I own a 2021 Hyundai Palisade and have experienced a complete transmission failure that I believe Hyundai had prior knowledge of and failed to address. Before my warranty expired, I contacted the dealership several times to report transmission symptoms I was experiencing. I was told that because no diagnostic code had been produced at that time, there was nothing they could do. Eventually, my check engine light came on with a p0741 code — torque converter clutch circuit performance. When I brought the vehicle in, the dealer flushed the transmission fluid, which came out dark and contaminated with metal particles. After running the vehicle, the fluid was still dark, indicating active internal damage already in progress. The dealership has now told me I need a full transmission replacement at my own expense. I am the second owner of this vehicle with approximately 105,000 miles. I have since learned that Hyundai issued technical service bulletin #20-at-005h-1 specifically addressing the p0741 code on the 2021 Palisade, instructing dealers to replace the solenoid and valve body harness. This repair procedure was never applied to my vehicle despite my early report of symptoms. I believe this is a known defect that Hyundai has failed to escalate to a recall, leaving consumers like me with thousands of dollars in repair costs for a problem the manufacturer was already aware of. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a recall is warranted for the 2021 Hyundai Palisade.

The vehicle suffered a structural "seam leak" on the pressurized oil filter housing. This was verified by an authorized Hyundai dealer (dealer xxx, invoice #xxx). The failure is a structural crack in the housing component itself, not a maintenance-related seal or filter failure. This defect causes pressurized engine oil to spray directly onto the hot engine block while the vehicle is in operation, creating a severe and immediate fire hazard. Additionally, the rapid loss of oil and oil pressure poses a risk of sudden engine seizure or stalling at highway speeds, which could lead to a crash. Despite being a known manufacturing defect in a critical engine component, the manufacturer has refused to address the safety implications or offer a remedy. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We had two incidences with in a week. 1. My wife was at a stop light getting ready to go through an intersection when the light turned green she pressed on the gas pedal and the vehicle would not go it just flashed a few codes and a warning came up about a possible condition that occurred. She had to place the vehicle in park shut it off start it up again and put it into drive mode in order to get going again all this while in traffic. We made an appointment with Hyundai of anchorage but they couldnt find a problem they updated the soft ware and gave the car back to us. 2. The second time it did this was about a week later. My wife went shopping and got into the car to leave, she started the car and put it into gear and it would not move when giving it gas it flashed some more codes at that point she called me. I restarted the vehicle got it moving and when I came to a stoplight with five vehicles ahead of me the light finally turned green vehicles started moving but when I went to move the car would not go and there was a vehicle behind me a ways back that was approaching rather fast. As my wife did before I had to shut the vehicle off restart it and put it in drive in order to go.

While driving at normal speed, my 2022 Hyundai Palisade suddenly lost power without warning. Multiple warning icons appeared on the dashboard at the same time. The vehicle immediately slowed down and became unsafe to operate. After pulling over, the vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. This created a dangerous situation on the roadway. I am reporting this because I wonder if other owners may have experienced similar sudden power-loss events with this model year. It was fortunate that I was on a secondary road and not on the highway when this happened because it could have resulted in fatalities.

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade has an excessive and dangerous oil consumption defect. The vehicle consumes approximately 3/4 of a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. At a standard 8,000-mile oil change interval, the engine loses more oil than it holds between services. At approximately 185,000 miles, my vehicle stalled on the interstate with my family inside the vehicle. Upon inspection, the engine was critically low on oil. I added 5 quarts of oil to restore proper level. Critically, at no point prior to the stall did the low oil pressure warning light illuminate. The vehicle's oil warning system completely failed to alert me that the engine was dangerously low on oil. This is a dual failure: the engine is consuming oil at an excessive and unsafe rate, and the warning system designed to protect the driver failed to activate when the engine was in a critical state. I have reported this issue to my dealership and filed a formal complaint with Hyundai motor America. Neither has resulted in a meaningful resolution. Hyundai's internal "acceptable" oil consumption threshold of 1 quart per 1,000 miles is significantly outside mainstream industry standards set by other major manufacturers and appears designed to deny warranty claims rather than protect consumers. This defect poses a direct and serious safety risk. A vehicle stalling on the interstate due to oil starvation, with no warning to the driver, is a life-threatening failure. I am requesting that NHTSA open a formal investigation into the 2020 Hyundai Palisade for excessive oil consumption and oil pressure warning system failure.

