The vehicle was taken to carey motors (3204 fruitvale blvd, yakima, wa 98902), but the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they needed to run tests at the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2017

On a June 3, 2017, we were exiting the highway. During the turn in traffic, the car slowly lost all power. All of the lights lit up and the speedometer, gas gauge and rpm indicators were moving back and forth. We were able to glide to the light in traffic and make it to a parking lot safely. I am so glad we did not have an accident!! my husband shifted the gear to park and the car restarted with no problems. We will be taking it to a Hyundai dealer because this could have been potentially life threatening. Is there a recall put there? this was our first experience like this with the car.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

It started off as what seemed like just the bulbs burning out in any which light. Then my passenger window stopped working then started working. The lights still were having issues. It took a bit for me to realize that there is a short or something in the car. The lights go out then come back on then switch which one is out. The worst time was when it went in for an oil change and came back out with no lights working. I contacted the company to make sure there was no foul play and they checked their camera. I've had the lights looked at multiple times by multiple different companies. It never fixes the problem permanently. A few weeks ago the back right passenger lock stopped working then the next week the front passenger window again. Then yesterday the lock started to work and today it doesn't again. And speedometer is off. Hard to say by how much. Depends on which speed reader I go by.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

For the last three years I have had issues with my fuel gauge not working. I have taken it in and was told it would cost a good amount of money to fix. I asked if this is a common problem with massey Hyundai and they told me yes this is a current issue, and could not be recalled because it was not dangerous. So on 3. 9. 17 as a result of not fixing this issue with my vehicle because of the price. My car has stalled out once while on the interstate and almost lost control of my car and crashed. And a second time while turning into work road and stalling out again mid turn and almost turning into a ditch. I was told that the fuel sensor needed to be replaced and they had to do both because they weren't sure which one it is. If not fixed could result in an accident, well if this is a problem for most Hyundai vehicles this should be fixed by the company who makes it not the people who buy faulty products.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

I was driving down a major highway when my esc off light and check engine light came on. My car slowed down to 20 mph and would not allow me to speed up at all almost causing me to be smashed into several times!! I shut my car off and re started it and I was able to get off the highway to someplace safe. I am having my mechanic look at it now but after looking on forums, I see it is probably the tps and I see that many other people have had this happen! why is this not recalled?!?! this is beyond a safety issue!.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

Park n fly mississauga canada. Vehicle in parked position. Vehicle reversed from position and driven for 50-75 feet. Driver made a left turn and within two seconds the vehicle started accelerating on its own. Driver’s head and hands bounced off the steering for a brief moment and then returned. Engine could be heard revving continuously in an increasing manner. Nothing on the gas pedal nor was it manually depressed. The pedal felt stuck with no recoil like what is usually felt when ones foot is taken off the accelerator. Driver attempted to depress brakes to maximum capacity but the system would not override the acceleration and the motion the car was travelling. Car continued to pickup speed to about 70 km/hr. Attempted to slightly turn into a side lane. Cars were parked in facing each other position. Driver clipped the first vehicle, then deflected and ran into three other vehicles before becoming wedged. Passenger front tire continue to spin and burnt thread. Driver front tire intact.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

After starting my vehicle and proceeded to work my Santa Fe esc light came on and the car went into a "limp mode". It slowed down to 10 mph and wouldn't let me accelerate. I pulled over and I could feel the engine sputtering. I turned off the engine and waited a minute. Turned the engine back on and proceeded to work without incident. Now no matter when I drive whether its a cold start or after 30 minutes of driving the vehicle goes into limp mode. While driving at a slow speed on back roads is not a serious issue I feel that when I am on the highway traveling at 65mph and it happens is a major safety issue. This has happened on numerous occasions and I no longer feel safe in my vehicle. I have done some research on this problem and I am not the only one. This is a serious issues that I feel needs to be addressed by Hyundai immediately before someone gets injured or killed.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2014

As I was driving the clutch pedal suddenly dropped to the floor from underneath my foot. Then the car started to accelerate, even though my foot was on the brake and over the clutch. I was luckily able to get it back under control without hitting anyone, and get it pulled over, but it wasn't easy. Having a friend and 2 babies in the car with me, it was fairly terrifying. We got it pulled over and stopped, and finally got the clutch moving up to put the car in neutral and turn it on and off again, but we never did get it back into gear so we had a tow truck come clear it from the road. Never would have expected anything like that, let alone on a car with only 68000 miles.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2014

