36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2023

On 10/31 I loss power while on the freeway for the 2nd time since August. The car was assessed and fixed according to the dealership. My car threw a 2nd code which was cleared and not fixed due to not showing issues according to the dealership. I got my car back in mid November. I immediately complained that I still had a rough idle and was told my car was fine by the manager via service rep. On 11/28 my car loss power on the freeway again for the 3rd time since August. According to the codes, all my cylinders are failing one by one. This is a huge safety concern. The dealership could care less.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2023

The issue with Hyundai 2. 5 l turbocharged engines is getting a lot of exposure on-line. My story begins about a year ago with me complaining to the Hyundai service department about my 2022 Santa Fe limited hesitating, lurching, and stalling (once) following acceleration from a complete stop, all without the check engine light (cel) illuminating (which the dealership said is needed to initiate troubleshooting). In addition, there is a common thread where dealerships are telling owners that it is ". . . Probably bad gas. " on 2 October 2023 the SUV started and was idling very rough, and as I drove off, the cel illuminated (finally). After turning off the SUV for five minutes, it started fine with no cel. My obd-ii code reader pulled three codes from the SUV that afternoon: p0300, p0301, and p0302 (misfire - general, misfire - cylinder 1, and misfire - cylinder 2). The trouble codes should be sufficient for the service department to locate a problem, and to their credit I was placed in a loaner vehicle when I dropped the SUV off on 7 October 2023. So far (24 October), they have not identified a problem, even though there is a fuel injector technical service bulletin (TSB) for multiple Hyundai vehicles (including my make/model/year) that may or may not apply to my specific vehicle. Bottom line: the vehicle is unsafe to drive (as I told the service manager), has had this problem for approximately one year, and if the vehicle stalls when I am entering traffic it is not going to end well - not for me in a stalled vehicle and not for Hyundai after they had an opportunity to address the problem.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2023

Vehicle began to shake, buck and emit a grinding noise while traveling on highway resulting in loss of speed control and associated fear. Check engine light appeared simultaneously. No prior indication of a problem. Managed to limp to next exit via shoulder. Had car towed to dealer as warranty was still in effect. Problem was diagnosed as fuel injector failure and repaired. Learned it is a common, recurring issue with Hyundai 4 cylinder engine. Not unusual to have multiple failures per vehicle. Hyundai is only authorizing repair/replacement upon individual failures, not pre-emptive even though common and recurring. Confirmed this is a common, recurring issue across Hyundai via our local mechanic and internet info. Vehicle has now experienced a second failure and is being towed to dealer.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2023

I have experienced a sudden loss of power when accelerating and then sudden vehicle slowdown and engine shutdown. Twice this occured at either hiway speed or accelerating to highway speeds. In both of these cases I easily could have caused or been involved in a serious crash. The third time happened on a city street and was not as egregious. There was no forewarning this might happen. . . No warning lights on the dash, etc. The vehicle is currently in a dealership service department after the last occurrence , and has been for five days with no knowledge of the current status. The prior times the dealership, kolar Hyundai in hermantown, mn. Has only cleared the error codes stored in the computer, but not identified a cause. The three times it was in the dealership were 2/15/22, 6/28/23, and 9/5/23. The second time it had to be towed in. The car currently has 9200 miles on the odometer. I am now afraid to drive it, as I consider the problem to be dangerous to my safety, as well as other vehicles. I have contacted Hyundai customer care, but received no response as of today.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2023

I was driving the vehicle my pregnant wife and 1 year old baby were in the car with me. Car started shaking and I was loosing speed right before getting off the freeway. There was a very strong smell of gas as if it was leaking but it was not. I have an appointment to be checked at the dealership Wednesday August 16th. This is the second time something like this happens while driving in the freeway.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

