2 Seats problem of the 2021 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 06/27/2025

The hvac drainage system in my 2021 Hyundai Kona failed due to a clogged ac drain line, which led to water leaking into the cabin and mold growth. The dealer reported the drain was blocked by a spiderweb and that moisture had collected under the driver and passenger carpets. They unclogged the line, but did not inspect beneath the carpet or inside the hvac system. Soon after, I experienced musty odors, asthma flare-ups, and headaches while driving. At-home mold tests under the passenger seat and footwell came back positive. White mold was also visibly growing under the carpet. A similar issue occurred in my fiancé’s Hyundai elantra, also purchased from the same dealer. His ac drain was clogged and mold tested positive in the cabin, though his car had no smell. Our vehicles are stored in different environments, which rules out external environmental causes and points to a broader design flaw. There are Hyundai forums online confirming this same issue is not isolated to us. Even if spiderwebs were involved, a single web should not disable a critical drainage function and cause health risks. Hvac systems should be designed to resist common environmental factors like debris or insects. I am a cancer survivor (diagnosed in 2024) and must avoid environmental toxins like mold. Despite repeated outreach to Hyundai and the dealer, I was told no inspection or remediation would be provided beyond detailing, which is not sufficient for mold. Component that failed: ac evaporator drain tube confirmed by dealer: yes manufacturer inspection: no – Hyundai declined to investigate safety concern: yes – mold has triggered respiratory symptoms and makes the vehicle unsafe for passengers.

3 Seats problem of the 2024 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

On June 5, 2025 I picked up a passenger who couldn't sit in the passenger seat because the headrest is canted at an unsafe angle so the passenger looks down and cannot look straight through the windshield. There is a page in the manual that shows the headrest is adjustable; this is wrong because the headrest is not adjustable. On July 2, 2025 I took it the vehicle in for recalls and asked about this; the service worker said there is no solution because replacement headrests are the same.

4 Seats problem of the 2019 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 02/19/2025

1-the turn lights(right and left turn)died too quickly. I change my bulb every month . I went to independent service center and they told me the car must have some wrong wire that doesn't support bulb. Even if I change my bulb ,it doesn't take long and a warning signal come out and stated that I need to check my light. It is so annoying. This happened one year after I start driving the car. 2- the passenger seat is too low that you don't feel comfortable seating inside. It is not possible to bring it up. I went to the dealer but they wasn't at the same location anymore. 3- the windshield wipers fails to operate properly, component can't wipes properly. After one year driving the car I noticed that wipers are loosing their components. 3-defective straps by passenger side,I noticed it when I start to give ride to a friend after a year owned this car. 4-my engine symbol is showing. I went to an independent center ,nobody can fix it . I sent the car to Hyundai ,they told me I have to spend $10000 to have the engine fix. I don't understand I was doing all my oil changes on time. Now I have to drive this car with my engine light on. I am still fixing it but it is costing me too much.

6 Seats problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

The Hyundai Kona was struck head-on by another vehicle. There was one driver and one minor passenger in the right rear seat in the Hyundai Kona. The driver had minor injuries while, unfortunately, the accident was fatal to the passenger. The impact of the collision caused the right rear seat to snap forward, fracturing the passenger's neck. The cause of death for the passenger was blunt force trauma caused by the neck fracture. If the seat had stayed in place during the impact, the passenger's neck would not have been fractured. The vehicle is no longer available for inspection. To our knowledge, the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The vehicle was inspected after the accident by the police. There was no symptom of the problem prior to the accident.
