Other Fuel System problem #1

Over the last 2 1/2 months the car has shut off approximately 5 times while driving, without warning. Most instances have been while pulling into a parking lot, but one time (so far) it shut off while trying to back into my driveway. I'm fearful it will happen while on the freeway. I took it to the dealer, but there wasn't a fault code so they refused to look at it unless I left the car with them to drive, and wanted to charge me $45/day for a rental so I could get back & forth to work until it happened again while they were driving it.

Other Fuel System problem #2

The fuel system appears to have a small leak from either a bad seal or a problem fuel line.

Other Fuel System problem #3

My Kona n line is not functioning well. Especially after driving for a longer period of time. About 60% of the time, upon letting go of my brake, the car jerks. Going from 0 - 5 mph is the worst. The car definitely hesitates many times. Again, it is when I have driven it for over 10 minutes. I took the car to a service department in el monte, CA on 11/1. They cannot find the problem. They rode with me and it did not show at that time. They released the car to me. The Kona n has a recall but not my car, the Kona n line. The recall is for the same problem. I am extremely frustrated. I have another appointment on Tuesday of this week to take to the glendora service department. I don't know what to do. I am not one to complain but this is not safe. This is my fifth Hyundai. Nothing but good cars until now. Please advise. [xxx] [xxx] . Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Other Fuel System problem #4

Ignition, speed and driving halts. I've had this Kona repaired a couple years ago and it took about 6-8mos to get my vehicle back, the this year 2025 the vehicle again is giving me problems. I thought of applying the lemon law however the week of the 6-8months being in the repair shop, I got the vehicle back, and the owner(mr. Crisostomo was very kind and understanding) so it made me be more patience nonetheless there's only so much he could do if he is not the one repairing the vehicle. I was offered carpets for my patience yet still have not gotten them and feel like a bother when I call to inquiry about them and it's not the service manager that I talk to , I feel otherwise. That could just be me, however I know good customer service if it's presence. For the actually year, I would need to check emails and records. But it's probably the year after so 2022 ( almost certain) now, this year, 2025. . I see that there is a recall that the dealership did not inform me. The vehicle is paid of last year, because I was going to relocate but that had changed. I found out about the recall cause my dad had died and step mother is using my other car so I'm using the Kona much more that 3 days a week. I keep dying out in one (1) day. . I died out twice. So I checked if there's a recall and there is. I would like my vehicle repurchased or credit for the amount purchased or I like a Jeep 2 door ( is fine) as a recovery vehicle, thank you.

Other Fuel System problem #5

My car intermittently loses power when I’m driving and I almost got hit yesterday.

Other Fuel System problem #6

While driving on the highway, our vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating without warning, forcing us to pull over immediately. There were no warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure occurred. We had to stop on a narrow shoulder with no guardrails, leaving us exposed to fast-moving traffic and putting our safety at serious risk. The vehicle was inspected by a local dealership, who diagnosed the issue as a failed fuel injector. This component is available for inspection upon request. The problem has not been reproduced, but the diagnosis has been confirmed by the dealer.

Other Fuel System problem #7

The car was unable to charge using level 3 DC fast chargers, necessitating the use of a level 2 charger for an extended length of time in order to be able to return home. A Hyundai dealer replaced the charging inlet lock actuator (invoice attached).

Other Fuel System problem #8

My engine started shuddering and stalling out on me. This was very dangerous as the car would stall out at street lights and intersections. The check engine light only came on after the car stalled out and has not stayed on during the times that it stalls out. When I went to get a mechanic to check it out they said that they had seen many Hyundai and kia cars that had the same issues. The issue was oil consumption. It was consuming oil faster than it should have, even though I was regularly getting my oil changed. This lead to a problem with my pistons. Now the engine needs to be replaced. But Hyundai won’t cover it because there is no recall on it and the power train warranty only last for the first owner. Is there any way we can request for a new recall on this vehicle as it is clearly a problem that Hyundai is having.

Other Fuel System problem #9

My Kona sputters when I put it in gear every time. I have purchased gas at several stations so getting bad gas in the tank cannot be an issue. I’ve also had to replace the coil packs twice within 6 months. December 2024 and July 2025.

Other Fuel System problem #10

One day after I filled my gas tank, I noticed a strong gasoline smell outside the car. The next morning, I noticed a huge puddle on the pavement under the fuel tank. At least a gallon of gasoline must have leaked out overnight while the car was parked. I also noticed that gasoline continued to drip down from the fuel tank to the ground. I then had the car towed to the mechanic and they discovered a crack in the mounting flange on the top of the plastic fuel pump. The car was not in a collision and there was no external force that could have caused the fuel pump to crack and leak.

