1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

2020 Palisades oil was changed on time by my husband and at valvoline but has had extreme oil consumption after hitting around 90,000 and before oil change was due my engine is now ticking and is essentially blown.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

The front moonroof scattered suddenly while driving about 45 mph. No outside impact or other damage. The rear moonroof is in perfect shape. The car has 26,721 miles.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2026

While traveling to abilene TX to see my doctor my check engine light came on. I pulled into the Hyundai dealership and ask the service advisor to plug into my vehicle and let me know what was going on. After he talked to his service manager he advised me that they "where to busy" and the earliest they could get me in would be the next Monday. This was Wednesday. My home is 100 miles from abilene. I asked if he thought it would be alright and he said sure. I barely made it back to big spring before it started clinking and cluttering. It sound horrible. My son said it sounded like it through a rod. He checked the oil and said that I had low oil however my low oil light did not come on. I notified the dealership and was advised that I had to have it towed back to the shop in abilene which I did. After a week passed I was in abilene and stopped to check on my vehicle. Needless to say my repairs are in excess of 20k. New engine etc. And rear suspension is out also. After researching I have found I'm not the only owner with these problems. There are numerous complaints about these problems with the Palisade. This is a danger to all who own this vehicle. Fires, accidents and no telling what can affect us. All these vehicles need to be recalled because of the engine that was placed in these vehicles. The engine is eating oil fast. My oil changes were on time. Hyundai and the dealership are unwilling to offer any help in repairing my vehicle. The parts on the suspension are sub standard. I can't believe they are called the #1 SUV in America! buyers need to be aware of the substandard parts and engine. They also need to be aware the Hyundai doesn't stand behind their product or the dealership either for that matter. I shutter to think of who I could've been on the side of the road with a blown on fire engine. I'm thankful I made it home before the vehicle cratered.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2026

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? "the tempered glass panel of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was in motion. The glass exploded outward with a loud report similar to a gunshot. Yes, the vehicle and the remaining glass fragments are available for inspection upon request 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the sudden, explosive noise caused an immediate distraction and startle response while traveling at highway speeds (approx. 70 mph), creating a high risk of a collision. Furthermore, glass shards fell into the cabin onto the driver and passengers, posing a risk of lacerations and eye injuries. Shards also blew out onto the interstate, creating a road hazard for following vehicles. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not yet. The vehicle is currently being scheduled for inspection 4. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? "no warning lamps or messages appeared. There were no prior symptoms of glass stress, such as cracking or creaking. The failure was instantaneous and spontaneous with no prior indication of a defect. ".

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2025

The weather became cold outside. After first frost overnight, an oil leak started underneath the hood next to the front passenger side tire. Got in be serviced 11/19. Told the plastic piece to oil housing assembly cracked and had 9 other Palisades in for same exact issue. No warning lamps. Cost $519 to replace part.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2025

I was driving through town at a low rate of speed (20-30 mph) with 2-3 car lengths between me and the next vehicle. I continued through light to next light. This distance was on an upward incline. After traveling approximately 500 ft, I noticed the traffic slowing in front of me and took my foot off the accelerator to start to slow down. This is when the car suddenly accelerated (instead of slowing down as would be expected when traveling up an incline), picking up speed quickly. The car's response happened so quickly that I was unable to swerve to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I hit the car in front of me that was slowing down at the light which then subsequently hit several other vehicles that were in front of it that were also slowing/stopped for the light. The front airbag deployed as a result of the collision, knocking my glasses off. The vehicle was still continuing in forward motion after the collision…. Traffic crash report states, “. . . [witness] went up to unit 1 [palisade], and the tires were still spinning…” as I was in shock after the collision, a bystander came up to the vehicle to turn it off and this is when the wheels/forward motion was completely stopped. This Palisade is equipped with forward collision avoidance assist (fca) system. There was no warning given nor did the vehicle attempt to slow down during the event so I believe that this system failed to operate which contributed to the collision. I also believe that there was a failure with the engine/electrical system, etc, and/or transmission that caused the system to suddenly accelerate while traveling uphill after I removed my foot from the gas pedal. The vehicle was totaled by my insurance company. They did say that they were sending an engineer to review the event data recorder. I have not seen any results from that nor do I have the vehicle in my possession as it was totaled.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2025