We bought the car from on a Sunday afternoon it was my gift for mother's day, the same day we drove the car of the lot the car stall for the first time and we call the dealership to ask about the problem. The dealership stated to bring the car in. After a few hours I received a call to come pick up the car. My husband was very surprise to know the car had stall and asked if there was something wrong with the car and we were told all it needed was a battery change. My husband proceeded to ask for management but the sales associate told us that it was normal for a car to stall once in a while??? my husband was frustrated with everyone, the sales associate informed us that the car had 3 previous owners only because they had purchased the same car newer. We did notice damage on the back bumper of the car but it had been painted over and also my husband notice the front had also been painted over. Again we argued with sales but got no where!!! something should be done about this! a dearler-sales-associate should not put my family at risk just to make a dollar! there is something very wrong about that. Sincerely yours betsy.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

Hello, I am the original owner of a 2007 Santa Fe. I was driving last week to pick up my 6 year old daughter when all of a sudden in the middle of an intersection I had no power when I pressed on the gas pedal. I coasted into the parking lot, noticed the check engine light on, shut off the car and immediately grabbed my manual to see what happened. When returning to the car after getting my daughter from camp, the car started and we made it home. I am fortunate that my work, camp, and our home are very close. The next morning I called my Hyundai dealer and discussed what they thought may have happened. They and I agreed it was better safe than sorry to bring it in to be checked. I just returned from the appointment and was told it was the "throttle position sensor", which is a very important part considering you can just lose power in the middle of an intersection or a highway. I only have 49,000 miles on my car, which is great for a 2007. I would expect these important parts to hold up much longer than that. I would appreciate you investigating this very important matter. I and many other families have very precious cargo we carry in our cars. . . Our kids. Thank you!.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

Engine light and esc light came on and would not accelerate appropriate.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

I bought this vehicle new. It has only 32000 miles. The fuel sensors do not work giving me inaccurate readings on the fuel gauge. In addition, in an incident that may or may not be related, while driving my six year old granddaughter, I experienced an extreme slowdown. This happened a total of three times on different days. This is an extremely dangerous event, especially if you are on an highway with high speed traffic. The ironic thing is that a friend bought the same kind of vehicle at the same time and she has had the same two problems.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while attempting a turn. The brakes also failed and the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop but was neither repaired nor diagnosed to determine the cause of the braking or acceleration failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000. Updated 01/14/lj.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2013

When I would begin acceleration the vehicle would hesitate then take off rapidly then I would loose power to a speed of @ 15 miles per hour and the esc off switch would appear on the dashboard followed by the check engine light. I safely pulled over and turned the vehicle off for about 30 seconds. Once I turned the vehicle back on, the dashboard lights would go out and I would repeat this cycle 8-9 times before being able to drive normally. On several occasions after driving normally for about 10 miles the esc off light would reappear on the dashboard and I would loose power while driving sometimes on a highway which was extremely dangerous to go from 60 mph to coasting at @ 15 mph. Diagnosis from the car dealer is the throttle position censor and throttle body part. In my opinion this is a serious malfunction and certainly dangerous combination and should be labeled as a recall. Hyundai should value the safety and expectations of their car buyers. When we as consumers purchase a vehicle we expect an excellent quality product. I researched this vehicle before purchasing and was led to buy it because of the many solid qualities I found. As a consumer, I am disappointed in this malfunction and equally disappointed in Hyundai for not stepping up to the plate to correct this major safety, quality and important issue. Furthermore, I was in the market to upgrade my sante fe, however now I will be looking into another vehicle to purchase.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

I was going to park in my parking spot and the car just accelerated and jumped a granite curb and struck a 4 in pole in the ground. The car kept hitting the pole almost driving up it. The car wouldn't stop even after I pressed on the brake, finally I couldn't stop it until I placed both feet on the brake pedal and pressed as hard as I could. It was frightening, when I called the garage they wanted me to drive it up to the shop, I couldn't I was afraid it would accelerate. I explained what happened to the dealership collision guy and he said he had never hear of such a thing. I told him I had looked on the website and found quite a few reports. They said they would look at the vehicle. Right.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2012

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2011

At approximately 5:45 last night, while changing lanes and accelerating from 35 to 40 mph, my Santa Fe suddenly floored its own accelerator pedal and would not release. Tried to 'fight it' with the brake pedal but nothing would release the accelerator, including pumping it slightly. The way we got the car to stop was by putting on the parking brake, pushing the brake pedal to the floor and trying to downshift the car in drive (because it would not let us put the car into neutral). When it got slow enough (15 mph or so), we cut the engine and the car screeched to a halt, burning rubber smelling surrounding us. Only then could we put the car into 'park'. Once we restarted the car it did not do the acceleration again. Our dealer is pretending this is not an issue, though a very quick google search shows that this very much is a known issue that they are ignoring. It is my belief that they are waiting for deaths to happen before acting on this issue and fixing it. This is a major safety issue that needs addressing immediately.
