1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Ever since I had a new engine put in my car, my car hasn't been the same. It acts like it doesn't want to go when pressing the gas pedal right after (was told it was the eco mode), then my dash started to crack, now is extremely cracked which has an air bag, gas gage has a mind of its own, burning a severe amount of oil a week so there is no point in changing the oil, oil light never once comes on letting me know its low, no oil on my driveway or under the hood, interior dome light sometimes doesn't shut off, the brake lights short out on a monthly basis and get pulled over by the cops all the time. Now with only 50,000 miles on the new engine, I take it back to the dealership because its smoking when I crank it, doesn't accelerate sometimes going down the road when I press the gas, then starts smoking, headlights flicker, engine light stays on and low tire light stays on (even after getting new tires & alignment). Took it in yesterday, Hyundai is stating my oxygen sensors, catalytic converter & gaskets and intake manifold need to be replaced at $3,177. The car isn't even worth that much. This is not the reason why my car is using excessive amounts of oil, smoking when I crank it and acts like the engine is about to blow up. Then they come back to tell me it needs the above, plus an engine replacement but out of goodwill they will only charge me 20% ($2,000) with no loaner car. Its going on 3 weeks now. The corporate office is useless and very rude. I have a voicemail stating this is the highest customer service department and once the decision has be made, those decisions are fianl and its up to you to decline or accept our offer. it's the engine, again! which then lead to other issues! I will never buy another Hyundai again!! this car has caused nothing but money and time, complete waste of junk!.

Was driving on access road and the esc off light came on and the car started to stall- unable to accelerate. Had to pull to side of the road on wurzbach parkway. Took it to shop and had cam shaft, crankshaft sensors removed and replaced. Had $700 of other work done and car worked great for 2 weeks. Unfortunately today while driving home from esc off light came on and car was unable to accelerate. Luckily I got to safety but could've been killed if I wasn't so lucky. . . Pretty ridiculous problem to have especially as so many people are reporting the same problem. . .

I was driving on the highway and on the street and while I was doing so the car put on the brakes by itself. One to two months ago I took the car to the dealer and I told them about it but they said that the care needs 2 updates, apparently the car has two recalls. 6 hours later after the update the care wasn't working properly and they kept the car for 3 to 4 days, I got a loner by then. Last week Wednesday 08/05/2020 I took the car again to report the problem and I was told the care would be ready in 5 hours but after 5 hours it wasn't. Since I didn't feel safe in the car I told them to keep the car and give me a loaner because the car is going to take one week to fix because they have to order parts, they want to keep the car but they didn't want to give me a loaner. I contact Hyundai corporate to report this incident because it is twice already, and I was told that someone would be in contact with me in the next 48 hours. I missed the call and I have been trying to call to get in contact with them again to fix the problem but every time I call they come with another excuse. Something that Hyundai didnt fix and other dealers charged me and my issue still wasnt fixed. All together I wasted almost $1100 to find a way to fix my issues and nothing was fixed. The second issue I was told was heat box and actuator but it wasnt fixed because Hyundai tried to charge me $3,041. 84. . . . . I know alot of. Things are apart of these recalls this car have but no one even Hyundai was willing to fix it free of charge.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

2015 Hyundai Sonata se caught on fire after being parked in apartment building parking lot on 1/12/20. Car was serviced at certified Hyundai dealership repair shop on 1/10/20 for recall work and to investigate oil pressure light that would come on and off intermittently. Repair shop claimed there was an oil leak and recommended an oil change/valve cover gasket replacement (last oil change just under 5000 miles prior). Car began smelling as if something was burning later after leaving repair shop, as well as the next day, so shop was called back on 1/11/20 and message was left that it needed to be brought back in on Monday morning (1/13/20). Oil pressure light did not come back on, however, nor did any other warning lights. Car was driven sparingly in the neighborhood primarily for work purposes over the weekend and parked after approx. 12 minute commute home from work on Sunday evening (1/12/20). I returned a little over an hour later to discover the situation and learned that the fire dept. Had already come and gone. Immediately called police/fire dept. To find out what had happened and was informed that neighbors had called the police due to seeing it on fire about 10-15 minutes after I had parked the car. I am unclear of the exact nature of the problem, though oil appears to have been leaking (and burning - some light smoke was visible under hood on 1/11 & 1/12) after repairs, and fire is said to have started in the engine compartment. Insurance company was immediately notified as well and deemed the vehicle a total loss and towed it away for further investigation as to cause of fire on 1/14/20. Dealership where car was serviced 2 days prior is of concern since car appeared in worse condition after repairs than before, but I am uncertain of their liability in this case.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

