The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle hit a pot hole and the passenger air bag deployed inadvertently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 181,800. The VIN was unavailable.
While cleaning out the vehicle, I had the front passenger side door open and when I went to shut the door, the wind took it and it slammed shut. As a result, the air bag on the side of the seat deployed. After researching, I found that models of my vehicle had similar recalls with the same summary of incidents. I spoke with the national dealer hotline and I was told that the vehicle missed the recall by 3 days. I am now waiting to hear back from a serviceman to see if they can do anything about it.

I have a Hyundai Sonata 2002. The 'airbag' light has been on constantly for over 4 years. Just recently I want to sell the car and started to look up how to fix this problem, since I could never afford it before. I found out that thousands of other Hyundai Sonata owners are having the same problem, and that the air bag does not work as long as this light is on. This is a defect from Hyundai and should not be the burden of the consumer. Hyundai needs to fix this problem for all of its vehicles years 2000 - 2008 whether the warranty has expired or not. It is a travesty!!.
My hyunday Sonata had an accident, hiiting a parked SUV and the Sonata was totalled but the air bag didn't deploy (inflate).