I have the video but I am unsure how to upload or share incident description: the vehicle is experiencing intermittent, complete engine stalls while in motion at highway speeds. The failure has occurred four times. Initial symptom: the issue first manifested as "stuttering" and erratic behavior from the advanced driver assistance systems (adas) which I thought it was. Escalation: the vehicle has since progressed to a total loss of power. During these incidents, I was forced to pull over on high-speed corridors (hwy 46 and hwy 5) to restart the vehicle. Recurring pattern: most recently, after a stall and restart, the vehicle stalled again within a few blocks. I have captured video evidence of the stall occurring immediately after the vehicle was "reset" and put back into motion. Safety concern: this is a life-threatening defect. The vehicle loses propulsion without warning in high-speed traffic. The manufacturer’s service department (Hyundai) has been unable to identify a diagnostic fault code, citing "no problem found," and has only attempted a software/values reset, which has failed to correct the physical stalling.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while attempting to come to a complete stop, the transmission unexpectedly upshifted to accelerate independently. While depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the result was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure had occurred on sever occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 816.

The vehicle has two open safety recalls. Recall 26v034000 – the vehicle does not meet federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 226 for ejection mitigation. There is currently no remedy available. Recall 25v607000 – seat belt buckle may not latch properly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. The vehicle also had a powertrain fault that triggered the check engine light and it has been at the dealership for more than 30 days for I am concerned about the safety of my famil.
On January 12, 2026, the vehicle shut off twice during the same trip while driving in traffic. All dashboard warning lights illuminated, the tachometer spiked, rpm readings did not correspond, the gear selector became unresponsive, and the vehicle lost propulsion while in motion. On February 15, 2026, the vehicle shut off again while driving under similar conditions. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership for diagnosis. The battery failed a load test and was replaced. According to the repair order narrative, after the battery replacement, the stall condition recurred during dealership testing. Multiple extended road tests and datalogging were later performed. The dealership has stated they are unable to re-replicate the condition and that no active diagnostic codes are present. The vehicle has experienced multiple loss-of-power events while in motion. An intermittent stall while driving presents a significant safety hazard, particularly in traffic conditions. The root cause has not been definitively identified.
I am reporting a recurring, life-threatening electronic failure in my 2023 Hyundai Palisade. On [xxx], while turning into an intersection, the vehicle's brakes spontaneously engaged, stalling the car in the path of oncoming traffic. During this event, multiple critical safety systems failed simultaneously, including the headlights and horn, leaving me unable to warn other drivers. A "violent" surge was required to clear the intersection, risking a high-speed collision. Similar spontaneous recurrences occurred on [xxx] and [xxx], and most recently on [xxx]. These incidents are characterized by "phantom braking," total loss of propulsion, and a complete lack of interior/exterior electronic response. Technical evidence: diagnostic scans revealed 16 distinct fault codes (including c161608, c181287, and u012687) involving the chassis control module, electronic control unit (ecu), and communication buses. Despite these logged codes, Hyundai and the dealership have repeatedly returned the vehicle to me, stating they "cannot replicate" the issue, thereby dismissing a documented electronic record of failure. Arbitration status: I entered into bbb auto line arbitration (case #[xxx]). Hyundai has contested the claim by attempting to manipulate the "start date" of the defect to February 2024 to avoid lemon law statutes, despite dealer records confirming the first occurrence in August 2023. As of January 13, 2026, the dealership is again attempting to force me to take delivery of the unrepaired vehicle. This vehicle is a "phantom" safety hazard. The manufacturer’s inability to replicate a logged electronic fault during a brief test drive does not mitigate the extreme risk of sudden braking and power loss at highway speeds. I am requesting a formal investigation into these specific fault codes and the electronic integrity of this model. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

In compliance with the safety recall issued for my vehicle regarding the defective seat belts, I brought my vehicle in to vision Hyundai, canandaigua, NY for the recall work to be completed. Upon the service department's investigation of the seat belt components, they discovered further issues with it, beyond what was initially identified under the recall. Service department advises that it will take minimum of 1 month to obtain parts and make repairs. Service department issued a compact SUV which is not capable of safely installing my child car seat, or carrying the number of passengers which my affected vehicle does, putting a strain on our family's routine needs. Additionally, the affected vehicle was brought into the shop to address a powertrain issue where the vehicle loses all power and will not accelerate over 20mph, posing a serious safety concern. Hyundai has not provided any update on this or how it will be handled.
