2 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2022

I have several recalls on my vehicle and the dealership only scrub and they did not replace the crossmember and other parts. I need help to see if this is ok.

3 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

In the last three months, both driver's side door handles have fallen off/broken. In the first incident (sept 2020), the driver's side rear door handle broke off the car when I tried to open the door. In the second incident (Nov 2020), the driver's side front door handle remained on the car but broke so that it no longer functions. Both incidences occurred when the vehicle was stationary. It is unknown why the door handles broke; I did not use excessive force nor was there any indication of a problem prior to these incidences.

4 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2020

Last month, the door handle to the door behind the driver seat was broken. When I tried to open my door, it did not open. That is in the picture attached. On Saturday, I opened my driver's door and the door handle broke in my hand. Now I have only tow doors that I can open. I looked online and many people are having issues with the Hyundai Sonata. I feel like customers should not pay for this because this a known safety issue. When this happened, my car was parked. I am going to Hyundai to get this repaired because I am scared that I will not be able to get in my car if all the handles gets like this.

5 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

Driver's exterior door latch broke into two when driver attempted to open door with hand to enter the car. The door had been unlocked via remote control.

6 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2020

Door handles fall off. Theyve already been replaced 8 times in the last 3 years. I have now lost two more handles which at 58$ a piece, I am becoming frustrated that I cannot get in my car quickly god forbid something happens, nor get to my baby in the back seat quickly as I have to roll down the windows, run around the vehicle to open the door. I have seen 2011 Hyundai Sonatas recall the handles, however mine is a 2010 and this should be replaced by Hyundai as it has become a nuisance.

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2020

Rear passenger door handle (exterior) broken - February 2020. All 4 door handles have broken on this car between 2015-2020! Hyundai paid for the first 1 but for the 2nd and 3rd told me, essentially, "too bad, door handles break. " apparently they do on 2010 Hyundai Sonata's as there are many complaints online and all 4 door handles broke on my car. That is ridiculous. I expect Hyundai to cover this one. The car has 66k miles on it. It does not get heavy use. The first 5 years, I took public transportation to work, then started working from home. There is no reason for the passenger side handles to break. The driver's door handle got normal use; nothing excessive or unusual.

8 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2019

Door handles easily snapped off and sensor went out fuel tank. This happening on all cars I have 5 CO workers same vehicles all have same promblem this should be fixed we cant enter in rear of car without getting in front to open both back doors.

9 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2019

I have had three exterior door handles brake off the door on three different occasions. . The entire handle broke off upon getting to get into the car. One handle broke while under warranty, the other two broke on may 5, 2019. And June 22, 2019.

10 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

When we first purchased this car in 2010, a door handle fell off in the first couple of months. Hyundai replaced it free of charge. Fast forward to 2019. Car has only 45,000 miles and in the span of 2 weeks, the exterior rear right passenger and the driver side handles came off. This occurred when opening the doors. While we have a 10 year/100,000 warranty, Hyundai will not honor replacing the defect. Estimated repairs are near $500. This is obviously a safety issue with the driver's side inoperable and requiring driver to climb into car. We see many online complaints regarding this issue and are disappointed with Hyundai for not standing behind their product. We purchased this car because of reliability and trust and went on to purchase 2 more Hyundai vehicles. We keep our cars for a long time - up to 200,000 miles and have never had handles fall off.

11 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

Door handles ccs me right off. Had to replace all of them.

12 Body problem

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the both rear door handles fell off. They also stated that the drivers side door handle is becoming loose too. The vehicle was taken to their local mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed. . . . New handles are needed for the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 170,000. Jw.

14 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

"takata recall" Sonata door handles break for no reason. In an emergency, first responders would be unable to open the doors to evacuate passengers. This has happened to 3 of my 4 doors: car is parked. I unlock car with key in door. I push unlock button. Doors unlock. Passenger uses outside handle, but handle does not respond. Door handle is broken inside the door. Car has always been parked in driveway or parking lot when this happens. No one has jerked the handle or pulled on it roughly when it broke. In all three instances a simple lift on the handle and it broke.

15 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

Hyundai Sonata 2010 - the front, driver side door handle detached from the car, without warning, when attempting to open the door. The vehicle was stationary at the time that the incident occurred. A standard amount of door opening force was applied to the handle when attempting to open the door. The damage appears to have occurred with a weakened or defective clip that connects the door handle to the opening mechanism inside of the door. This is the second door handle on the driver's side that has detached from the vehicle, without warning leaving only 2 functional door handles on the vehicle.

16 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2018

Plastic exterior door handles break, come loose, and then can not open the door. 3 door handles now.

17 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

Went to open outside passenger back door - outside door handle fell off. Went to open outside driver's door - outside door handle fell off.

18 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

Handles keep falling off in my hand when opening doors. This is at least the fourth time since l have this car. Read some other complaints on your website, sounds like defective part issue to me. Last ,time dealer charged me $90. 00 to repair and it fell off next day. Now rear passenger fell off. I am 75 years old, need doors to open and close, very scary. Is that too much to ask of a $23,000 car?.

