1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2026

The horn on my vehicle completely stop working. There were no alert messages and I found out that it wasn't working when I needed to use it. I was driving 55 miles per hr in a highway and another vehicle was about to switch lane to merge into my lane and driver did not see me and almost got into an accident. When I try to use the horn to alert tge other vehicle, horn did not work. It still doesn't work. Took my vehicle to millenium hyunday dealership in hempstead, NY and was told by service advisor that horn is only covered up to 60,000 mike's because is an electronic feature. I disagree with that assessment and believe this is a safety feature that needs to be reevaluated.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2026

While driving the vehicle the other night, the cars electrical system completely shut off for a few seconds before popping back on. The whole car inside and out went completely black. It was around 10pm on a dark country road. I had the seat heater on high and the defrost on high because it was cold. It appeared to happen when the auto high beams were supposed to engage. Instead of them engaging, the whole cars electrical system just shut off. No headlights, no instruments, interior lighting, console display, nothing worked. The car was in battery mode at the time, and it sounded like the whole car just shutoff. I took my foot off the accelerator wondering what happened, and before I could understand what was going on, everything came back on. It did not prompt me to start the vehicle again. The auto on/off brights never worked like they were supposed to again either. I had to manually engage and disengage them. Thankfully it was just me on that stretch of road going 30mph at the time or it could have ended badly.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2025

Vehicle suddenly accelerated after pulling out of store parking lot at low speed into side street behind vehicle stopped at light (less than a car length in front) while pressing hard on brake. Vehicle lurched forward incrementally during the braking process, but vehicle kept accelerating causing vehicle to hit stopped vehicle numerous times before vehicle engine was finally turned off. Driver of both vehicles could have been seriously hurt. Vehicle was driven home after this incident without incident but has only been driven out of garage and onto and off towing truck. Car has not been inspected except for damage to vehicle and is currently awaiting insurance rep inspection at vehicle repair facility. Once damage is repaired car will be towed to dealership for inspection. Because of the short distance vehicle traveled no warning lamps/messages were noted.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2025

After a dealer-installed software update on my 2024 Hyundai Sonata sel awd, the car began jerking during acceleration and shifting. This happens at low and moderate speeds and creates an unsafe hesitation, especially in traffic. This issue did not exist before the update. I believe the software update affected the transmission or engine control calibration. The dealership has not resolved the issue, and it poses a safety concern. Please investigate whether this is linked to a faulty update affecting other Sonata vehicles.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2025

The daw (driver attention warning) system is obtrusive and a distraction to safe driving. The alert makes an audible "beep" and the drivers display lights up with a warning to "take a break". This alert will continue every 5 minutes if on a winding road until the car is stopped and the engine is turned off. When operating the vehicle in a safe manner keeping my eyes on the road and having the beeping and warning lights distracting me is quite the opposite of its intended purpose. In previous year models this could be turned off by the owner. This is not so with the 2024, 2025 models. This is not isolated to this vehicle but a search of the internet will find many frustrated owners all voicing their concerns. A safety alert system should not become a safety hazard. The dealer has no solution. The alert system cannot be turned off or it's sensitivity adjusted. The manufacturer has so far not responded to my complaints.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2025

My vehicles speedometer is always reading 1-4 mph faster than the actual speed I am driving at. For example cars speedometer would read 67 but only actually going 63. I’ve noticed it’s always 1mph off but whenever driving the car and turning it off to say get gas and turn right back on, the speedometer will begging reading 3-4 mph faster until leaving the car off for a few hours then it would go back to only reading 1mph faster again.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The speedometer is not always accurate. About 75-80% of the time at highway speeds the speedometer shows 4mph higher than waze. While I understand this could be a waze issue itself, I have completed the following test. I was driving at highway speed with my wife following me in her vehicle. My speedometer is 4mph faster than waze in my car, waze in her car and her speedometer. My waze, her waze and her speedometer all matched exactly. This is not a 1 time thing, it happens way more often than not.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2024

I purchased a new 2024 Hyundai Sonata hybrid limited on [xxx]. At about 2000 miles I noticed the speedometer of the car and the waze app were reporting different speeds. This is an intermittent problem so sometimes the vehicles speedometer and the waze app match and other times the vehicles speedometer and the waze app disagree. I've repeatedly taken this car to the dealership where I purchased it complaining about the problem and they can't seem to find a problem. Hyundai documented the problem is with waze and there's "delay" in the signal from the satellite to the waze app, even though I've stated my other vehicles speedometers and the vehicle speed reported by waze match. Hyundai documented this anomaly is what gives the vehicle it's "uniqueness. " yet they won't resolve this issue. There are several functions in the car that are dependent on the the vehicle's speedometer being correct and when the speedometer is incorrect, these other functions don't work properly either. I've taken the car onto freeways where there are measured mile postings. Sometimes when the speedometer indicates it's at 60 mph it takes 60 seconds to traverse the mile. Other times, when the speedometer indicates its at 60 mph it takes 63 seconds to travel the measured mile. It's not just my car, there are many other customers around the united states that are experiencing this problem and I/we can't seem to get Hyundai to address, fix this problem. My personal opinion is this; Hyundai knew about this problem before they put the car out to the market for sale. So Hyundai knowingly sold a defective vehicle, before they sold the first one of these vehicles. Other Hyundai Sonata owners complaining about speedometer [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

My car when shut off and restart will show the wrong speed. I am not the only person who has been dealing with this and you can look up 2024 Hyundai Sonata n line speedometer and a reddit post will come up with other people dealing with this. Hyundai is not willing to deal with this even after proving it was off.
