1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2026

I contact the Hyundai dealer about my 2016 Hyundai Sonata. For all I know those vehicles have recalls with engine failure/stalling due to premature rod bearing wear, fire risks from malfunctioning electric oil pumps. My car is having those exact problems with the abs lights being on and is also have problems with the vvt sprocket. And the oil I called Hyundai and they said my vehicle only has a recall with the junction box. But my car is unable to go over 60. And is unsafe to drive and the recalls with that type of model car is the same recalls I am having and soon as I've bought the car and had it for some time I am starting to have those problems so I would like to know what’s going on because it is unsafe and I can’t even drive my vehicle I also have a blinking check engine light. I’ve wanted to report this now incase risk of a fire because I’ve did my research and realize these cars that have these type of problems are known for catching on fire.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2025

Pushed acceleration at traffic light to cross and turn into neighborhood, car started beeping frantically, 'check hev system' flashed on dash as well as 'turn off engine' while car decelerated to 1-3 mph. Battery meter bar on left side of dash completely depleted showing no battery power supply at all. Turned vehicle off for a few minutes then restarted. Put the vehicle in drive gear and same warnings appear, car doesn't even accelerate when gas pedal is pressed fully, stays at 1-3 mph crawl. Vehicle stalls out after 30 seconds, vehicle turns on but cannot start.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2024

While driving, the vehicle's engine light will randomly turn on and when it does, the car will lose power; meaning, when this occurs, and I press the accelerator pedal, it does not put out the normal, expected amount of acceleration. This problem will persist until I pull over, turn off the vehicle, and turn it back on. However, this does not always fix the issue. Sometimes, when I turn the car off and turn it back on, the check engine light will still be on and I will still encounter the issue. When I brought my vehicle into my local Hyundai dealership, they had the car for 3 days, and when I called to ask what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it, they told me they could not recreate the problem and therefore, did not do anything to the vehicle. So now, I'm at an impasse where this problem is not able to be recreated, thus, unable to get it fixed, but I don't feel completely safe to drive long distances. I also own a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that experienced the same type of issue, and that engine was recalled.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2024

My car experiences issues around acceleration. It often feels like it gets “stuck” or hesitates when I try to accelerate from a stop (ex. A stoplight) or low speed or when I try to merge onto the highway. At times I have not been able to merge onto the highway at a safe speed because my acceleration gets stuck/lags at a low mph (ex. 35 mph onto a 70 mph highway). My car also excessively consumes oil. I started noticing the excessive oil consumption around 115k miles. My oil lamp does not illuminate when low on oil in nearly all cases I have been low on oil. It has only come on once (did not remain on) and oil was not present on the dipstick. I am 687 miles into my current 1,000-mile oil consumption test and have had to top off my oil twice. I started the test because my oil light flashed and oil was not present on the dipstick. The engine light came on 312 miles into the consumption test. I got a diagnostic code from autozone and relayed the diagnostic code to the dealership. The dealership said the code was related to low oil and to fill up with oil and bring the car to the dealership. I filled it with oil and drove the car to luke’s auto for an independent inspection. Their inspection found that the check engine light was from a failed e-cvvt and additional wear was present. I asked if this could be caused by oil consumption issues and they confirmed the possibility. Just over 300 miles from that incident, I checked my oil and it was once again low. I am deeply concerned about the safety of my vehicle due to it's stalling and indicators of potentially seizing. I have had near collisions on the highway due to my vehicle getting "stuck" while accelerating and unable to enter the highway at a safe speed. I am concerned about the consequences of lack of oil and failure of my oil lamp to illuminate to indicate no oil such as my engine seizing or catching fire. I have reported these concerns to the dealership since 1/2/23 and have reported my concerns to hma.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2024

