Rear shocks failed. Were replaced under warranty. This is the second time this has occurred.
At low speed, and today for the first time completed stopped at a stop sign, we here and feel a very loud "thunk" through the steering wheel and coming from under the front end of the vehicle. It's very loud and jerks the steering wheel when it happens, and can be felt through the car seats as well. The whole vehicle seems to shake. This has happened so far approximately ten times, and we are losing confidence in the car's safety. The dealer told us that he had not heard of this problem, but we know that to be untrue, because a simple google search reveals that it is a known issue.
I was at work and went to move my car in our parking garage. I hit a bump and my front tires started to shake along with my steering wheel, and my brakes wouldn't work. I briefly lost total control over the brakes, steering wheel and tires causing me to almost hit a parked vehicle before everything self corrected. No alerts came on. I recently was hit on my rear passenger side and had repairs done to my vehicle. I had also experienced this shortly after I purchased the car and the dealership supposedly fixed the issue. I’m not shew if the wreck causes this issue to malfunction again or what, but this isn’t safe. I just reported the issue to the collision center that recently repaired my vehicle. Waiting on a response.
2023 Hyundai Palisade VIN [xxx] vehicle rear shock absorbers failed. Steering and drivability adversely impacted. Many many many complaints online document these defective parts and Hyundai's failure to resolve problems and supply properly functioning parts. Hyundai customer service is useless and claims no information on replacement part availability or time. Now that Hyundai has their newest problem of killing babies in their defective third row seats, I would have thought Hyundai would resolve outstanding issues. Nhtsa needs to intervene now. I am writing to report a recurring safety-related issue with my 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The rear shocks on my vehicle failed at approximately 29,000 miles and were replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, the same components have failed again at around 65,000 miles, resulting in a noticeably rough, unstable, and unsafe ride. The repeated failure of these suspension parts raises concerns about the durability and reliability of the vehicle’s rear shock system, as well as the potential risk it poses to occupants and other drivers. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed to determine whether a broader defect investigation is warranted.
I'm also a victim of Hyundai's defective rear suspension. Another complain fully encompasses my situation and feelings. I and others have been replacing rear shocks every 10,000 to 20,000 miles due to failure. The upper trim models will use a self-leveling shock in the rear suspension, part number(s) 55367-s8bdo right side and 55367-s8bbo left side. The lower model trim uses a larger coil spring and non-self-leveling shocks, with no issues. The failure happens within just a few thousand miles. Search web forums for Hyundai Palisades and NHTSA you will find hundreds of issues. The model years affected are 2020 through 2025. The 2026 has completely changes the rear suspension setup and eliminated the self-leveling shock. It appears imo the manufacture is counting on the warranty expiring and or the resale market to correct their problem. Hyundai refuses to recall the vehicles and correct the problem. They will change the shocks with the same faulty product biding their time. The third most common critical reason for a car accident cited in the NHTSA report was a combination of “steering/suspension/transmission/engine-related problems. ” this combination category accounted for just 3 percent of the traffic accidents cited in the report. Part of the reason why these mechanical failures are rarely cited as the critical reason for a car accident is that they’re harder to document and identify post-crash. Blown tires & worn brakes are easy to spot, but problems with the suspension caused by wear and tear are harder to sort out from the damage incurred in the crash. Steering and suspension problems can cause a loss of control over your vehicle at inopportune moments. Transmission and engine problems could keep you from being able to accelerate quickly if the need arises—leaving you stranded in an intersection with oncoming traffic and at risk of a car accident.

Routine vehicle maintenance is the best way to prevent steering and suspension issues that could contribute to a car crash. The problem still remains Hyundai will not change the manner of repair. It's time you finally step up and have Hyundai issue a recall on the rear shocks that fail. The problem is on the upper trim models with self leveling shocks. The shocks fail and will need to be replaced every few thousand miles. The problem exist for years 2020 to 2025. The new models for 2026 Hyundai has completely reworked the rear suspension and no longer uses the self leveling shock. The dealership admits they stock a fair number of shock parts due to the constant failure. Unless you are in the pockets with Hyundai it's time for you NHTSA to make some noise and require a recall. . . The rear suspension can be corrected with larger coil springs and non-self leveling shocks. I have been through 3 sets of shocks in 25,250 miles. Do you see a problem, or should I call and talk with someone?.
Leased vehicle in 2023 after a few months rear suspension was giving problems after a year of ignoring claims they saw the rear bushings were out. They changed it and after a few months again the problem came back more permanent. They admitted the part was faulty. Change the suspension and now it sounds like a space ship when breaking. Went in for 30k maintenance and now the ac vents sound like a plane. Two days later after a storm I see the roof is leaking and rear sunroof is also leaking. Since the near three year ownership it has been problem after problem not cause by me but by poor quality management at the dealer.
