My brakes failed in January, and my car hit the garage door. I spent $800 to get them fixed, only to have them fail after five months. Because of this it came to my attention that there was a rear cross member recall for corrosion on my car. To complete the recall, the dealership wants to charge me for all of the rusted parts that will break once they dig to reach the recall. I have been without a car since January, and Hyundai corporate declared my case closed and refuses to assist, after weeks of deliberation, they only addressed the problem of my brakes and not the recall, which they completely left out of their final determination. The dealership cannot proceed and complete the recall because many parts they will have to remove will be unusable, and cannot safely be placed back. Things are at a standstill, and I desperately need my car back and operational!.
The vehicle would randomly accelerated without warning. During the failure, the rpms would increase and the vehicle would lunge forward. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The contact would have to apply extra force to the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from accelerating around 70000 on car. It has a jerk when I am accelerating until I get to a faster speed. But it doesn't accelerate on its own. . I was string at a lightor whenever I go to stop it accelerates on its own. Sometimes while I'm driving it seems to pick up speed on its own as well.
Air bag light on dash won't turn off after starting car.
Alarm keep beeping.
The front drivers seat has started rocking, forward and back. I believe the attachment to the traveler on the front of the seat has failed. The rear attachment is still there, but the seat actually rocks. This is a very dangerous condition, which should be covered by the manufacturer, since it is a design defect. When you accelerate and decelerate the seat rocks based upon the forces, which could lead to a traffic accident. The condition happened when I was getting out of the car.
Driving and the drivers side window spontaneously broke into pieces. As I did more research others had the same problem. Could tell nothing but it, did not shatter just fell almost, like too much pressure.
Car horns are usually operated by small buttons on the steering wheel. My Hyundai Sonata horn is sounded by pushing on the large pad on the steering wheel. This requires a large force. My strong wife can¿t push hard enough to sound the horn. I regard this as a bad design.
3 of my four exterior door handles broke off in my hand while trying to open the doors. I bought the car in NJ. I searched to see if there was a recall after the second one broke and seeing many other Sonatas with missing door handles but there wasn't one. I read they are made of plastic. I also read of people being told it was from the cold. However I moved to florida 2 yrs ago and 2 more handles have broken off in my hand since moving here. One in July of 2015 and one last week in June. Its been 85-90 degrees. So the cold weather is clearly not the cause. If im ever in an accident or anyone else and have to get my children out of the back seat. It would be an issue for anyone and extremely dangerous. There are hundrends if not thousands of complaints about this exact problem all over the internet. Something really needs to be done to fix this. Its not just the exterior door handle that has to be replaced its the whole assembly the door has to be taken apart and it is not cheap for all the parts needed to fix just one handle and the cost of paying a shop is not affordable for most people, and I cant drive around with children in the car and no door handles.
The power door locks frequently fail to work with the fob or the interior switch. I travel with my grandchildren and an unlocked door could let them open the door with the vehicle moving at speed.
Oil pours into my driveway, or wherever else when the car is parked. I keep putting oil in and it comes out.
Bounces up and down in the front.
The passenger visor broke creating a visual hazard because it will not fold up to the ceiling. It remains in the down position. It just snappef while attempting to adjust it. There are recalls on other visors that have done the same thing. This happened to the drivers side visor 5 years ago and was covered inder warranty. I feel like this is a defect in design which causes the visor to snap.
I was parking the car (going about 5 mph ) at the food market , had coasted into the space and was using the brake ready to totally stop at the cement stop block. . Suddenly the motor sounded like a racecar and the car lurched forward and up over the cement stop block into the concrete wall /column where it stopped ! I was so fortunate to be in that parking space in front of the wall or I would have gone straight into the glass wall of the market !!several people ran out of the market to help me out of the car. There was steam coming from under the hood and some liquid was draining under the front of the car. . Someone decided to call the fire dept. . Because they thought it was gasoline. . Someone else suggested that I turn off the motor because it was still running. . I could not shift the car so I could not get the key out. The gear shift was stuck and would not work . We decided to leave it alone until the tow truck arrived . I was really reluctant to do too much because it was on a slight slant and I thought it might start moving again. Noone else was in the car. The skin on my knee was scraped and my knee felt a little sore. . . No major injuries. Just very shaken!!. The car was towed to a repair shop and my insurance company will schedule an inspector for the repair order. I am in no hurry to get it back. I'm feeling very nervous about driving it again. . . . Affected parts? ( item on this form) I can see that the hood and the front bumper are damaged. . Fluid and steam came from somewhere under the hood so maybe the radiator or hoses are also damaged. I am not a mechanic and I don't have the report yet but something else is going on if the car makes a racing car noise and then moves forward quickly. The mileage is only 35,584. . A 2007 Hyundai Sonata. . I have pictures if you need them.