I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata that has had repeated engine issues including stalling overheating and shutting off. The car engine also caught on fire on 11/30/2023 and was reported to Hyundai comsumer affairs where a case was opened. The car was in the dealership for repair until 1/4/2024 I have a warranty that the dealership or Hyundai did not honor for the engine, power train. The services that were repaired was a replacement of a engine piece which is continuously variable valve timing) system which controls the controls the open & close timing of intake valve to improve engine performance. On approximately 1/7/2024 3 days after picking the car up which I had to incur the cost of the repair as Hyundai did not honor my warranty the engine as well as oil light came on the car repair included transmission oil flush and engine oil replacement per the dealership. I contacted the service manager mr espinoza who was overseeing my case and informed him of the continued issues he asked me to drive the vehicle in to be looked it. As we have had inclement weather in my area I was unable to take the vehicle in. On 1/26/24 I attempted to drive the car to the services department at pohanka Hyundai only for the engine to make a roaring noise and stall also there was no engine oil in the car wherefore it should’ve been. I contacted the dealership and told they were busy and to bring it next week. I am requesting Hyundai to buyback the car.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

Found me driving on I 75 and I put the cruise control at 70 miles, instead of maintaining the speed at 70miles the vehicle accelerated to more than 90 miles per hour I had to quickly put my foot on the brake otherwise I could have an accident with the vehicle from the front, after all this happened, I felt the car was losing speed, I tried to accelerate but it did not go over 60 miles per hour. I took it to the mechanic and they did not detect anything in the vehicle's computer. This vehicle also turns off at times when you are driving and it turns off it also spend too much oil motor , I started looking for information on this model of car and I see that there are more than 550 people who have the same problem as me, this is an unsafe vehicle for the road.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical issue affecting my 2016 Hyundai Sonata 4 door sedan, that warrants investigation and public awareness. Hyundai cars are currently plagued by engine oil consumption problems that ultimately lead to engine failure, due to there being no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This is a concerning issue that remains largely unknown to most customers. When these issues arise, car owners such as myself, are often left with uncooperative dealerships that either deny the problem or offer minimal assistance. Even Hyundai corporate and extended warranties fail to provide adequate support, frequently citing owner negligence as a reason for denial. This occurs despite the fact that engine sludge buildup is inevitable, even with consistent car maintenance. Furthermore, I am forced to endure long waiting times for my 2016 Hyundai Sonata 4 door sedan, that has been inspected and, then denied for an engine replacement, and face additional months of delay for them to explain why. The situation is exacerbated by the lack of loaner vehicles and no assurance of rental reimbursement. This leaves countless individuals burdened with repair payments for stranded vehicles. My personal experience has been with ourisman Hyundai, and many others have voiced similar grievances. Numerous complaints have been filed with the better business bureau (bbb) and the national highway traffic safety administration (nhsta), yet little action has been taken to aid the thousands of people who are experiencing the same problems to rectify this issue. It is imperative that attention is drawn to this matter as Hyundai's approach to selling cars with hidden engine issues puts customers at safety risk and places them in dire and deadly harm. I implore all news media outlets to conduct an investigation into these concerns and help shed light on a situation that demands immediate attention.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2023

This vehicle had a complete engine failure. Since it is a hybrid, when the engine shut down, the vehicle lost all power. The driver had no control over steering or brakes. The vehicle crashed through three trees and into a house. Hyundai motors of America and NHTSA are aware of the issues with this vehicle's engine, however, this engine was already replaced. The problem was that the "limp mode" did not enact in this specific car. I brought this to Hyundai's attention at least 20 times and expressed my concern about the threat this vehicle posed to me and anyone else on the road, yet they continued to ignore me or attempt to rectify the issue. This vehicle was part of the class action lawsuit. I was told, after the seventh time the vehicle broke down (fourth time after engine replacement) that Hyundai would buy back the vehicle. That never happened. The vehicle shut down without "limp/safe mode", with an entire loss of power eight times and was brought into the dealership. Hyundai refused to help me. I knew it would end in disaster, and it did. I'm sure my vehicle is not the only one that does not have a safe mode taking effect when the power shuts off and there is no steering or brakes at 70 mph. I am using the date for the last time the vehicle shut off and the driver lost control and hit a house. However, there are eight other times this happened. I have more information and documentation if needed. I'm attaching my first claim, documents collected after that claim, the accident report (did not have photos attached, the photos are from the scene when I went there the next day), and all email conversations with Hyundai since the first engine failure. My big concern here is that even though Hyundai did try to repair the recall issues, they ignored everything else. I told them over and over that the limp mode did not work. This made it morally impossible for me to sell, even if I wanted to. They refused to help. I worry there may be others out there with this issue.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2023