I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle has repeatedly produced white smoke during cold start and has experienced loss of engine power while driving. Despite multiple repair visits (six times) to an authorized Hyundai dealership, the dealer repeatedly stated that the condition could not be reproduced and no repairs were performed. I provided video evidence of the white smoke and described the symptoms in writing at each visit. Shortly after the most recent service visit(12/22/25), within approximately five days, the vehicle displayed an “engine power limited” warning message and a malfunction indicator light (mil). When this occurred, the vehicle’s power was significantly reduced, making it difficult to maintain speed and creating a potentially dangerous condition, especially during highway driving or merging into traffic. This issue poses a serious safety risk because sudden loss of engine power can increase the risk of collision. The problem appears to be intermittent but recurring, and it has not been properly diagnosed or corrected by the dealership despite repeated opportunities. The vehicle has not been repaired for this condition, and the defect remains unresolved. The condition may be available for inspection upon request, and diagnostic data such as warning messages and onboard fault codes should be present in the vehicle’s system. The failure began with white smoke during cold start and later escalated to engine power limitation and warning lights.
Vehicle experienced engine failure previously and received a Hyundai-installed replacement engine in February 2025. Replacement engine is now setting dtc p000a00 – intake camshaft position slow response (bank 1). Hyundai dealership master technician confirmed excessive variance between commanded and actual cam timing, indicating a vvt / cam timing failure controlled by oil and actuators. Hyundai is refusing to cover diagnosis and repair under replacement engine warranty and is requiring customer-paid tear-down despite fault originating within the engine assembly. Concern is for internal engine timing failure that may lead to engine damage or loss of power. This appears consistent with known Hyundai engine timing and oil control issues.
The oil filter housing cracked and leaked engine oil at mileage 74992.
Check engine light came on and stayed on. When using heat for car it was not heating up well or to temp. Got in to be serviced 12/16/25-12/18/25. Replaced a plastic part in engine and said engine was not heating up like it should. Cost $814. Reset check engine light. On 1/2/26 reversed car out of driveway into street and car came to abrupt stop and would not shift into any other gears. Another vehicle was coming up the street and almost collided with us and I could not get my vehicle to move which was blocking the road. Warning message said “shifter system malfunction: service immediately. ” pushed power button to turn off vehicle. Turned back on and able to get into drive to park back in driveway. Definitely having electrical issues and multiple problems with car since October 2025 when weather became colder for winter.
2023 Hyundai Palisade VIN [xxx] vehicle rear shock absorbers failed. Steering and drivability adversely impacted. Many many many complaints online document these defective parts and Hyundai's failure to resolve problems and supply properly functioning parts. Hyundai customer service is useless and claims no information on replacement part availability or time. Now that Hyundai has their newest problem of killing babies in their defective third row seats, I would have thought Hyundai would resolve outstanding issues. Nhtsa needs to intervene now. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
After 4 days of parking in the garage due to my travel , when came back and tried to start the car it was completely dead. Couldn’t do anything so Hyundai road assistance cane and had to jumpstart the car . Since then dash cam is not working at all and also car is having wierd sound. Hybrid system is just giving me only 15gpm but the car should have around 29 -30 mpg. Car is very new bought in oct 28th 2025. And only gave 225 miles. I am worried if if the battery is working.
The vehicle experienced premature transmission failure, including torque converter clutch malfunction, hesitation, jerking at speeds between 30–35 mph and 50–60 mph, and drivability issues. Diagnostic indicators are consistent with widespread complaints from other Hyundai Palisade owners. This failure presents a potential safety concern due to unpredictable vehicle response, hesitation during acceleration, and reduced control during highway driving. Dealer / manufacturer response: Hyundai motor America requires an authorized dealer to submit a warranty or goodwill claim for review. The servicing dealer, reliable Hyundai (springfield, missouri), has refused to submit the claim, preventing evaluation and resolution. This issue appears to be a known defect affecting multiple vehicles of the same model year. I am submitting this complaint to assist NHTSA in identifying patterns that may warrant investigation or recall action.
