Intermittent loss of power "sputter" at any speed with solid mil. Releasing the throttle clears the condition and the mil goes out. Vehicle drives normally with no warning indicators until next occurrence. Cause unknown at this time, began happening a few weeks after engine long block replacement under warranty campaign.

I had two case numbers with Hyundai related to my brakes and fuel efficiency; the first was Hyundai consumer affairs case#: 12894630 and the second was Hyundai consumer affairs case#: 15512885. Both cases were closed prior to me having any say in the decision (email/phone records show this). After my braking unit fails for the second time and I noticed a significant drop off in fuel performance (mpg), I asked for another Hyundai rep to test my fuel consumption. When the results proved to be better than I had ever seen my car perform, ever, I asked for the rest specks. This was escalated to Hyundai corporate, who responded unfortunately your case manager cannot provide any TSB's because it is proprietary information. As far as warranty extension, regrettably that is not an option. However, if you were to have brake concerns outside of warranty, Hyundai will review for goodwill if the problem is something that was previously repaired under warranty. this answer failed to consider the mileage I was already losing in my hybrid which performed worse than a non-hybrid model whenever the brakes were failing. I made good faith efforts to report my problems in the hope Hyundai would resolve them.
We have had multiple issues with the car accelerating. The vehicle will not respond immediately when pressing the gas pedal. We have had the car worked on by Hyundai 12-15 different times and it continues to have the same issue time and time again. We do not feel safe in the vehicle. The last time that we had the issue was in October of this year and we have not been able to drive the vehicle since that time. Hyundai will not help us get out of the vehicle even though it has had the safety concerns. Recently we found out that the vehicle also had a recall on the air bag and they did not have a fix for the issue. We have come close to wrecking the vehicle multiple times. Thankfully that has not happened or we may have not even had an airbag to protect us. There has been close to $25000 worth of work done to the vehicle and they have never been able to fix the issue properly. We do not trust the vehicle and will not put our family at risk any longer. We need help to get out of the vehicle financially as we have a vehicle that is not safe to drive. It is not safe for us or anyone else on the road.

On this past labor day, which was 9/3/2018, I pulled into a gas station to refuel my car. Shut off car and had key fob with me. Pumped the fuel and got back in the car. Nothing. Car was inoperable. Pressed the start button, pressed the brakes, shifted from drive to neutral and back, pressed the brake and the start button again and nothing. Dashboard lit up like a christmas tree with the key fob light on, the check engine light on, etc. Called bluelink. They transferred me to a "phone prompt" switchboard. Problem is the phone screen would not operate as it was frozen as well. Called again, lady stayed on the phone with me and transferred me. Then when transferred she was about to hang up with the message read they were closed. Wtf? I am supposed to have roadside assistance. Rep from bluelink told me to tow the car. There was nothing she could do as it was a holiday. Honestly, I was furious. I exited the car again and shut the door. Had the fob with me. Got back in and again, nothing. Could not even turn the steering wheel. Got out again and this time checked fuses, and turned switch off then on for all fuses. Nothing again. Repeated the steps as typed earlier, and nothing. About 20 minutes later I tried it again and it started. I have had my communications center replaced once already. Android auto worked when it felt like it. My sensors for blind spots turn off at will. My rear view camera works but the sensors don't always pick up oncoming cars or pedestrians. The car is going back tomorrow yet again. This time I am pushing for lemon law. The electrical system is critical to the functionality of the car. I love the mileage I get from this car and everything else is great, but I am not running the risk of driving on the interstate and the electronic system just decides to go on a vacation!.

While I was driving the car stopped and wouldn't start, all the lights came on,message on dashboard read "hybrid system error" "check charging system" than everything went off, no power, no emergency lights, this in the middle of a busy street. Luckily a sheriff's was nearby and rerouted cars. Very scary. Seems I am not the only one that has a similar experience. This happened when I was going to work at 7:45am at s very busy intersection. Car is at mechanic's shop.

Reported originally in NHTSA 11084763 while driving on highway at highway speed again the car died with no warning when the hybrid system went out and lost all acceleration and ability to steer car. The car would start but would not engage in gear and was in "limp" mode but was unable to "limp" off the highway. Car was towed to dealership and the electric water pump to cool hybrid system was bad but I had taken the car to the dealer twice before to complain that the car was not driving or accelerating properly. I kept being told that it could not be replicated and "no codes" are being thrown. This is a serious safety problem that Hyundai should fix and train their service people to identify before the car just dies on the highway with no warning. This is the second major problem I have encountered with this Sonata Hybrid and it is scary when a car just stop unexpectedly on the highway with no warning.
In September 2015 the trans. Was replaced in the car. The car was kept for 1 week for repairs. I replaced a battery 12/13/2016, and have had to have at least 12 battery problems. The radio will go out, and within a week to 2 the battery is dead, resulting in my insurance company coming out to start my car. On may 1, 2017, I had a diagnostic done, and they could not find a problem. They recommended trying to replace the radio, but were not sure it would correct the problem. A radio was purchased/replaced 8/2/17,and the problem has continued. Below are the dates of occurrences: 9/14/15-transmission- car went out while driving on highway dead battery: 1/22/16 7/30/16 10/2/16 10/13/16 12/11/16 4/30/17 7/30/17 10/16/17 1/2/18 4/18/18 I have a copy of all claim forms.

