Red “airbag” light on dash illuminated while driving. Code read as b1706: passenger buckle pretensioner. May have been covered under Hyundai’s 15yr/250k warranty but owners never notified since not official recall. Although, this defect may not affect airbags themselves it causes “airbag” light to remain illuminated until addressed. Driving with the “airbag” light continuously illuminated may pose risk to unsafe conditions due to unknown new airbag codes since “airbag” light already illuminated with buckle pretensioner code b1706.
Air bag light is on due to bad OCS - occupant classification system on the passenger seat. It is a safety issue and airbags wont deploy in case of an accident. Passenger seat bealt light is blinking even withoit passenger. Problem has been confirmed by the service center and reported to the manafacturer. There is an open campain 083 for Sonatas with this issue but not all vehicles are included, VIN of my vehicle is not included even if it has the same issues as described in the campain.
The air bag sensor in my car is defective. This was already a recall by Hyundai, but for reasons I don't understand does not include my car and I believe it should have. It is the right make, model, and year the original recall included. Apparently the seatbelt tension adjuster is also involved in my case.
My mechanic advised me of airbag code b1448 and advised me he rad my VIN to check any open recalls. He stated my VIN is not in airbag recall related to this code but that there were aibag OCS codes on that model year which came up b1448 that were covered. I cobtacted Hyundai north America and went over with them a series of questions relating to the vehicle. Hyundai advised me that I may be covered by vehicle passenger OCS recall. Dealership refused to diagnose without a charge. Also tried to instead sell a battery despite being new one. Contscted Hyundai north America again and referred me out but stated while this is recall it doesnt apply to VIN. I am not going to deal with intermediary however, I chose to deal with you directly to resolve what personal mechanic is telling me is an absolute model year code recall thst just happened not to include my VIN.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated his air bag and seat belt warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he has taken the vehicle to independent mechanic and was informed under seat sensor was failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to local dealer route 46 Hyundai located at 40 us-46, hackettstown, NJ 07840, (866) 755-9537, were made aware of failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer has been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 83,000. Dp.
Air bag light on continuously, fault passenger seat belt pretensioner high resistance. Disabling the srs system. Light just came on upon startup.
The air bag turns on and remains on. I found out that there has been a warranty extension for this vehicle, however, when I visited the dealership they simply sent me away stating that they don't have the parts and Hyundai is still working on it. It seems like Hyundai dealers are sending away customers without taking any responsibility or at least trying to order the part. My airbag light is still on and this is a safety issue that dealers are simply avoiding to address. The dealer did not even bother to check the car with a diagnostic tool, as soon as I mentioned the warranty extension they simply said they do not have the parts.
Airbag light on , took the vehicle to dealership and scan showed code b1448, OCS passenger seat mat replacement . Cost of replacement $1600.
I first noticed the valve cover gasket leaking onto the alternator at about 121,000 miles and at 140. 000 miles I had the valve cover gasket replaced, thermostat, intake plennom gasket also. And had the alternator replaced after it failed because of the oil leaking onto it at 156,092. Luckily I just drove by my mechanics garage at about 50 mph and about a mile passed his garage the car started to buck and stall and all the dash board lights were flashing along with the cd turning on and off along with the seat belt light which was flashing on and off when it was buckled for about 1 month prior to this failure. I actually made it to his garage before it shut down in his parking lot.
Took the car into the shop for an airbag light. They said that it was a bad oc mat sensor. I was quoted $1000+ for parts and labor. I asked why this wasn't covered under the recall because my car was in the range 06-07, they said my VIN did not indicate an active recall. I called corporate and they also said I was sol. This is something that needs to be fully recalled, far too many of them are failing and Hyundai refuses to do anything about them.
This is now the 4th time I have had to take the car in for an airbag light that indicates a bad seat belt sensor. Frustrated to have to still deal with this issue. Stationary on start up light goes off then comes right back on.
The last week of October 2016, my Sonata''s air bag warning light came on and has stayed illuminated for the last two weeks. Simultaneously, the right passenger seat's seat belt warning light has stayed on even when no one is in the seat. Also, the "passenger seat air bag off" light has come on.
The air bag warning light (remains on constantly) and passenger side seat belt warning lights remains on even with a passenger above the weight limit. The air bag warning light will not turn off and the passenger side seat belt light will not turn off even when the seat belt is hooked up. There is a recall for faulty sensors, recall notice, 08v161000, for 2006 - 2008 Hyundai Sonatas but my 2007 is not covered? I feel like my Sonata has many of the issues in past recalls but for some reason isn't included in them (outside lighting, esc light periodically kicking on, brake sensor failing numerous times, continuous issues with rear brakes, etc. ) I think Hyundai should expand this airbag recall as I hope we aren't being put in harms way with an unexpected airbag failure when we need it most.