Knocking sound when making turns or when going over bumps major and minor.
I am experiencing recurring failure of the rear self-leveling shock absorbers on my 2023 Hyundai Palisade calligraphy. This is a repeat failure after a warranty repair approximately 10 months ago in which both rear shock absorbers were replaced along with the upper insulators per TSB 22-ss-001h. Current symptoms: the noise occurs on both sides, primarily at lower speeds (under 20 mph), and is most noticeable when the vehicle is turning and weight transfers off a wheel, or when encountering a series of small, sharp impacts. The noise does not occur consistently with every bump but appears related to suspension unloading. Abnormal "pogo-ing" behavior: on smooth road surfaces at speeds between approximately 5-20 mph (such as in slow traffic on freshly paved roads), the rear of the vehicle exhibits a rapid, repetitive bouncing motion that jolts passengers forward and back. This behavior is pronounced enough that passengers have noticed and questioned it. Symptoms are noticeably worse in cold weather and improve somewhat in warm conditions. The rear suspension feels firmer after the vehicle has sat unused for several days. After regular driving, the suspension becomes softer and more compliant. This is a widely documented problem affecting 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade models equipped with the nivomat shocks, per carscoops Hyundai is aware of the problem. Online forums and complaint databases contain hundreds of similar reports. Many owners report multiple shock replacements under warranty, with some experiencing 3-7 replacements on a single vehicle. The replacement parts appear to be the same design as the original components and fail at similar or accelerated rates. This issue can affect vehicle stability and braking distances, making it a concerning safety issue. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this recurring suspension failure as a safety defect warranting a recall and the development of properly redesigned replacement components for affected vehicles.
Vibrations on the rear side started happening last October 2024. Seats were shaking while driving. In addition to the rough ride, clunk and rattling are heard while going over small bumps. Took it to dealer Feb 10, 2025, and tech found rear shock mounts are bad. The write up also said they replaced the shocks. It was all under warranty. Vehicle is only 13k miles, and suspect/concerned that the replacement may not last long too. Please investigate for possible recall.
Loud clanking/banging/creaking noise coming from rear of vehicle. Both rear shock absorbers replaced and strut insulators replaced at 4988 miles! back at 37700 for the same issue. I was told by the service tech that the strut mounts needed to be replaced. This seems to be a going problem with Hyundai! please look into it.
Rear shocks keep breaking and needing to be replaced. Vehicle has about 35,000 and is about to go into the dealership for it 7th and 8th rear shocks in the last 9 months. If I was not vigilant about looking out for this problem, it would create an extremely unsafe vehicle on the road. This seems to be a common issue with the vehicle and the dealership even admitted it. There is a flaw in this oem part and Hyundai has not recognized the problem to create a more reliable replacement part. The first instance of replacement was oct 2024, the second was early June 2025. It is now the end of June 2025 and I have to bring the vehicle back again for more rear shocks.
Rear struts need to be replaced and vehicle only has 17,200 miles. Seems like a shoddy made vehicle with who knows what other structural problems. I do not trust this vehicle and feel afraid to drive it.
Repeated issues of rear self leveling shocks/suspension noise.
After about 10000 miles, started to notice a thumping sound then it got progressively worse. The ride started to get rougher and thumps all the time. Dealer verified rear shocks bad and ordered new set. Now at 14000 miles and shocks still on back order. Was told that this is happening all the time and that the replacement shocks are the same as what came on the vehicle. This does not solve the problem. Soon handling will suffer.
Both rear shock absorbers have failed. Right side failed at 5,200 miles and was replaced 5,418 miles. Left side failed at 18,164 and was replaced also at that time. Currently the vehicle has 21,200 miles and both right and left side shock absorbers have failed again. Dealer is aware and has not admitted the shocks are of poor quality, yet it is obvious. I am searching for an aftermarket brand but none is available at this time. I will have the dealer replace both soon again. My concern is when there are failures in suspense this can: reduced braking efficiency, tire wear, loss of handling and control, and increased wear on other suspension parts.
Bumping, creaking, popping noise from rear of vehicle, at low speeds (30mph and under) and when turning. Rear shocks replaced in September 2023 at 10,018 miles; rear shock mounts replaced in June 2025 and rear shock absorbers replaced in July 2025, at approximately 32,000 miles. Same bumping, creaking, popping noise from rear of vehicle again - less than 1 month and less than 1,500 miles since rear shock absorbers replaced.
