The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the sun visor failed to close and opened independently, obstructing the contact's visibility while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000.
Passenger side sun visor won't stay up. Hangs straight down into the line of driver's vision.
Driver side sun visor no longer stays in up position, drooping down into field of view. It appears there has already been a recall for this but only for southern and western states. This is a known issue and it is easy to find multiple complaints on line about this issue. Clear safety issue that should not be limited to only southern states and low mileage vehicles.
Driver and passenger side sun visor won't stay up/ no tension. Hangs straight down and swings freely into the line of driver's vision.
Traveling to florida drivers sunvisor would not stay in position impairing vision and almost causing an accident also passenger sunvisor wont stay in up position. Contacted Hyundai dealership gave them VIN # they told me there was no recall on this safety issue. Did some research there is a technical service bulletin # 09-01-032 dated November 9 states if you bring your vehicle in for service under warranty they will replace both sunvisors only under warranty also only in certain states also manufacture dates 6 March 07 to Jan 10 08 my vehicle falls between those manufacture dates but is over on the mileage also many postings online with same problems! im requesting a mandatory recall due to Hyundai has knowledge of this safety problem and is not voluntarily fixing all affected vehicles , I request that a mandatory recall is issued for the safety of the general public.
The driver's side visor broke and now hangs down, significantly obstructing driver's view.
The passenger side sun visor will not stay up on its own. It dropped into my side view and blocks visibility. Looking on-line this seems to be a chronic issue on both driver and passenger sides and could cause a crash. Hyundai refuses to replace at their cost as this is a one year wear item.
On my 2008 Hyundai Sonata - first my passenger side and now my driver's side sun visor does not stay in position. No matter how you manipulate the visors (all the way up, or attempting to block the sun) it falls to the same position which impairs the drivers view of the road. I have had to safety pin my visor to the roof of the car, which is unsafe when driving into the sun. This has been a problem in previous model years and Hyundai needs to do something to remediate this problem, regardless of the mileage on the car. I've also read that even if you get them fixed, they continue to break down the road.
Sun visor will not stay up. Falls down exactly at the height of my forehead so that if I get in a wreck, my forehead will exactly hit the "edge" of the visor and crush my forehead. Since the direction of impact against the visor is exactly in the direction of the width of the visor, major fatality would occur. (think of hitting your head against the "side" of a piece of cardboard - no harm done. Now think of hitting your head against the "edge" or end of the cardboard - major damage to your forehead.
Passenger side visor started to fall down obstructing vision. Dealership replaced the visor and now the driver side visor is doing the same thing obstructing the vision of the driver while driving causing a safety issue.
Sun visor will not stay up or in any position reliably. The sun visor drops down constantly with any vibration during normal driving. Sun visor droops or drops down at any time obstructing the drivers view of the road.
Driver and passenger visor falls down and blocks vision.
While attempting to use the sun-visor by pulling it down, the visor would not move, then made a popping sound. The visor then sagged, and will not return to the upright position. After research, I see that there have been many other similar complaints, especially in states with hot/humid conditions, such as where I live (in mississippi). The visor will not stay in any position except straight down, and impedes visibility, and becomes a hazard when getting into the vehicle.
The passenger side sun visor will not stay up and is a danger because it hangs down in view. Its in the arm where something is broken, needs replaced.
The driver side visor started falling down by itself when you hit a bump or just for no reason falling down hitting me in the head and blocking view unexpectantly. Now it no longer stays up can no longer use have taped up.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the sun visor failed and separated from the holder. The air bag warning light also failed and the warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer replaced the sun visor and advised that the passenger side air bag sensor failed, but the passenger seat would need to be replaced because the sensor could not be removed. The air bag failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 92, 5000.
Moved driver's side visor to block sun and now visor will not stay up and hangs straight down and partially blocks driver's view of highway and oncoming traffic which I fell is a serious safety hazard. Problem has not been corrected.
Drivers sun visor will not stay up and just dangles at eye level. Very dangerous as your vision is blocked by the visor.
Driver's side sun visor flops down in front of the driver's eyes.
While driving on the interstate the driver's side sun visor was pulled down, the visor could not be returned to the up position. The visor is in line of sight of the driver. I replaced the driver's side sun visor and now the passenger side sun visor is doing the same thing. A week ago the esc off light turned on and now it turns on randomly but resets it self when car is turned off.
The drivers side sun visor keeps falling down hindering visibility. The visior does not stay up even after trying to force it. Looks like a manufacturing defect where regular use of visor wears out the spring/assembly.
Driver's side sun visor will not stay in place. It will not stay in the up position or the fully forward position. It hangs in my line of sight and makes driving dangerous.
Passenger-side visor made a cracking noise when it was pulled down, now it will not stay up all the way; it just hangs halfway down.
Driver's side sun visor on 2008 Hyundai Sonata has suddenly lost ability to stay up. It droops so sun visor is in driver's line of site. Drooping sun visor also is very near driver's head. Making impact with edge of visor highly likely in a crash.
