1 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/10/2025

Back up camara is shorting out due to the location it is getting wet and corroding. Without the camara it can be a safety hazzard. In doing research this seems to be a common problem due to the location of the camara. Poor design and could cause an accident. Failed after only 69k miles.

2 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/21/2023

Beginning the evening of 8/21/2023, this 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe hev began displaying warning messages: "check blind spot safety system" and "check rear cross-traffic safety system. " simultaneously, the car would not register a "ready to drive" and could not be shifted into drive or reverse. The car could be shifted into neutral. After turning off and restarting the car several times, the warning messages did not recur, and the car could be shifted and driven normally. The problem recurred in the following days. It appeared that the issue was unrelated to cleaning the sensors but may have been related to the car being left in the sun. The car had to be towed to a dealer on 8/23. This dealer claimed to be unable to reproduce the problem. It is believed that the dealer kept the vehicle in a shaded garage during this time. After retrieving the vehicle from the first dealer, the problem recurred the following day, 9/2, again after having been parked in the sun on a warm day. The vehicle had to be towed to another dealer who was able to reproduce, but not diagnose, the issue. As of 9/18, the dealer states that they have identified a connector that appears to be causing the issue, but they say that they don't know what the connector does, because it does not appear in manufacturer wiring diagrams corresponding to the VIN. Because of the dealer's and manufacturer's inability to diagnose the issue, it is unclear if the issue actually implicates the operation of the blind spot and rear cross-traffic safety systems identified in warning messages. Hopefully it is possible for NHTSA to work with Hyundai to figure that out. The vehicle is with the dealer in chantilly, va and is available for inspection.

5 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/15/2022

Having issues with the dash going completely black; so you can not see any instruments on the dash panel or the head unit (navigation/radio/airplay). The car has been into the shop three times so far with no resolution. The newest issue; the horn doesn't work, the safety features such as lane assist, lane departure etc. Only work intermittently, and I have had the brakes slam on for no reason. The last time I took the car back to dealer and told them I was afraid to drive the car, the service manager changed the settings on the safety features, not sure how that was to fix anything? we have been so close to being rear-ended because of the faulty braking system. The electrical system is having major issues, I have videos of the car doing all these things and have showed them to the dealership and they claim they can not fix the car because it doesn't happen when they drive the car.

6 Rearview System Braking problem of the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/20/2021

While driving on the interstate, I noticed a tapping noise that sounded like a flap hitting the car. I needed gas, so got off at the next exit. While exiting the interstate, the noise got louder and the car didn't want to accelerate. I pulled into the gas station. As I entered the parking spot, the car died. (it had burned oil in the past. I have had an engine cam replaced in Aug/sept 2019). I checked the oil. No oil! so, I ran and bought 5 quarts of oil and put them in the engine. I started the car and it didn't want to idle, but finally did after a minute. I rolled down my window and the car noise was multiple clanging sounds. It was as loud as a bad muffler. I shut off the car and called my boyfriend. He said it sounded like my engine blew. I called mcgraths in hiawatha, iowa and had the car towed there. I am 6000 miles over my 100,000 mile warranty. I am told that Hyundai won't cover this issue. However, what happened to my car sounded exactly like the problem with the Hyundai 4 cylinder engine troubles that were recalled in 2018. Hyundai knew I was having engine issues in 2019, and would only replace the cam. I feel that my engine should be covered by Hyundai. Currently, my car is in the shop and I have no vehicle to drive. The dealership is going to ask Hyundai for a "good will" percentage to repair the vehicle. However, this is no guarantee. I am over the iowa lemon law limit for mileage and years. I feel that since there were engine issues with other engines Hyundai made, that they knew I was having the same issues and wouldn't repair it correctly. I need to have someone check into this. I don't know what else to do. I am prepared to get a lawyer. My vehicle was not recalled ever.
