1 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

2 major problems with this car. One is a brake issue and one is transmission issue I do have approximately 160k on the car now. The transmission issue goes back to when the car had approximately 40 to 50 k on it and was taken to dealer because of severe banging from one gear to another. . Periodically it has done this since then. . Dealer could not get it to do it. . And said it could be normal. . Car is well taken care of and now needs transmission. . Brakes have done wierd things. Once needed towing because of zero brakes, full hard pedal, no brake light on or any kind of warning. . Luckily I was in a slow drive thru. . Towed and parked car. . 2 days later . . Everything is good. . Bizarr at the least if not absolutely dangerous.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

While car is in motion, on highway or anywhere at anytime, the check brake warning light comes on display screen, with an beeping alarm, then the brakes drop to floor barely stopping the vehicle with a grudging noise. I went to the dealer, they gave me the option to replace the abs system but was not sure of the exact problem and tried to sell me a newer car. This company already has lots of recalls and has put many people's lives in danger. This issue is happening to many other vehicles the same as mine and they are not safe for anyone.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/09/2018

I have had to change my break lights 8 times since January. Both my rear left and right brake lamps keep burning out constantly, even though I've replaced the bulbs many times. I have now received 2 warnings about it. I have taken my car into Hyundai and after a lot of frustration they do a temporary fix then it happens again. This is huge safety issue, as brake lights are required by law, and if they aren't working properly, they pose a huge risk to driver and those around. Other sonatas are on recall for this but I am being told my VIN does not qualify. In additions I am having issues with my steering coupler. I have been dealing with this since 96k miles on the car and again my VIN is not covered and they want 500 to fix a $4. 00 part.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/23/2015

Stopped at a intersection, brake light warning came on, car would not move. Towed to Hyundai dealer, hydraulic booster had short, hydraulic booster replaced. Wondering why the electronics do not have a dual channel operation to alleviate the possibility of being stranded in an undesirable or dangerous location.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

I purchased sky blue 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid limited on August 31st, 2014. I drove the car for approximately two weeks, during this time I noticed and felt when I braked the car did not stop immediately, there was a delayed effect. At this time the break light illuminated. I checked the manual which indicated the car cannot be driven in this state and immediately took the car in for a checkup and service to dealership on September 19th, 2014 so that the illuminated break light could be checked. The technician spent five days on the car and discovered low brake fluid level on a brand new vehicle with 637 miles on the odometer. The cause reason loose fitting. " low brake fluid level on a brand new vehicle with 637 miles" I had a further service on the vehicle at dealership on December 27th 2014 for having 3500 miles on the odometer. I requested a detailed brake check due to the earlier issue but they assured me it had been made correction. On January 6th 2015 I had just picked up my son from preschool and was headed to mcdonalds to buy my son lunch. My speed was 30 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. I remembered very vividly applying the brakes; the car just did not stop and hit the car in front of me. The brakes were applied with sufficient time and severity but the vehicle did not react or stop. My feeling is that the brake light incident was the precursor to an allegedly defective breaking system which could be an inherent defect allegedly.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

While coming to a stop at a traffic light, my brakes malfunctioned. The brake warning light came on and the peddle became slack. The peddle fell to the floor. I was able to stop the car before entering the intersection. After a moment the brake warning stopped and the brakes worked again. This happened again as I was parking my car in the driveway. I have video of both incidents. Dealer has been notified, but is not able to schedule a repair for 5 days. It will have to remain parked as I am concerned about safety.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

On October 11, 2013 I was driving vehicle at about 30 mph. The traction, brake, and check engine light started flashing. The engine started to accelerate & decelerate at random and vehicle jerked (intermittently) all mentioned lights then stayed on constantly. Vehicle was driven to dealership. Dealership scan tested & found steering angle sensor code in history, then recalibrated steering angle sensor. Vehicle was also serviced for recall regarding lower control arm (replaced). 2nd incident occurred on 10/22/13. I started car in the morning, and all the lights came on. Vehicle was shut off and then towed to same dealer. Service technician could not "duplicate" code. I was told by service that car was fine/operable. 3rd incident occurred on 10/23/13. I was driving and vehicle brake light, & trac light came on. Car was again jerking/surging and accelerating and decelerating at random. Vehicle scanned by technician and multiple "can" codes and steering angle sensor communication code found in history. Technician called technical assistance and was advised to replace motor driven power steering unit, replaced steering column with power steering unit, all ok after repairs (per dealer). Rental car charge incurred totaling $26. 28. 4th incident occurred on 1/2/14. I was driving vehicle and traction control lights, brake light, and abs brake started flashing. Trac light then stayed on constantly. Car began jerking (again) and accelerated/decelerating. Vehicle taken to different dealership. Service writer test drove car while I was in vehicle, and stated there was something definitely wrong w/vehicle and that it wasn't safe to drive. Rental car obtained. Technician looked at car, called support, and was told to charge hybrid battery. Service writer called back and stated that car was ready to be picked up. I refused to pick car. . .

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/28/2012

Proceeded to back out of parking space. Brakes began making loud grinding noise. Pulled back into parking space when brakes failed. Brake failure light and chime was activated. Vehicle would not stop and hit the concrete handicap sign stopping the car. Previously had problem with navigation unit which was replaced once and ready for second replacement. Told service manager we thought it may be electrical related, not defective units. Believe the problem with navigation unit is related to the brake failure. After accident, Hyundai had automotive engineering consultants examine car. Hyundai said there was nothing wrong. However, service manager at dealer said the car had main hydraulic failure and new part was ordered. If nothing was wrong, why was hydraulic unit replaced. Hyundai refused to do anything.
