Service Brakes problem #1

Ever since I bought by car in 2022 brand new the car has been shaking when I press on the brakes going around 70 mph. I took the car multiple times to the dealership and all they do is resurface the rotos. One time they refused to even look at the car so I called corporate and they got the dealership to do the same thing as before. But still the car shakes. I called corporate and they said to take to dealership to once again get the rotos resurfaced (how many times are they planning to resurface the damn rotors?) I took to dealership because the car was saying it was overheating. They ended up changing the thermostat or something related to it. And I asked them to once again look at the rotors because of the issue. The guy came back and said “we didn’t look at your rotors but you need brakes and that’s $500”. They refused to guarantee me if doing the break job will fix my issue. And I’m fed up. I looked online and as it turns out, the Santa Fe’s have a lot of possible manufacture defects. Such -breaking system (shudder / vibration common issue) -cooling system (common failures) - suspension & steering components -awd / drivetrain (if awd) -electronics & software - TSB (technical service bulletin) audit - turbo oil-supply pipe crack / oil leak risk -fuel-system pipe / fuel-rail hose leak (on certain turbo models -transmission oil-pump / transmission-system recall (power-train issues) -rear-view / backup-camera defect (visibility / electronics issue) (this actually did happen to me and they fixed it, but they denied it was a recall when I asked if this was common. So they lied) -trailer-hitch wiring harness fire-risk recall and possibly more issues I’ve yet to come across other owners having. These are pretty serious issues. Some causing even the car to catch fire. This is extremely worrisome and I need peace of mind. Please help me out thank you for your time.

Service Brakes problem #2

Vehicle purchased 9/1/24 from courtesy Hyundai of tampa. Dealership failed to file registration/tags until 10/4/24. 7/12/vehicle experienced involuntary acceleration and braking, resulting in impact with my mother’s home. 7/16/dealer issued written report stating vehicle was operating normally and documented a recall-related display/audio/camera software update. 8/14/Hyundai engineering inspection performed without my knowledge. No report has ever been released. 8/27/Hyundai issued corporate denial, blaming driver error and stating braking/acceleration systems were normal. 12/5/second involuntary braking incident at highway speed on I-275. Five uncommanded braking events over ~20 miles. Service manager stated failure was due to sensor/camera malfunction and instructed that the vehicle should not be driven and to tow immediately. Despite this, the vehicle had been released into roadway operation. VIN lookup shows an open, unrepaired federal recall (24v879000 / recall 271) for the rearview camera system, marked recall incomplete, despite the dealer’s documentation that recall-related camera/software work was completed on 7/16/25. Bbb auto line denied my claim only because the vehicle was outside florida lemon law eligibility. No safety determination was made. Hyundai released no engineering, sensor, or camera data despite an engineering inspection. This vehicle has experienced repeated involuntary braking and acceleration at highway speed, involving braking, camera, and automatic emergency braking systems, creating a serious risk of loss of control, collision, injury, or death. Despite repeated failures, contradictory diagnostics, withheld engineering data, and an open federal recall, the vehicle was released back into public roadway operation. I request that NHTSA formally investigate this safety defect.

Service Brakes problem #3

Vehicle will stall out while driving at speeds loss of braking capability and steering capabilities all lost when this happens. Vehicle will roll until stop. No control to steer or brake.

Service Brakes problem #4

When pressing the accelerator from a full stop, the car would either not move at all, idle/roll forward, or unsteadily jerk forward. In addition, the car would brake while driving despite not applying any pressure to the brake pedal. This issue persisted regardless of "drive mode" and no cruise control was in use.

Service Brakes problem #5

The car completely shut off in the middle of driving and I was unable to put the car into park or use the emergency brake and hazard lights because all of the controls are electronic. The lack of mechanical safety features is a danger.

Service Brakes problem #6

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and the vehicle was difficult to steer. The brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. In addition, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was almost involved in three crashes due to the failure. The contact had to drive the vehicle onto a curb to avoid a crash on one occasion. The contact stated that during the failure, the rear hatch switch became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer replaced several unknown sensors; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the failure had occurred six times. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the dealer after the first failure due to the steering failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was at the dealer and scheduled for an inspection by the manufacturer’s engineer. The failure mileage was approximately 17,500.

Service Brakes problem #7

Phantom emergency braking occurred on two separate occasions a few months apart while traveling at 50-60 mph for no reason. Almost rear ended. Flashing red zigzag alert stating “emergency braking”. Vehicle towed to dealership for inspection and diagnostics. Afraid to drive on freeway or highway. Dealership unable to reproduce or solve issue first time. Now at another dealership for inspection.

Service Brakes problem #8

While driving I could not accelerate over 35 mph on the freeway this has happened at 10 times now. While driving my parking brake will come on causing me to stop immediately. This is a huge safety risk not only to me but the people in my car or driving around me. My vehicle has been brought to dealerships multiple times and nothing has been done they can’t find the problem.

Service Brakes problem #9

I was driving on the highway when my car all of a sudden started to beep and told me it was activating the emergency brake. I was driving safely and was not at risk of a collision. The car slowed slightly. Just as soon as the emergency brake warning popped up, it was gone. It was terrifying for the car to slow down while driving 60 mph on the highway.

Service Brakes problem #10

Backed out of my driveway yesterday morning on way to work, 5/17/23. Driving down my street approx 15 mph to stop sign. As I approached stop sign I pressed on my brakes to stop and my car would not stop, it immediately accelerated and proceeded toward my neighbors house which was directly in front of me. I kept hitting the brakes and it would not stop. I was able to steer away from the home, went up the curb/lawn hit a couple of cable boxes and finally hit a pretty large oak tree on the same neighbors lawn. The car was still running on impact. Had major damage done to automobile (tire blow out/rim dented/front end damage) luckily I was in my neighborhood where the speed limit is 20mph. I had the car towed to Hyundai dealership and am waiting upon inspection and the result of what caused the accident. As of now they have not given me a diagnoses. They keep wanting to say it was driver error, which is completely incorrect. I did obtain a video from my neighbor which doesn't quite show what happened but the sound on the video you can hear the engine accelerate and than right after you can hear the crash impact. I do not want to drive this SUV I do not feel safe whether they fix it or not.

Service Brakes problem #11

Stopped at a red light when the brake pedal depressed to the floor causing the vehicle to move forward from still being in gear. (no loss of brake fluid) it caused me to be involved in an accident. The investigating officer (police) tried the brakes, when he first tried the brake pedal was high and working, but then suddenly depressed to the floor for him as well. The vehicle needed to be towed to repair shop.

Service Brakes problem #12

The vehicle is exhibiting heat spots on the rotors causing shaking while braking and making the vehicle not stop as designed or even reasonably safe. The issue first started at 7000 miles and became very undrivable by 9000 miles. The dealer turned the rotors at that time. Now the vehicle has 16000 miles and the issue has come back. I know of multiple others with the same issue including 1 family member with the same vehicle and year and multiple people on the hyunda forums. The service tech at the dealer said they see seeing this a lot now. Hyundai doesn't want to fix the issue any longer and it's still under warranty. The braking system is not sufficient for the size of the vehicle.