The air compressor on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade with 55,321 miles has completely malfunctioned. The issue was diagnosed by five star Hyundai dealership in macon, georgia on 9/26/25 and is currently available for inspection. The repair will cost $1,781. A failed a/c compressor in a 5-year-old vehicle could put my safety or others’ safety at risk due to reduced visibility from poor defrosting, driver impairment from extreme heat, and secondary damage affecting critical systems like steering or electrical power. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to air compressor failure. However, Hyundai has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) for certain 2020–2022 Palisade vehicles regarding the ac compressor. Bulletin 24-ha-003h: this TSB addresses reduced ac performance due to an "out of specification" ac compressor pulley and hub assembly.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

The sunroof wind deflector broke when I simply opened the sunroof, and the sunroof is now stuck in the open position. I wish TSB 23-bd-003h-1 would've included my VIN so I could've addressed this issue prior to it breaking. Now I am faced with a $3400 repair bill from Hyundai. Hyundai said there is no cheaper option to partially fix it to at least get it closed. Other repair shops are referring me to Hyundai to complete the repair.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2025

On [xxx], while driving on the freeway, my 2020 Hyundai Palisade suddenly malfunctioned and went up in flames without warning. My young son was in the vehicle with me. Within moments, smoke and fire spread rapidly, forcing us to stop in traffic and escape before the fire fully engulfed the car. The entire vehicle became a total loss. This was a terrifying, life-threatening situation. My safety and my son’s safety were at extreme risk. If my other family members had been in the car, the outcome could have been catastrophic. The emotional trauma from this event is significant and continues to affect us. The incident was reported to the san antonio fire department, who responded to the scene and documented the fire. Their reports confirm the vehicle fire: incident report #[xxx] and safd case #[xxx]. After researching, I discovered that similar fires have been reported in Hyundai vehicles, raising concerns that this is part of a wider safety defect. Families should not have to fear their vehicle spontaneously igniting on the road. At the time of the fire, there were no warning lamps, error messages, or symptoms that suggested the vehicle was unsafe. The failure happened suddenly and without warning. The vehicle has not been inspected by Hyundai at this time, but it is available for inspection upon request. I am urging a full investigation into Hyundai’s design and safety practices, as this fire placed lives in immediate danger. This was not just a mechanical failure—it was a potentially fatal event that could have resulted in severe injury or loss of life.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2025

August 2025: while driving down the road and approaching a light, I slowed down to turn and make a left. As I braked, all lights on the instrument panel lit up and the car completely turned off. After several attempts to start the car again, the car started. After taking it to a shop, it was determined that the car had consumed all oil, despite being within the recommended milage range for oil change. I filed a complaint with Hyundai, who emailed me to talk to my local dealership. I responded and have yet to receive a response to my communication, as of February 20, 2026. Hyundai dealership has told me that I need to fail three oil consumption tests (I have), complete a combustion cleaning (it has recently been completed), and fail one more consumption test before they can submit to corporate for a new engine. In the meantime, I have experienced my car shaking, the smell of burning oil, my car "jolting" forward while driving at sustained speeds, and a tailpipe that is completely black with 67,800 miles currently on the car.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