19 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2018

I had to replace the driver & passenger door handles. Had to get switch to open gas tank repaired. When fueling car, pump continuesly stops when tank is not full.

20 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

Front passenger door handle broke off while opening door to enter the vehicle. Went on-line to research repair. Found that this is a very common problem on all 4 doors of this vehicle. Subsequent failures on other handles tend to happen within months of one-another. Doors that are infrequently used also have the problem. This poses a serious safety issue when removing an infant, sick, or injured person from the vehicle during an emergency. The handles are made of plastic. The inner front of the handle has a plastic pivot which snaps off, causing the handle to fall off in the hand of the person opening the door.

21 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2018

In the last 2 years, I have had all 4 of the door handles break off in someone's hand, when attempting to open the door. I have had 2 of them replaced already, costing about $150 - 200 each. At this time, both of my rear door handles are broken off.

22 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

3 outside door handles fell off my car while it was under warranty. The last one, the drivers door, has just now fallen off, out of warranty. Question - why did the one with the most use fall off last? Hyundai 800-633-5151 refuses to take action on the 4th replacement. This obviously warrants a recall because something is defective with every one.

23 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2018

Takata recall. . . I have a complaint on the paint on my car. I have never had a problem with paint on a car like this one. It seemed to be so cheap that even a sticking tape will rip off the paint.

24 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2018

Within the last several weeks, 2 of the 4 exterior door handles have broken off in my hand. The vehicle was stationary in both cases. In the normal course of opening the door, the door handle broke and the door would not open.

25 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2017

"handle issue" my vehicle has around 74k miles on it and so far every handle has broken off in the winter. After the first handle broke I was more careful during the winter on opening the doors. This is not a cheap fix.

26 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2017

Three exterior door handles have come off in the past two years. Two came off in passenger's hands (gentle pull) and one fell off the car at unknown time. The car had only about 62,500 miles on it when the last one came off.

27 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

I replaced the passenger side rear door handle a month ago because it broke off when I was opening the door to let my child out and now the driver side rear door handle broke off when I was opening the door for my child. Very dangerous as I was in both instances helping my young child out of the car. This is a safety recall issue. In my driving years, which spans 34 year and countless vehicles, I have never had a door handle malfunction let alone break off. I have owned ehicles for 13-15 years typically and had no instances of door handle malfunctioning or breaking off. The repair costs $130 or so for each door handle, but more important is my lack of confidence that it may happen again and it may be an emergency situation. Nhtsa please ensure Hyundai is held accountable and required to design a fix for this issue and offer a refund to already repaired door handles.

28 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2017

I have a Hyundai 2010 and in one years time both rear door handles have broken off. I am in the process of repairing the second one and the first cost me $160. Not only is this an inconvenience when trying to get my children out, but this is a huge safety risk if there ever were an accident. This should be recalled and I would be looking for a refund.

29 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

Door handles fall off. I have replaced 3 of 4 handles so far. Rear drivers side replaced but is not opening now. Drivers door opens sometimes and sometimes not. This occurs when the vehicle is stationary. It costs $140 per unit.

30 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2017

On two separate occasions while the car was stationary, the door handles of the front passenger and left rear doors came off in my hand while opening the doors. I was then unable to open the door to let my elderly passenger out of the car.

31 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2017

Our 2010 Hyundai Sonata's outside door handle just fell off right in my hand. I researched online and found that this is a common complaint with the 2010 model. This should be considered a safety hazard and a recall should be issued by the manufacturer. If we are in a car accident and the handle falls off the person that is trying to help us this is a safety issue. All we were doing was trying to open the door to get my son out of his car seat and it fell off right in our hands. Unacceptable.

32 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2017

Exterior door handles are breaking off when used to enter the vehicle. Vehicle was stationary in my driveway. Thus far, the drivers side rear and the passenger side front handles have broken off. Vehicle mileage was in the 75k to 78k mile range. I am reading that this is a very common problem on this vehicle and that it is an expensive repair (estimated $200). I believe that this is a safety problem as entry to the vehicle in an emergency is compromised.

33 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

The drivers side rear door handle came off in my hand a year ago. Now the driver side front door handle did the same thing.

34 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

The outer door handles are weak and break off easily. This vehicle has had three broken handles, and the fourth one is about to break. It happens when you try to open the door. My concern is that in the event of an accident, the handle might break off when emergency responders try to open the door, delaying or preventing needed help. Research shows that this is a very common problem with these vehicles.

35 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

Hyundai Sonata 2010 - the rear, driver side door handle detached from the car, without warning, when attempting to open the door. The vehicle was stationary and parked in front of a house when the incident occurred. A standard amount of door opening force was applied to the handle when attempting to open the door. The damage appears to have occurred with a weakened or defective clip that connects the door handle to the opening mechanism inside of the door.
