4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

The vehicle would randomly accelerated without warning. During the failure, the rpms would increase and the vehicle would lunge forward. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The contact would have to apply extra force to the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from accelerating around 70000 on car. It has a jerk when I am accelerating until I get to a faster speed. But it doesn't accelerate on its own. . I was string at a lightor whenever I go to stop it accelerates on its own. Sometimes while I'm driving it seems to pick up speed on its own as well.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Esc light comes on indicating the esc system is inoperable. This is usually preceded by the feeling that the brakes are being applied without my pressing the brake pedal. The vehicle feels sluggish following the illumination of the esc light. This is an intermittent problem.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

While trying to park my 2007 Hyundai Sonata the automatic transmission shifter was stuck in drive and can only be moved into neutral. Leading up to this happening the esc light kept coming on and eventually stayed permanently on. I later found out that my break light was also off. I am able to move the shifter by pressing down the bypass. As it is in order to take the car out of park I have to press down the bypass. I have to do the same when going from drive to reverse or from reverse to drive. Break light still not working and esc light is on.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I was parking the car (going about 5 mph ) at the food market , had coasted into the space and was using the brake ready to totally stop at the cement stop block. . Suddenly the motor sounded like a racecar and the car lurched forward and up over the cement stop block into the concrete wall /column where it stopped ! I was so fortunate to be in that parking space in front of the wall or I would have gone straight into the glass wall of the market !!several people ran out of the market to help me out of the car. There was steam coming from under the hood and some liquid was draining under the front of the car. . Someone decided to call the fire dept. . Because they thought it was gasoline. . Someone else suggested that I turn off the motor because it was still running. . I could not shift the car so I could not get the key out. The gear shift was stuck and would not work . We decided to leave it alone until the tow truck arrived . I was really reluctant to do too much because it was on a slight slant and I thought it might start moving again. Noone else was in the car. The skin on my knee was scraped and my knee felt a little sore. . . No major injuries. Just very shaken!!. The car was towed to a repair shop and my insurance company will schedule an inspector for the repair order. I am in no hurry to get it back. I'm feeling very nervous about driving it again. . . . Affected parts? ( item on this form) I can see that the hood and the front bumper are damaged. . Fluid and steam came from somewhere under the hood so maybe the radiator or hoses are also damaged. I am not a mechanic and I don't have the report yet but something else is going on if the car makes a racing car noise and then moves forward quickly. The mileage is only 35,584. . A 2007 Hyundai Sonata. . I have pictures if you need them.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

I was just driving to work and the esc off light came on, the only way I have been able to get it to go off is to restart the car. One of the times I had trouble getting the car in to park but after playing around with the brake petal it final allowed me to shift. It has been happening randomly, I had it check for error codes and nothing could be found.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

During a snow storm, I was attempting to make a stop. My brakes would not engage (as if something was keeping the brake shoes from engaging onto the wheel). There also was a loud clatter. I disengaged my electronic stability control and was only then able to apply the brakes. Today I took my vehicle in for service and was told that the stop switch needed to be replaced. I saw Hyundai had a recall NHTSA campaign #: 09v-122 which was published April 15, 2009. . According to my VIN history, my stop lamp switch had been previously replaced on 4/4/09 by malone Hyundai. I contacted Hyundai corporation and asked if perhaps my stop switch, since being replaced before the recall, might have been replaced with also a defective stop switch. The case manager told me that the 5 year, 60,000 mile warrantee on parts was 5 years, 60,000 miles from the time the vehicle was first driven new off the lot and Hyundai would not replace my defective stop switch unless I took the vehicle to a certified Hyundai dealership and they could certify that my switch was installed incorrectly. On safercar. Gov, you have several documents published related to this recall. In the document entitled "owner notification letter", page 2 which is a notification to Hyundai dealership & service managers dated 6/24/2009, paragraph 5 says: "all Hyundai dealers will be shipped a supply of stop lamp switches. . . " which implies all existing stock of these switches were potentially defective! your assistance is greatly appreciated in getting Hyundai to take responsibility for this defect!.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

While operating my 2007 Hyundai Sonata, I experienced sudden unintended acceleration (sua) whcih resulted in an accident of moderate property damage and no injuries. I had pulled to a curbside to park, and had stopped approximately 8 feet behind a large SUV. As I began to raise my foor off the gas pedal, the engine started to accelerate. I applied the brakes which initially began to hold the car which was starting to move forward, but as the acceleration increased, the brakes became unable to hold the car, and it lurched forward and struck the unoccupied SUV. Even though my car only accelerated and traveled 8 feet, the impact was strong enough to cause $6000 worth of damage (actual allowance by insurance company). I've since found out that the hydraulic breaking system and the electronic throttling system are inversely connected to the vacuum generated by the car's engine which means that braking power decreases as throttle increases. Cause of the sua has not been determined. After I got the car repaired, I took it to Hyundai and they were very consiliatory but after checking it for an hour, state that they were unable to recreate the condition and that they did a complete safety check and scanned all the electronic systems to no avail. I had never experienced this condition in the past in this vehicle, however, I had experienced it 3 times in my wife's 2003 Hyundai sante fe. In those situations, there was not anything directly in front of me, and I was able to shift into neutral and regain control of the vehicle.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

Extreme brake wear on Hyundai Sonata 2007. I had to replace brakes and rotors in 2008 and now I have to replace the brakes again. This is unusually high wear especially for a new vehicle that has been drive mainly on the highway.