Vehicle information: year: 2020 make: Hyundai model: Palisade component(s): air conditioning system / a/c compressor problem description: the air conditioning compressor on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade has failed and does not function properly. The a/c system does not blow cold air, making the vehicle extremely uncomfortable and unsafe in hot weather conditions, especially with small children riding in the vehicle. Hyundai has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) regarding a known defect with the a/c compressor in this model. Despite this, the dealership and manufacturer have refused to cover the repair or replacement under warranty or goodwill, even though this is clearly a widespread and acknowledged defect. I was quoted nearly $5,000 for the repair, which I cannot afford. Safety concern: while the issue may appear to be only comfort-related, lack of functioning a/c creates real safety risks: heat-related health concerns in hot climates, particularly for small children and elderly passengers. Reduced visibility if the defroster system does not work properly (since the a/c system is needed to remove moisture and fog from windows). Timeline of events: vehicle purchased: purchased December 2023 first noticed issue: 8/2/2025 brought vehicle to dealership: 09/12/2025 dealer confirmed issue with a/c compressor but refused repair, citing that only certain vins or conditions are covered, even though a TSB exists. Request: I am filing this complaint because Hyundai is aware of this widespread a/c compressor defect (per their TSB) but is not providing proper warranty coverage or resolution. This places an unfair financial burden on consumers and presents a potential safety hazard, especially for families with small children who cannot safely ride in extreme heat without a functioning a/c system.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2025

Sunroof stuck in partially open position and will not close. This is a known issue with a technical service bulletin: TSB #mc-10235352-0001.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2025

On July fourth, while driving, the vehicle began to shake and make a rattling noise, shifted into park, and the dashboard lights lit up. While attempting to reach the safe side of the road while driving downhill on a busy road, the car lost power. I was able to pull over, restart the car, and reach a safe destination. I took the vehicle to the mechanic, who initially said I needed new tires, so all four tires were replaced. Three days later, the incident with the car shifting and losing power occurred again. The second time, I took it to the Hyundai dealership, which determined that only an oil change was needed, although I had completed regular maintenance on the vehicle. In November, the vehicle began shaking again and lost power while in motion. Again, the vehicle was taken to the Hyundai dealership, which stated that there were possible issues with the oil consumption.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

The instrument cluster seems to fail more so in the hotter weather. The speedometer, rpms and gas gauge just stop working altogether. This seems extremely similar to the issues of other Hyundai vehicles that were recalled. The blind spot monitoring turns on and off as it pleases and there is a message that comes up sometimes that say it has been turned off due to electrical failure. The hdmi port in the counsel does not work but half the time so using android auto fails constantly. The radio signal is very poor in the car, resulting in static and high pitched noises on the stations and cannot use regular stations. There also is a huge oil consumption and oil burn smell and leak. This also seems very common for other Hyundai vehicles that have been recalled. Having to put 4-5 quarts in per month and only drive it maybe 1,500 miles in that time frame. There is a pause bumpiness when having to accelerate sometimes as well, followed by failure of oxygen sensor smells and baffles within the muffler seem to often have weird sounds. Have had the vehicle for 1 year and it was bought as a Hyundai certified pre-owned vehicle. It only has about 85k miles on it.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2025

Went to open the sunroof the back opened a little but would not open all the way and now it won’t shut either. I’ve seen a few other owners say that this happened to them as well.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

Ac failire im summer, just outside warranty but TSB issued. Holler Hyundai service wants to charge me $350 diagnostic fee to take a look and diagnose. Extreme heat while having to use vehicle to go to work, run errands and transport children. No alternate vehicle is available and dealership is unreasonable to work with. Due to high humidity in florida windows fog and hard to defog, visibility is impaired suddenly while driving.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2025

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a safety concern regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Recently, when I attempted to operate the sunroof, it only opened partially and made a crackling sound. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that some of the internal plastic components were breaking apart, and now the sunroof does not close properly. After researching this issue online, I discovered that numerous other owners are experiencing the exact same problem. For reference, here are a couple of user-reported discussions highlighting similar experiences: [xxx] [xxx] additionally, I came across a technical service bulletin (TSB) related to this very issue, which can be found here: [xxx] however, when I checked my vehicle’s VIN, it did not appear to be included in the list of affected models, despite my vehicle exhibiting the same symptoms described in the bulletin. This leads me to believe that the scope of affected vins may not have been fully identified. Given the number of similar complaints shared by other Hyundai Palisade owners, it appears this may be a more widespread issue than initially recognized. I respectfully request that NHTSA consider investigating this matter further, as it may help protect and support additional Hyundai customers who are dealing with this problem and have not yet been offered a resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2025