The driver's side sun visor made a cracking noise and will not come down anymore. It does not stay in the full upright position either.
I have a Hyundai Sonata 2008 4 door GLS full size sedan 6 cylinder VIN: [xxx] the driver side sun visor , when taken out to protect when driving east in the morning or west in the evening to and from work, just hangs , and does not go back up to its socket or go all the way down against the window. It just hangs blocking the eye view of the road ahead. I had to practically catch the visor against my head or hold it with one hand to complete the trip this is a safety hazard. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2008 hyndai Sonata limited. Drivers side visor no longer stays up. Cracking noise heard when it was moved and it then will only hang down. It obstructs your field of vision and could easily be a safety issue. Have researched on the internet and found many other instances of the same thing.
My 2008 Sonata's driver side sun visor will no longer stay up and secure and is always moving suddenly or "floating" into a position that obscures my view often. I purchased the vehicle in Dec. 2009 and the incident occurs in June 2010. I have not yet contacted a dealer for replacement or maintenance out of concern it will cost me an arm and a leg to fix.
Pulled down the passenger side sun visor in a normal manner, heard a crack and a piece of the plastic clip fell down. Totally a poorly made visor and this is a major inconvenience to anyone who has the unfortunate pleasure of sitting there. The visor is currently rigged with a rubber band to keep it from flopping. The dealer has offered to fix it for $100 plus dollars and also suggested going to a junk yard to find a replacement visor! poor, poor service & quality! I want this replaced at no charge despite my the expiration of my warranty as I see by searching NHTSA that many have experienced this issue! thank you!.
2008 Hyundai Sonata. At 20,000 miles the driver's side visor started to sag, and not return to its full upright folded position. At 40,000 miles it fully failed, in the fully down position it blocks a tall persons field of vision. I resorted to sewing velcro to to the visor and ceiling to hold the visor in place. Now at 60,000 miles the passenger visor is starting to droop, and not return to the full upright position. The passenger visor is used a fraction of the amount of the driver visor; therefore is experiencing the problem later. It appears that inferior springs have been used. Online formums indicate this problem going back to 2006 models.
I have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The sun visors continue to fall down or sag. I've had both visors replaced within the last year and half. Luckily, my car was still under warranty. However, they have failed again since then, and now my Sonata is out of warranty (I have exceeded 60k miles). My research shows that the visor tension rod loses tension over time and eventually fails resulting in visor sag. Obviously this is an ongoing problem because the replacement visors haven't been re-engineered, this according to a Hyundai rep. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see the hazard here -- the visor can block the driver's view or worse scalp you if in an accident. What does Hyundai do? they check your warranty status and replace it with same defective part, or worse, if out of warranty, they offer to sell you a replacement at $85. 00. Really!! the dealerships claim no responsibility as does apparently the Hyundai corporation, which should be investigated by the NHTSA for failure to acknowledge a recall. How many complaints does it take? and why are Hyundai consumers stuck paying for a safety defect that is unambiguously clear? if you don’t believe me, talk to any owner of an ’06, ’07, or ’08 Sonata. This is really upsetting to me because I thought Hyundai was doing a good job. Now, I'm having second thoughts. Issue a recall already!! the p/n for the right side visor is 85202 0a750qdqqh by Hyundai America. I don't have the option to select that under the equipment tab so I posted it here.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. While traveling at speeds of 35 mph, the drivers side sun visor suddenly fell into the contacts line of vision. The dealer advised the sun visor would need to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 72000.
Normal use has caused the driver's side sun visor on my 2008 Hyundai Sonata to not hold its position. It will not remain in place whether it is placed in the upright or down position. Further, while operating the vehicle, the sun visor will drop suddenly and obstruct the driver's view. It has also hit me in the head while operating the vehicle.
I purchased my 2008 Sonata on March 11, 2010 about two months later the drivers side visor came down and will not go back up in its original position. It hangs in my line of vision making it very difficult to see. Sometimes I have to hold it up manually and that in itself is very dangerous. I heard this is not covered nor is it a recall through the manufacturer. This is definitely going to cause an accident and I sure hope there are no serious injuries or deaths due to something that could have been and should have been recalled a long time ago seeing how many complaints there are about the same problem. It might seem minuet to the manufacture but to the people who are driving it, it is very dangerous and scary. I am at the point where I dread getting into the car to drive due to this because it hits me in my forehead and sometimes it hurts and it definitely distracts you. Please be responsible for the defect and have it recalled and fixed correctly for all of our sakes, lets not wait for a tragedy.
Driver side sunvisor failure on my 2008 Hyundai Sonata 22908 miles. It began with a week of 'cracking' when I used it until it finally broke today. It won't stay up or down completely and it is affecting my field of vision. It is just flopping in the middle. I have moved it to the side but it is still affecting my field of vision.
