The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact immediately depressed the brake pedal to slow down. There was no warning light illuminated. The failure had occurred several times and now occurred whenever the cruise control was activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure; however, the contact was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,434.
The cruise control uses a camera , the is supposed to watch your eyes , to make sure you are watching the road . Unfortunately , if you are wearing glasses ( which I must when I am driving ) the light reflecting off them makes the unit think I am not watching the road . For backround, I was a highway patrol offiger for 30 years . I am very attentive to the road ahead of me . It seems Hyundai knows of this problem , which suddenly disengages the cruise control , causing rapid deceleration of the vehicle . At highway speed , this is very dangerous . It has been noted on many forums , and my dealer knows about the problem , but there is no way to disconnect the camera from the system . This is really an accident waiting to happen .