The air bag warning light and passenger side seat belt warning lights come on when I start the car. The air bag warning light will not turn off and the passenger side seat belt light will not turn off unless the seat belt is hooked up. I understand that these may be issues associated with faulty sensors. This is particularly disconcerting because I've reviewed the issues on-line and it's possible the air bag system may not be operating properly. I've seen that other Hyundai owners have tried to deal with these same issues and gotten little or no satisfaction from their Hyundai dealership. There was an extended recall notice, 08v161000, associated with the passenger side air bag for 2006 - 2008 Hyundai Sonatas but my 2007 is not covered? is there a way to find out why that is?.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. While operating the vehicle with the front passenger seat occupied, the front passenger air bag sensor light illuminated, which indicated that the air bag system was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor was faulty. The sensor was replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact also indicated that the seat belts randomly activated while operating the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
The sensor for the seat of the passenger side is not working and is giving problem.
My front passenger seat belt flashes while driving along with the air bag light stays on in the interior dash, with or without a passenger the seat belt lights goes off when I come to a complete stop but the air bag light stays on continuous.
While driving alone the passenger seat belt light keeps blinking and the air bag light in the drivers console came on and wont turn off.
Investigation seat belt buckle electrical malfunction NHTSA action number: pe14023 NHTSA closed this investigation 12/1/14 on the condition that Hyundai would extend the warranty to 15 years and 250,000 miles for this repair. Per the letter attached to the case I contacted Hyundai today to get reimbursed for the expense related to this issue ($380. 75). I spoke to two different reps at Hyundai and neither had any idea what I was talking about. So it's been three months since this case closed and Hyundai is not honoring the new extended warranty.
Airbag light went on again. Took to dealer for second time and they confirmed there was a fault in the seat belt buckle that trips up the airbag system. Quote is $310 to fix on top of $130 they charged me to determine reason for air bag light.
Our 2007 Sonata air bag red light came on for no reason, just as hundreds of others have said while researching the problem on the internet. Probably will not attempt to get help from Hyundai at this point since so many others have been charged $400 plus for repairs that only last for a short time, and need to be done again. Always liked this car till this issue started. Because of Hyundai's disregard for the safety of those who own their vehicles, I will be selling this car, never buy from Hyundai again and will inform others of this problem so they can avoid the danger and frustration of dealing with Hyundai.
The air bag warning light in the instrument cluster came on and stayed on. All I did was start the car. When I took it to the garage to have it diagnosed the error that the garage got was "b1706 - passenger buckle pretensioner voltage high". The cost to repair is going to be approximately $400. 00.
While driving I noticed that my air bag light came on, I immediately went to the dealer. They said that my passenger seat belt is defected. They said the cost of fixing is approximately $500. 00, and the initial fee was $110. I looked online and there has been alot of complaints about this same issue.
Recently air bag light on the dash has been coming on. Since state inspection was around the corner had it inspected and the vehicle fail because of air bag light, code b1706, passenger buckle malfunction. Estimate of $400 to replace, that includes part and labor. I am forced to get this fixed for obvious safety issue but also my car will not pass state inspection with this light coming on. It's not often that someone sits in the front passenger seat so definitely not overused. After further online research I see this is a continuous problem people are reporting for this make and model. It would appear this should be part of a national recall since so many complaints about it but also because this kind of buckle malfunction does not seem to happen often with other vehicle types. First time I have experienced this with any make I have owned.
The air bag warning light stays on. Took car to a Hyundai dealership and they said it the passenger seat belt assembly. It will cost about $400 to replace.
Air bag warning light came on. The codes were run and revealed seat belt pretensioners were the issue. Estimated repair via the dealer was $500. The air bag light had come on previously last year approximately 4/2013. The codes were the exact same, but dealer was able to clear codes from computer.
Dealer found codes b1706 and b1102 present. Dealer tech stated driver seat belt buckle needs replacing, with an estimated cost of $344. 56. The srs module is not allowing codes to be reset, needs replacing also, with an estimated cost of $1,004. 00. I see NHTSA has just started investigating the b1706 code -- my understanding from reading the other complaints is that a short circuit is causing the error code, and replacing the seat belt assembly is not permanently fixing the problem for most owners. Most owners mention repeat bills of about $350, but a few of the complaints mention much higher repair estimates, over $1,000. I suspect these estimates include replacement of the srs module, like my estimate did. Nhtsa should consider whether there is also a rash of srs module failures due to the same short circuit. My b1102 code, indicating a high-voltage error, could also be more common and could also be caused by the same short circuit.
