Driving at interstate speeds, will down shift and drastically lose speed while in blue mode. No warning lights of any kind. No apparent issue at lower speeds. Engine does not rev up high because of rev limits. Drops from 6 gear down to 4 gear quickly loosing speed. Leading to impedance of traffic flow. A couple of time this happened when merging on to interstate. Had to ride on side to next exit. I have learned if I go into sport shift mode I do not experience this issue. I have taken to dealership, but unable to repeat issue on test drive. They did a diagnosis and cleared some history codes but it did not help. Again this happens unexpectedly.
Vehicle shifted funny, then check engine light came on. Almost got into an accident. See service bulletin number 14-at-010. Apparently this is a known and ongoing problem. I was told by Hyundai that there is currently no recall.
2012 Hyundai Sonata hybrid has been experiencing rough transmission operation after software update service was completed for the car at a dealership. The software update to the car computer system was know as "service campaign 953" (knock sensor detection system - engine monitoring technology). Ever since the car computer system was updated, the transmission has been operating very rough. The car started jerking when in motion and the engine would race when I stepped on the accelerator. Also, the service light on dashboard illuminates. When l called the dealership and reported the transmission hesitation problem, they tried to fix the issue by running diagnostic tests and replacing the esc relay. All did not solve the problem. Later, l was told there was nothing they can do about about it, unless am ready to take care of the expenses (diagnosis and mechanical), because the car is out of warranty due to mileage. I told them the car transmission was operating smoothly until after the software update was applied to the car computer system. As of right now, I believe the software service to the car has caused this changes in the transmission. I also think, the dealership should have worked on fixing the issues on my car regarding the software service update. I want to this issue to be critically looked into, since there may be many out there with Hyundai Sonata transmission predicament.
My 2012 hybrid Sonata, 104,000 miles, suddenly started jerking and nearly stalling one recent morning on a drive from home on a divided road. It barely moved forward, badly jerking, message on the screen was : hybrid battery low. Pull up safely an place the car in park". So after 1/2 mile, I returned home. Because of low speed on a divided road, there was a serious concern of being hit by another car. I had the car towed next morning to the Hyundai dealer. They reported 'nothing wrong found' and returned the car which is running fine, though jerking transmission at low speed. I am wondering if this happened away from home, what shall I do. I need assurance that that will not happen again. How do we get that assurance ?.
Engine failure: I own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. On Jul 2, 2019, I was driving home from work on the highway in the far left lane, driving approximately 60 miles an hour when suddenly the engine stalled and the car would no longer accelerate. It then started making a knocking noise. This was a very scary occurrence especially to happen on the highway. But fortunately, I was able to slowly cross over, safely get off at the nearest exit, and pull over to the side of the road. Several warning indicator lights were flashing on the car (including the engine light) and I detected a slight burning odor (but no fire). I was able to restart the vehicle but it stalled again and eventually was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed a complete engine failure. The vehicle wasn't repaired but towed to the closest official Hyundai dealership (256 north franklin st, hempstead, NY) for assistance. The following recalls are associated with my vehicle: recall# 17v226000 (engine), and #15v568000 (engine). At the time of occurrence the vehicle had oil in the tank and had approximately 88,000 miles on it which should not have affected the engine at all. I sincerely hope that by reporting this incident, it will assist the Hyundai dealership in repairing or replacing the engine in my vehicle as stated in the recall and thereby preventing this from ever happening again. This is a very dangerous incident and wouldn't want to ever subject myself or my family (who also ride in this vehicle) to a terrible incident such as this or worse.
I have a Hyundai tucson se plus 2. 0 liter has almost 21k miles. I started noticing an issue a few weeks ago where it will not accelerate from a stop or slow crawl. I've had some frightening situations where taking a left turn in an intersection there is delayed acceleration as much as 2-5 seconds with on-coming traffic. The problem is exacerbated with the ac on and undrivable unless I turn the ac off at the stoplight/stop sign. I've tried adding sea foam to a full tank of gas thinking it was dirty fuel-injectors, but no improvement. My brother has an identical car with 31k miles and called me today of having the same issue. The only common denominator is it has been hot (85-90 degrees) during the day. When the temperatures are lower in the morning, I do not notice the problem as much, but it remains sporadic. Also, I experienced the car shifting at unusual times. I recently had an oil change at the Hyundai dealer, and I mentioned the issue. They could investigate the problem for a price which I was not inclined to do, mainly if no code was triggered and it is under warranty. My brother is taking his tucson next week, and I will wait to see what comes of it. It is not a coincidence that two identical cars would experience the same issue at the same time. Having read several complaints on NHTSA and other forums, I believe this is an issue Hyundai is not addressing. If Hyundai can't fix this soon, I will turn the car in when I lease is up in a year.
