2 Rear Suspension Coil Springs problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in for NHTSA campaign id number: 09v123000 (suspension), however the dealer only coated the frame and the contact stated that she was not notified that this was a safety recall. The contact indicated that after the recall repair the suspension was unstable and upon making a turn the steering wheel went in the other direction and the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel to turn the vehicle. The dealer was notified and indicated that the contact needed an alignment. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop who aligned the vehicle and replaced all four tires and the failure recurred. The contact indicated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn and that the suspension continued to be unstable. The contact notified the dealer again and they indicated that the underbody, front strut frame and coils springs rusted and needed to be repaired. The dealer suggested that the vehicle not be driven until it was repaired but did not confirm what repairs would be completed other than replacing the coil spring for NHTSA campaign id number: 14v435000 (suspension). The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer to remedy the second recall repair for the suspension. The first recall repair did not remedy the failure due to no parts being replaced and the components were coated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
