E-brake was not holding on a slope for about 2-3 days. Took to service station for adjustment. Mechanic adjusted e-brake, but noticed that the left rear steering knuckle was cracked and deemed it was not safe to drive. Had to have the steering knuckle replaced. Took photo of the defective part (attached). Want some reimbursement for the replacement of a part that should not have been cracked (attached invoice). This vehicle has just under 20,000 miles on it.
Was reversing out of my driveway and heard metal clank sound coming from front passenger side. I then kept driving down the block and heard something metal fall on the road. I got out and found a piece of a spring. It had rust on it where it cracked off. Brought to dealer and they said it needed to be replaced and was not covered under any recall. This car model had a recall for the springs (NHTSA campaign number: 15v629000) but for some reason my car was not covered under that recall as per the VIN lookup. Obviously my car has that issue, the only recal similar is the under body corrosion recall, but they told me that this does not cover this type of corrosion.
Takata loud rpm when starting then loud clicking in steering wheel coupler bad now brakes having issues and axles clicking radio goes on and off. Lights keep burning out.
Passenger side coil is broken and rusted. I noticed a rattle or new sound when going over bumps recently.
The steering wheel feels loose and when I try to turn the car acts as if your on ice or like I'm loosing control of steering the vehicle, I was advised by discount tire that the from suspension issue are causing my inner tires to wear and the dealership was only trying to sale me tires for $600 and did not mention any issues with the inner tire on that the tread was a little low. I have been driving on the highway and surface streets when the steering problems occur.
I have excessive free play in my steering wheel while the car is stationary and my steering wheel vibrates and shakes while I drive the at high speeds or changing lanes. Also my suspension feels loose when going over bumpy roads.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While the contact's daughter was driving 20 mph, the vehicle sputtered, made a knocking noise, and lost power. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to southern states Subaru of raleigh (2511 wake forest rd, raleigh, nc 27608 (888) 439-5154) where it was diagnosed with a faulty engine that needed replacement. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine). Upon retrieving the vehicle from the dealer, a clicking sound was heard coming from the steering column and underneath the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact of a recall for the steering coupler, but the vehicle was over the mileage and could not be repaired per the manufacturer recall. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v190000 (steering), but was unsure if the recall was serviced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and reffered the contact to Hyundai awards to repair the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer inquired of an estimate of the repairs. Without an estimate, the contact quoated $500. The vehicle was then taken to johnson Hyundai of cary (5000 old raleigh rd, cary, nc 27511(919) 439-2059) where it was diagnosed with a steering coupler and axle failure. The technician stated that the axle damage occurred at the time of the engine replacement. The contact called the manufacturer again with a more accurate repair cost of $800, and was informed that they would only pay $500 towards the repair. The failure mileage was 90,043.
There is an active campaign 133 about my coil possible fracturing, which mine did im confused to why its not listed as a recall for my car I live an illinois and all other recalls have applie?.
Over the past several months a progressively worsening clunking noise, with a reverberating rattle, has been coming from the front left side of the car when driving over bumps. In addition, the steering column has made progressively worsening clicking noises and became progressively looser when driving over bumps, to the point where the steering wheel would visibly shake back and forth. A Hyundai dealer said that this issue was caused by a failed steering column rubber coupler (a bushing in the steering column), that this issue is well known, and that eventually it would hinder the ability to safely drive the car. Fearing for my safety, I had the dealer replace the coupler at a cost of $375. Given the age of my vehicle and comparatively low mileage I do not believe that this issue reflects normal wear and tear and is instead related to a defective part.
A clunking in the steering wheel when turning. Replaced oem struts, 4 wheel alignment, front rotors turned & resurfaced, tires rotated and balanced. Still clunking in steering.
I have 71,000 miles and was told by Hyundai dealership, I need to replace axle. It is my understanding that I think in 2010 there was a recall, obviously they did not fix the problem. On the internet I am seeing several complaints about the axle on the 2011 Sonata.
Noise from left front of car diagnosed by dealer as "rack and pinion housing worn out" slight vibration in steering column going over bumps.
First this is apart of the campaign 133 recall. A remedy is not available yet I am not willing to pay to correct a design flaw. Regarding the recoil spring issue. Second separate issue all four oxygen sensors went bad at the same time how is that possible.
Recently purchased a vehicle. Didn't get a proper test drive. Turns out the car has major defects especially in the steering. We figured out that this vehicle had defects while in motion on a city street.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v629000 (suspension). The parts needed for the repair were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to provide the repairs. The dealer was unable to verify when the parts would become available. The manufacturer was made aware of the delay. The contact had not experienced a failure.
When doing 70mph and hitting the brakes the front end starts to vibrate, under 70mpn no vibration. Plus my steering wheel making a clicking sound.