We had engine recall for last 2 years. Had all recalls taken care of including the dealer listening to engine & 2 weeks ago installing a sensor. This sensor supposed to if needed set off check engine lights & reduce power to 50% so you can safely get to a dealer. My daughter was driving on a major highway when engine lights came on & she lost all power and car stalled in middle of a merge lane. No warning or reduction in power, stalled where it stopped. I came & parked behind her with my 2017 tuscon waiting for a tow truck. This sensor recall did not work for us & put my daughter in real danger & gave me a false sense of security in this recall. I want nothing but for no one to get hurt. Please fix this issue, its not helping its going to make it worse. Waiting for new engine, dealer says on back order.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 20 to 40 mph, the vehicle jerked violently and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact attempted to place the vehicle in reverse and depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact also noticed an abnormal odor coming from the hood and base of the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was unknown.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. When the vehicle was placed in park and turned off, an alarm sounded that alerted the contact to place the vehicle in park. As a result, the vehicle would not shut off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,000.
My steering is cluncking when I turn my wheel. I brought my car in for 2 recalls and I assumed this would be on the recall list as well. The hyundia dealership that I brought the car to said that this was under warranty but I have exceded the manufacutrers warranty to cover this and it would cost me almost 300. 00 to fix it myself. I know this is a common problem for this vehicle since my son is a mechanic and has told me of several that they have replaced. I would hope that Hyundai would fix the problem for me since I have had this car for 7 years and no compalints. If they don't want to fix this problem I will just trade the vehicle in for a manufacturer that will take care of problems when they happen.
While on the freeway, the car was making hard shifts when accelerating and decelerating. Then it slowed and gas pedal when pressed was like being in neutral, then it would catch and stop again. . . Then had no power at all. Extremely dangerous. Was able to pull over after nearly causing an accident and was towed to the dealer.
At any speed the engine will return to idle without moving the gas pedal. It will do the same thing when using cruise. Pushing the gas pedal will re-engage the engine. It acts as if you take your foot off the gas. There are no warning lights and everything acts normal (lights, power steering etc). This started in mid March 2019. It is becoming a daily issue. . My wife is scared to drive it. I took it to my Hyundai dealer and they could find nothing wrong. It did not do it for them. They said it showed no codes. I keep very good care of my Sonata. It has 180,000. My dealer is noller Hyundai topeka KS.
2012 Sonata inconsistently will display "shift to p" when trying to turn the vehicle off. The car is always in park when this happens and it won't allow the navigation screen to turn off. The engine will turn off but the battery will drain due to the screen being constantly illuminated during this issue. Sometimes it can take up to 25 minutes to get this issue to resolve itself by restarting the engine, shifting to drive and then back to park, and then attempting to turn off the car over and over again. This issue occurs more often when going on short drives.
The car will turn off while driving. We tested the battery and the alternator and everything else that will be the issue but everything is working fine and maintenance is up to date. We dont feel safe driving the car.
Was driving to work and the car cut off in the middle of the road allowed me enough movement to turn in parking lot and get halfway in to a parking space.
On Saturday, October 13, 2018, I was in a parking structure looking for a place to park. I was on the ramp to the 2nd floor when for no apparent reason, my car accelerated and hit the vehicle in front of me and my vehicle immediately quickly reversed backwards and hit the vehicle behind me. The vehicle continued to move back and forth like a bumper car. I was trying to press the break but nothing happened. I started screaming for someone to help that the vehicle was out of control. After going back and forth about 5 times before being stopped by the vehicle behind me. The vehicle was stationary when this all happened.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle was involved in a crash. The contact crashed into a curb and trampled over a handicap sign, while pulling into a parking space. Thereafter, the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated rapidly, without warning, while in the reverse position. In an attempt to reverse the vehicle, another crash occured in which the vehicle accelerated rapidly, crashing into a parked vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated independently on both occasions. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was not destroyed. Fairfax Hyundai - 10925 fairfax blvd, fairfax, virginia 22030 (703) 352-0444 was made aware of the crash, and requested that a test-drive be performed on the vehicle to potentially duplicate the failure for assessment purposes. The vehicle was taken to a body repair shop to be evaluated for damages and soon repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the crash. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000. Ad.
