1 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2021

2012 Hyundai Sonata on may 8,2020 Hyundai replaced my engine due to a recall . On August 18,2020 I had complained about the smell of gas that I smelled in my car . They inspected my vehicle and said it was fine . But every so often I kept smelling gas inside my car but no engine light or any light turned on and plus I thought it was fine since Hyundai inspected my car but February 4, 2021 I was parked with my vehicle running and the fuel smell started getting worse , entering my vehicle through the air vent. My vehicle would smell like gas even when it was turned off . So I turned my car off and I heard loud boiling bubble noises inside my car which is strange. I waited a few minutes turned my car on and then my thermostat maxed out all the way to hot so I shut my car off . I callled Hyundai & took my car to the palm springs dealership and they inspected it and told me that it's the high pressure fuel pipe . My vehicle is still at the dealership because I can't afford $1000. 00 to pay for something that's a recall. Especially since I complained about the gas smell on August 2020 . Also my right tail light is completely out . I replaced the bulbs multiple times but it ended up burning out . The wires are burnt and melted. This is car is nothing but problems .

2 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

Brake and tail lights go out a lot and need to be replaced to often. The driver side brake and tail light are out now and when the bulb blew, it melted the housing element and can't get a new bulb in it. So now the vehicle is being operated with only the passenger side brake and tail lights.

3 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2020

Multiple parts have been replaced on my front end from what mechanics thought were the problem but my wheel still sticks/pull to the left while driving even after multiple front end work and alignments. Also, I've replaced head lights, tail lights, breaks and reverse lights numerous times because something keeps blowing them. When I press the volume button on the steering it changes the screen on the radio. I'm assuming it's something with wiring malfunctioning. The cruise control on the wheel doesn't always work as well.

4 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2020

The socket on either taillights has completely burned out creating a multitude of safety hazards, including a fire hazard. When attempting to operate the break, neither tail light will illuminate.

5 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

Head lights and tail lights consistently burn out, rear tail lamps caused melting of the assembly on both sides near where the socket goes. Rectified rear lamp issue using lower wattage leds, not a solution for this but a band aid. Car automatic locks have ceased working, fan assembly cut on and off causing failure of radiator. Buttons on steering wheel activate wrong settings often when used. High pressure fuel pump stopped functioning, only low pressure system remains. All problems listed happen intermittently either moving or stationary.

7 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

For the third time now I was pulled over on the freeway for having a tail light out on my 2012 Hyundai Sonata. No matter how many times I replace the bulbs they just keep blowing. I haven't received a ticket yet from any of these occurrences, thank god, but I'm sure eventually. . . I am starting to fear I am going to be somewhere at night and someone is going to hit me. This cannot be normal for my year Hyundai.

Failure Date: 04/29/2019

Tail lights/ brake lights continuously burnout. I have replaced the bulbs on both the right and left sides over 10 times since purchasing the vehicle. The bulb is at times so hot it's melting the plastic casing that it sits in.

10 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

After having every recall imaginable including the replacement of my engine recently after it stalled while driving down one of the busiest highways in las vegas, I am stunned that the steering column and the electrical for the brakes hasn't been recalled yet. My steering column is clicking and making noises that have increased in the volume of the sound and it does this every single time I turn the wheel. I see others have already had this fail in their 2012 Sonatas entirely and previous years of my exact vehicle for the same issues have been recalled. I drive a three year old around frequently and I am afraid that soon my column will completely detach itself and cause an accident. I see other consumers have had to pay to have it fixed out of pocket at low mileage as well. Clearly we cannot all be misusing our vehicles. Previous Sonata models have also had the exact same safety recalls for these exact same problems that we are seeing now in this specific year and still they choose to deny it is their fault. My miles aren't even 70,000 yet. I have also replaced my left rear brake light 4 times now, how many more times will I have to do this before I am hit by someone or before someone else's brake lights fail and they end up in an accident that could be fatal? I have already been pulled over for having a tail light out that I had just replaced a week prior. This year make and model should just be recalled and scrapped entirely and owners given their money back. I had a seatbelt recall that was then later on recalled again!! I mean come on Hyundai!.

14 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2018

This is an ongoing problem, the plastic that the tail light bulb is attached to is melting and I have had to replace the tail light casing already recently. Since the replacement, I replaces a bulb and the plastic is starting to look burned again. Two weeks since I replaced that bulb, the light is out again. Everytime I have this problem my check engine light comes on. After a few days it goes off. When I take call the dealer they said if the light goes off they cannot check the problem, this problem started about 3 years after I got this car and now my check engine light is on again and will not go off. The driver side airbag light is alway on since a year ago. No accident. Looks like there are a lot of similar issues with Sonata.

17 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2017

I have replaced my tail lights on my car no less than 8 times in the last 2 years. I just had my car tail lights repaired on 09/30/17 and the tail light is out again. Every single time I take it to the dealership they expect me to pay. Additionally, I have replaced my headlights as well several times.

18 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2017

We own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata and the brake-tail lights keep going out. One tail light we had to replace the whole assembly because the hole that the bulb goes in melted. It does not matter what you do they always burn out. When I'm on the highway and I'm behind a Hyundai Sonata or elantra around the 2012 model they always have a tail light that does not work. I know a few other people who have had this issue. I emailed Hyundai about it and they said their basically not doing anything about it. This is a safety issue that can cause someone to run into the back of you.