Oil consumption causing hesitation and near-stalling. Hard shifting as well. These issues led to dangerous situations where I was afraid to drive the vehicle and feared for my family's safety. Also had a failed a/c compressor which I had to replace out of pocket. These things shouldn't be happening on a 4 year old vehicle.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2025

1. Left-side captain chair: upon braking or movement slightly --the seat will come unsecured and jolt forward - causing whomever passenger who sits in it to move forward. 2. Tailgate locking lever: trunk no longer opens upon pressing the button on the exterior. Trunk only opens upon utilizing the safely unlocking feature inside the vehicle - for emergencies only. Should not fail after 4 years. 3. Engine burning oil: July 2024 refilled oil change - December 2024 - four (4 ) quarts of oil lost - vehicle is burning oil at unreasonable rates.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2025

Description of incident: the engine in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade limited failed and ultimately seized despite having been regularly maintained and receiving an oil change less than 3,000 miles prior to the failure. The component that failed was the engine, and according to the dealership, it is seized and no longer operable. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: the failure posed a significant safety risk. The engine began shaking while the vehicle was in motion, creating a sudden loss of power and drivability. I pulled over immediately and discovered that the engine oil dipstick was dry. I added oil right away, but the engine shut down shortly after. The abrupt loss of engine function while driving could have led to a serious accident had I been in traffic or at highway speed. Reproduction / confirmation: yes, the issue was confirmed by Hyundai at courtesy, a certified Hyundai dealership. They diagnosed the engine as seized and also confirmed that oil was present at the time of inspection, ruling out owner neglect. Inspections conducted: the vehicle and failed component (engine) have been inspected by the dealership, who submitted a case to Hyundai. However, the case was denied for goodwill coverage despite the circumstances. The manufacturer has been notified but has not physically inspected the engine themselves beyond the dealership’s report. Warning lamps or symptoms: no check engine light, oil pressure warning, or any dashboard message illuminated prior to or during the failure. The only symptom was engine shaking, which began just before the engine shut down. The oil loss occurred silently and without warning, making the issue especially dangerous and difficult to detect in time.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2024

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the engine failed, as it was deemed "shot" by the dealership. Yes, the engine and vehicle are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the vehicle began to stall while driving, which could have caused an accident, especially if the vehicle stalled in traffic or at high speeds. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, the problem was confirmed by the dealership, which diagnosed the engine as needing replacement due to a lack of oil. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the vehicle has been inspected by the dealership. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes, the vehicle exhibited strange noises in the last week of October 2024 and symptoms of stalling in early November 2024. The check engine light turned on while driving to the dealership, just before the final diagnosis.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2024

While sitting at a stoplight with no moving passing traffic around my vehicle. There was a loud pop/crash sound that came from the roof. I pulled my car into a parking lot and found my sunroof had a large hole in the middle and was shattered. The glass is pushed upwards. My internal shade was closed, which kept glass from falling inside and on me. I was not hit by a foreign object, by all indications the glass spontaneously exploded.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

Unknown the sunroof shattered as we were driving down the interstate. To our knowledge nothing hit the sunroof to make it shatter. We did not see any rocks or debris. This is a safety issue as if we wouldn’t have had the inside shade closed we would have been showered with glass while driving at highway speeds and could have been injured.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2024

