14 problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata based on all problems reported for the 2006 Sonata.
My car battery light went on. I replaced the battery 2x, replaced the alternator, checked the ground and all connections. My battery light flashes, then goes off then my seatbelt light blinks and goes off and my windshield wipers are not getting the power to wipe and the rear defroster turns off every time the battery light flashes. Ive been to 3 mechanics and they all say bring it to Hyundai. When I brought it they said there was no recall so I left the service room and am now on the NHTSA site. All of this is while both stationary and in motion.
Replaced alternator due to faulty leak oil gaskets. Oil leaks onto alternator in 3. 3 liter v6 Sonata. This will be the second alternator in less than a yr. I also read in a auto forum others have complained of the same issue. This can be very dangerous causing car to just die with little warning other than battery light lighting up on dashboard. Vehicle barely made it home.
It all started with 3 bad alternators. The alternator was replaced 3 times in 2 years all brand new alternators. In those 2 years the car had trouble starting in interments. Turning the key 5-6 times the car will eventually start. Recently the car's headlights, air conditioning, and radio turn off when the car is slowing by applying the brake. Computer prompted no code for a problem. I have read about these same issues with the same make, model, and year. What is the malfunction?.
While driving, the damper pulley seperates and the power steering fails along with the water pump and the alternator. This damper as it is called is a device that drives all the belt powered devices on the engine. I asked the dealer if there was a recall on this and the reply was no. How can a power steering failure not be a recall? when you are turning and the power steering fails I would say the majority of drivers would not be able to steer the vehicle out of this situation. Look online and view all the places that list this problem. This is a big safety issue the vehicle steers very hard and is difficult to control.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While driving the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the drive gasket was leaking onto the alternator and the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 14v415000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 59,158. The VIN was not provided.
Oil leak from engine valve cover - left (front) side of 3. 3 v6. This is directly above alternator. Eventually alternator fails due to severe oil/dirt contamination. First noticed when battery light comes on at idle, showing charging problem. By then damage is done. Valve cover must be replaced along with alternator or problem will quickly recur. *there is currently a recall for Hyundai veracruz with same engine for the same problem. Sonata is not included, but a quick internet search shows this to be a common, well-known problem for many years.
Oil leaked from valve cover onto alternator. Engine stalled and left me stranded on rural mountain road. Finally got towed home. Mechanic says it will cost nearly $1000 to replace valve cover gaskets and alternator. Car is 2006 Hyundai Sonata with 3. 3l 6cyl engine. I believe that this is the same engine and same problem that prompted the recall on 2007 Hyundai veracruz NHTSA campaign number: 14v415000. The existing recall should be expanded to include more Hyundai vehicle models that exhibit the same problem.
The system warning lamps illuminated, then the engine shut off and would not restart. Evaluation showed that the alternator had failed and was covered with engine oil which had leaked from the front valve cover gasket onto the alternator. This failure is the same as NHTSA campaign number 14v415000, which covers another Hyundai vehicle.
Headlights dim momentarily, radio goes off momentarily, passenger seat side kick panel relay goes "ticking" momentarily, car jerks momentarily when gas pedal is applied and gear is changed from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 when I just start my journey (I. E. Just start the engine and start driving, usually). If gas pedal is released while any or all of these are happening, abs, brake and esc warning lights come on and stay on the dashboard. These warning lights remain on till the next time I start a new journey and will only go off if the problems mentioned above don't happen as the gear changes from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3. I've been to a Hyundai dealer countless number of times. Alternator and battery has been replaced. Ground wires have been checked. They have no clue what is wrong with the electrical system. Please fix this. It has been a known problem and still is creating problems for Hyundai Sonata owners.
When the brake was applied or excel pedal was not applied, all electricity function(radio, a/c, and headlight) went down for a second and came back again. It started happen when the vehicle marked over 100,000 miles and occurred frequently during driving. Even after changing battery and alternator which dealer pointed as reasons of the problem through whole electricity check-up, it happened again and again. The dealer couldn't point out the reason. I appear this problem here for serious potential accident possibility.
Electrical system outage including interior and exterior dimming lights, radio turns off/on, ac shuts off/on, dashboard lights come on and eventually turn on (engine, abs lights, etc. . . ). This occurs every time I drive my car, 4-5 times in a 10-15 minute drive. Usually happens at lower speeds, when decelerating/accelerating, but not consistently. Air bag light has been on for last 3 months. Air bag light issues couple yrs ago and took to dealer for recall issue, attributed to a sensor issue, which seemed to fix it until recently. Had alternator replaced 3 months ago, without improvement. 3 mechanics unable to identify cause. Very frustrated! otherwise car has done well. This should be recalled and fixed, as I've noticed many other similar complaints.
During cold starts battery & seat belt lights come on. Also, power steering seems to not work. This happened several times. The alternator & battery were replaced, but did not correct the problem. Dampener pulley replaced & corrected the problem.
At first it was the radio, turning on and off by itself when I would try to lower the volume it would be louder. My headlights would go out and turn on again, my emergency brake light will turn on as my car would stop in the middle of the street. Air bag deployment sign is on and the bag it is not deployed. The abs, esc and other glow lights will turn on; sometimes I cant roll down the windows or lock the car with the button. Now my car will not start, no power and it resets my clock. I have gone to the dealership twice and they are greedy money hungry !@#$% who do not care for their customers, I replaced the battery and the alternator and its been through diagnostics and the alternator was the only thing found wrong. I have issues with the car at least twice a day and three times its died completely. This is an 2006 Hyundai Sonata it should not give me these problems.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While driving at night, the radio and the headlights shut off without warning. The dealer was able to duplicate the failure, but could not provide a remedy. They have inspected the vehicle on five different occasions. The following parts have been replaced: the alternator, fuse box, computer, electrical harness, and the battery. The failure continues to occur. The current mileage is 15,000 and failure mileage was 9,000.