Hev check hybrid system. Car would not start. Car dropped @ dealer on 4/16/18 @ 0830. Today is 4/24/18. Car started after waiting 15-20 mins. Check engine light still on when dropped at dealer.
Vehicle was traveling on freeway at 70 mph when a fatal error code flashed and said stop car after 20 seconds the vehicle stopped and all electrical systems died (not enough time to safely pull to the side (no 4-way flashers operable). Towed to dealer and dealer stated the lithium battery was 3 volts causing the issue and blowing the safety plug causing the vehicle to stop with no electrical operation. I asked why there is no warning that allows the driver to know that the lithium battery will fail causing this fatal issue. They confirmed that there is no advanced warning, when the battery dies it shuts down the vehicle quickly within 20 seconds. This happened at night on a busy freeway and could have resulted in a major traffic collision as the vehicle is black.
1: at the beginning of October 210, when the motorway exits from east to west, suddenly the engine does not work (pictured) and the car decelerates directly from 70 miles to 30 miles. The brakes can not work fully. Step on the gas pedal must step on multiple steps to relax the throttle, depress the accelerator again, from the second move to most of the most outside high-speed, do not know do not know about the crash above the speed. Such a high speed, I go home, stop the flame, and then open everything is normal. Later, dealer repair can not find the problem, until now there are three total failures, manufacturers repair is not good, do not solve the problem, it has been dragging.
Car has 65k miles. Warning "chime" came on, total loss of power, pulled of road safely. Warning light on dash came on . . . Hybrid system warning. . . Safely stop. . . Do not drive. . . Then. . . . Check brake. . . . Then back to hybrid system warning. . . Do not drive. . . . Then back to check brake. And on and on. I shut off the car after a minute and restarted car drove another several miles and then same situation. I have seen a video post on youtube and have seen other posts as well and one with a vehicle having only 3500 miles. I'm trying to see that this should be a major safety concern as shutting down completely is not acceptable and totally unsafe.
Was driving vehicle and "check charging system" message displayed on the console. The vehicle lost power, I could not accelerate so I had to manevour to the far right of the freeway to come to a stop. Turned off the vehicle then re started. Check engine light remained on.
The car does not accelerate from a stop position at a light or during stop and go traffic on the highway. The car also jerks from transmission problems causing the driver to be distracted.
Abrupt and total loss of acceleration at full throttle at or near high rpm shift points. This behavior can be reliably reproduced by "flooring it" (all the way, including kickdown) and not letting go - as if one is executing a passing maneuver. The power loss will occur at the next shift point after kick down, and will not be cleared until the accelerator pedal is released and re-applied - or after approximately 15 to 20 seconds after the occurrence if the driver does not release the pedal. In cases where the pedal is not released after the power loss, the vehicle will surge suddenly after the condition has cleared and repeat the behavior described above. This behavior can be reproduced in any drive program mode (eco, normal, sport,) and in both automatic and manual shift selection modes, and is especially prevalent at speeds above 45 mph where sudden full throttle command causes kickdown. The drivetrain should respond reliably when it is commanded full-throttle. A sudden power loss at a shift point during a full throttle maneuver is unsafe: (1) it disorientates the driver and; (2) causes un-commanded, unexpected, and rapid changes in driving force, weight distribution, friction, and reaction forces which could lead to a loss of control.
Hybrid system warning! safely stop and do not drive. 1st occurrence miles - 42,143. 2nd occurrence miles - 42,276 this is the second time in a week I'm taking the car into the dealer for the same hybrid malfunction. The car gave me the hybrid warning, then while trying to pull the car over safely, the car lost all power and stalled. This occurred on a busy city street. Steering is also an issue, the car does not track strait. The car's steering constantly has to be corrected to track strait.
Car stopped in the middle of local street road and not able to be driven to move to side of road. Car towed to delaer for repair. Want to warn about this danger to other owners. We were lucky since no one was behind us when the car immediately stopped in the middle of the road. Car was repaired by delaer as follows. Tech scan codes and found codes u1007, p1775, p1774. Tech check a/t fluid, red color, smell normal. Reset codes, codes come back. TSB provided by tech line. Tech follow TSB#14-hc-003, result to replace oil pump control unit and recheck. After replacing oil pump control unit, same problem present. Tech replace oil pump, and found open yellow wire from oil pump unit to oil pump. Car runs normal and no codes present at this time. Tech try to put the old oil pump and pump module back in, problem happened again. Tech confirm the pump and module are bad. New oil pump and module reinstalled. Car under warranty and repair was successful. Delaer did a good job keeping me informed on the progress, even though it took longer than expected to repair the car.
This is my second 2012 Sonata Hybrid. The first one had so many engine issues that Hyundai replaced it with another 2012 Sonata Hybrid. I have taken it in 5 times. For the same issue. Around 20mph the car will not accelerate then it jerks forward. I almosy got hit on the highway because it wont accelerate. Several weeks ago the stop safely do not drive hybrid warning came on and thr car wouldnt go. Had ot towed. They found code p0717. They replaced input output speed sensors but the problem continues still. It also jerks when it changes from hybrid to gas. This car is dangerous. They cannot seem to find the problem. Mileage 51000-55000.