19 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2017

I been having this vehicle since 02/2016 and experiencing a light outage more than often. I have to replace the lights form head lights, tail lights, and brake lights (like musical chairs) at ;east once a month. Im not sure what the issue is occurring from. I have used low priced bulbs to high priced bulbs. Per my engine research this is a common issue with this type of vehicle. This should be recalled and corrected immediately.

20 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

The rear passenger tail light bulb blew out and upon making the change it was discovered that the bulb socket and the light housing surface were melted to the point that the two surfaces would nor interlock correctly. The incident was discovered while the vehicle was parked but the failing of the bulb likely occurred while moving. I'm concerned that this type of bulb failure could be a fire hazard.

21 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

Tail light keeps overheating and melting the plastic casing, I have replaced the casing already and the bulbs keep blowing, the plastic from the new casing looks burned already within a month and within two weeks of the second bulb replacement it is burnt out again. These bulbs are all being replaced by a reputable shop and not an individual.

22 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2015

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the rear tail lights had an internal electrical short and contained rust and corrosion. Also, the sockets melted on both sides of the rear tail lights. The rear passenger side light had to be removed to prevent the middle rear brake light from remaining illuminated. The rear driver's side tail light was operable, but eventually shorted out as well. The contact ordered replacement tail lights three times, but the failure recurred each time. In addition, the contact heard a loud noise concerning the fuel system. When turning the steering wheel in either direction, the contact heard an abnormal noise intermittently. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 18v137000 (seat belts and air bags) and 18v934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline); however, the contact did not receive any notifications. Mcgrath city Hyundai (6750 w grand Ave, chicago, IL 60707, (773) 889-9090) was contacted, but had not diagnosed or repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

23 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

While driving in the city or highways using my turn signals, hazard lights or brakes my tail light keeps overheating and melting the plastic casing, I have replaced the casing already and the bulbs keep blowing, the plastic from the new casing looks burned and continues to have smoke. I have replaced the bulbs weekly over a year to date. These bulbs are all being replaced by a reputable shop and not an individual. I have receipts to confirmed the number of bulbs that have been replaced since my purchase in Dec 2014. I stopped by clem's goodyear to inspect the constant bulb outage. I was in formed the entire case has melted due the type of bulbs Hyundai manufacturer are using and could potentially cause a fire or an explosion. The mechanic went on to say it's to close to my gas tank and potentially be detrimental. The mechanic called Hyundai dealership for lighting kit and was informed they keep this kit heavily stocked because of the number of complaints they get regarding the read break lights frequent outage. Quoted price $540. So I stopped by bentley Hyundai to discuss the information provided to the mechanic. I overheard the service mechanic customer service rep say to a mechanic we got another one with the same issues. When the service rep returned he informed they have the part and quoted me $440 to replace. This is an indication they is a lighting/electrical mechanical problem that could potentially kill someone. A recall should be issued before it's to late.

24 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The complete brake light panels-"taillights" on both sides of the back of the car (2012 Sonata) - is completely out. (back driver and passenger taillight panels) all the wiring that carrys electricial to the back taillights are melted / completely worped / fused together and blown out. All the burnt wiring has disfigured and melted the inside of the tail light panels (in the trunk) so the bulbs or wires can not be replaced and functionable. Fyi: it carrys the smell of the burnt wiring and plastic. My 2012 Sonata has "no electricial wires" that are functionable to connect the tail lights on either side in the back of the car. The dealership has tried to fix the bulbs and connection 2 times but nothing works- it continues to blow out & melt. . . This problem needs to be recalled the "tail lights, all wiring to the taillights, fuses and anything that is connected with the electrical for the tail lights. " this will catch fire in the trunk or worse!.

25 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

This vehicle has had electrical problems from the very beginning. As well as the horrible ticking (cylinders not injectors!) mainly at first was the radio would go out. Was not even a month after purchase, dealers answer was to "remove the fuse and push back in and it will work". So I did, shady but I did. Then cruise would not work, would have to pull over shut off vehicle then maybe it would work. Next my car kept burning out headlamps. Friggin expensive (I use silver silverstar ultra headlights for long trips) I'm now on my 8th set. I even contacted the manufacturer to complain about their cheap headlights! oops! then the clicking and popping started with the front wheels first only in reverse then all the time especially while turning. I was past the warranty and because I didn't ask about it before my warranty expired they didn't fix it!!! then the crazy electrical stuff started! my dome light stopped working right so I had to turn it off completely. Then parking tail light stopped working. Finally I went through my third battery and took it to the dealer to ask what all this crappie as about, OH it's a bad battery, you know they do go bad they said. Well thank god I purchased extended warranty they fixed an axle, clock spring replaced buttons on steering wheel, I had to buy a new battery and still the problem persisted. Recently after this whole ordeal I started with the dealer in August and didn't get my car fixed and back to me until almost christmas! got my car back tail light still doesn't work, cruise is somewhat fixed radio did it again and guess what, the headlight burned out again a week after I picked up the car!!! arrrggghhhh! I went and bought a new set of headlights (because they always tell you to replace in pairs) and guess what even the brand new bulb doesn't work!!! I spent almost 30k on this car and my 18k corolla was way better! functioning.