I had previously filed a complaint and received an issue number 11494975 I have not been able to retrieve any information related to this number. In any event I am constantly having problems with acceleration, stalling, the car puts itself in neutral, and on occasion has completely turned itself off at a light or while driving. I do have a video of the acceleration problem and revived an email back from laura nelson. This is a very serious safety issue. Hyundai is not responding to following up. I also took it to an outside mechanic to put in the computer and got a general code so there is a problem somewhere. Thank you susan piller.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Vehicle check engine light came on while driving and vehicle began misfiring. Vehicle was in the shop and injector was found defective. Vehicle again had same issue but intermittently and wife would have to pull over and shut down the car to be able to drive it safely home. Dealership tried blaming bad gas which was purchased a mile from dealership. Within 50 miles vehicle began acting the exact same way and Hyundai dealership says injector needs replaced but blaming contamination not a known issue Hyundai has with injectors. Found multiple instances of same issue and same made up issue of contaminated gasoline even at the same dealership I went to. Faulty injectors make the vehicle unsafe when traveling at highway speeds on busy highways.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that on two occasions while driving at approximately 25 mph, the vehicle lost motive power. On the second occasion, the vehicle was steered to the side of the road and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was not able to be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2023

2022 Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid. This incident has occurred twice at the time of this write up. Both incidents have happened on the first start up of the vehicle engine for the day in the early morning (on the way to work). The temperature outside was cool (10-35 degrees, maine). On at least one occasion it had rained during the night before using the vehicle. It may have been damp on the other occasion as well. After about 3 miles of driving the vehicle it completely loses power. No amount of movement to the accelerator changes the sudden loss of all power. This is a hybrid and the battery gauge below charge/economy/power rpm area of the vehicle starts to completely and instantaneously drain to what would be zero had I not been able to pull the vehicle over and turn the vehicle off. At this point, on both occasions, leaving the vehicle turned off for a minute and then restarting the vehicle seems to alleviate the problem. The incidents have occurred about 2 months apart and since the vehicle turned 20,000 miles. I also feel like it takes more push on the accelerator to get the same response that I got on day 1 when I drove it off of the lot at the dealership. I also notice that the ev indicator light does not come on as frequently as it used to. It would always come on when coasting - and now sometimes it does not.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

On Friday the 7th of April while driving about 40 miles/hr my car lost power in traffic. I pushed gas pedal all way to floor to no avail. Then I was able to get it to move at about 20m/hr for short distance and it cut out and engine lite on as well as a horrible smell like something was burning. It had to be towed into dealer.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2023

I have experienced power loss soon after I bought the car in Dec 2021. While I was driving the car was going in a constant speed of 20 to 30 mph. However hard I pressed the gas, car felt not responsive. Reported this to the service center and was advised that this may be since car is learning my driving habit. Later in December 2022, received a recall 236 letter from Hyundai which was mentioning an issue similar to the one I experienced. Took the car for recall and informed me that the software upgrade is done as per manufacturer recommendations. Now on March 28th 2023 while I took the car out in the morning, there was more smoke than usual. And the same issue happened again. The car was not going beyond 20 to 30 mph for around 6 miles. Reported the same to the nearest service center and booked an appointment after 2 weeks . Also sent a complaint to Hyundai motors directly.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2023

This vehicle is a hybrid and the issue is an on/off error message that states that the inverter coolant level issue. When I lift the hood and view the inverter coolant level it is at the same location as the car was delivered in (exactly on the high mark). I have contacted two separate Hyundai dealerships in my area and one choose not to respond and the other stated that they were aware of this issue but had no fix for it. I tried to purchase the inverter coolant from the dealer and they do not even have it in stock to sell even if the coolant level was low. They have admitted that they do not know how to fix it or what is causing this issue. It is all over the forums and Hyundai is doing nothing to address it with anyone. I have a feeling that Hyundai does not know what the issue is and I know that they are aware and making no attempt to repair or replace it. If something is important enough to have a warning light go off shouldn't it be replaceable or repairable. These cars are put out so quickly and not enough testing and dealer personnel are not trained on how to troubleshoot or repair. I purchased the vehicle for cash and if Hyundai cannot fix it I believe I should be able to return it as a defect and get my money back.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. In addition, the blue link feature failed to contact law enforcement as needed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,777.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2022

