1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2025

I am submitting this complaint regarding a catastrophic engine failure in my 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe while driving at 70 mph on the highway. Without any prior warning, the engine suddenly started making a loud knocking noise from under the hood, and shortly after, the car lost power. There were no check engine lights or other indicators signaling an issue before the failure. I was able to safely pull the car over to the side of the highway without further incident, but the engine was completely inoperable. The vehicle has since been inspected by a certified mechanic, who confirmed that the engine failure was due to a mechanical defect, likely tied to the known issues with Hyundai’s 2. 0t engines. These engines have been reported to suffer from bearing failures and lubrication problems that can lead to catastrophic engine failure, which is consistent with my experience. Despite being aware of this widespread issue, Hyundai has yet to issue a recall for the affected vehicles, which is a serious safety concern. Drivers are at risk of unexpected engine failure with no prior warning, especially at high speeds, as was the case in my incident. I believe Hyundai’s failure to act and address this issue puts the safety of drivers in jeopardy. I am requesting that the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) investigate this matter and encourage Hyundai to issue a recall for these vehicles. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request to further support the investigation. Thank you for your attention to this serious safety issue.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

This is my 2nd time that has happened, 1st time was about in Feb 15. 2014 and 2nd, on April 2,2014. Both times, I was on richmond hwy alexandria va driving abot 45 to 50 miles per hour. All of sudden the car decelerated to about 5 miles and I was flooring the pedal. I was in such a shock about this incident being that my car is only 1 year old. So we took it to the alexandria Hyundai dealership. The repair was very fast, they informed me that the throttle programming was off. I was in fear of my life since I drive through tunnels and bridges. I trusted that it will be fixed permanently but to find out that 2 months later I had to experience deathly re occurrence. I was so petrified and did not want to drive that car again so I requested to exchange to another car. My husband did all of the transactions for the new car. Few days later, paper work arrived, the salesman came to my work during busy time so I didn't have chance to read in details. Well the paper work read that my new car was 2013 instead of 2014. I was so upset in addition to my other issue and not wanting the same model and year. I feel that this car and may be the model is very dangerous and need to report for consumer to be aware of this problem. Thank you.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

I had to put in a date to make this work this a problem from the first day I bought the car. From a stop if I accelerated to a few miles per hour and for some reason I had to stop, when I pushed down on the accelerator nothing happened. After a second or two the car jumped forward and if another car was close I would have I would have rear ended it. Obviously, I am extra cautious and have avoided this problem. I reported it to the dealer twice and got the same answer, "OH they all do that. " the dealers are protecting Hyundai. Who will protect me? I checked online and found that there are many people with this problem. One person said he turned off the tracking control system. This is a dangerous problem especially for an inexperienced or novice driver.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

While in traffic, stopped and attempting to change to next left hand lane, car stalls for a few seconds instead of accelerate, then it takes off after delay. The delay will cause an accident. Have mentioned this to the dealer and they do nothing. Dealer says everything is operating as designed. Posted this incident on Genesis forum and have gotten numerous complaints describing the same problem as I have been experiencing. We have had the car now just over 1 year now and it still does the hesitation. This issue needs to be addressed before some one gets killed due to no accelerator response when in traffic. Other than this problem, we like the 2013 Genesis very much.