The rear brake light bulbs located in the trunk compartment get extremely hot which has caused melting of the light assembly. This is an extreme fire hazard. It is believed that this is caused by faulty wiring by Hyundai. Since purchasing the vehicle in 2015, I have replaced approximately 20 bulbs.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

On November 23, 2019 I started my car and proceeded to back out of my drive way. My power steering locked, the light came on along with my traction control light. I had to force my steering wheel to turn my car back into my driveway to get it off the roadway. I turned my car off, and back on and lights disappeared and I had control again. A few weeks later, driving down the road my steering got tight and fought my car to get it home. I got it towed to the dealership. They told me the whole power steering column had to be replaced. There was also a recall on a clicking noise I had been hearing for a few months in the steering column. They refused to think it was there problem. Today January 2, 2020 I was driving on a straight road, going 55 miles per hour. Traction control light came on and power steering. I lost control of steering my car. I had just enough time to get my car off the road to avoid getting hit. I turned the car off, and the lights seized. This car is very unsafe to drive and Hyundai is doing nothing to fix the problem other than giving expensive bills to fix. The car is not even 3 years old, there should not be this many problems already. Also paint is randomly peeling on the roof and hood of my car.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/28/2019

On 7/17/19 my car lost power while driving on city street. Unable to steer or control vehicle. Took to dealer who said there were no error codes shown and that it was the electric oil pump. On 8/12/19, the same thing happened while driving on expressway. Complete power failure while vehicle was in motion. Unable to steer or control car. Took back to dealer. Again, no error codes found. They later claimed that a relay had melted and that was the problem. On 12/28/19, again driving 70mph on busy expressway, vehicle lost all power and I was unable to steer car. Took to dealer on 12/29 after it happened a second time in two days. There were unable to look at vehicle that day and told me to bring back next day. It stalled again while I was leaving parking lot, I asked the maintenance tech to come and look to see what was happening, he refused. Dropped car off on 12/30. On 1/2/20, dealer called to say no error codes found, after driving 100 plus miles, were unable to determine cause of problem and I should pick up my vehicle. I explained this is unacceptable. They called me back later claiming it is the electric steering column portion of motor control power steering rack and want $1800 to fix. This is a major safety issue, loosing complete power and ability to steer while driving. Dealer has done nothing to reassure me that this is the actual problem.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

