The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, he started to smell an abnormal burning odor, and the front vehicle started smoking. There were several unknown lights illuminated. The contact’s son attempted to pull over and the brake pedal was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact's son applied the parking brake and was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle caught fire. No injuries nor medical attention were needed. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report and fire department report were filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The insurance company had not yet deemed the vehicle destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while in an undisclosed store, she was notified by the store p. A. Giving a description of her vehicle was on fire. The contact stated that after she exit the store, she noticed that her vehicle was inflamed from the front end of the vehicle to the rear of the vehicle. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was required. The fire department was notified, and the fire was extinguished. The contact stated that she was informed by the fire department that the origin of the fire was engine related. A police and fire report filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. Additionally, the contact stated that a year ago she had received the NHTSA campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the engine was replaced, and the recall was completed. The dealer nor the manufacture were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

The contact owned a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle caught fire without warning. No warning lights illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The fire department was notified and was able to extinguish the fire. The origin of the fire was unknown. The contact sustained a burn to her inner left ankle. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the insurance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

The contact noticed there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. Upon inspection, there were flames coming from the engine compartment. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A fire department report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard; however, the vehicle was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with the eps, battery, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot and park the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and noticed that there was smoke coming from the engine compartment before it caught fire. The contact went to a nearby store and grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. The contact and his wife did not sustain any injuries and no medical attention was received. No police or fire department reports were filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was diagnosed nor repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

Vehicle caught fire while parked and unoccupied. It seems as though the fire could have originated at the base of the driver's seat, causing damage to the interior of the vehicle and body.