Noticed clicking noise whem turning. Took the car to the in at dealership and they say axles are bad.
While driving in motion or after driving briefly after a complete stop. The emergency brake light may come on, or the actual brake lights would start to flicker for no reason. The rpms on the car would drop very low and then rise over 3000. The vehicle would then decelerate and not allow to go higher than 25 mph. The engine also makes a knocking noise. This has caused two near accidents ,one being t-boned by another vehicle and another almost being hit in the rear of the vehicle by another vehicle. This has been stated to the local dealership at least twice and they state they cannot find anything wrong that would cause these issues. The vehicle has been taken to taylor Hyundai of augusta each time to be inspected.
While driving down the road my car is knocking out of gear, not getting acceleration. Pretty certain its the gear shifter. Also a burning smell comes from my motor.
Press the start button and the car doesn't crank to turn on. Power to all other systems appears fine. I put the car in n then back to p and was able to turn the car on. Change battery and the battery on the key. Still having issues. No-start, no-crank due to gear selector range switch I was informed by Hyundai that my 2012 Sonata was not included in there campaign.
Sudden unintentional acceleration on a highway going approximately 45 mph. Saw brake lights on vehicles and started braking. Suddenly, my vehicle sped up, catching up to the vehicle ahead of me. The front of the car was bobbing up and down, but not stopping the vehicle. I do not know how fast I was going when I finally hit the other vehicle. We both got out of our vehicles and to my surprise, there was no damage on either vehicle. (miracle) there was no police or tow trucks called. I was able to get my car home safely. My car will probably be sold by the time you read this. Also, there were no injuries. I was so nervous I did not know what kind of vehicle I hit or if there were other passengers.
Turbo wastegate failure numerous times. No acceleration. Vehicle stalls. Warranty does not cover it.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle was coasted over to the side of the road. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer was not contacted. The failure was not diagnosed. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v152000 (seat belts). The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. P arts distribution disconnect.
The transmission has already been replaced once and now it's starting to do the same things it did before it was replaced. . . Jerking transmission shifts. Took it back to the dealership and they told me the transmission was acting up because the gas engine's battery (not the hybrid battery) was bad and needed to be replaced. The service guy said the battery only showed 10. 8 volts which means it's dead. He said a new battery will likely fix the transmission problem because it's an "electronic transmission". I said, "if the battery is bad/dead, why does it start the gas engine with no problem??" so I reluctantly said to replace the battery. Then he tells me the battery is $400. . . I told him that was way too expensive and I can buy one myself for less than 1/2 their cost. So I took it first to an advanced auto where I asked them to load test the battery before I bought a new one. Their load tester showed the battery as good @ 12. 8 volts (not 10. 8). Before I left, I had them test it a 2nd time and that test showed 12. 57 volts. . . Still good. 2 days later when my wife leaves work, the transmission starts jerking again and a yellow "wrench" icon pops up on the dash. She called me and I had her stop by a different parts store to have another test on the car battery. She stopped at an o'reilly's this time and their tester also showed the battery to be good. So the question is, is the jim hudson Hyundai dealership giving us the runaround because they don't want to fix/replace the transmission again? now we're trying to get the other Hyundai dealership in town to check the car out. Gonna be the last Hyundai we own. . .
Loose power and noise from engine while in drive 60 mph. . . . Donot know what it is for sure . Happens in city streets turning an driving at the same time.
Radio stops working unexpectedly. Must disconnect fuse on left side of dashboard and reconnect to resume normal operation. High beam switch works intermittently, must wiggle switch to engage high beam function. Automatic transmission occasionally locks up (can't shift) when starting vehicle in park, must wiggle gear shifter or push release lock button to start.
I had my engine replaced in 3/17. A couple months after that, it started hesitating when I put it in reverse. A couple months later, I had no reverse. I took it to the dealership in beckley, wv. They told me that they ran a scope in it and there is no reverse gear there. I was told of a recall on the power train so I called Hyundai. They sent me to the same dealership and I was told the same thing, I had no reverse. I was also told there was not a recall on my vehicle for this issue. I've been driving for almost 4 years with no reverse. I don't like to complain but I don't know what steps to take.
