1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

My car has active recalls for the brake switch (prevents brake lights from working properly) and systems related to proper airbag deployment. In addition, there is a service recall (it doesn't show in your database, but it is Hyundai service campaign 936 (https://autoservice. Hyundaiusa. Com/campaign936/micrositetemplate/micrositetemplatevinvalidate/1224) related to the valve gasket literally dumping oil out to the point that it destroys the alternator - it destroyed my ac compressor, too! that's not the main point of this, but it's relevant in general. I have been attempting to schedule an appointment to get these issues resolved, but all local dealers tell me the recalls have "expired" and refuse to even look at the car. Some legitimately stop answering the phone when I call at this point, it just rings forever. The online tool to make an appointment from the official Hyundai site has you pick a time to bring the car in, but the dealers to not allot any slots to this so none are available to select. I contacted Hyundai corporate customer service to resolve this, and was told I'd need to "continue trying to work with the dealers. " it was no help at all. I am trying to fix the issues myself - my car is currently half-assembled in my garage, and I am technically proficient (I hope!), but it seems ridiculous to be denied service for active safety recalls - and keep in mind, I am only trying to do it myself because the dealers refuse to and I don't want to die in a fiery car crash. I shouldn't be forced to do this. Oh, in addition - Hyundai won't reimburse me for the repairs (I bought my own alternator/compressor once work was refused). . . Because they aren't being done at a dealership! it'd be hilarious if it wasn't so scummy. Thank you for any help you can offer. I am legitimately losing my mind at this point.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

Hyundai issued a recall recently related to the abs module, which can result in a fire. I called Hyundai and scheduled a service appointment in advance, and after waiting for an hour on the day of the appointment was told that they would need to order parts. They knew the problem and what needed to be replaced before I came for the appointment, this does not make sense and puts drivers in danger by extending time spent driving with this combustion hazard. It has now been two weeks (on Monday) since the Hyundai dealership ordered the parts and I still have not received a call back to schedule the repair. I called last week to check in and they said that the part still had not been received and that they would call me when it arrived. Given that this is a serious safety hazard that has the potential to cause serious injury or death, it seems totally unacceptable that Hyundai is taking this long and not providing a safe alternative vehicle while affected customers are waiting on the parts.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle began to accelerate independently without warning. Due to the unintended acceleration, the contact had to depress her brake pedal to the floor board as well as use her emergency hand brake in order to slow down the vehicle. Once the contact eased her foot of the brake pedal, the vehicle began to accelerate. Due to the force applied to her brakes, smoke began to emit from vehicle's exhaust pipe. The contact had to coast the vehicle until a parking lot until the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact then turned off the vehicle and called titus-will Hyundai 2255 carriage loop sw, olympia, wa 98502 where they informed her to have the vehicle towed to there dealer. Once the vehicle was towed to the dealer, she received a call from the dealer stated that they were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,700. Invalid VIN.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

Car has recall. Dealer told me to bring it in they would fix it. Dealer then tells me corporate Hyundai will not allow them to do the work even though dealer has the part. An electrical short within the abs module may cause an engine compartment fire, even when the car is turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2019

The contact's daughter owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that their daughter had informed them that the vehicle would stall when being driven at various speeds and when idle. The contact stated that their daughter had experienced many tire failures with the vehicle despite having the vehicle aligned. The vehicle's check engine warning light. The vehicle had been taken to a certified mechanic who had aligned the tires, replaced the tires. The contact was unsure if any other repairs had been done for the vehicle. The failures had persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

I had just gotten on the interstate and the car started and continued accelerating on its own. I had the wipers going; cruise was not turned on or set, there was nothing obstructing brake or accelerator petals. I turned the lights to auto then down to running lights then to the on position. Just at that moment when I put the lights in the on position is when it took over the accelerator. I tried stepping on the break and it did nothing as the vehicle continued to accelerate. I made it to the off ramp to get off the interstate immediately. I tried turning cruise on then off and down shifting. Then I put it into neutral and it stopped accelerating but I still could not brake. I started to push on the emergency brake and we started to slow down until we coasted into a gas station and shut the car off. I called roadside assistance and was towed to a garage. I called Hyundai service and they told me if nothing is found or it can't be fixed that I should contact consumer affairs. I did some research and found over 50 complaints for this same thing. Apparently this has to do with the fact that the throttle control is driven by the computer/electric. Because of this something like a power surge happens that causes the acceleration and the brakes to not work. If this would have happened to me with more traffic, I would have crashed. It appears to be fine now but I understand it is intermittent and can't be duplicated; therefore, Hyundai will not do anything about it. The fact of the matter is they don't know what to do. But it doesn't change the fact that this causes accidents and is a safety issue. I am now scared to drive my own vehicle. Complaints/investigations/recalls were found NHTSA. Gov, forum. Edmonds. Com understanding issue found suddenacceleration. Com.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