Motor burns oil knocks and is loosing power while driving. Constantly having to add oil between oil changes. When trying to accelerate car starts to sputter on highway. Can't get power to engine and bad rattle sounds.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2023

The airbag light is on, indicating that the airbox is not operating and will not go off in case of an accident. All steering wheel controls also don't work so it's impossible to adjust settings using the steering wheel or to enter cruise control at all. Previous years of this same vehicle had clock spring recalls and this appears to be the same problem so I wonder if the other recalls should be extended to this year vehicle? thanks.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2022

While driving on the highway at speed, I received a red check hybrid system error, and immediately lost all acceleration, putting myself and all occupants at risk on a busy interstate highway, as we tried to find a safe way to quickly change lanes and coast to a stop in a safe location. The cause is under diagnosis by a Hyundai service center. This was a sudden failure and there had been no previous warning alerting us to substandard system condition.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

The engine is still under the orgininal warranty (10 years, 100,000 miles). I took my car to parks of Hyundai in gainesville, FL on 09/23/2021 for an issue with engine code p1326. The service manager reset my engine code and told me that their service department is backed up with cars and they cannot help me with my car at this time. Then on April 5, 2022, the issue happened again to my Hyundai Sonata on the interstate, the car engine went into limbo mode in the middle of the interstate and almost caused a large accident. I have the engine code p1326 showing up on their computer I took my car back to parks of Hyundai on April 5th, 2022. Parks of Hyundai told me that I had to leave my car with them and that they refuse to provide me with a rental. Karl buchwald, stated that it will take a few days to get to my car, and they will let me know what is wrong with it plus diagonistic fee of $200 even though I provided him with the engine code number thats under the powertrain warranty on the car. I went home and called corporate Hyundai and opened a case. Case 19623500 case manager emily, number 1(833)462-8722. Corporate Hyundai says I have to pay out of pocket for my rental and then submit my paper work after for possible rental reimbursement. I went back to parks of Hyundai to check on the status of my car on April 13, 2022, karl buchwald, states that it may take 2-3 weeks for them to take a look at my car. When I asked to see what was done on my car, he told service advisor michelle to enter my car into the system. My car was at their dealership for a week without paperwork. Eric duke states that since I did not purchase my car at their dealership, the wait time will be longer. I waited 2 weeks and went back to parks of Hyundai to check on my car yesterday 4/27/2022. Nothing has been done, they said it will be a few more weeks for diagonistic.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2022

I was traveling at 65 mph+ in heavy traffic on Friday rush hour when all dashboard error lights came on and then a banner that said turn off engine now. I had no acceleration and fortunately was at a point on the highway with a shoulder where I was able to pull over. I waited in the vehicle with high speed tractor trailer traffic passing close by. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. They replaced the hybrid battery . A week later the identical failure happened at highway speed. The vehicle is still in the shop for the second identical failure.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2021

I had to replace the battery within a month of getting the car, then again 6 months later. The radio and back up camera went out after a year of having it. The headlights kept going out, and eventually the wiring started burning. Battery went out again along with the alternator now. Mid drive the lights would cut off, speed thermometer would be off by 15, and almost impossible to turn the wheel.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

I was on the highway driving and as I begin to accelerate the car felt as if it was about to stall out. When I came to a stop sign and made a complete stop as I accelerated to drive the car did the same thing as if it wanted to stall out. Now when I'm driving I can't go over 60 mph and any time I come to a complete stop and try to accelerate the car acts as if it wants to stall out so I have to take off slowly then take my foot off the gas pedal and put it back on as if is having trouble getting gas to the engine. I took it to my mechanic and it read code p 1326. Now my car is in safety mode.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