Other Fuel System problem #11

When stopped at a light, I hit the gas and the car just sputtered. The car jolted and did not move, finally, hit the gas again it was able to move. It has happen before. My roommate's dad told me I need to keep track of problem and file a report. I was told the injectors needed to be cleaned. I put injector cleaner into it, it seem to help but it happened again. It seems the dealer just says something needs to be cleaned.

Other Fuel System problem #12

I received a notification by email from NHTSA about a recall for our 2023 Hyundai Kona n. It states that the recall has to do with loss of drive power from fuel pump failure. Your recall id 24v528 sent July 22, I phoned the dealer, mike murphy in peoria, illinois and they could not find this recall. I have an appointment with them on oct 24 to bring in my car for an oil change and to fix a recall on the trunk lock (I was not given any info on this recall until I contacted the dealership). Since I put in my VIN # above, it did not turn up anything either. What's going on and why are you sending recalls that have nothing to do with my vehicle (?).

Other Fuel System problem #13

Engine light began flashing while driving. Stopped vehicle and turned off engine. Vehicle would not restart. Mechanic says there is no compression and I need a new engine. I contacted the manufacturer who advised my engine was subject to recall but since I am a second owner and the first owner did not get the engine replaced there is nothing I can do.

Other Fuel System problem #14

My vehicle loses power while driving.

Other Fuel System problem #15

Car shut down while driving, would not turn back on. My safety was put at risk when I was driving on the highway and my car shut off 3 times without warning. I noticed rapid oil consumption, and now my engine has seized.

Other Fuel System problem #16

22’ Kona n dct base us spec. 5,600 miles est (2nd Kona) fuel used: shell premium outside temp: 76f/dry-clear sky. This is my 2nd Kona n, this is the 4th experience I’ve had with my Kona n’s. Towed the first on VIN# nu001519 to dealer, engine stalled after refueling during a road trip. 6/7k miles. Misfire. No replaced parts, car started acting normal. Then I traded it in for another Kona n in June 22’. The vehicle in normal mode is fine. I believe. Switching from n mode is where the engine starts misfiring and runs on 3,2cyl puffing out white smoke. Leaving me stranded. The codes all show via car touch screen, and obd reader/history. All electronics perform properly, including active safety features. I am Hyundai affiliated but I do not know how to relay the message. All of the Kona n/elantra n/veloster n dct. Need software updates. It’s a bug, I honestly think.

Other Fuel System problem #17

My 2023 Hyundai Kona sel fwd currently has approximately 1500 miles on the odometer. Pretty much since the day I my 2023 Kona sel on 9/3/2022, the car has had an issue where, after I start the car and begin driving it for about 20 or 30 seconds the car will lose power entirely. Engine shuts down, and the following warning codes illuminate-immobilizer, check engine light, battery light, and oil lights come on and the car prompts me to restart it. Sometimes an alarm will also sound, flashing red, with the following message on the vehicle's information display "engine off! shift to n, then start engine. " at other times the following message will appear "shift to p and n to start engine. " initially this happened once or twice a week, 1-2 times a day, usually after the vehicle has been powered off for 12 or more hours. As of the writing of this message, 11/2/2022, this issue occured 4 times in one day. The first time in the morning while I was driving the vehicle at low speeds and applied the brakes, and the other 3 times in the evening, also while I was driving at low speeds and applied the brake. Fortunately, vehicle shuts down when I am driving at low speeds while the brake is applied. I personally feel unsafe driving the car, because I am not sure if the issue will worsen and the vehicle will lose power while it being driven at higer speeds and public roasds. I have a servicing appointment scheduled my with Hyundai dealership for 11/11/2022 (this message is dated 11/2/2022). Honestly, I am very concerned the problem will worsen. I hope the dealership will be able to reproduce and rectify the issue. I have opened a case with Hyundai USA in this regard as well. I am not sure what specific system is causing the above warning lights and warnings to appear, or causing the vehicle to lose power while being driven at low speeds with the brake applied, but the vehicle would defintely be available for further inspection if needed.

Other Fuel System problem #18

8/29/20002, the abs brakes system and fuel injection system 10/31/2022, battery 11/8/2022, car stalled on the freeway 11/9/2022, car stalled on the freeway 11/19/2022, timing control and camshaft position sensors 12/2/2022, engine fire, the smell of burning plastic 1/9/12, grinding noise near the right rear tire. I can provide the invoices under separate cover .

Other Fuel System problem #19

The vehicle began making a clicking/ticking sound under acceleration and deceleration. The noise progressively worsened until the dealer diagnosed the motor as failing internally and replaced it under warranty. Several people online in forums have experienced the same issue, some cases resulted in the reduction gear catastrophically failing causing the vehicle to suddenly stop accelerating. I worry that this issue may result in more sudden drivetrain failures because of how widespread the problem is. Hyundai does not seem to have a definite solution as the noise comes back for many owners.

