2 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/30/2025

I was in a car accident on September 30, 2025. I was hit from behind by a dump truck and was pushed into the car in front of me. My seat belt in my Santa Fe did not tighten, and my head hit the steering wheel. There is something wrong with the seat belts. I was going to take it to the dealer to check after repairs, but my car is a total loss. Just wanted you to know the seat belts failed, and it could happen to others who own this type of vehicle. The air bag did not deploy, but my understanding is that the car has to be going a certain speed.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/06/2024

To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally report repeated safety system failures in my Hyundai vehicle that have resulted in significant injury and ongoing hardship. The first incident occurred in 2021, when my vehicle was struck from the front by another driver who fled the scene. Despite the impact causing visible front-end damage, the airbags did not deploy, and the seatbelt did not engage properly. The vehicle was repaired by an authorized Hyundai dealership, yet at no point was I informed that the vehicle’s safety systems might be compromised or that it should not be driven. The second and more severe incident occurred in December 2024, when my vehicle was rear-ended by a commercial truck and subsequently pushed into four other vehicles. Once again, neither the airbags deployed nor the seatbelt engaged, resulting in multiple bodily injuries for which I am still undergoing treatment. After reporting this second failure to Hyundai, I was informed that the airbags and seatbelts may not activate when the vehicle is struck from behind. However, this explanation does not address the fact that the same safety failures occurred in the 2021 front-end collision as well. I believe these repeated malfunctions indicate a serious defect in the vehicle’s safety restraint and airbag systems that poses an ongoing danger to drivers and passengers. I am requesting a full investigation into these safety system failures, including whether the dealership’s repair process or Hyundai’s design or manufacturing contributed to these malfunctions. Due to these failures, I have experienced significant physical injury, emotional trauma, and ongoing medical issues, and I am seeking appropriate accountability and resolution.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

Driver seat belt will not latch properly. I have not spilled anything into it an have checked it for debris. If you jiggle and push slightly on the unlatch button while trying to insert the buckle it will sometimes latch.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/11/2024

The seat belt in the middle seat of the second row did not work. And it was not fastened. So when braking, my child was thrown toward the center console. I think it's a big safety issue if the seat belt doesn't work.

13 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/28/2024

Having great difficulty releasing the seat belt. At times, have to repeat pressing red release button. I’ve been using seat belts in more than 50-75 cars on my life experience and never had trouble releasing my seat belt. This problem is consistent with all family members who drive this car. I’m concerned if an emergency situation occurs, my family will not be able to get out of car quickly.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/14/2024

The driver side seat belt crosses at my neck. I have adjusted it as much as it will adjust and it still cuts into my neck. I am very concerned that if I am in an accident it will choke me or even decapitate me. In addition it is very uncomfortable but I am mostly concerned about the safety issue. I have not brought the issue to the dealer and I am unaware of any actual instances of injury happening. I assume you have access to that information.

17 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

Seat belt won't snap on the driver side.

18 Seat Belt problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

Upon exiting a parking lot at low speeds, the driver’s seat belt disengaged from the buckle. Despite multiple attempts to fasten the seat belt, it would not stay buckled throughout the drive, which was at speeds 40mph and below. Warning chimes sounded each time it unbuckled. It seems like a mechanical failure because the seat belt would become unbuckled if just a little force was applied to pull on the seat belt such as when making a turn.

20 Seat Belt problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

Took my car in for repair because I was told that my power steering pump and gaskets were bad. Upon further investigation it wasn’t neither. It was the power steering hose that goes from the power steering to the racket pinion. Both of the hoses had holes in them and were rusted out. Here Hyundai upgraded the power steering pump because of problems and I was never notified about the upgrade and you cannot purchase the hoses needed you have to purchase a whole new power steering pump that I don’t need. The airbag light is on and I couldn’t even order the airbag it was on back order when asked. The seat belt on the right passenger side in the back will not lock in place due to I don’t know what. Campaign 947 the under body corrosion treatment didn’t protect what it was suppose to causing my frame and control arms to go bad. I have had to replace upper and lower ball joints more than 4-5 times since I purchase this vehicle new from the dealership.