I have had issues with this car since I purchased it and purchase the extended warranty however all it has done is help with standard oil changes. The power steering or the steering wheel rather begin making a loud clicking noise when going in reverse it would be more pronounced I took it to the dealership and after two times there they finally said OH it's the left transaxle I took the vehicle home and immediately same sound I took it to capital Hyundai and they said OH it's the right transaxle my tires have worn three times already on the front since I purchased this car in 2014 so I'm going through six tires in three years on the front end in addition to this problem I took the car in because the radio volume up button when I pressed it would initiate the phone functions of the car when I would hit cruise control resume then it would cancel the cruise control completely I told him this and they ended up replacing the left side buttons on my steering wheel but now my cruise control doesn't work at all in addition to this when I plug in iphone charger socket into the power receptacle the radio stops working and has complete interference when I pull it out the interference stops in the radio returns to normal the cooling function of the vehicle is nonexistent it blows hot air regardless until the engine gets really warm then it will blow cool air. As soon as the vehicle stops moving instance if I stop at a red light it begins blowing hot air again. When I had my oil changed in the last time I checked the oil and it was already black I took the car in for these service for the recall for the engine inspection and I feel like Hyundai is going to say there's nothing wrong with the car because they're representing Hyundai. I believe there should be an independent inspection facility to ensure that these engines are up to standard I don't believe my engine is ok.
I purchased this car less than a year ago. The steering wheel is making a clicking noise when moved from left to right and there is a clunking sound coming from the steering column when driving between 10 - 40 mph. When searching online, I have noticed that hundreds of Hyundai owners that have this make and model are experiencing the same issue. I feel unsafe when driving this car, especially when my grandchildren are with me. I understand there was a recall but I was told my car did not qualify. The dealer wants to charge me $100 just to look at it. This is a major safety issue!!!! is Hyundai waiting for someone to be killed before they do something and take responsibility for their cars. I now have 64,000 miles on this car, 4000 over the warranty and Hyundai refuses to fix unless I pay up front. I was told that Hyundai was a very good car but after reading all these horror stories about the steering issues, I will never purchase a Hyundai again. I believe safety comes before money and Hyundai should take responsibility and issue a recall for all 2011 Sonatas. Please help in keeping everyone safe and make Hyundai stand behind their cars and fix these known issues. Thank you.
I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and recently had to have both front axles replaced, as the front end clunked when turning the wheel to park or driving over a pot-hole. The front end made a sound like it was "bottoming out". I was informed by the manager at kerry Hyundai of florence, that there is a recall up to 2010 Sonata's regarding the front axles. I contacted Hyundai regarding replacing the axles as the axles are usually the last part that wears out on an automobile. It cost $640. 76 without tax to have them replaced. Hyundai relayed to me that the highway department handles recalls and referred me back to the dealership (like they are going to refund me)! thanks.
While driving on the highway and attempting to brake the steering wheel shook rapidly. The steering wheel makes a click when in park and I move the steeping wheel slightly off center to the left or the right. When driving at any speed and go over bumps on the road the steering wheel makes a clunk noise. The steering feels loose when driving on the highway at speeds of 60+. This is an issue that needs to be recalled. When I spoke to the dealer they said that my car doesn't have any recalls on the steering! but found right here on this website, shows the TSB#10-01-32. We purchased this car in 2011 with the full waranty intact from crain kia, which also owns crain Hyundai the vehicle was a dealership demo vehicle. After running a VIN search on this website, it has not been inspected or repaired. This is unsafe and puts the lives of not just the owners/drivers of this vehicle but other drivers on the road as well in severe danger. At this time, if nothing is done, we will pursue legal action against Hyundai north America and crain Hyundai / kia. For their lack of professionalism, selling "unsafe" cars to the public! please reopen this case immediately and have them repair these darn cars. Sincerely, us soldier and family.
In the evening of the 22nd the traction control light came on and would not go away when I pressed the button also the car would have a long lag between pressing or releasing the accelerator and the car responding. The next morning when I began driving again the traction control light did not come up but when I began to accelerate and got to 20mph the car suddenly stopped accerating and the engine went idle until I released my foot from the pedle and reapplied it when it would go again with no additional issues. This pattern repeated itself each time the car dropped below 20 mph.
This vehicles steering column shakes, rattles, and pops while driving, turning, etc. . I have had to also replace 4 front tires and several front end alignments within a years time frame. The tire couples inside every time I have had to replace from abnormal wear and wires are visible on the inside of the tires. When I reach 55-60 mph the whole front end shakes violently, and as stated front end alignments do not last long.
