6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2022

Whenever I hit a bump on the side of the road, the truck jerks really badly and if im not grasping the steering wheel with all my strength, it will jerk me off the highway from the bump making the entire car go off the road. Also, each bump I hit, I hear a very very loud metal on metal knocking sound from the right passenger side of the tire area. Not sure if it is a strut assembly or engine mount that wasn't correctly bolted down during manufacturing. Also, when I press the gas pedal, it sounds as if theres some type of cable thats being stripped or something. And whenever I am holding the steering wheel straight and firmly, the truck automatically has a mind of its on at times and will jerk the car to the right or to the left while im holding the wheel still. All mechanics have said that they don't see anything wrong with it but there's obviously something wrong with it and I am scared to drive it. It has got to be a manufacturers defect on those components of the vehicle. Please remedy this or replace my vehicle with one of the same or lesser valued cars . This truck is going to end up killing me or someone else or both . . . Thanks.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that there was a winding noise coming from the front end of the vehicle underneath the hood. While driving it will change gears very rough like some hit me . I know Hyundai knows of this problem and doesn't expand the recall . I checked my VIN # and no recall on the transmission just a hand full .

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

We purchased the vehicle 7 months ago with just over 62k miles. The vehicle will not go faster than 30 on the road. Dealership did a diagnostic and told us we need to replace the transmission and cd axle. After research there was a recall on this model's transmission. Ours was built 3 months after the recall but is doing the same thing. Safety issue and a quality Hyundai should stand behind and repair. We have the diagnostic report from the dealership.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2019

Mostly shifting into first gear or backing up , you get a very hard bang , as if you hit something. City street mostly turning.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

When traveling at different speeds and upon acceleration there's loss of power for a split second, and then it's bumping real hard. It can be described as a bumping noise, clunking noise or thumping noise. More likely to happen between 50-70 mph. Also, the passenger back door lock has been working off and on. It finally has stopped opening the door entirely. I've taken it to the dealer and they have yet to diagnose an issue after two inspections. As of 7/21/20 the vehicle is still having these issues.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

Since the day I purchased this car, the transmission bangs hard when shifting gears occasionally. I have had it into the shop 3 or 4 times but they keep telling me they tested it and it's fine. Now I'm almost out of my warranty and I'm afraid they transmission is going to go. I read that I'm not the only one complaining about this. What is being done about this?.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

I have a 2010 Hyundai sante fe util. I believe I am having an issue with my "all wheel drive coupler". My wife uses this vehicle. Currently we are experiencing loud bangs that feel like we are being hit from behind while the car is moving. It is in the back of the vehicle. When I investigated this online I see many other people with the same issue. I am wondering why this is not considered a recall. I feel my wife and child are in danger while riding in this vehicle. Please investigate and protect the public by calling for a recall with this issue.

18 Power Train problem

The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

My 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe limited awd 3. 5l, with approx. 60,000 miles, was making noise in the front end when I went over bumps or rough terrain. A local dealer told me it was most likely the end links going from the struts to the stabilizing bar. Two shocks were leaking so I had the struts (front) and shocks (rear) replaced along with the end links. On a test drive it was still making a clunking noise so I research the Hyundai forums for possible causes. There were four possible causes, one which had been corrected, the end links, the lower control rod, the connection mounts between the frame and the body, and the front and rear engine mounts. Upon inspecting the engine mounts I found the front engine mounts bolt, a 12mm x 5 inch bolt, missing. Apparently when the car was engineered the bolt wasn't secured with a locking nut or cotter pin so when the nut loosened and vibrated off the bolt, the bolt also vibrated out of the mount. I actually remember when this occurred, at around 50,000 miles. I remember a loud bang under the car and in the rear view mirror I saw a bolt tumbling down the highway. I thought I had run over it with a wheel. I took the car into the Hyundai dealer at 56,652 miles for an oil change and "12-point inspection" and "multi-point inspection" and the mechanic didn't discover the missing front engine mount bolt. (I found it myself when I took the car to a local car shop for the strut and shock replacement. ) I then went to the Hyundai dealer and told them what I discovered. The part number for the bolt is 21920-2b000, and the part number for the nut is 13396-12007k. There was no description as to the size of the bolt, the thread of the bolt and nut, nor whether the nut was a locking nut. I had the local mechanic make the repair with a 12mm x 5" galvanized bolt with washers, lock washer and a 12mm nylon locking nut. I consider this a safety issue.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. The vehicle was parked and the key was removed from the ignition with the emergency brake engaged. The contact was standing with the driver's side door open and heard a thump sound. The vehicle started to roll backwards out of a parking space. The contact was struck by the door while attempting to re-enter the vehicle, but was unable to as she was dragged by the vehicle. The vehicle was able to stop once it crossed a main road and collided with a curb. The contact sustained injuries to her entire body that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was able to be driven back to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not inspected by an independent mechanic or dealer to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2017

