Body problem #1

I have a 2025 Hyundai Kona limited. On [xxx], around the afternoon on sunnyvale, California, while exiting [xxx] headed to lake tahoe, the liftgate bolt that attaches to the body had buckled mechanically as the system did not back away when a flashlight that came out of a travel bag was blocking the way to have it closed. The car computer thinks the liftgate is open even though the lock is secured. The car computer allows to drive without seatbelts secured or closures ajar for a few seconds at low speed but then it automatically with little warning engages the electronic handbrake while driving. I was driving on a highway in a middle lane when the car engaged without my consent the electronic handbrake locking the wheels and I almost got rear ended and killed by a semitruck. I had to floor the gas pedal and steer to a shoulder to request a tow. Since it was a long weekend before presidents day, I had the car taken to the nearest dealer in modesto California. Their service department invented a lie that due to a side crash, which was a failure of the collision mitigation system that happened months ago, is the cause and that it is my fault even though the driver admitted responsibility but it is an unrelated issue. There should be a way of overriding the car computer so it does not engage the electronic hand brake on the middle of the highway, specially at night as this creates a road hazard that can lead to death. I replicate the issue with a rental, a Hyundai tucson, they use the same gas strut and bolt that in my opinion has a very narrow gage. As you can see in the picture, the passenger side bolt is fine, the driver side is buckled. The side accident that happened on may 2025 was on the passenger side but the liftgate is fine; at any rate both sides should be deformed not just one if that were to be the case but it is not. Dealer and Hyundai attempting to sideline the issue to avoid a warranty and recall in my opinion. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Body problem #2

The plastic covers such as the wheel wells, inner fender linings, under body shield, are very prone to coming off by either minor objects intruding them or hitting them such as branches, rocks, or even water and sand. While driving on a highway at the upper peninsula in michigan on October, a large branch on the road got inside the front wheel well and it took it away. It flew into the highway as debris and cars began evading them. I had to replace it at my expense and it come off again while driving on sand on a beach in st. Augustine florida on December (the car is 4x4 off-road capable and sold as such). The underbody shield began coming off in a highway in near austin texas around a construction zone where loose gravel was present. Almost all plastic clips were missing after I was informed by a driver that plastic parts were coming off my car striking his vehicle. The wheel well of the driver side also began to come off. I had to zip-tie it; no holes were damaged but it was fully scratch and cracked in multiple locations from touching the pavement. I was hit on the side of the rear of the passenger side door and the plastic cover came off. I replaced it but it seems those plastic parts are superimposed and not well secured into the body of the car and can come off fairly easily during driving becoming road hazards that can result in a crash to vehicles driving from behind or even people or animals. I had a sonata and the same under shield came off while driving to miami on December 2024, their service department only had it cut leaving the underbody exposed.

Body problem #3

Body: the hood/under the hood: there is a wide ½“ or more gap on the right and left side of the hood. I can see inside under the hood from a distance. It is not flush while connecting to the rest of the vehicle. I can see the ground after opening the hood. The engine and all the components are exposed to the elements. This is a new vehicle from the dealership brand. There is no cover for the bottom to protect the engine or protection for wirings and other mechanisms under the hood. Winters in illinois is brutal and floods. Poor acceleration and brakes restriction while steering experienced dragging sounds and forced pushing and pulling. I do not trust the steering wheel mechanism at all and have to grip it to make sure I keep complete control of the steering wheel and fearful of the reliability of the breaks because I have experience being pulled or pushed while merging and having to panicky while using the brakes. I must press extremely hard to brake in slow traffic and use extreme hard brake to slow to a complete stop during rush hours. Fuel performance is horrible. This model requires gasoline. When I feel my vehicle up with fuel the tank is a fuel guzzler. The fuel disappears in days. I must refill the tank once a week. This car does not have good mileage. Doors all the doors automatically unlock when put in park. Fuel performance is horrible. This model requires gasoline. When I feel my vehicle up with fuel the tank is a fuel guzzler. The fuel disappears in days. I must refill the tank once a week. This car does not have good mileage. The steering mechanism is terrorizing my driving experience. Merging and changing lanes while driving in traffic I experience resistance and restriction. Inside the front panel inside the car appears to have glitches such as the temperature settings flipping from inside/outside air. The radio shuts down. Window fluid splatters the entire windshield obstructing view. Purchased 2025.