The air bag light came on so I took the car into the dealer for a diagnosis ($75). They told me there are two issues - the OCS which is already under recall so no charge and the other is the driver side seat belt issue reported by many others here. I was told that this $300+ repair is necessary for the airbag system to work properly. Clearly this should be a recall item or at least repaired at no charge if it occurs. Also, the dealer wouldn't even credit me for the diagnostic fee even though one of the issues is a recall and the other is going to be repaired by the dealer.
Two weeks ago my air bag light came on. Brought the vehicle into the dealer this morning and they tell me that I need a new passenger seatbelt buckle. Failure to replace this incredibly expensive part would result in the failure of the airbags to deploy in the event of a crash. Also, the state I live in would not allow the vehicle to pass inspection with this light being on. So I can not wait for a recall, I have to replace this part now. Seeing as how many others have reported this problem and it directly relates to the safety of the vehicle I do not understand why this seatbelt buckle has not yet been recalled.
Hyundai has changed my seat belt buckle numerous times because of an air bag related issue. Now that its out of warranty they will not cover it. Air bag light back on and they want,$400 to replace the bad seatbelt with any warranty. This is probably the 4th time since I had the vehicle brand new that im having this problem, I never in my life experienced so many airbag problems with a vehicle other then a Hyundai. Also now they are saying my brake light switch is bad yet again after they supposely changed it out a few years ago for a recall, to many of the same problems with Hyundai. Scared to drive the car feels like I bought a lemon. Wish there was more that Hyundai could do for there customers but it seems like they dont care. What ever happend to Hyundai slogan about safety 1st. .
While I was driving a couple days ago my air bag light came on. It has stayed on for 3 days now. I called Hyundai customer service and they stated that the seat belt issue is under investigation. I was informed that since this has not been recalled, I must pay $100 for a diagnostic check and then hundreds of more dollars to get it fixed with no guarantee that it will be reimbursed. This is ridiculous that I must pay for a known safety issue to be fixed because a government agency is so slow moving in forcing a recall. This is a known issue that puts lives at risk. This needs to be recalled immediately and those of us that have paid for it be reimbursed.
I received a letter from Hyundai that my car was under recall (issue with the passenger air bag being DE-activated) & urged me to visit the dealer if OCS light was on. Hence I took it to the dealership based on this safety recall notice. They checked the system and the front passenger seat and said there was no problem and that my system was fine. Less than 1 month later the red airbag light appeared on my dash board intermittently for about a week before it came on and stayed on permanently. I returned to the dealer to have them run a system check and was informed that the issue was a sensor was triggered due to a faulty passenger seat belt assembly and needed to be replaced at the cost of approximately $400!!! I informed the dealer that the airbag light did not come on until after they supposedly worked on or checked the airbag system due to the recall in the 1st place. I was told that this had nothing to do with the recall issue and that I would have to pay at my expense because it was not covered by warranty. Because I did not have $400 just laying around to spend, the problem has not been fixed yet and now my vehicle has failed the safety inspection due to the airbag issue!!! if Hyundai has a manufacturing defect should it not be their responsibility to inspect it to see if the recall is applicable instead of charging the customer for it? secondly, if this investigation proves that Hyundai has installed defective safety equipment in these vehicles across the board, shouldn't every customer who had to pay out of pocket expense to have the seat belts replaced be fully reimbursed?.
Driver side airbag light has been illuminated since I purchased it 3 years ago. It pulls a b1701 code involving a bad seat belt sensor. $500+ to fix.
Hyundai had recall for airbag light. I took it in for the recall November 2013 and they supposedly fixed the problem. Less than a month later-December 25, 2013 my air bag light went back on. Took it back to dealer who said it's not the airbag problem, but seat belt-code b1706 for passenger seat belt-said the seatbelt needed to be replaced. Asked if this was covered as part of their recall as it seems to be safety issue? I was told no-I was responsible to replace it-approximately $250. 00. Airbag light is now off-seems like it is working, but tech said they did not guarantee the airbag would deploy if in an accident! I told him it should be a safety issue then and they should be responsible for this. He said no--my problem. I have grandchildren who ride in my car sometimes and I have no choice but to fix it, but again-it seems to be related to the air bag recall since it triggers that light and they will not guarantee the airbag will deploy if in an accident--I feel Hyundai should be responsible for this. If people do not fix this and have an accident, there could be a loss of lives due to this problem. I feel Hyundai should be responsible-seems to be a large defect from what I see on line-lots of problems with airbags/seat belts.
Air bag light stayed on at all times, with and without passenger present. Dealer claimed it was not related to ongoing recall, but driver side seatbelt pretensioner, which was replaced for $267. A half year later, the light came back on and stayed on, intermittently. Dealer checked it out, but on that occasion the light stayed turned off. However, when I drove out of the dealer's lot it turned back on and has stayed on since. I have tried to ignore it, but the recent recalls make me verey nervous.