I was informed by several CO-workers that there were recalls for our car, the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The problems that are affecting my 2011 Hyundai Sonata are: exterior lighting: brake lights: switches, brake light and steering: gear box: shaft sector. The only recall that the Hyundai dealer honored was from campaign 123. Campaign 110 and 122 will not be honored due to the manufacture date of my vehicle which is March 28, 2011. If my car is having the same problems as the other 2011 Hyundai Sonatas why can't my vehicle be repaired under the recall. I feel that this is unfair to consumers of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata due to a manufacturing date. Please give me some type of remedy for this matter!!! had I known about the business practices of Hyundai I would have never purchased this vehicle!!!.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving at 35 mph, there was an abnormal clicking sound in the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front driver side axle was fractured and the steering wheel intermediate shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the front driver side axle was replaced three times and the front passenger side axle was repaired once. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 57,779.
I purchased my 2011 Hyundai Sonata on Dec 15,2013 from a Hyundai dealer. In April I noticed that my vehicle was pulling to the right side. I took it to a different location and after several attempts of them correcting the issue they called me and told me they could not figure out what was wrong. I then took it to the Hyundai dealer and they replaced a sensor and told me it was done. Again my car will not stay in the lane. It pulls so much to the right and is very unsafe. I took it in again and they are telling me it is just the alignment. They even stated that someone else in my house hit something. I looked online and saw that there are numerous complaints of cars pulling to left or right. I was told there was a recall campaign 927 but they only did an alignment on December 23,2011 and nothing else was done but then it was closed, indicating that it had been fixed. They want me to pay for the alignment and told me my tires are bad because of how it drives. Hyundai is aware of the issues and gives me the run around.
Steering column recall (campaign 97) was identified as performed by Hyundai on November 12, 2010. While having repairs done to 2011 Hyundai Sonata, the mechanic identified that the car had a recall which was characterized by the steering problems/shaking identified. Hyundai was contracted and they scheduled an appointment to have the car diagnosed stating their policy. . . "once a recall / always a recall. " I really did not really like it when I was told that if the problem was not the steering column recall, I would be charged for the diagnosis. I really did have a problem when I was told that they would not tell me what the charges may be. Compounding this, the rims have corroded to the point where they are almost completely black. This has been contributed to be corrosion of some sort by three independent inspectors. When I asked Hyundai mfg. & ES Hyundai for repair/replacement under the corrosion warranty, I was told this is not covered under their corrosion warranty. My repeated requests to have a service manager/technician to look at the rims and help explain what the problem is have been repeatedly ignored. Why can't these people say what they mean and do what they say?.
Steering column makes clunk/rattle noise driving down rough road, bumps, and small potholes at high and low speed, it more noticeable at low speed. While at standing it makes no noise.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated there was a loud banging noise under the vehicle while driving 65 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times and they were not able to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the steering wheel began to vibrate violently. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id numbers: 10v426000 (steering) and 10v457000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician informed the contact that the steering column and front driver's side axle would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 67,382. Updated 12-26-13.
2011 Hyundai Sonata turbo--when driving, the front end pulls to the right. I am replacing tires yearly. The shop says they can't find any problems, turbo when applied smells like burning rubber.
Dear sir/madam, I'm contacting you to report what I strongly believe is a defect in the steering unit of Hyundai Sonata, 2011. In an article that was published in September 2010 at yahoo news, a recall problem of the Sonata was reported after "complaints have come in about feeling looseness while driving or abnormal sounds coming from the steering columns. . When the car is running in park, the steering wheel everytime when turned or rocked in a right to left motion, a clunking loose sound will be felt and heard.
I own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I have taken my vehicle back to Hyundai in killeen to have the alignment repaired two times. When I initially received the car it pull very hard to the left, then once they "fixed it" it still pulled. I paid initially to have the car certified and alignment it part of it.
When driving car the right side wheel sounds like it is rubbing I have brought it to the dealer several times and have been told that this model is known to make the sound they stated that they changed out parts and it will keep make that sound when going over a incline or pulling up a hill or into a parking area.
Two issues: 1. I purchased the vehicle used in December 2012. Immediately noticed a left pull, so the dealership agreed to align the vehicle prior to us driving off the lot. Since then, the car has never been properly aligned with the dealership consistently stating "you must be hitting too many potholes". I drive a Sonata, not an off-road vehicle. Absolute bologna! I've gone through 2 new tires and three alignment's since with the left pull still occurring. Finally, I decided to give up on the dealer and take it to a local repair shop who informed me I'll need to install an aftermarket camber bolt kit and this is a known issue in Sonatas. I'm hoping this will fix the problem, but it seems utterly ridiculous that none of the Hyundai dealerships would ante up and take the blame for this and consistently took my money for an alignment that never fixed the problem. 2. Loud clicking when turning left or right at any speed which is getting significantly worse. The clicking was mild when I first purchased the vehicle and has since gotten significantly worse. When I spoke with the dealership about this, they want to charge me another $200+ to fix. **needless to say, I will never purchase a Sonata again. They don't take responsibility for anything.