The contact stated she had to replace the rotors previously. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 17,237 and current mileage was 28,900.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2010

The rear brakes of my 2007 Hyundai Sonata have had to be replaced. The car had 14453 miles on it when this happened. I am not a compulsive braker, and the front brakes are just fine. Could this be an issue with all Hyundai rear brakes??.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2010

Rear brakes need replacing at 27,000 miles? I was notified by Hyundai that my rear brakes needed replacing and they had to re-surface the rotors. I am looking online, and there are so many people with rear brake problems at low mileage - Hyundai won't cover it under warranty. This is a safety issue and should be investigated. Thanks!.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2010

Every time the brake pedal is pressed the car seems to power down. The headlights dim, dash lights dim, fan slows, and inside car lights dim. This happens everytime it's pressed. The lights seem to dim more if you are driving at a faster pace and press harder on the brakes verse driving slowly and easing onto the brake pedal. The battery has been replaced and checked over several times for any sort of defect. Also the alternator has been replaced recently and checked over for any defects. These were replaced because they were thought to be the problem but the problem still occurs everyday everytime the brake pedal is pressed.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata with only 28,000 miles. I had to have the front brakes completely replaced due to dirt causing rust and scored. I believe the car's brakes has a design error and a potentially fatal flaw in the braking system design and operation.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2009

2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS w/17,000 miles. Car has been serviced either by dealer or by car-x every 3,000 miles since purchase Aug. Of 07. Upon bringing the vehicle in for service at 17,286 miles(tire rotation, oil, lube, & filter) mechanic noticed left rear brakes were completely gone right down to the metal. Upon inspection of remaining 3 wheels he found they were in excellent condition pertaining to the mileage on the vehicle. I took the damaged parts to the dealership and the service manager did not even acknowledge my complaint of only 1 wheel having a problem. When I returned home I called Hyundai in calif. And told them about my problem. She asked questions and was courteous but I could tell she knew about the brake problem on this vehicle . She called me back the next day (Aug. 27th) ,and informed me she called 2 of the dealerships I had the vehicle serviced at and they said the brakes were checked???? she then informed me the service mgr. Said I did not have a legitimate complaint and could do nothing for me. I was told this problem was definitely a safety issue and had that wheel locked up from the damaged brake pad it could have caused an accident. I'm hoping you can do something for me in this matter as Hyundai will not.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2009

Rear brakes ceased (left side) which causes pad to wear out and need replacement at 22,000 miles!! not covered under warranty. . . . Charged me $173. 95 +tax to repair.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

I own a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. Have had same issue with brakes as reported many times by others in this forum, with Hyundai refusing to take responsibility. Finally have canadian motor vehicle arbitration plan willing to set up arbitration with Hyundai. Looking for someone with similar problem willing to come to toronto area as witness. If my arbitration successful, this may be a good step toward getting Hyundai to cover repairs for all.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2008

I brought my 2007 Sonata into the dealer to get it inspected the first year with 17,000 miles on it and have a noise from the wheels looked at and it had to have new brakes. I was astonished that after 17,000 miles I needed a $600 plus brake job, but the warranty covered it. Five months later the noise came back and I brought it in again, and was told that I needed to have my brakes taken apart, cleaned out and lubed ($150) or I would need new brakes again in a few months. I was appalled and asked the mechanic how a new car could possibly need new brakes once a year? I have never replaced brakes on any of my cars before at least 70,000 miles, so I know as the sole driver of the car that I'm not causing premature wear by my driving. He explained to me that the new Hyundai brakes are great except in the northeast where they corrode very quickly from the salt, and that if I don't have them cleaned and lubed ($150) at least once a year I will need to have them replaced every year. I did pay to have them cleaned and lubed, but this is crazy. They obviously are selling cars with defective brakes if they will only last for one year. I then asked around to the 4 other people who I knew who also had newer Hyundai's (3 Sonata's and one elantra) and they said they also had to have their brakes replaced before 20,000 miles. Since the brakes are only under warranty up to 25,000 miles I am now looking at having to pay several hundred dollars a year to keep the car with brakes, so I'm thinking I should take the loss and trade it in.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2008

Both of my visors have never stayed up, they are always down in my line of vision this probably started 6 months after I had the car. I took it to the dealer they stated it was not covered. A few years back the drivers side air bag light came on and is still on. The passengers air bag comes on and goes off regularly. My back break lights have had to be replaces several times, something is wrong with them. Again the dealer wanted to charge me to replace them after my husband had just replaced them. There are so many parts that are falling apart. The gear shift has broken and the back handles on the outside of the car are broken. My brakes rotate and the whole care shakes when I press on the breaks on the freeway. Now my back end is making noises. I bought this car new , but will never buy another car from Hyundai again, this is the worst car I have ever had. From the beginning I have had problems and the dealer never wanted to fix anything unless I payed for it. I am not paying for things that I did not break. .