Last year (2016) 2 months after I purchased my 2012 Hyundai Sonata my engine failed. I realized it was due to a recall on my car. I was not notified at time of purchase and car facts did not mention open recall. The dealer refused to pay or be involved in the fixing of the car or the rental. Even though I paid 2000 dollars out of pocket for an extended warranty. The Hyundai company completed the recall fix on my engine and my insurance company (state farm ) got the dealership to cover half the cost of the rental. This year (2017) almost exactly 1 year later I am driving 60 mph down the freeway and my engine fails once again. I had my car towed to the same merced Hyundai dealership hat "fixed" the problem last year. The problem is the fuel tank has metal debri in it from the time hey built the car and over time as it passed through your engine it breaks it down. The "fixed" the problem by replacing my engine block but not replacing he fuel tank so won't the problem just happen again? I am hoping they don't try to make me pay for it this time around. I would like to know my options for this situation and who needs to be held accountable.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine area. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v568000 (engine) and 14v434000 (power train) but had not been notified by the manufacturer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
Complete and total motor falure while driving at highway speed. Previously needed fule pump replacement. Cv joint (axel) failed prematurly.
While changing the oil, I noticed a leak from the rear axle. I had the axle seals replaced at a local repair shop. Later I received a recall but the recall was only for a specific noise not for the faulty rear axle seals.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost power. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The check engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the vehicle was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Boyfriend's vehicle. Check engine light came on and the code p0087 was noted by the obdii (fuel rail pressure low) mechanic originally stated that this was an "intermittent" problem and the whole system would have to be replaced at + $1200. This didn't make sense to him so he asked to be shown exactly where the problem was located, and what part was causing the problem. The mechanic could not give him an answer. "it's around this area" he replied as he waved across the center of car. He went to another mechanic and another after that. Only consistency has been the lack of know how to fix this problem. In the meantime, his oil is thickening and darkening, and his fuel is not giving him the mileage it should. It seems the only assistance anyone wants to give revolves around replacing the whole system, yet the servicemen themselves admit that they are uncertain that this avenue for repair is necessary. None of them can offer us a repair or replacement of the sensor itself. Finally, one mechanic advised us that under the p0087 error code the following could be causing the engine light to come 1. Weak fuel pump, clogged filter or screen, restricted fuel supply line 2. Faulty fuel pump driver module 3. Faulty fuel pressure sensor. Unfortunately, this mechanic is a student and not certified to perform repairs. I verified his opinion thru obdcodes. Com but was quickly disillusioned because again, no one is willing to check these causes individually. Finally my boyfriend was told to just buy a can of air spray to blow out any surrounding dust and then just let him 'reset' the check engine light and see how long it stays off. I know that this is wrong and have found a repair guide finally. But,I also now find service bulletin no. : TSB-15-01-010 component(s): engine NHTSA id number: 10058132 that seems to be about this issue. How do we resolve this problem already?.
Issues with loud rattle noise coming from engine when accelerating over 40 mph. Called Hyundai dealer service dept. & made appt to get inspected. Service rep claimed the mechanic heard no noise, so I had to go drive car with mechanic to identify noise. (noise obviously noticeable) after driving car with mechanic he said the cvts needed to be replaced. I took my recall notice for NHTSA # 15v-568. I asked if this was due to metal debris left in engine they said no. They gave me a rental. Took 2 weeks for cvts to be replaced. About 8 days later after Hyundai returning car the noise was back. 3 weeks it got worse, called Hyundai dealer, took it back. The service rep. Again claims they dont hear anthing. Have to drive my car again to identify noise to mechanic. Its very frustrating. There still is no solution to rattle noise, recall or have they inspected my car properly for the car issues I am experiencing & reporting to them. The car stalled on my way to drop it off. Rpms increased but car did not accelerate. Let off gas pedal then tried again serveral times finally the car puttered & proceeded. My daughter was in the car with me so it was a scary situation for the both of us. I told the service rep what just happened. Left my car & they gave me rental. I have experienced loud noise from engine since I bought the car new in December 2011. Was told that the car is supposed to be loud & make the rattle noise bc of eco engine. As the years have gone by the car's performance has worsen. It has stalled several times. I dont feel safe. The car only has 45,000 miles. Ive had several issues battery, steerling wheel , radio, etc. . Bad experinces. Ive maintained the car with proper oil changes, reported all issues on file with Hyundai service dept . Hyundai needs to take responsibility & fix the problems with their cars & find a remedy to thier engine recall ASAP. Safety is important.