My vehicle experienced a sudden and immediate loss of motive power due to a catastrophic internal engine failure, creating a severe road safety hazard. While driving and attempting to accelerate or merge, the vehicle exhibits extreme hesitation, severe misfiring on cylinder #2, and rough, unstable idling. This unexpected loss of drive power made the vehicle unpredictable and unsafe to operate under normal driving conditions, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The vehicle is currently at the Hyundai dealership (fox ann arbor Hyundai) for diagnosis. The dealer has confirmed and documented the following internal mechanical defects at only 86,000 miles: compression loss in cylinder #2. Cylinder wall scoring and pitting. Evidence of blow-by and heavy carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Misfire and rough idle. Oil consumption as a result of the cylinder failure. This failure is a premature mechanical defect, not normal wear. Failures of this nature (sudden loss of motive power due to internal engine defect) have been cited by NHTSA in other recalls and are known to increase the risk of a crash or fire. The manufacturer has acknowledged the defect by offering only 50% goodwill toward a repair, but this defect remains a critical, unresolved safety hazard that requires a full, safe engine replacement. The 2021hyundai Palisade at a four way light stop busy intersection. Upon giving has and making the left turn from cimmiron unto saratoga blvd the vehicle was making a clunking noise like if vehicle in 4wd but the vehicle is an awd and it loss like power in the middle of the intersection almost rear ended and hit by another vehicle because the light begun to change. Took the vehicle to Hyundai and found out online and at the dealer this is a common issue with awd Palisades. There is even a TSB bulletin for this issue, the 4wd coupling starts going bad and makes vehicle noises and lose power in drivetrain. This is very dangerous and action must be taken before lawsuits coming flying. For crying outloud I had my grand babies with me and almost got into a three-way car accident because the Palisade decided not to go in the middle of the intersection. Hyundai needs to fix all faulty awd couplings that make the tires turn properly. My friend has a 23 model and having same issues it is also an all-wheel drive Palisade. Do something before something bad happens Hyundai is aware and there is a forum on this issue but no recall this is insane.
Since about 90,000 miles I have noticed a shudder from my transmission. It has progressed and having transmission issues. I have had regular maintenance done on my car and have even replaced the transmission fluid twice and the shudder is continuing to happen. I have looked at forums and all the things and seems to be a common theme amongst their transmission style.
I own a 2021 Hyundai Palisade calligraphy with approximately 114,000 miles. The transmission had to be replaced at around 98,000 miles. Recently, before my next scheduled oil change (I had about 1,000 miles left), my vehicle suddenly began making a loud knocking noise and lost power. The dealer informed me that the engine may have blown. There were no warning lights, oil indicators, or overheating signs before this happened. The car has been regularly maintained and serviced with timely oil changes. This appears to be a premature engine failure possibly related to oil consumption or an internal defect, as many other Palisade owners have reported similar issues. Hyundai consumer affairs has been contacted, and a case number is being opened for review. I am filing this complaint to report a potential widespread engine problem and request investigation into 2021 Hyundai Palisade engine reliability and oil-related failures.
The radiator is leaking, and from researching online seems to be a major issue with this year of car.
See attached document for complaint.
I am the 3rd time owner of this Palisade. Car was bought after a transmission replacement at 27,000 miles. (second transmission). At around 70,000 miles, we started to have oil consumption problems/ignition coil problems. After a slew of tests and other recommend procedures that cost us money out of pocket, Hyundai recommended to get a new engine. We get the new engine. They call to tell us the new engine is done, and proceed to share the transmission is bad and it needs a new one (3rd transmission). They are asking us to pay for the transmission as well. We want a buy back as we think this is a lemon car. 3 transmissions and a new engine under 85000 miles is not good and definitely grounds for investigation. These repeated failures make it unsafe/unreliable for us to drive our 6 month old baby in, let alone my wife and my myself. . We request and investigation/buyback.
Our 2021 Palisade is burning 2-3 quarts of oil per 500 - 800 miles. Customer states believes vehicle is consuming oil had oil change performed on 7/30/25 on ro 675582 @ 83769 miles would like part 2 of oil consumption test performed verified customer concern. Check oil level on dipstick found that the oil level is below the low mark. Submit a photo through stui of dipstick. Oil change was done on 07/30/25.
I have 25 Palisade calligraphy and from the last two months I almost went 7-8 times to the dealership because of the abs issue. When going over rougher road, railroad tracks, and also uneven surfaces brake is not working at that time. It is an issue that only happens under very specific conditions like slow speeds (under 10 mph), uneven surface (gravel, railroad tracks, speed bumps, driveway entry). Acts like abs is activated but it the car isn't acknowledging that it is. I work in manhattan and that is very crowdy place and at that time my car brake is not working, I almost hit the crowd because my car is not stopping at the stop line, it is very serious issue, please consider it and take this feedback.