I purchased the Hyundai Sonata in 2007 brand new. In 2009-2010 I started having a problem where the key will not turn over. I was stuck at work for 4 hours trying to turn the key. I had to pay to have it towed to the dealer. They said the ignition switch had fell back and needed to be replaced. It is now 2014 and I am having the same problem and my key will not turn over. I googled the problem and so many people are having this issue. I work nights and when I got off work last night my key would not turn over, and I tried for 2 hours. I had to leave my car there. I think this should be a recall issue because drivers should not be forced to pay $200-325 every couple of years for a problem that should not exist. The companies says to turn the wheel and then turn the key, but sometimes that does not work. It says nothing about this is the drivers guide, and I learning that so many people are having this issue. I saw a video on youtube where a man was teaching people how to start the car when this happens.
I was just driving to work and the esc off light came on, the only way I have been able to get it to go off is to restart the car. One of the times I had trouble getting the car in to park but after playing around with the brake petal it final allowed me to shift. It has been happening randomly, I had it check for error codes and nothing could be found.
My air bag has been on now for 2 months and like another complaints I was told that I could bring it and pay 85 dollars for them to run a test to see what was wrong. I took it in for the recall about the seat belt where they had to ship it to CA. If you know that you have had problems with your air bag system wouldn't it be good customer service to check it for free. My esc light will come on at least once or twice a month. I'm not sure what causes that problem to happen. I have a concern about the paint flaking off. I have read on other sites and spoke to several body shops about this concern. The body shops state that the problem lies with the primer not holding the paint. I've already had to have the roof repainted and now my trunk is down to bare primer. I don't feel that I should have to pay for another repair bill for something that happened at the factory. I'm just wondering if anyone else has complained about this?.
On may 17th, 2014 I was in an accident on interstate 95 in broward county, FL. A drunk driver hit me on the left side of my trunk then hit the cement median then came back and hit me in the middle of my driver side and back driver side door, then hit the median again came back towards my car and flipped and hit the front left side of my vehicle. So basically the whole left driver side of my car is smashed in. I was wearing my seat belt when this accident did occur. What my concern is, I did some research and it states the notable features included on this vehicle is six airbags standard. Not one airbag deployed and if I wasn't wearing my seat belt I would have been through the front windshield and probably lost my life. My entire left side of my body is damaged and the more severe injury is to my left leg and foot. With the exception of my left big toe, all other four toes have no feeling in them and my foot is deformed. I do plan on taking this issue to my attorney that is handling the accident case for me and hopefully Hyundai has a very clear explanation for why not one of the 6 airbags deployed.
While I was driving down the highway, the driver's side visor spontaneously fell down blocking my view. The visor would no longer stay in an upright position. After doing some research, this appears to be a common issue with the model year of my vehicle. Hyundai has a technical service bulletin out for numerous states, but apparently, it doesn't cover my state and vehicle. They are refusing to repair the visor at no cost to me, even though this appears to be a safety issue. It's concerning there is no recall that has been issued for this issue.
Electric switch for drivers seat adjustment continually failing to work. Drivers side sun visor continually failing to stay up blocking view.
Both sun visors will not stay all the way up or down and block my view through the windshield.
I bought this car used last September. When the weather turned very warm one day I put in the key to start the car, and the key wouldn't start. I looked in the book that came with the car, and it said to jiggle the steering wheel and then turn the key. This happened in my garage. I called the dealer where I bought the car. He actually came to my house and we both tried everything and we couldn't get the key to turn. I kept at it. I dis-engaged it out of park into neutral and tried moving the car. After what seemed like an hours or two, I tried it again, and finally the key turned. I called hundai in medford, oregon, and they said they didn't have any idea as to why the key wouldn't turn. Great service!! now it seems whenever it gets really hot it does this often. I have gotten stranded so many time and have had others help me. My insurance towing service guy called me after I got stuck at the grocery market, and explained this was a security lock, and to make sure I had the wheels turned straight, and to just jerk the steering wheel left, and the key should un-lock. I am beginning to think this may be why the prior owner sold this car. I am 69 years old, and I am afraid at some point I will be off with no-one around to help me. Is this a common problem with this model? when I researched this on line, it seems to be a glitch with this 2007 model. Please help me with a solution. I can not afford to buy another car. I am on a fixed income. Thank you.