Body problem #4

A week after I got my 2025 Hyundai Kona limited, while trying to have the moonroof when headed into the highway since it gets too noisy if left open, the glass will touch the guard and then back away and remain fully open. However, the issue becomes more serious when it starts to rain or snow as it will remain open. In three occasions, the moonroof will not close. During a downpour, I had to use a large umbrella to avoid water to flood the car. Had I not had an umbrella or something to prevent water from getting in, the vehicle electronics could have become damaged including my personal belongings including but not limited to my sensitive medical equipment. Had I been in a snow shower, I will have gotten sick with a cold. I had reported the issue several times to different dealers and they only say it needs to be cleaned and reset. I had a sonata with the same moonroof for over three years and I never experienced such an issue.

Body problem #5

My car is a 2021, is only 4 years old and the paint is chipping very fast. I noticed it a few months ago and it is now about 3 inches height, and 1 inch wide. It’s going to continue and paying for a whole new hood when my car is only 4 years old is crazy.

Body problem #6

The suspension its really soft I dont feel safe driving on the freeway, the engine its 10000 miles its knoking already ,leather seats leather its coming out already transmission hits really hard all the plastic paint body panels around looks like it have dents on the plastic already.

Body problem #7

I took my car to Hyundai due to the rear spoiler squeaking on warm days. Sounded like it was rubbing plastic on plastic. The dealership wanted $200 to just look at what the problem might be. I couldn't afford that. I went home and researched how to look into it my self. I removed the interior top trim piece and 3 locking nut/washer combos fell out of the trim piece. Only 5 nuts hold the spoiler in place and the 2 other nuts were loose. My spoiler could have fallen off at anytime. Only reason I thought to check for this after I got home was someone mentioned the same problem on another Hyundai vehicle. This clearly is a problem. They are not adding any liquid lock or something to prevent this from happening. I am very good at working on cars, what if the next person isn't and they can't afford to pay to have the spoiler looked at and it falls off. Only thing left that would hold it on would be a brake light wire and the washer hose. I'm not sure if this is a wide spread problem, but if mine can come off driving it daily. I imagine their could be a bunch of spoilers loose and nobody realizes it.

Body problem #8

The rear door latch opens while vehicle is moving and I've have taken it to service and they don't know what failure is al about. Its a manufacture failure.

Body problem #9

The paint is peeling right now.

Body problem #10

Unable to open passengers rear door from inside.

Body problem #11

My vehicle was stolen in November of 2021, (many have been in milwaukee). I had a steering wheel lock (they had broken the back rear window in April 2021 in a thwarted attempt to steal, and the police recommended this), and the vehicle was parked under security cameras. They broke the window, disabled the ignition and took it for a ride and crashed it. My vehicle repair has not been completed due to the high volume of thefts, and delay by insurance companies making claims. It is now February 8, 2022.

Body problem #12

I found the shark fin cover of antenna located on rear roof area was no longer there exposing the antenna and base to the elements. There appeared to be no damage surounding the area to show how cover might have come off. I have not taken the vehicle through any automated car washes and have not been in any accidents. I took the vehicle to the dealership to see if the warrantee would cover replacement but they determined that it was theft. I am wondering if this is a common problem for other Kona owners.

Body problem #13

Car antenna broke off while driving on the interstate. Possible projectile that can cause an accident. Airconditioning system in the car smells like mildew. Possible prolong exposure that can cause a health hazard. It only happens when the car starts every time.

Body problem #14

Front passenger side of car, the front of car, disconnect from frame and fell to ground. Without realizing it, backed out driveway, dragging the fallen end and ripping the whole front of car off except for a 3 inch "fiberglass" piece that held the divers side on to car. (pictures available).