"hybrid system warning safely stop and do not drive" message come up on the display. This has happened three time. The first time at a stop light, and the motor kept revving and would the car would jump forward while pressing the brake. After getting off the road, parked, killed the car and cranked it back up. The message cleared. I turned the car on and off a couple times and made a trip round the parking lot, stopping, sifting gears, etc. . . With no luck of duplicating the issue. The second time two months late, I was just parked and the message came on as I was killing it. I tried cranking the car but kept getting the error and the eps came on but the car didnt crank and could not get it out of park. Multiple on and offs the car full cranked up and was able take it out of park and drive for test spin around the parking lot, test the gears from d to p . . Never got it to do it again. A week later driving down the freeway the light came on and had to pull off on the shoulder. Turned the car on and off and all the lights cleared. About a month later got in the car to got work and the same message came on along with a check engine. The car cranked but the message wouldnt go away after multiple on/off's and shifting of gears. I should mention that when you shift through the gears the the light on the dash line up. I never have problem while switching gear from p to r or drive. Most while driving/stopping or after parking going from d to p. Looks like it will be towed in to the dealer now.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid I have been back and forth to the dealer several times in regards to my car shutting down on me. In the middle of me driving it will start beeping loud and while losing power the panel reeds pull over safely and shut engine off. The second time I take it to the dealer he said don't allow the gas to get two 1/4 of a tank. So I had kept it at half a tank and yet again it lost all power and shut down on me in the middle of driving. Totally not safe! take it back to the Hyundai dealer and was told the battery and everything looks okay. I was sent home again! then one morning my car would not start. I read a forum that said jiggle the shift around or put it in drive and then back up to park and then press the button for it to start. It literally worked and I took a video of me doing those steps. I took the car back to Hyundai dealer show them the video. I also told them that the forum said to replace the inhibitor switch. The mechanic agreed but yet puzzled about the car shutting down on me. This happened again yesterday Friday Feb 28, 2020 and I called today they said may be looked at on Monday. So my car is yet at the dealer until the engineers are able to look at it. I'm tired of getting my car back and having the same issues over and over again. My car has around 87,000 miles and yet under warranty until 100,000 miles. I should not have to pay for these dangerous issues. I called a few times to see if there was a recall on my car but no recall. I just bought this car in November of 2019 and the issue started a week later the day after thanksgiving. It is now February 2020 and I'm yet dealing with these issues. I'm totally at wit's end. It won't let me upload the video but here are a few pictures!.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/20/2019

The problem started with external light bulbs going out. Had to replace 4 in the matter of couple months. Smell of burning rubber (thought it was gas) , radio restarting automatically. One day was driving down a road, all the sensors started flickering, the vehicle lost power, engine shut off ,came to a stop. I managed to restart the vehicle in couple minutes and drive it the nearest shop. Happened at 78 k miles. The shop said they cannot fix this problem, had to take it the dealership where it is now. Will take a week to fix and well over a thousand dollars in cost. Absolutely unacceptable electrical issue in such a young vehicle, Hyundai needs to take responsibility and have a recall. Looks like its a very common issue in this model.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/05/2019

Was getting ready to move from nc to la. During acceleration all the lights on the dash came on. The vehicle was still in motion, stumbled and then died shortly afterwards. Had a hard time steering and braking, but luckily there was no vehicle around. Vehicle was towed to a mechanic shop where they diagnosed the engine as failing/seized. Recall 132 was performed, but engine was not replaced and only inspected. Recall description : gdi engine inspection/replacement. ; completed : may 23, 2018.

35 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/04/2019

In motion going 20 mph passenger side air bag deployed without accident. Air bag busted on my head, back, and right side of my face. With a powdery sharp film on me. Air bag recall was not fixed by the dealership. I reported it to Hyundai which lead to countless email with no repairs made. Seat and door panel is ruined with a crack in the windshield that has spread. Engine had been stalling and producing white smoke from the tailpipes. While in motion car completely shuts off and will not come back on. Dash board lights up goes off comes on displays key not in vehicle when the key is in the armrest plugged in. Brake pedal freezes up preventing the car to start. Radio does not work check engine light blinks on and off when car is in motion. Reach out to Hyundai webb on route 30 in merrillville, in. They had the vehicle for a month due to the engine recall and turbo recall. They forced me to pick the vehicle up after having it for a month. In motion from the dealership the car cuts off. I get it back on a big cloud of white smoke produces and cuts off again while in traffic. Prior to picking the car up the manager of the shop called informed me to come pick it up and bring a battery due to the battery in the car is dead. The car is at the dealership. . . They did not have the courtesy to charge to battery to test the work that was done. I take a battery up there they keep the car for another week or 2. When I pick it up the armrest is broken they put a screw in the positive cable post to hold the post in place; I guess. There are ashes on the floor as if someone was smoking in the car, put different color antifreeze in the antifreeze reservoir; meaning they mixed the fluids that would cause more problems. I called the manager again immediately and told him the car is doing the same things. Told me to drive the white smoke out, car is not safe to drive don't stay running.