When accelerating lightly after a full stop (at a stoplight ex. ) , the car acts as if the gas pedal has been fully depressed or "punched" hard. This causes the tires to spin out or burn rubber.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. When the vehicle was shifted from park to drive, there was a hesitation and the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics to be diagnosed. The mechanics were unable to duplicate the failure or produce a fault code for the failure. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v261000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,999.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2016

Only 80000 orig miles . Have to finance & pay for a new transmission. Put it in drive it bangs now starting to do it when putting it in reverse . Cost 3000. 00 to fix dealership said there is no recall on it . I know if others are experiencing this same problem . Heard now they are offering 2000 . 00 to owners now because of a stalling problem something with the alternator being overheated lose everything even if your driving on the interstate at 65-70 mph . Really !!! . Feel like we are driving a death trap very frustrating to spend so much on a used vehicle that we thought we could trust . Wish someone would help to get this resolved .

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2015

Drive axle broke, causing loss of power to front wheels. I had come to a stop at a rural highway junction, and the vehicle would not move. The vehicle will roll away in park if emergency brake is not applied.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

Purchased 2010 Santa Fe, 52,200 miles for wife. After a couple of days, she said car was rough on occasion on way to work. I drove car to find out what she meant. Turning left out of driveway car jumped while shifting, good no car was coming from other direction. I noted that during first 5 miles or so when first run from cold start, shifting between 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears that there were occasional rough shifts. There seems to be hesitation and then abrubt shift. This happens when up and downshifting between gears. On a few occaions, it is extremely hard and feels like car has been rear ended. We brought the car to Hyundai and service department confirmed the problem. They charged us almost $150 for 2 software updates. Then after paying for this service, Hyundai told us that it did not fix the problem. It would cost us another aproximately $2,800 since the transmission would have to be replaced. Just a few months out of 5/60 warranty, inside 100,000 mile 7 year, but first owner only, warranty. I cannot imagine the nerve to charge someone for a software update on a known transmission problem and say sorry you have to pay us more to realy fix our design problem. Unfortunately I did not join a Hyundai forum that this common problem is talked about till after the purchase. And to think Hyundai advertises their great and worthless warranty.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Yesterday while decelerating at about 30 mph and coming to a stop sign, the car completely shut off. The check engine light illuminated. The car was restarted and continued to operate normally. The car check engine light did not illuminate again. I took to my dealer today (next am) due to my concern. I contacted Hyundai and asked to extend my warranty and mentioned my car had similar problem description mentioned in the online 929 Hyundai campaign. The dealer said no code history or code is showing and nothing can be done but to wait and see if problem reappears. I am concerned that this car if again completely shuts off while in operation could become more of a fatal result. Would like Hyundai to extend the online 929 campaign to my vehicle which is same year and model or some other way to check this problem thanks.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2014

My transmission blew up,no warning no indication when I called the dealer and gave them my VIN number they said there was no recall on my truck on the trans the only recall is on the reverse light, so where do I go from hear.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

Since purchased new in 2011, vehicle has stalled, losing power without warning in 6 separate incidents. Road surfaces were level and speeds ranged from 0-50 mph. During each malfunction, speed decreased to 0 mph or did not accelerate if already at 0 mph. Loss of speed is accompanied by presence of engine, battery, and oil indicator lights. I am able to shift from drive to park mode, completely turn off engine, and restart ignition. Vehicle appears to operate normally after each incident until next one occurs. All but two incidents occurred intermittently months apart on metropolitan interstate highways with heavy traffic conditions. Two most recent incidents occurred on same day within minutes of each other. Every time vehicle was taken to authorized dealer for evaluation, typically within hour of incident, technicians have been unable to duplicate problem or diagnose malfunction. Consequently, vehicle has not been repaired. According to 4 authorized dealers and Hyundai consumer affairs, trouble code is necessary to repair malfunction. Two authorized dealers have evaluated vehicle without diagnosing malfunction. Neither has been able to duplicate problem or find trouble code, despite maintaining possession of vehicle for days. Based on my history of complaints about same safety concern, however, techline advised authorized dealer to replace electric throttle control motor: procedure done in October 2013, yet stalling/loss of power occurred again--twice--in April 2014. Sporadically recurring malfunction remains unresolved. I have two separate cases filed with Hyundai consumer affairs. Vehicle is under warranty, up-to-date on maintenance, and has accumulated relatively low mileage to date at approximately 37,000 miles. **4/16/2014**stalled/lost power twice, 2-3 minutes between incidents. Towed to authorized dealer; currently awaiting instructions from techline.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