I have a problem with the esc unit. I can be driving down the road and the right hand front break will all of a sudden at radium grab and jerk the car to the right. This problem has occurred at speeds ranging from 35 to 70 mph. I have taken the car to the Hyundai dealership 3 or 4 time to get the problem fixed and have spent $1,300. 00 and they still haven't fixed the problem. I am being told we don't find anything wrong. We never know when it is going to happen and I can only hope that it doesn't happen when in a situation that it causes someone to get hurt or killed. I have asked that either disconnect the esc system or reverse it so that it is not on until you need it and the Hyundai service people say that can't be done. I do not believe that is correct but they are the Smart people on the car. I will tell you this if this problem causes an accident that someone gets hurt I will be seeking an attorney and notifying the insurance of the problem and the fact that Hyundai has not fixed the problem. Please help me with this problem. Thanks.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

Crankshaft harmonic balancer broke apart which caused loss of control: ( of the steering, brakes, lighting, etc. ) the vehicle was in motion at a very low speed while turning into a driveway! fortunately I was able to immediately stop and shut off the engine which prevented excessive damage from shrapnel. If this occurred at the interstate speeds, it could have proved catastrophic for myself, passengers and other highway travelers. My checking online disclosed there are many occurrences of this nature! unfortunately I did not take photos.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2017

Sometimes when I make a left or ight turn, the anti lock brakes cause the vehicle to slow down. This isn't the only issue but the car turns off and the steering locks. Im not able to turn or stop. This happens when im at a very slow speed while turning. It happened numerous times. I went online and it was many compliants and reviews on the 2003 to 2006 models. Im really afraid this can cause a collision. Im not the only person who had issues with my vehicle. This happened when I got off the interstate and made a turn on a street while steering. Someone need to investigate this issue. I had other recalls on my vehicle in the past.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2016

While driving through an intersection at approximately 40 mph my 2007 Santa Fe started to decelerate even as I pushed the gas pedal realizing something was wrong started looking for a place to pull over then all my gauges went crazy fuel gauge showed empty rpm gauge was showing 3000 rpm(engine was off) all dash lights came on and the engine would not start. Oil leaking from front valve cover had shorted out the alternator there for killing my battery. Repair was not cheap.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

I own a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The air bag light, engine check light, the electric stability control (esc) light , abs and the traction control light illuminated steadily on the dash, when the vehicle is turned on. The gas gauge sometimes works even when the tank was full. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who stated that the failures were not recall related. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but restated the position of the dealer, offering no help. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

My 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe suddenly accelerated when I attempted to apply the brakes to slow down so I could get into a left hand turning lane. As soon as I touched the brakes, the car revved up and accelerated to a very high speed on its own. I¿m not sure how fast I was going, but fast enough to throw me back against the car seat as I ran through a red light unable to stop. I tried the brakes again but they didn't work. . Shifting the car into neutral or any other gear did nothing to slow or stop the car either. I finally reached down and turned the key off, at which time I lost my power steering. I steered into an open field, hit a fence, and continued quite a ways the car was stopped by an incline to a ravine.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the electronic function panel on the driver side failed to work and all of the doors randomly failed to lock on the inside and outside. The vehicle was to be taken to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v122000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The brake pedal was applied several times and traveled to the floorboard. The contact had to pump the brake pedal each time the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2015

I was traveling to a friend's house on wyda way in sacramento county. I was getting ready to stop at a stop sign and had my foot on the brake. Suddenly, I felt my car being pushed from behind, and then I heard a loud acceleration noise. Right after that moment, my car accelerated on its own and would not stop. I had my foot on the brake the entire time and also tried moving the gear shift lever. It would not move and the car kept accelerating. I thought I was going to die. The next thing that occurred was a horrible collision, resulting in my car hitting another car which hit another car. I sustained serious injuries as well as two fatalities and other injuries in the two cars that were hit. I was taken to uc davis hospital in sacramento where I stayed in the icu for two days and then for an additional two days in the hospital. I was driving a runaway car with no way to stop it.

15 Service Brakes problem

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

At 3:30 p. M. I was in my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe on my driveway, waiting for the garage door to go up. My foot was on the brake. Without warning, the car accelerated. (the 20 mph shown above is approximate. ) the car ran into the garage door and knocked it off its tracks. It crashed into built-in wooden cabinets along the side of the garage and came to rest against a wooden platform at the front of the garage. My foot did not leave the brake petal during this time. The garage door and wooden cabinets were destroyed. The car was declared to be unrepairable. I was considerably shaken up but luckily not injured physically.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

