1 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

My car would no longer start. I received a jump. The car started. It would not start again. I received a jump. The car started. I let it run 40 mins. I shut it off; tried to start the car back up; and it would not start. I received a third jump, it started, and I took my battery to get tested. The battery was fine. We went to jump it again, and we could not get it to start. I had it towed. After inspection, the battery tested as fine for a 2nd time. It was believed that the started needed to be replaced. A different mechanic came out for the started replacement but wanted to run some additional tests due to this being a common Sonata issue. He jumped the car and immediately it started by bypassing the break. He tested the battery (3rd time)--passed. Alternator--passed. Starter--passed. He advised me to take it to the dealership to have them pinpoint the relay/signal that was not properly working. I took the car to the dealership where they required another diagnostic. The dealership claims there a bad battery, despite it having passed 3x prior and would not do anything further because they say its a bad battery and nothing else--despite me consistently telling them the car has had electrical issues since purchased (cpo) and this being a [google-able and] very common issue with the 2012 Sonata. Less than 3 months ago, I experienced a common issue with the brake lights not turning off as well. The 2011 - 2013 Sonatas are ridden with electrical issues that Hyundai is covering up, and this needs to be recalled.

2 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

Having problems with the start button; key not detective. Tried changing the battery in the fob, but failed. Checked the fuse, main battery, alternator, and starter. Everything is fine. Vehicle was stationary.

3 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

The first time I went out to start my vehicle and it wouldn't start while in my driveway. I called Hyundai freehold and they said there may be a problem with the engine but they wouldn't know until they brought it in. (really, even with the massive recalls across the nation? okay. ) they would not pay for the tow. They would reimburse me after the fact. I played dumb and had it towed to them but reported it to Hyundai corporate. Then Hyundai of freehold admitted there was a recall on my vehicle and they would give me a new engine. The second time I was coming out of the college from a night class and it wouldn't start. I called them the next morning and they said the same thing (we won't pay for the tow we will reimburse you). They knew by the second time around that I had purchased a third party warranty so either way they wouldn't be stuck with the bill. I had it towed by the third party and paid the difference as the first time. This time they said it was the starter. (hmmm, okay). Now here I am a few months later. And I go out to my car and the car isn't starting (again). Should I bother to call them and ask them if they will pay for the tow this time? what's the difference right as long as I'm not paying anything but he difference after third party payment you ask? it's the principle! also, what happened when my third party agreement runs out and these knuckleheads are still saying (we have to see if it's something we did!?! or worse yet, something happens while I'm out with my two year old?! they are clearly doing this to other people I checked their yelp page I'm not the only victim. Please help?! I can't afford to wait until my third party warranty is up for them to fix the problem or give me a vehicle of the same value mins the problems. It's literally been one thing after another since I bought the car. And forget about asking for a loaner!.

4 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2015

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a catastrophic motor failure and that the dealer needed to provide a repair. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine). The vehicle was kept at the dealer for longer than two months. The dealer replaced the part for the recall repair, but the failure recurred. The contact was informed that the motor and starter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

5 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

Starter and battery needed to be replaced on 2012 Hyundai Sonata. Not covered by my warranty.

6 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

I purchased the car in June 2014 it was used and had 38,940 miles. I've had to buy three 3 starters & 1 battery since I bought it. The mechanic in florida stated there was an electrical issue which was shorting out my starter/battery. I took the car to rick case Hyundai in plantation, FL, after the first starter died, I do not recall the exact date and they told me to get a refund from Hyundai as it was still under warranty. I would have been between sept. -Dec. 2014. I have only been reimbursed $310. 00 from Hyundai to date for the first starter. I get my oil changed every 3,000-5,000 miles. I took the car to lithia Hyundai in fresno twice, Jan. 2016 for recall 132 they claimed nothing is wrong. Seven months later I have the same issue. First complaint, while driving the car home last night the car slowed down and stalled while driving; I had to tap the gas pedal several times and the car took off. This happened on a busy road with cars around. When backing the car, there is a knocking noise. This morning, the car did the same thing on my way to work and I almost had an accident, because it would slow down while my foot is on the gas pedal it was like I am running out of gas and I have the tank almost full. It would take off again after tapping the gas pedal several times. This was on a very busy road with a lot of cars. My fianc took the car August 2016 to visalia Hyundai and they tried to claim my car/VIN # does not show it as being under recall. I had to pay $81. 00 to get that fixed and that issue was part of a recall as well but I was told my VIN # did not show up for it. I have had electrical issues and engine issues with this vehicle since 2014 & Hyundai has done nothing. I brought my vehicle to the dealer while still under warranty, they failed to do anything. I've paid a lot of $$$ monthly for this car & on repairs for a car that isn't safe.