Hello I purchased a 2016 Hyundai Sonata 4/8/2020 with 110,743 miles on it with now 116,000. About a month ago my check engine light came on with no symptoms to the naked eye . Maybe a week later I could feel the difference in the speed control the air intake seemed very sluggish it won't take off from the line it will drag before it decides to pick up speed . Now the issue is that this is a common problem with these specific cars with no recall on them. This is an expensive fix that I should not be responsible for. Code p200 intake manifold . . It's not safe to drive a vehicle that you cannot control its initial speed . . .

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2019

Car shakes erratically when trying to accelerate and has no power after hitting accelerator. It struggles to get any power to get going after being stopped at a red light. Gear changes get stuck and I have literally been stuck in middle of intersection while doing a legal u-turn in a busy busy la intersection with my 10yr old in the back seat and the only way to get out of the situation was to turn car off and turn on again which poses a major safety issue for both my daughter and myself. Took car in to service last week and they supposedly fixed issue but one week later here we are with same problem. Service told me it looks like solenoid is going out. Which seems strange for a 2016 car with only 27,000. So if this was the case why not change it before it was sold to me. Also car had prior issues before it was sold to me according to service. I smell recall???? I have no documentation but the dealer has all supporting paperwork.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

My right high beam stopped working, I have to add oil to my car every 3 days. Burns more gas going back and forth to work. Going around a fast highway curb, the engine shut down the speed of my car and would not stop dropping down to 45 mph in a 70mph packed highway. Awful experience. Called in the problem to Hyundai and they didn't show any care. I had an accident happen and I don't know if the electrical problem could be a result to the accidents. The case has been closed and nothing but a paper from a lawyer about getting $1000 for my car being at high risk. I have the case number available. It's been nearly a year.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

Head on collision with a deer, going 70mph on highway 49. No air bags released. After taking car to dealership, from receiving a letter of recall in the mail. Motor would shut down when reaching 65 mph, before taking car to dealership for recal. Car was in motion on the highway.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2019

I went into the dealer to get an oil change on 3/14/2019. The dealer chose to do a factory recall 50hyz. Soon as I left the dealer my car started stalling on 495 north towards tyson corner in virginia, jerking and lost drivetrain power. I could get to 60mph and the car wouldn't respond after that. I took the car back to the dealer. I was told the software updated bricked my Sonata. The dealer told me they will order the part and will come in 3/21/2019 which is today. Only to get a call saying the part is on back order into may. My question is why isn't holding Hyundai accountable for this? my car isn't the first one to get this software update so if Hyundai knows this software is going to brink peoples car how in the hell are they allowed to keep doing this recall when they have no clue when the part will be available?.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Vehicle fails to accelerate or acts as if it is going to shut off and just recently I got in vehicle started it and the check engine light came on. Vehicle shut off while starting it finally it started up I took it to auto zone to read the code. They advised me the code p200a is very common among Hyundai and it most like is the vcma that needs replacement. After doing further research there are many complaints about the vcma failing and having to be replaced. My warranty is up on my vehicle and I feel this is something that Hyundai needs to address as soon as possible given this is a common issue and could cause harm to driver or others while driving that vehicle. Also when attempting to accelerate and the vehicle fails to do so there is a rattling noise when pressing the gas petal.

Failure Date: 07/08/2017

As I am riding along at a steady rate, all of a sudden the car will slow down. Sometimes it slows 5-10 mph and starts to accelerate. At other times, it will slow to a complete stop. Before going on vacation, I took it to pantili Hyundai in princeton, wv and they did a computer update and told me it was fine. I drove to memphis, tennessee and it started doing it again. On my way home, we stopped in chattanooga for lunch. When crossing a busy intersection, it nearly stopped. A gas truck was approaching as we barely made it across to our side of the highway. Fortunately, there was shoulder room to move to until it decided to go again.