There is problem with the ignition. If I take my key out the mechanism locks, the steering wheel locks and I can't get the car started again. I have been stranded several times and have started leaving the key in the ignition all the time. I know that I am not the only one having this problem I took it to the dealership and they said the mechanism has gone bad and I would have to pay to have it replaced because it's not covered under the warranty. That means having 2 different keys for the car.
The issue relates to defective sun visors in my 2007 Hyundai Sonata. Note: Hyundai issued a recall - service campaign # t74, to replace both driver & passenger visors, but excluded my state of new york! both my visors are broke and they knew they were defective sun visors but they wont pay the cost to replace them. How can this be allowed? hoping you can influence them to do the right thing and replace my defective sun visors at no cost to me. These defective visors are a driving hazard as the visors are unable to stay in the up position remaining in the down position reducing my visibility while driving.
April 2013 passenger side visor won't stay up. Jan 2014 driver side visor won't stay up.
I pulled my visor down to block the sun. Plastic cruched and broke at the visor pivot arm. Now the visor will not stay up and this is a safety issue! visibility of the road is hindered. This is the 2nd time this has happened. I hardly use my visor so wear and tear is not an issue. This should be corrected by Hyundai but I am passed my warranty period.
We purchased the car in 2007 and at first it was good but for the last year or so the ignition keeps locking, when you put the key in. It will not unlock the steering column to start the engine.
The driver side sun visor does not stay in the up position. It keeps falling into the field of view. There are numerous other complains on the web for the same complaint. Seems to be a poorly built part.
Tpms sensor light came on after car had flat. Took it to les schwab 7 times and they kept checking for a flat. Sometimes something in the tire, sometimes not. Finally took it to a dealer. They reset the sensor but about a week later it came back on. Then I took it back and they replaced the sensor. Haven't had any problems since then. It seemed to be related to plugging my car charger in. I didn't have any problems thought until I had the first flat.
I just filed a complaint about my 2006 and this is for my 2007 Hyundai visor. It is broke and a safety issue. I also read there was a recall for this visor issue in some states, but not all or mine in illinois. Not sure how true this is, but in any case should be a recall for all affected vehicles.
The tire pressure monitoring system has shown a failure for almost 2 years. I have taken it the dealer several times and they would re-teach the system and the tpms light returns about a week later. The dealer then said I had 2 faulty tire pressure sensors. I had all 4 tire pressure sensors replaced at a non-dealer (they assured me they could make the new sensors communicate with the car) location and the tpms light came back on about a week later. I took it to the dealer and they did a re-teach and again within a week the tpms light was back on. This safety system, designed to provide early warning of tire losing air pressure, is not very robust and is very manufacturer dependent for maintenance and repair. At this point the system is inoperable and has been for 2 years. I feel sure the dealer will say they need to put Hyundai parts in the vehicle to make the system opererable. The cost for that service is twice what third parties charge. On a limited income that premium is not practical. These universally required safety systems need to be more generic as to make them easier to maintain and repair. It is unknown to me if Hyundai is having issues with this system on other cars.
1. Air bag is on constantly. Have had it fixed by dealer but to no avail; it's not off for very long. Have had this problem for over 12 months. 2. Sun visor on both driver and passenger side are broken, won't stay up. I am using make shift alternative to support them. It creates a safety hazard when the visor unexpectedly drop when driving. Have spoken with other Hyundai owners with the same concern.
After lowering the sun visor I tried to put it back up but it would not stay. If kept on falling back down. Now, this week the drivers side sun visor has started doing the same thing. Sometimes it stays up and sometimes it falls down. This can be very distracting while driving and could cause an accident.
We have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata with two defective sun visors. One started to fall down and not stay up in position about 3 years ago. Now both are defective and stay down all the time and are not able to stay up at all greatly effecting the visibility from within this vehicle. I'm a tall person and have to constantly shift the visor on both sides in order to see oncoming traffic. Hyundai has a "campaign" notice for 2006-2008 Sonata's with the same problem but only in warm states. The cost of the visors are between $90 and $100 dollars. Hyundai offered to give us $100. 00 toward our next service, but we'd just like to have the defective parts replaced like in the warm states.
The sun visor on the passenger side of my 2007 Hyundai Sonata just started dropping on its own and won't go back to its normal position. The same thing happened to the driver side sun visor about 6 months ago, which had to be replaced since it was blocking site. We had to take the car to a Hyundai dealer to have it replaced.
Paint is constantly chipping.