21 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/12/2023

I am the original owner of a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. It currently has less than 100,000 miles on it as I drive it infrequently. On June 12, 2023, my airbag light lit on the display and has since remained. I immediately contacted the local Hyundai dealership and made the next available appointment. I was concerned because I had recently completed the knock sensor detection system (ksds) service campaign on 4/3/2023. Initially, I took my vehicle to an auto repair facility where a diagnostic test determined my SUV had a b1620 error code and was advised to take it to a Hyundai dealership. My Hyundai appointment was on 6/23/2023. I shared the information about the error code with the technicians. The dealership confirmed I had a b1620 error code where the supplemental restraint system control module (srscm) shorted out. I also showed the dealership employees an extended warranty notification letter I received from Hyundai about faulty clock springs, but the dealer stated the module was completely separate and not part of the recall. The repair estimate was quite costly at around $2,600. From my understanding, the srscm controls all safety features. The dealership informed me the air bag light/error code means my entire safety system is completely disabled. This is not a mechanical issue but rather a safety red flag.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/09/2022

Emergency braking comes on with no vehicles in front for 1/4 mile. Passenger front seat belt is no working properly. Caution collision comes on sporadically. Clock does not show correct time. Stop-start system works sporadically. A/c fan blows out defrost sometimes. Remote start does not always work or shuts off too soon. Case manager does not return calls. Changed case manager but no better. Hyundai does not care.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/22/2022

There was a recall with the abs slipper slope and traction this left these warning symbols stay on constantly. I was told by westside Hyundai in jacksonville this would cost me over $200. 00 but I shouldn't have to pay for something that was recalled that left my vehicle this way. Also the drivers identified seatbelt doesn't click it will come loosen and out unless you hold down the button then put the seat belt in and let go of the button.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/15/2022

Front seat passenger seat belt retractor is locked. Dealer says seat belt and retractor needs to be replaced at a cost of $900. How many owners are going to spend that much money to replace the most important safety device in the vehicle? soon after I purchased the vehicle in 2014, the same thing happened to a rear passenger seat belt.

27 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/12/2022

Visual red triangle code illuminated on the instrument cluster with the number 1 on the side of it. I used my obd2 reader (blue driver) to retrieve the 8 air bag codes. They were b1511 ,b1513, b1378, b1382, b1346, b1481, b14ae, b2618. Problem resulted after the cowl cross bar assembly (unpainted), also known as a crash bar, was replaced because of broken welds. It was replaced with a painted assembly that prevents access to secure ground for the air bags and seat belts. The assembly is used to provide support in case of a crash and also serves as a grounding bus bar for multiple devices, such as; air bags, seatbelts, instrument cluster, on board safety cameras, lane, backup warnings, etc. . .

28 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/31/2021

The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai santa. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v816000 (seat belts) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The driver's seat belt would get fail to extend smoothly and instead would at times get stuck forcing the contact to use excessive strength. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

29 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/17/2021

Seat belt on drivers side does not retract without assistance. I took it to hyundia and they refused to fix it while the car was under warranty. The engine started burining excessive amounts of oil around 60k miles. We changed the spark plugs and found them to be covered in oil and corroded. We changed them again and they are worse. (recommended every 100k miles. ) the engine stalled once in traffic and continues to nearly stall when driven. The car has been burning in excess of 1 quart every 1000 miles since turning 75k miles. We were never notified of the engine failue issues with our SUV. At 96k mile it became so bad we took it in to hyundia in perrysburg OH taylor hyundia. We weree informed about the engine issue and they began an oil comsumption test. However the technicians when instructed to add 2 1/2 quarts of oil they added 5 ruining the testing. Then they claimed that the engine was only consuming 1/2 quart however we took a picture of the dip stick prior to brining it in and the oil was as always below the "l". We were then told we had to pay for an $800 engine flushing followed by 3 more consumption tests. Even if the tests show more than 1 quart of oil burning hyundia may still refuse to replace the failing engine under warranty.

30 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/13/2021

The driver seat belt locking mechanism has failed. I tried to replace it with oem manufacturer parts but have been told by Hyundai that the part is not available, it is on back order but will be discontinued before backorder is fulfilled. My question is how can you discontinue manufacturering a part which is mandated by every licensing state? I have filed a complaint with Hyundai but they have ignored my attempts to resolve this. I need help to return my vehicle to safety standards.

32 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/18/2020

Drivers chest seat belt is loose and the sensor in the seat belt you snap and lock it in place makes the "air bag" light for the driver only come on. Ive had it diagnosed and checked by a licensed mechanic, and was told the seat belt is defected, and currently, as long as the "air bag" light remains on, even if they turned it off, the drivers air bag would not deploy if impacted hard enough in vehicle collision. The air bag is okay and in working condition, its the sensors in the seat belts in the driver's seat that are out of date. The "red light" remains on from the time I start the vehicle and its in psrk, idking, moving, up until we are back idking, and the engingevis off.

33 Seat Belt problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/04/2020

Backseat passenger side seatbelt will not pull out far enough to buckle. Took to Hyundai and told that there are teeth broken off in the roller part of seatbelt. It seems that this would be faulty parts for teeth to actually break off and now knowing this, are any of the other seatbelts at risk of being fully secure for protection. Would like investigation and wondering why it would not be covered by Hyundai. They just showed him in a handwritten scrap of paper an estimate and dismissed. Going for second opinion and something in writing.

34 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