On Friday 6/28/24 I turned my vehicle on to drive to lunch. I put the vehicle in drive and started to move forward out of my parking spot when the following errors flashed on my dashboard in succession: "check forward collision-avoidance assist system", "check lane departure warning (ldw) system", and "check high beam assist system" and then the steering wheel locked while the vehicle was still moving forward. I put the vehicle in park, turned it off, turned it back on and there were no problems. On Saturday 6/29/24, the same series of events happened in the evening when turning the vehicle on from park. On Sunday 6/30/24 I turned the vehicle on in the morning and backed out of my driveway. When I put it in drive and started going down the road the same series of events happened again. This time, it did not resolved when I turned the vehicle off then back on, but happened 7-8 times in succession. The vehicle was not driven all day and when I turned it back on Sunday evening it seemed fine. I drove across town to meet a friend, put the vehicle in park to wait, then in drive (so it had been running for approx 30 minutes) and the issue happened again. On Monday 7/1/24 I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and the issue happened to the tow truck driver as he was getting the vehicle off of the truck. On Friday 7/5/24 I called the dealership and they have "verified my concern" but are not sure why it is happening. I am now waiting to hear back from them on this issue. I have read on an online forum that multiple people have had this same issue with the Palisade.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2024

Driving along i94 then suddenly heared a popping sound when I checked the sunroof exploded/ shattered to pieces.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2024

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade slipped into neutral while slowing down in traffic. Was able to quickly pull over, brake and put back into drive. Happened 3 more times while slowing down for turns on my way home. All happened under 15 mph and had a slight grinding sound when placed back into park, drive then accelerating. Plan to take it to the Hyundai dealership tomorrow, but scared to drive it!.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

Engine is burning oil at a rate that requires me to put 2 quarts of full synthetic oil every 2-3 weeks in my car. Hyundai is ignoring this problem and dealership says my engine is burning in a normal range. This is a known issue with these engines at Hyundai over the past few years and if it is burning that much oil without any leaks there is no way that is safe.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

Due to a recall that Hyundai has not fully resolved, I am unable to use the oem tow hitch that I paid for when I purchased my car because there is not an updated fuse for the trailer hitch. Hence, trailers won't have lights, making them illegal and unsafe. The Hyundai dealership "resolved" the recall by removing the fuse several months ago, but never replaced it. Furthermore, the dealership never told me that I was unable to use the tow hitch. I was only told that the recall was resolved.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

Trunk strut/ spring plastic broke off making trunk not being able to close properly. Had to manually close trunk due to issue and eventually spring completely broke off and unable to close trunk. Safety hazard because trunk slams without having strut spring which could cause serious damage/injury to person/children if closed on. Read online that issue was happening. Hyundai said no warranty or defect. However have had multiple dealerships say that they have replaced this issue on Palisades.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

On February 2024, I took the SUV to lynn's Hyundai for an issue with a front sensor or the braking system - the problem is when you're driving at times very often in the streets, the vehicle will automatically cause the brake sensor to go off the dashboard with light up and the brakes will engage causing the vehicle to jerk hard and or stop at times and I have a huge concern that this may cause a serious accident. I was told by Hyundai service department, that perhaps were driving to close to other vehicles to cause this, but it happened several times when there are no vehicles or objects present. Apparently they had no interest in resolving this matter, they claim that the system test showed no duplication of said issue, vehicle was taken on a road test and they found no issues, the recall were all fixed, and I was called to pick up vehicle. I drove a few and the braking started again, so I pulled over and started recording to see if happens again and I was able to catch some of this problem on video. This has caused my husband to lose control of the vehicle causing him to hit a cone on the road. Your immediate help with this matter would be greatly appreciate.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2023

Vehicle front and rear suspension has unsafe shock/strut equipment, which causes lack of control while driving, audible noise within the passenger compartment, and rough handling.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Recall 235 was performed incorrectly by a dealership in tacoma, wa. My Palisade 2020 has an oem trailer hitch and wiring harness. The dealership completed the inspection in spite of the fact that the instructions say not to when there is an oem hitch and wiring harness. The tacoma dealership pulled the trailer fuses and my local dealership in kirkland wa refused to do the harness replacement. They said Hyundai would refuse to pay for it. I am also trying to get the dealership I purchased the car from three months ago to do the install. But that is in another city. The updated 235 recall is now out with the repair procedure shown and I am having trouble getting dealers to do the harness replacement due to the fact that they say there are 0 recalls left to do for my Palisade. I need your site to show that the replacement recall (just issued) is needed for my car. It is recall 23-01-044h and is an update of the original 235 recall.
