1 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Ever since I had a new engine put in my car, my car hasn't been the same. It acts like it doesn't want to go when pressing the gas pedal right after (was told it was the eco mode), then my dash started to crack, now is extremely cracked which has an air bag, gas gage has a mind of its own, burning a severe amount of oil a week so there is no point in changing the oil, oil light never once comes on letting me know its low, no oil on my driveway or under the hood, interior dome light sometimes doesn't shut off, the brake lights short out on a monthly basis and get pulled over by the cops all the time. Now with only 50,000 miles on the new engine, I take it back to the dealership because its smoking when I crank it, doesn't accelerate sometimes going down the road when I press the gas, then starts smoking, headlights flicker, engine light stays on and low tire light stays on (even after getting new tires & alignment). Took it in yesterday, Hyundai is stating my oxygen sensors, catalytic converter & gaskets and intake manifold need to be replaced at $3,177. The car isn't even worth that much. This is not the reason why my car is using excessive amounts of oil, smoking when I crank it and acts like the engine is about to blow up. Then they come back to tell me it needs the above, plus an engine replacement but out of goodwill they will only charge me 20% ($2,000) with no loaner car. Its going on 3 weeks now. The corporate office is useless and very rude. I have a voicemail stating this is the highest customer service department and once the decision has be made, those decisions are fianl and its up to you to decline or accept our offer. it's the engine, again! which then lead to other issues! I will never buy another Hyundai again!! this car has caused nothing but money and time, complete waste of junk!.

My 2011 Hyundai Sonata while driving on road - perhaps over 50 mph, it turns on the esc mode in the car, and the engine slows down automatically. 8 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

I never received information regarding the recalls on my Hyundai Sonata 2011 vehicle. I was driving my Hyundai Sonata 2011 on 4/11/19, going about 60 miles an hour and the cut shut off. Was in heavy congested traffic and I was almost rear ended with no control of the Hyundai Sonata 2011vehicle. My Hyundai Sonata 2011 was moved to the side of the road where a tow truck was called. Subsequently, Hyundai Sonata 2011was taken to the huntington dealership. Dealer informed me there was 7 recalls of which I not aware of in regards Hyundai Sonata 2011 this could have been a life threaten situation and Hyundai should notified me of all recalls. This is unacceptable and life threating to family friends and community.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

I have had issue after issue with my 2011 Sonata. In just a year and a half I have had 5 things fixed or replaced 2 of them major. I've had the whole break assembly fixed for my break lights not working. Most recently I had to have the engine replaced due to it seizing up with just barely over 100k miles. Then 3 months after that I'm having issues with the cruise randomly turning off, the break lights not working. Also the gear shifter will not go into gear at times. One of the major issues ive had is the engine randomly stalling or the accelerator nor working at all. The issue ive had with the cruise control will randomly happen whether I'm moving or in park and during this is also effects the stability control as well and it will turn its self off. With the car stalling, it randomly happens whether I'm at a traffic light trying to accelerate or while I'm driving.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2018

Recently, I started to document soon as I can remember the time and date of the incident because it caused such as panic while I am driving on the highway. After April 27, 2018, esc malfunction indicator and check engine lights have come on and off. Since then it's more often within the last 6 months. Few times on the highway, car started to slow down (losing power) and need immediately pull over to avoid any accident. After sat and waited few minutes restarted the engine both lights disappeared. September 05 2018, esc malfunction indicator light came on in the morning, went home and left the vehicle sitting over night. Esc malfunction lights are disappeared. September 06 2018, esc malfunction indicator light came on and off in the afternoon. September 07 2018, around noon parked at home driveway after grocery shopping, suddenly engine stalled, having difficult to start the engine again and esc malfunction indicator light stayed on.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2018

I bought a used 2011 Hyundai Sonata in March for my birthday, and about 3 months ago, the steering wheel started shaking violently any time I got to 60mph or higher. Upon further investigation, I found out I needed a new steering coupler. Before it got fixed, my dome lights, and all of the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel (trip, cruise control) stopped working. After being fixed, none of the above mentioned things work, but also now,my power locks, dash clock and horn stopped working. I almost got hit by another driver a few days ago, and didnt even have a horn to honk!.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2018

When driving on the interstate my car continues to jerk like I hit something and the immobilizer indicator light flashes on and off. I have changed the battery in the key fob but this still happens at least once a day. The car jerks very hard like you hit a wall.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2018

Last week I was driving and the esc indicator light randomly came on on my dashboard. Later, after I tried to shut it off by pressing the esc button which did not work, I tried to adjust the volume on my radio using the steering wheel controls. Instead of adjusting the volume down it went to the bluetooth for my cell phone. Next day no further issues. No warning/indicator lights came on, car functioned normally. Two days later esc light came back on. Stopped at the store and when I came back out I noticed my brake lights were on. Drove home, parked in the driveway and again, brake lights remained on even after car was off, lights were turned to the off position and there was no possible way for them to remain on. Had to disconnect my battery for the night. Next day noticed recall for 2011 Sonatas for the same issue. Called Hyundai and they stated my VIN is not part of the recall, so they can't do anything for me. This is after Hyundai refused to acknowledge their engine defects in the same vehicle. I was one of the first affected by the engine blowing out and was refused warranty service. I had to sue Hyundai and it was not until they openly acknowledged engine failures that they finally honored my warranty and replaced my engine. I was without my vehicle for over a year during that process. My point is that Hyundai has a history, and documented track record, of ignoring customer concerns and complaints. They regularly neglect the consumer and leave us to make due with a defective car. They refuse, yet again, to honor a known safety issue with their vehicle.