Other Fuel System problem #20

Vehicle engine randomly stalls when slowing down, at intersections, and while driving down the road in traffic. The lives of my children and I were directly put at risk by narrowly avoiding collisions due to the engine stalling. There are multiple lights that come on when engine stalls including the check engine light, and a car with a key, as well as several others. I have contacted the manufactures due to other vehicles of the same make model and year being under a recall for the exact same issue of engine stalling. Manufacturer is failing to acknowledge that the engine stalling is a serious safety concern, as seen in the same make model and year model vehicles. Manufacturer unwilling to help reconcile issues without me paying upfront for towing, repairs, and getting my own rental/loaner vehicle. I was referred to a dealership who told me it was my responsibility to ensure that the vehicle made it to them for an inspection, no towing, no loaner or rental vehicles. I am approximately 8 hours away from home at this time and unable to drive the vehicle at this time. Reference number for call with manufacturer. Reference for call #19850095.

Other Fuel System problem #21

My vehicle keeps shutting off with no warning and has almost killed me on multiple occasions the dealership keeps placating me about getting it fixed, saying that a repair is months out meanwhile, I am driving a very dangerous vehicle that shuts off and shakes like it’s going to explode.

Other Fuel System problem #22

My car is subject to recall #200 (ev battery replacement). I initially set my max charge level to 80% back in the spring, then was called by my local dealership for the battery replacement in early September. At that time, they checked my car in, but then sent me back out with it pending delivery of replacement batteries. I have reached out to the dealership several times since about the delay and they have responded that they're still waiting for batteries. It's been almost three months since my car was "checked in" for service.

Other Fuel System problem #23

I left my car with the dealer at the end of August for a repair, and they identified that recall 200 had to be done. I received a rental car at that time. It is now February and I have still not gotten my car back. I have contacted both the dealer and Hyundai corporate to try to find out what is happened but they just tell me there is no "eta" on the replacement part.

Other Fuel System problem #24

This vehicle was at alexandria Hyundai (virginia) for about a month for a couple of small issues and for recall work to be performed. Service advisor never informed us that the recall was intended to replace the ev battery pack if necessary upon inspection, and invoice only states "took picture of battery". Recall remains open.

Other Fuel System problem #25

Yesterday my car, Hyundai Kona 2019, stalled out for no reason while the vehicle was in motion. There were no warning signs on the panel. I change the oil regularly, but the car keeps burning oil very quickly before the next planned oil change, however, I never have any warning signs that my oil level is low. I could have gotten into an accident, and now I am afraid of driving because the car can stall at any moment, and cause an accident. The manufacturing company doesn't s solve this problem in a timely manner!.

Other Fuel System problem #26

I did follow the multiple recommended recalls. I have set my battery at 80% max charge on April 28, 2021. . On August 4th, it has been determined by the dealer that I needed a new battery. The battery has been ordered but we are still waiting for it. It has been 6 weeks so far. Since my current battery is only charged at 80%, I have not been able to use my car at is full potential for the past 5 months .

Other Fuel System problem #27

Hyundai is failing to provide the interim remedy promised in your safety recall report 21v-127 (attached). This remedy consists of simply disclosing the safe charging limit percentage for the propulsion battery. The recall report states, under remedy program, "owners will also be provided with instructions to manually lower the battery's state of charge limit via the infotainment system. " I requested that information from Hyundai customer care. However they replied "currently there is no remedy available. " (see attached) please direct Hyundai to make this information available forthwith so that I and other Hyundai ev owners can safely charge our vehicles.

Other Fuel System problem #28

The manufacturer has announced a safety recall (NHTSA recall number21v127000) due to the hazard of battery fire. It has been months since the recall was announced (and a year since battery fires were first reported) and the manufacturer has offered no remedy. Manufacturer has not provided timely communication or remedy to this safety problem, and we need help from NHTSA to get a safe solution to this fire danger. Hyundai either needs to provide a replacement battery immediately, or replace the car.

Other Fuel System problem #29

There has been a battery recall on our Kona ev since March 2021. We were asked to keep the battery charged only to 80% to prevent problems. Hyundai is aware that we need a battery and we were contacted in late summer to set up an appointment to replace it. Every time we try to set something up they tell us that they don't have the battery or the proper parts. This is unacceptable. We have spoken with the service writer several times without resolution. At this point we do not trust Hyundai and are extremely unhappy with our vehicle purchase given the ongoing safety concern of continuing to drive a car with a batter that has been recalled.

