Air Bag Not Deploy problems of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

My son was driving my 2007 hyundia Tiburon, on the highway, when all of a sudden the car lost all it's stearing capability, he hit a speed limit sign vered off the road and went about 50 feet into the woods, the airbags never deployed. Luckly my son is ok, the car is a total loss. Why would the airbags not deploy with the front end is destroyed and the frame is bent.

My son is very lucky he wasn't hurt worse and after reading all the trouble with Hyundai airbags I am wandering why something hasn't been done to help correct the airbag issue since there have been many complaints on the internet. Hyundai evidentially doesn't want to take responsibility for this problem,the only thing we were told was that the only way the airbags will go off is if 2 sensors are hit. Well he took out the drivers side front end of the car and I can not understand how they consider this a safe car.