The vehicle was brought to the dealership at around 17,000 miles with concerns regarding a clunky sound and hesitation in acceleration. The issue is extremely noticeable while turning and accelerating. No warning lights, messages or audible chimes show up when the issue occurs. Due to the vehicle hesitation on acceleration and the clunky / bouncy feeling in the steering wheel, my wife and I think there is a safety concern (e. G. Being hit due to unresponsiveness of the vehicle). The problem was reproduced/confirmed by a dealer, and the rear coupling assembly was replaced. Fast forward 18,000 miles (vehicle now has ~35,000 miles) and the exact same issue is occurring again. I am schedule to take the vehicle back into the dealership for this concern, another concern with the abs system and general maintenance.
Abs kicks in with even the slightest bump. Had an incident a couple weeks ago where I went over a bump while leaving a store and the car almost did not stop before hitting oncoming traffic. Have had issues for 10 months with the car not accelerating properly or shifting properly. Have tried to drive in every mode (Smart, sport, comfort) and nothing makes it better. I have had the vehicle to the shop 3 times. First 2 times said no problem. The third time stated my rear seal is leaking and transmission is leaking as well as 4x4 coupler needs replaced. I feel unsafe to drive in this vehicle with me and my children.
Many Palisade owners and I have a same issue that the vehicle shaking when applying the brake the the car slipping jerking forward. That is really unsafe for us. Please review this case.
I purchased a new 2026 Palisade on 8/30/2025. The day after I purchased it I started noticing the car jumping/bucking/hesitating to get up to speed, also it jumps and jolts around different speeds. I brought the car back to the dealership 2 days later for them to look at it. After explaining the problem they drove the car by a tech and also the service manager, with the car being so new. After review of the car, the service person told us verbally that the service manager did feel some hesitation in the car but that the car was so new that it is most likely caused by tap tables (the car learning how a driver drives). After 30 days of the driving the car, it did not get better, only worse. I brought the car back to the dealership on 9/29 again to have them look at it. They first told me nothing was wrong and that the car just "rode rough" . The service person I was dealing with asked for us to drive in the car together so I could point out what I was feeling when I drove it. While he was driving I could feel the hesitation even in the passenger seat. I pointed it out everytime I felt it, to which he confirmed he felt as well. After the test drive, he allowed me to drive a similar model closest to mine. While I drove that vehicle, I felt that same exact feeling I was feeling in mine. He recommended that I file a formal complaint and that he would send all the information into the warranty department. He also stated during the drive that the new santa fe, when they were first released had a similar issue and that they finally release a software update to resolve the issue with the trans and that may also be the case with the new Palisade as well. My advice to anyone buying this car, during the test drive make sure you request to take this on the highway and get it in the range of 65-75mph and keep it idle at 70 for a bit and make sure you dont get stuck with the same problem! my previous vehicle had a transmission issue and this is exact same feeling in the Palisade.
Uses 1qt of oil or more per 1,000 miles.
The contact owned a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, he heard an abnormal popping and hissing noise. The contact stated that he started to smell a burning odor. The contact was losing forward momentum. No warning lights illuminated. When he applied the accelerator pedal, the vehicle continued to slow down. The contact pulled off the highway, stopped the vehicle, and turned off the engine. The contact stated that almost immediately, smoke was issuing from under the front end. The contact stated that the vehicle burst into flames. The police and fire department were called. The fire was extinguished using chemicals. The police and fire departments issued reports. The vehicle was towed away to an impound lot. The contact stated that he had the transmission replaced in 2024. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Vehicle stalled and suddenly went into park mode from drive mode and lights started flashing along with engine light. Not idling properly, or shifting properly, has to be towed to dealership. 2020 with only 72,000 miles.
I own a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle began jerking while driving, particularly during acceleration and shifting, prior to reaching 100,000 miles. Over time the issue worsened, and the vehicle started failing to accelerate properly when pressing the gas pedal. There have been significant hesitations before the vehicle would move forward. This creates a serious safety concern, especially when merging into traffic or turning at intersections. The condition appears to be related to the transmission. The symptoms began while the vehicle was still under the powertrain warranty period. I am concerned this may represent a broader transmission defect affecting other vehicles of the same model.
