Incident: pressed brakes but car accelerated. Story: I reversed out of a parking spot, turning so I could go to the right in parking lot. Put the car in drive and proceeded driving veering right in the parking lot. I pressed brake within 5 seconds of that but the accelerated instead, so I released the brake, looked down to double check I wasn't losing my mind and confirmed, I was pushing the break when it accelerated, pressed it again but much lighter this time and it did accelerated again as I veered to the right where there were no cars parked. I parked, turned off the car and then restarted it. I was not able to recreate the incident but also, no idea why it happened and scary to think what would have happened if I was on the highway or busy road. There were no lights/alerts that showed up when it happened. I plant to take it to dealership to check. And I have read other reports of owners having the same issue with this car.
My "vehicle health" reports all systems good on the bluelink app-- however, when I open "diagnostics history", it shows 8 repeated reports under dtc: c183987 (safety - anti-lock braking system). There is also a reports for a dtc c186b87 (electrical- lane departure warning system), and a c188087 (null). So there are 10 total reports of this in my history between 11/7/2025 to 9/18/2026. The reports for the anti-lock breaks were reviewed by the dealership and advised by Hyundais tech line that they were just glitches in computer system. However, they have continued. And on top of that, I just filed a separate report about my car accelerating when I pressed the brake (thankfully it happened in a parking lot)-- no idea if its related but its all fishy. Thus I will be going back for another review by dealership "service" team. Initially the first few reports did have an abs light that showed up on my screen which is what prompted me to look into the app for issue only to see it said everything was fine, until I looked deeper at the historical reports. But lately there has been no abs light showing up on my dash but the reports are still coming in.
2026 Hyundai Palisade sel 8p awd. Brake pedal sinks to floor when depressed while vehicle is in motion, causing vehicle to glide before stopping. Defect first noticed June 1, 2026 and confirmed June 2, 2026 at approximately 530 miles during a 34-mile round trip with consistent repeated occurrence at both low and moderate speeds. Vehicle returned to dealership for diagnosis. Dealership declared unable to duplicate. No diagnostic trouble codes found. Hyundai engineering was consulted by dealership. This is a second serious defect on this vehicle — a full transmission assembly replacement was performed under warranty in may 2026 within 4 days of delivery and approximately 259 miles of personal use. Hyundai motor America lemon law re-evaluation currently in progress.
Stopped at the gas pump and filled up. When I went to leave all dash lights were lit up and car wouldn’t move. Brakes were locked. I tried restarting and restarting. Brakes would lock up when I tried to move, either direction. I finally gases it enough that it screeched the tires to move it from in front of the gas pump.
The contact owns a 2026 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the brakes independently activated. The vehicle failed to drive forward or reverse. The contact stated that after several attempts to release the brakes, the brakes released. The dealer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with abs module failure. The contact was informed that the abs module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal went to the floorboard and the vehicle stopped. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 8,100.
Since purchasing the vehicle on February 4, 2026 this has happened twice, where I press the brake pedal to try to stop the vehicle and the engine accelerates and it's hard to keep vehicle stopped. When this happened for the first time I was leaving my subdivision and try to stop at a stop sign and vehicle accelerated while I was trying to stop. It took me by surprise, so I pressed the park gear to stop the vehicle. Then it happened again yesterday 2/22/2026. I called the dealer today 2/23/2026 to report the issue, they won't have a loaner until 3/06/2026. I did informed them, that if this happened again before then, I was taking the vehicle directly to them, as I'm no taking the chance to have an accident while waiting for a loaner and have the vehicle checked.
Driving around 30mph pressing brakes to slow down and brakes felt softer than normal. Noticed when around 7 mph car continues to not come to full stop but continued to move. This happened 3 times during the same drive. Once on my street I attempted to slow down to turn into my driveway. Car reduced to 5mph but jersey and accelerated. Had to slam brakes to stop. Was not detected by dash cam which is programed to record driving events. Bought a sante fe car in sept 2026. Had same incident. Swapped it for 2026 Palisade calligraphy, had same incident. Swapped for this one. . Dealership says could not duplicate. Obvious it is not an isolated problem. What can be done?.