19 Electronic Stability Control problem

The horn is a safety feature and it doesn't work all the time. More times not than working properly. Living in atlanta this is a serious issue.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

I have had two separate incidents where my vehicle's engine completely lose power while driving. There is no warning and the steering locks up and my car is immediately disabled each time I came extremely close to being hit by on coming traffic. With the incident the car suddenly start slowing down and when I pressed the gas pedal nothing happened but all the sensors popped up I was able to pull over just as it lost power and the car wouldn't restart and I had it towed. Few days later car started as if nothing happened I began to drive it again but after about a week I was on the highway during morning rush hour attempted to cross lanes and it suddenly lost power again and I couldn't move the vehicle at all I feel very unsafe driving the car beacuse this happens randomly and without warning.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2017

Transmission replaced. . Starter taking more battery power to start car so starter was replaced then catastrophic engine failure. After replacement of engine- it was found that there is an electrical short that will not allow the alternator to remain charged. When the engine failed we were driving 68mph on the highway all lights, dummy lights and the power to the car started to flash, increase then decrease quickly then again and again. . Thumping noise lights continued to flash/on off/etc car lost power engine died. The dealership is now saying that I am responsible for paying for diagnostics to find the underlying cause of electrical short . . I am responsible for any electrical repair that needs to happen. Electrical system was not faulty prior to engine failure. Hyundai should be responsible for finding the issue and correcting the problem. . The car had no alternator charging issues prior to the engine failure. A total of $13,800 has been spent on repairs and the car is still non functional. This is just not right.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem

29 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2016

During my last scheduled vehicle maintenance in April 2016, I explicitly communicated my concerns to the Hyundai dealer about my engine and the fact that the oil light kept coming on when I tried to accelerate and would go off as soon as I took my feet off the accelerator. I just found out through local news and information from online blogs that this was a sign of engine manufacturing problems originating from Hyundai's alabama engine manufacturing plant. The dealer did not inform me that the engine in my vehicle was being recalled. Instead, I was told via the maintenance report that oil level was low and there were no visible leaks. I have receipts to prove that I adhered to all recommended owner maintenance services and have been diligent enough to service my vehicle according to the service schedule prescribed during vehicle purchase. I have strong reasons to believe Hyundai has not been honest with its customer. This being because, rather than elaborate on the cause and solution to the problem (I. E. Hyundai Sonata 2011-2012 engine recall), information was deliberately withheld from me by Hyundai. I never received a recall notice from the dealer despite purchasing the vehicle from an authorized Hyundai pre-owned vehicle dealer. I'm even more frustrated because this recall was announced in September 2015, 4 months after I purchased my vehicle under warranty and paid extra to have extended warranty coverage added on my vehicle. It¿s now 7 months after the recall announcement and I still have not received notice of the recall from Hyundai. As of today, 3 weeks after my vehicle stalled on the on-401 highway whilst driving at approx. 100km/hr. , I have not heard back from Hyundai. I had to coast my vehicle to the outside shoulder of the busiest highway in north America at 9:00pm. 3 weeks on, I have no vehicle, no repair timeline and no response from Hyundai.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2015

I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with approximately 65,000 miles. In 2015 the steering wheel locked twice while on but parked. The esc and power steering indicators were on. After a while the issues spontaneously resolved in these instances and the vehicle able to be driven. In October 2015 the power steering locked up while driving the vehicle on a city street (speed <40mph). I was unable to turn the steering wheel and navigate resulting in several near misses with street parked vehicles before being able to stop the vehicle. Car towed to the dealership where they stated that they drove the vehicle around and "recalibrated it. " two months later while again traveling on city streets (<40mph) the steering wheel began to shake violently and I was unable to steer, again almost resulting in a significant crash. During this incident the same ecs and power steering indicators lit up. Unable to steer I was forced to stop and turn off my vehicle in the middle of a busy road. However, once the vehicle was turned off the steering wheel continued to shake violently until someone who came to assist me shut off the car battery. The car was towed to the dealership where upon showing them video the service manager stated he had never seen this occur in his 20 years of employment. The car is scheduled to be assessed on Monday. Internet searches show other videos of this make/model with the same violently shaking wheel and reports of accident close-calls. My specific car was part of an earlier recall (campaign 097) related to power steering that was reportedly fixed at that time, therefore this car clearly has known problems in this domain. I will never get back in this vehicle and will likely lose money on a trade in. There are clearly significant safety issues with this vehicle that have not been resolved by the earlier recall. .