I bought this 2013 hybrid new about 6 months ago. There are 2 main issues I have had with the car. First: the problem is the car sometimes goes about 3 mph for approximately 25 feet before lurching with great acceleration. I drove with the 'energy flow' mode on the display to see what was showing when this problem was occurring. According to the owner's manual the display was showing the "engine generation/motor drive" (to decelerate the vehicle, engine braking is used while the regenerative braking is applied and also charges the hybrid battery. [engine>battery>wheel]). This sounds like a deceleration mode, but should this be happening when my foot is pressing the gas pedal? it has occurred when I have slowed to make a left turn and also when accelerating from a dead stop. It happens when I am applying steady pressure or pumping the pedal. This can be a huge potential problem/accident waiting to happen if I am attempting to turn or cross a road with oncoming traffic because I may not be moving fast enough to cross before the traffic gets to me. Even if they were over a hundred feet away when I started the turn/to cross the intersection. Second: as has been previously mentioned by others, there is a 'thump' felt at times while braking. It is felt in the driver's seat and through the brake pedal and also felt by the passenger's through their seats. The best way to describe it would be the feeling of being rear-ended and pushed forward several inches. As driver, my head is usually an inch or two away from the head rest and when this happens my head hits the headrest or the headrest hits my head. The brake pedal itself is not affected, as there is no feeling of losing the brake/not slowing down. It's just a 'thump' felt.
The Sonata Hybrid has a major flaw and it's the gas mileage. I was told I would get at least 45 mpg with sensible driving and that was a lie. On cold damp morning and after a cold fog there would be condensation all over the front and back windshields to the point where water droplets would run onto the dashboards and back seats. Also the car has a safety issue with the low beam head lights at night especially in the country. At 50 mph you out run your head lights and can't see far enough ahead of you to stop in time if sometging runs across in front of you.
Day after purchase, beeps and notification to pull over and check charging system. Had car towed one week later car was returned to us. Dealer installed a new battery. Running fine except brakes make a noise when depressed quickly. March 28th, 11 months later coming home from florida, driving on interstate 95 late at night in stop & go traffic, beeps and notification to pull over and check charging system. Pulled car over shut off. Restarted car and continued driving. Check engine light stayed on for 24 hrs. Returned to dealer that week could find nothing wrong with charging system. And could not duplicate braking sound at dealership, but still making noise sporatically. May 15th, late on a Saturday night, stopped to make left hand turn, I started to accelerate, half way into the turn, car would not accelerate, bells and notification to check charging system. With traffic coming towards me, I had to shut down engine and restart again. If oncoming traffic was slightly faster I would have been hit. Check engine light stayed on overnight but went off the next day. Returning to dealer this week. Don't expect any positive results as last time they said they cannot find anything wrong. I loved my car, however driving it now makes me very nervous!.
Slowly accelerating up a small hill at approximately 3 to 5 mph. Began to break at top of hill which is at the exit of a very busy road. Suddenly car began to accelerate without my foot on the gas or on cruise. I had foot on the brake when this happened. I had to break harder to avoid being hit by 4 lane traffic. Car moved about a foot after brake was applied harder.
The vehicle lurches forward during deceleration thus pulling pressure off of the brake pedal and causing you to put even more pressure on the brakes to compensate. Vehicle will slide on icy roads at this point. Vehicle also has little to no acceleration on electric motor after the vehicle is hot. Making a left turn from a stop with oncoming traffic is hazardous since the vehicle can take up to 7 seconds before it accelerates enough to complete the turn and clear the oncoming lane. Both problems seem related. The first would appear to be free wheeling with no engine type braking applied while switching from engine to electric. The second would be from no electric motor engagement during initial acceleration from a stop or slow to turn maneuver.
When accelerating from a stop, the vehicle takes excessively long time to go from 0-25 mph, so much so , that when merging into traffic it has unpredictable acceleration. At various times I would step on the gas pedal and sometimes it would have a 3-5 second delay before going forward. When it finally accelerates sometimes it has a popping sound and often the car lurches. I have brought it in 3 times for Hyundai to find the problem but each and every time they have said they were not able to find anything wrong with the car.
I have had this 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in the shop since I purchased it in 2011 new the car has serious car hesitation and gas mileage is 19 to 30 per gallon. I have had numerous problems with oil leaks and ended up with a blown motor at 60,000 miles. I also have numerous service issues with the blower ac/ heater not working as well. The car is a lemon after 30 visits to dealership for repeated problems. I have taken car to 4 different dealerships to have a new set of eyes fix the problems and stuck with a rebuilt motor in may 2015. Car is back in the shop for hesitate and ecs problems as of June 2015. Need help.