The engine has had an oil leak since purchased new in 2021. This is a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with 4 cyl turbo engine. The air filter housing is also saturated with engine oil and the air filter is about 1/3 covered in engine oil, resulting in minimal protection. The possibility of fire is very realistic.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2022

Have repeatedly tried to get this recall fixed. Hyundai currently has no fix and none in the future.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2022

My car has stalled and shut down and locked up completely while I was driving the vehicle for the 4 th time thanksgiving day. I was petrified! I called service at the dealership and they wanted to charge me. The car isn’t even a year old! what is Hyundai going to do about this?.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2022

My vehicle has been having intermittent cylinder misfires for about 4-5 months now. Initially, before I knew this was the issue, I didn't think much of it because the shaking that would occur was mild, but as it gradually worsened I knew there was a bigger issue. I will start my car, the check engine light will be on, and the car will shake very hard with acceleration throughout the entire drive. I know that it is a cylinder misfire because I will get an alert on myhyundai app telling me that a dtc code has been detected, this is the code, "dtc p030100" (the servicing department confirmed this was the misfire code). I have come to learn that the car usually only populates the code when the issue occurs for consecutive trips. As this is an intermittent issue, there are times when I know that the car is misfiring during the drive (it is obvious), but I will not be sent a dtc notification. I have taken my car to the dealership 3 times for this issue with documented dtc codes for each visit. Upon my initial visit to get this seen about, my local Hyundai dealership changed the spark plugs and coil packs in an attempt to fix the issue (although the spark plugs should not usually need replacing at 20,000 miles). It was about 2 days until it started misfiring again. Since then, I have taken it back to the dealership twice because of this unresolved issue, but if the cylinders are not misfiring the day I take it, the issue is dismissed. I truly do not think they know or care to investigate the matter further. I have taken it to the dealership 3 times within the last 3 weeks regarding this issue. I have to imagine this is a safety issue as it can increase the chance of engine failure. Today was the 3rd visit, I picked it up and as I was told, "we saw the dtc code, but the cylinder was not misfiring when we looked at it, so we drove it around a good bit and no issues so the code was cleared".

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2022

On Friday 10/28/2022, I took my vehicle to receive its first oil change at a third party location at 7,042 miles and was told by the mechanic that there was significant metal pieces in the oil filter, which was abnormal for a brand new car but I was told it should be okay so I continued driving the car. My family and I left on a 700 mile road trip the next morning and by that night, the engine began making a knocking noise. On Sunday morning 10/30/2022, the engine would not accelerate anymore. On Tuesday 11/01/2022, I took the vehicle to sport durst Hyundai in durham, nc who informed me the engine has failed but it would not be covered under warranty because they do not deem this to be a manufacturers defect. The car is not drivable and Hyundai is unwilling to replace the engine on a car with less than 8,000 miles on it. There is no reason my engine should have failed on a brand new car.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2022

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that on multiple occasions while driving approximately 25-40 mph, the rpm increased to 5,000 however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and was advised to schedule an appointment to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2022

The car started to stall and then completely turned off while I was driving. I had to turn the engine off and restart the car. I was petrified. This has happened to me twice.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2022

We have had already had two issues with our Hyundai Santa Fe that we purchased new from a dealer on 5/21. The first malfunction happened on 7/23. While driving, we had several messages come across the dashboard warning that some sensors were not working properly. We then had the warning light, front collision light, the traction control light, the abs light, the auto hold and the emergency brake all light on the dash. We also lost the blind spot sensor on the side mirrors. Called the dealer and took the car in. Two days later was told it was a wheel sensor and all should be good. Then on 8/31, while merging onto a highway, I pressed the accelerator and although the engine revved, the car did not increase in speed. Luckily the car behind me was able to swing around me and I put on my hazards and pulled to side of the road. I turned the car off, restarted it and pulled out. Five miles down the road, while in traffic, the same issue occurred, but after about thirty seconds or so, the car jerked and picked up speed, back to the dealer it goes and they called to tell me that they cannot replicate it and there are no diagnostic codes showing. They are going to keep it for a few more days to do some more diagnostic testing, but don't know what the issue is. This is a brand new car -.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2022