When operating the vehicle during colder temperatures after start up the transmission "sticks" in a low gear and ultimately releases and thrusts forward with a loud bang. This happens constantly and I have brought it to the dealer who has stated there is no problem. This is a hazard and may cause potential loss of control.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Event has occurred on 2 occasions. First event: while backing up in a parking lot, with no foot on the brake, and very slight force on gas pedal, the car surged much more than typical with such a light contact with the gas pedal. The car accelerated backward suddenly, until the brake was applied shortly thereafter. Second event: while pulling into a parking spot at very low speed. The same event occurred, but this time while in forward drive. With no foot on the brake, and very slight force on gas pedal, the car surged much more than typical with such a light contact with the gas pedal. The car accelerated forward suddenly, until the brake was applied shortly thereafter.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2012

In Nov 2012 after purchasing the vehicle used with 38,000 miles, we notice the transmission was not shifting properly. Took the vehicle to shortline Hyundai in aurora, CO. To have them inspect the vehicle and test drive. They were unable to find any issues with the vehicle during their inspection, no codes. We still noticed the issue for the next few years. Fast forward to Nov. 2014 - we decided to try another dealership in centennial, CO. Arapahoe Hyundai. The vehicle had 52,000 at this point. They confirmed the transmission had a harsh engagement in higher gears, still no codes. They stated the fluid was low and topped off the fluid. Through the following years the issue was still present. Feb 2018 the extended warranty expires and the issue at this point is very noticeable. 5th gear would hesitate up sifting to 6th gear, along with a delayed reaction on a downshift from 5th to 4th. Once the downshift engaged there was a hard band into 4th. June 2018, 79,850 miles - feeling brushed off by the local Hyundai dealers, we decided to take the vehicle to a local independent repair shop. The transmission fluid was in need of change, so we changed the fluid. The fluid change eased the harsh shifting slightly. As of today Feb. 2020, 91,150 miles - the transmission need to be replaced at our expense. The vehicle drive fine until it hits 5th gear. The downshift is now very hesitant with an extreme bang once it engages 4th. There has been an known issue with the transmission, which is a safety concern. Hyundai has known about this issue but refused to do anything about it, other than putting a band-aid on the issue.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

On Saturday, Jan. 15th, I was driving my 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe v6 (4 1/2 months old, < 2000 miles) when I turned a corner onto a busy street, and the car lost all power as if someone had turned of the ignition. Luckily we were not in an accident when we lost power steering and engine power or when we sat in the middle of traffic since the car would not re-start. Roadside assistance was unable to send anyone for almost 40 minutes, so we had to have the police push us to safety. After being towed to the Hyundai dealer for service, the car jst started up again. We were told that they could not find the problem since no error code was seen. The technicians updated the ecm to version cman s2 ab8f since it was a recommended general service. No one knew if it would fix the problem. The technicians also mentioned that another customer had the same problem the week before. Hyundai consumer affairs was not helpful, but did open a case number. Problem has not re-occured yet although transmission often pops.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2011

The vehicle was develivered in 01/2010, shortly after we noticed shuttering in the transmission and hard shifts from 2-3 3rd gear, at 7800 mile we took the car back to there dealer who stated they were unable to recreate. They changed the shift settings of the ecu and was told nothing to be done, the problem continued with multiple visits to the dealer, 2 weeks ago they replaced the transmission with a remanafactured unit, lastnight the new transmission exploded and it felt like a bomb went off under the hood there was transmission fluid everywhere and the and horrible grinding sound was noted. The vehicle was towed back to the dealker for repair and we are still awaiting word. This problem needs to be fixed before someone dies.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

Purchased vehicle brand new: transmission shifts violently when cold also misses gears when up/down shifting. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer multiple times starting when it only had 3,000 miles. I was told there was nothing wrong with vehicle. Took the vehicle to a different dealership, they indicated a software update need to be done to address the shifting problem. Update was completed, results were the same. Transmission still shifts violently. Don't know what else to do ???.