Other Fuel System problem #30

On 1/13/21, vehicle emitted a blue smoke and misfired when accelerating from complete stop from rural road onto state highway. . Vehicle was taken to ciocca Hyundai of williamsport, where it had been serviced 2 days prior. They replaced 2 spark plugs and stated it was fine. Vehicle worked fine until the following morning. The vehicle was misfiring during an acceleration from complete stop and eventually quit on me. I was on a state highway at this point. The vehicle was towed to ciocca Hyundai of williamsport. They serviced it until 1/18/21. Upon pick up, they stated that they believed it to be bad fuel that was causing the trouble. The fueling station I exclusively use has no reports of bad fuel besides mine. The following morning, 1/19/21, the vehicle's main display showed an error message that "a possible condition has been detected with the engine control system. Please take vehicle to nearest dealer. " see attached for image of this message. Ciocca Hyundai came and got the vehicle. They had it for two weeks. Upon receiving the vehicle back, they stated that it was just an "old code that wasn't cleared" and that the vehicle was not displaying any issues. 15 miles after leaving the dealership, that message reappeared. On 2/5/21, the vehicle felt like it was jerking slightly. I reported this to the dealer and they stated that the vehicle would be ok to operate in this condition. On 2/6/21, the vehicle emitted a blue smoke during acceleration from complete stop on side road. The vehicle then misfired to the point of almost quitting when pulling out onto a state highway from a complete stop. This could cause an accident. I reported this to the dealer who wants the vehicle to come in tonight for an appointment on 2/10/21. Hyundai consumer affairs has been notified of all of this but hasn't provided any course of action besides just investigation.

Other Fuel System problem #31

There is a recall on the ev battery system both on the Hyundai site and the ntsb site for this. Hyundai claims there is no such recall. My battery system does not function according to specifications. Hyundai says not to park the vehicle inside due to the possibility of catastrophic fire. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer will remedy the situation. They both deny there is any problem. I purchased the vehicle used from a dealer December 2020.

Other Fuel System problem #32

Manufacturer recall number200 NHTSA recall number21v127000 recall statusrecall incomplete summary Hyundai motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Kona electric and 2020 ioniq electric vehicles. The lithium-ion (li-ion) battery may short-circuit. I have been in touch with Hyundai corporate and they have no time estimate of when this recall can be completed. It has been way too long for this type of problem to not be fixed.

Other Fuel System problem #33

Delays in acceleration, not changing gears properly. Sometimes when accelerating the vehicle will just rev the engine like its in neutral. Acceleration delays very scary when merging, accelerating from full stop and passing. Bought April 2019.

Other Fuel System problem #34

The vehicle was purchased 11/6/2019. On 1/11/2020 while driving from oregon to California the main computer shorted out causing complete shutdown of the vehicle. It took the sacramento Hyundai dealership almost 3 weeks to deliver the vehicle back to me. Since then the vehicle has appeared to run well. However, my faith in taking the vehicle on long drives is at least shaken. Several recall notices have been issued for my vehicle. Most notably is number 200. A recall notice #196, received in November, 2020 states "the high-voltage battery system. . . May have been produced with internal damage to certain cells . . . That could increase the risk of an electrical short circuit . . . Increase the risk of fire. " on July 2020 I received another service campaign notice which stated "the high voltage battery monitoring system is being enhanced to include additional monitoring. . . ". On April 23, 2021 the local Hyundai dealership set the maximum charge to 80% as a result of another recall notice. Early in July, 2021 I received yet another recall notice which stating that vehicles battery cell manufactured in the lg energy solutions china plant could suffer an electrical short . . . Increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. I need to have a vehicle that is free from dangerous conditions. It is now 21 months since the dangerous condition in my vehicle was brought to Hyundai's attention. In one of the last paragraphs of Hyundai's latest recall notice they state that if they have failed or are unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable time, I may submit a complaint to you, NHTSA. I believe this situation meets that criteria. Thank you for your assistance, david steinberg.

Other Fuel System problem #35

When leaving home the vehicle had little acceleration and poor shifting. Took too much time merging into traffic. After contacting the local dealership the problem cleared up as it had done before. Drove to the local Hyundai dealership. Obdii code read p0193.

Other Fuel System problem #36

Little to no acceleration when gas pedal is depressed while in motion. Loss of power would suddenly occur. Transmission would no longer shift properly. This has occurred twice since newly purchased may 31, 2019. Fuel injector wiring harness was replaced after the first occurrence. Problem could not be duplicated after the second occurrence.

Other Fuel System problem #37

Once in a while when you step on GS pedal the car does not go for about 3 seconds, very dangerous when entering highway in front of traffic. Engine or transmission does not act or sound funny just seems like fuel system does not know gas pedal has been pushed. Happens only when you stop to turn and start to go again on street or highway. Took it to rick case Hyundai in weston florida they said ajusted transmission but did not fix problem, still doing same thing every now and then. It has happened about 15 times since I bought car 3 weeks ago in early December 2018.