I went to the dealer to have recall issues corrected and another customer brought his same year vehicle with the same issues in for his recalls. I heard him tell the service guy the exact same issues I was having. They pulled my car around and when I got in the car the esc light was still on so I went back in to ask about it and he pulls it up my info and tells me the production date did not qualify and that it's the brake switch. He then shows me the production date for the other customer and uses it as an example as to how it's based on when the car was built. He explains why it happens and the danger in it so I stop him and ask him if it's just a coincidence that there's a recall for this issue. Any way you look at it the other customer had the same make and model and year as mine with the same brake switch recall problem yet it didn't affect my car and he looked at me and said the dealership wouldn't get paid for the work cause it wouldn't be reimbursed by Hyundai and if I call Hyundai and was real nice that they may allow it. I called and very nicely explained that my car was having the issues directly related to the brake switch and that a Hyundai dealership had inspected it and printed me copies stating that it was the issue for the recall and said there was nothing they could do. Obviously they are not taking responsibility to account for every single vehicle affected by there mistakes and further more after explaining to me the danger with it they don't care enough about my safety and have no problem sending me back on the street with the faulty vehicle the sold me. If there's anything you can do to look into it and help out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

At a slow speed while turning (either direction, as incident has occurred now 3 times in 10 weeks) vehicle loses all power to steer and brake. Feels like the car has died, however the battery and check engine light are on. When it resolved, the engine was still running, brakes and steering restored. First two times the power failure was momentarily. Third time the vehicle lost power for 3-4 minutes and stranded me while turning onto major road from my neighborhood with oncoming traffic. Had car towed to local Hyundai dealer who kept insisting they would need to see the vehicle fail in order to know how to repair it. I said not good enough, they need to find another method to trouble shoot and refused to pick up vehicle. Now the dealer is blaming the power loss on worn front tires and the esc system cutting power to the engine, steering and brakes due to it sensing slippage. I'm not buying this explanation from the dealer, especially because of (1) the slow speed (no slipping tires in these three instances), and (2) tires have slipped on quick acceleration before without esc system cutting power to brakes & steering, and (3) if this were the case, I would think esc would be potentially dangerous and not designed to save lives! will file complaint with Hyundai America but I don't have much faith that they will be of help.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

The breaks light was functioning (not on) when the break pedal is depressed. The esc off light start to stay on.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

Esc off light on dash then check engine. Code is p0504 for brake switch. This condition is covered under other Hyundai campaigns and recalls but not for our VIN / build date. Please consider working with Hyundai to provide resolution to this issue. We are also being told there is a two week wait to have this repair performed. Vehicle safety during this delay is a concern should the esc system malfunction while driving. Thank you.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

Brakes did not engage on initial start on mornings where temperature was below 50 degrees f. Brake pedal was hard, did not move toward the floor more than 1/2", and did not engage brakes with firm steady pressure. After pumping brake pedal several times, pressure was felt in the pedal, which slowly moved toward the floor, and brakes engaged. Even when the brake pedal was being depressed hard and steady, the car did not slow, and abs did not engage. Dealership was unable to find problem after keeping the car for 4 days. Tire store identified source as faulty brake booster, replaced part, and the car has been stopping as expected since repair. I have retained the faulty booster.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2011

While waiting to cross a railroad crossing the two cars ahead of me started moving. The first car suddenly stopped causing the 2nd car to hit it. I slammed on my brakes but my car surged ahead into the car in front of me causing much damage of that car and considerable damage, (undrivable) to my car. Police were called and a report take,. I srepped on my brakes hard yet I surged forward very fast. About three months earlier I experienced the same problem comming out of a store parking lot onto a busy road. I applied my brake only to have the car keep going forward almost entering on coming traffic. I could only assume when I applied the brake my food hit the accelerator on the down push. I feel the same thing happened during the Aug. 4, 2011 accident. I wonder if there have been other incidents like this, I wear a size 11 eee shoe which is petty wide, the only reason I could see for hitting both the brake and accelerator.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

This complaint refers to the srs airbag system in the Santa Fe. While the airbag system is intact I have been told by a certified Hyundai repair center that the clock spring and the junction box have failed. Given the premature nature of this failure I believe that this system is flawed and represents a widespread hazard to the american public. In addition, all four brake rotors and the sway bar needed to be replaced with less than 70,000 miles due to excessive wear which rendered them unsafe (according to the aforementioned center).

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2010

Took car in for issue unrelated to brakes during courtesy inspection found rear brakes need repair. Scores per wheel where are as follows lf 10 rf 10 lr2 rr 8. The variance seems to indicate an issue and a brief internet search found numerous similar complaints.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2010

R. R. Brakes frozen by rust & corrosion at 26,00 miles.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2009

Rear brakes seized up due to rust build up on rotors. This caused the rotors to get very hot. We feel that this was due to faulty metal used for the rotors> Hyundai said it was a environmental issue. We feel it is a safety issue. Hyundai reports a lot of problems with this issue.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

Rotors needed to be replaced at cost of $375 at only 18,500 miles. . Rotors should not need replacing at such a low mileage. Took it to dealer who stated that it was due to rust from salt on roads. Have owned numerous vehicles prior and driven on same roads and never needed rotor replacement so early. Internet is filled with Hyundai owners with similar complaints. Hyundai uses inferior parts and is aware of these numerous complaints but does nothing to fix the problem. Something must be done to protect the public from Hyundai's defective products or people will continue paying for expensive brake work at extremely low mileages. Will never buy a Hyundai again!!.