We have a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with less than 17,000 miles. We pulled into the left turn lane at an intersection. When we stopped for a red light, the vehicle abruptly shut down all power with no warning. We tried to restart the car and nothing would work. We tried the hazard warning flashers and they did not work. Our vehicle was completely dead with no dash lights, no infotainment screen, we could not put the car in park or drive. We could not activate the emergency brake. It was as if the battery was disconnected. We were sitting in the travel lane of a very busy multi-lane roadway with no way to exit the vehicle unless we allowed it to become an errant vehicle. If my husband took his foot off the brake, the vehicle would have rolled backwards down the hill where we were stopped. After several light cycles, we were able to get a break in traffic and he was able to let the vehicle roll backwards and steer the car into a small roadside parking lot. I was able to find someone in an adjacent business who gave us a wooden chock to put under the tire so he could take his foot off the brake and prevent the car from reentering back into traffic. We called roadside assistance and tried unsuccessfully to restart the vehicle numerous times over the 2 1/2 hours while we were waiting for the tow truck. The tow truck driver came and was able to jump start the vehicle. This has now happened a total of 4 times in the last 4 months. The dealerships can not recreate the problem and there are no diagnostic codes because the vehicle dies abruptly. Hyundai customer service refuses to do anything to help with this issue because there are no codes and the tech can't recreate the issue. We can not drive this vehicle because when it happens it is very sudden and gives no warning. This could be a serious safety issue when the vehicle shuts down in the travel lane and we are unable to get out of the vehicle, activate emergency flashers or even put the car in park.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2022

Upon starting the vehicle, the gear shift went into drive mode but did not engage the engine or electric motor when depressing the accelerator. Then it would not allow me to change gear to park, neutral or reverse. It would also not allow me to turn off the car, the electric motor was still running but not moving the vehicle.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

It's been 6 months since I bought my car new. Around about 5,000 miles I started noticing that it rev'd really high before it would switch gears. It really became a problem when I pulled out onto a busy main road from a side street and it got up to 20mph then just rev'd really high and wouldnt go any faster. I had my son with me in the car and he looked behind us and said, mom cars are coming why arent we moving. I told him I was trying to, I took my foot off the gas pedal then pushed it again, I did this several times as we were coasting to a stop. The car then felt like it finally jolted into gear and started to go. It did this a couple more times, especially when trying to speed up from a stop or a slow roll. I called the Hyundai service department and explained the situation, they took my car and looked at it. They said nothings wrong and nothing showed up on the computer they plug into it. So I took the car home and continued driving it as its my only vehicle. It started to now just rev real high alot with trying to go from a stop. It also started jolting real hard when putting it in drive from park but not all the time. I called the Hyundai service department again around 7500 miles and explained to them again. Again they brushed it off and told me theres nothing. When I picked it up I asked them what do I do then they basically told me nothing and the service guy told me he didnt believe me. I told him I have looked this up online and it has been an issue with other years of the Santa Fe. He still brushed me off and I asked for corporates number so I could contact them. This is dangerous because I dont know when it is going to act like this and when pulling out into traffic it is not safe. Not only is it not safe for my son and myself, but for other drivers around me as well. I just want the problem fixed.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2022

Vehicle under normal operation began to lose power as the accelerator was depressed. Eventually stalling and consequently cutting power to the engine. The vehicle became immobile and would not move or engage out of drive until repeated efforts to turn off/on the vehicle. For a few days following the incident the vehicle idled very low, nearly shutting off in a few instances.
