to urgent care center, gave me an injection and predizone for inflammation and pain. I'm under pain doctors care.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

Driving about 40 mph, when I had to stop suddenly for the red light at the intersection, for some reason brakes was real soft. It was very clear that I wasn't able to stop the car as expected, checked all the fluids and brakes for any leaks. Everything looked normal but brake pedal still go all the way to the floor.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, he depressed the brake pedal but it went to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the abs module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000. The VIN was unavailable. VIN added* smch updated 10/31/cn the consumer also stated the electronics started to malfunction. The bluetooth would continuously disconnect the navigation system would freeze.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

I bought my 2009 Genesis brand new in September 2009. In April, 2010, I was told I had tire wear and needed new tires. Tires were wearing in the same pattern, cupping, along the edge. Placed my 5th set of tires on this Genesis in March 2014 and they are now cupped just like the four sets prior. Tires are always balanced. Have had alignment done and checked again later. Tires have worn in the same pattern since the first set when brand new. Tire brands have included dunlop, bridgestone, michelin, yokohama, and firestone. Technicians are stumped by this flaw.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

Since the car was purchased new in December 2008 if you put the gear shift in neutral (not park) and switch off the ignition then exit the car and the car is on a slope it can roll away. This has occurred twice over the years, once I exited the car and my wife had to dive over the console and take control. I filed a complaint with nhtsb and repeatedly requested to the dealer to fix it to no avail.
