I was driving and my car had a small metallic noise that got worse, and the engine turned off and did not start again. This happened on the ramp when I was entering a highway. I pull the car to the shelter and called for a trow.
My engine was fine and I've kept up with all of my oil changes and everything. I want to go get some recalls fixed on my car and afterwords now I need a new engine because my engine is tapping. A Hyundai of silsbee texas tells me that I need to give them $300 and they will diagnose it and then let me know if the recalls affected my engine. When I brought my car in there was no problems with my engine. I'm a single mom and I don't have the money to give Hyundai to try to diagnose my vehicle.
Driving on highway engine cuts shuts off. I let the car roll to the first off ramp in which I could not start the car again. Stuck in middle lane of exit until I got help to push car to side of the road.
On 12/5/2019, gas pedal failed to accelerate car while transitioning from highway 101 on-ramp to the highway lane. Was able to steer car to shoulder before momentum dissipated. Warning lights for oil and motor were illuminated on dash. No power steering. Turned off motor. Restarted car eventually. Warning lights not illuminated. Gas pedal worked. Drove about 30 minutes to dealer. Hyundai did agree to replace motor and I paid a fraction of the cost (6/2/2021). Since then, they have agreed to reimburse me for my cost. However, an oil leak was detected at the dealer two months (8/25/2021) after receiving the car + rebuilt motor. Dealer has tried 4 more times to fix the very slow oil leak. Leak is still not fixed. Service dept now not returning my call (2/2/2023). Have called Hyundai customer care 800# and obtained a case number.
Driving at highway speed without any notice engine quit had to pull over to the side of a very busy highway. Engine lights all came on and engine would not restart and made a a lot of noise while trying to turn over. Car had to be towed to dealership who is trying to get a new engine and associated parts we are now 6 weeks into it.
My car (2012 Hyundai Tucson) was effected by recall 181, announced in April of 2019. My engine seized while driving down the highway at 80 mph, luckily we were able to pull on to the shoulder safely. Had it been a mile or two down the road this would have happened in a tunnel and the outcome could have been dramatically different as there is no shoulder. I had the car towed to my local garage where they tested various things including starter, alternator, battery etc and determined the engine had seized. I had to have the car towed to the dealership and again after running diagnostic it was determined that the engine is seized. Now I am in a waiting game to see if Hyundai will do the right thing and replace the engine.
2012 Hyundai Tucson. Consumer writes in regards to safety recall.
Engine recall delay is making it extremely difficult to rely on vehicle. Changing oil and checking levels daily to mitigate risk of failure during drive. Manufacturer needs to step up recall repair efforts.
My engine seized with 61,500 miles on it. It was serviced regularly and all fluids had just been topped off for a 9 hour drive. Was driving on I-5 south 3 and a half hours into our drive and lost power, engine seized.
I was driving my car down a busier road when the engine had shut off and the car had stopped running. I could not get it jumped or started. I had not heard anything about a recall until I looked it up. I hadn't received any letters in the mail stated the recall on the car or I would not have been driving it. That was the last week of April. I am now getting frustrated because I'm making payments on a car that won't start and I can't drive. It's been over a month and I haven't heard anything.
Daughter driving down road. Vehicle started slowing down and warning lights came on. Vehicle died in middle of highway. Had to be towed and the shop believes it is the engine. Oil level was good and had been changed. Appears to be exactly what others are reporting.
This vehicle is in recall181. I have called Hyundai and they will not fix my vehicle until the have the parts to do. . . I rely on this vehicle to get me to dr appointments. I am disable veteran. I have changed several times over the last few months. Why cannt get my vehicle fix befoe one day it catch on fire.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. While driving, the rpms took longer than normal to engage during acceleration. Occasionally, the rpm dial would not move at all. Also, the abs indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and code: "p3018" and "shift delay" were located. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact planned to schedule an appointment at fuccilo Hyundai of syracuse (2601 erie blvd e, syracuse, NY 13224, (315) 445-7900) this week. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.
Driving on the on ramp of interstate and it cut off. All of the dash lights flashed once then it cut off. I was told by two different auto repair shops that the engine froze. Call dealership and was told that the 2. 4l engine was not manufactured anymore. It is sitting at an automotive shop waiting on an engine from a wrecked Tucson costing me $6,500 - 7,000 to put in. The car has approx. 159,000 miles also had to replace transmission around 103,000 miles.
On November 23, 2018, on rt 110 in farmingdale, NY. I heard something shatter but could still drive on the highway. I stopped and looked underneath but saw nothing. I drove away for twenty minutes and the engine fell out. I was stopped suddenly by the collapse of the engine.
I purchased this vehicle in August, 2018 as a used unit. Starting the next month I would be driving down the road and doing the same speed with no acceleration on my part and the motor would rev up by itself to 6000-8000 rpm and the vehicle does not gain any speed. This has happened intermittently described to my mechanic when I took in for an oil change and he couldn't figure out what could have happened. Thanksgiving day traveling about 95 miles to my brother's house and did the revving 3x's. Since thanksgiving the same problem has happened approximately 4 more times. This happens when the vehicle is in motion and maintaining the same speed. The speeds have been between 40 to 65 mph, so there isn't one set speed that it happens. Since it doesn't gain/lose speed it hasn't been a problem yet.
While on a trip to arizona driving about 70 mph on a highway in new mexico. The engine and car jerked really hard and the engine started knocking at around 77,500 miles. It ended up being a spun connecting rod bearing. Hyundai is replacing the engines on the santa fe and sonata but not the Tucson. I was running synthetic oil and a mobile 1 filter at the time. After going online it seems as if they didn't clean the oil passages in the crank shaft when they assembled the engine. The Tucson should be part of the engine replacement program. 2. 0 & 2. 4 engines have this issue.
While driving on the freeway I lost power in my car was able to pull over to the shoulder and had no power to the car wouldn't start, called triple a and towed to their nearest facility they diagnosed a seized engine and bad starter, because if Hyundai warranty had it towed to a Hyundai dealer, this was at the end of July 2018, they agreed the engine seized and bad starter, they approved it as under warranty. They do not know when they will have an engine as they are on back order worldwide.

The contact owns a 60 mph, the contact heard a loud pop noise and from the outside of the vehicle and the vehicle began to loss motive power and smoke coming from the front of the hood. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and open the hood and saw fire coming from the engine. The contact back up and waited for for police to come out to assist. The vehicle caught on fire in the driveway - it had not been driven or even started in over 28 hours. The fire started under the hood. The fire department was called and it was deemed a total loss. The insurance company did not conduct an investigation due to the age of the vehicle. The dealership did full brake work 10 days prior to the fire occurring.
On June 12th the Tucson engine started smoking despite being driven less than 2 miles from the house. The car was serviced on April 24 th at hetitage Hyundai in towson maryland with no problems reported. I have all service records going back to when the car was brand new. I was told the car needs a new engine. I am reporting this because I read a story that senator ben nelson of florida has made an inquiry about similar events with this model SUV in florida. I plan to alert my reps in congress as well.
While driving my car having just got off the freeway, the dashboard lights flashed briefly and then the engine went dead. Cars behind me had to serve to get around me. The car is only 6 years old and under warranty. The car is currently at the dealer being repaired due to an engine problem.
(kh - dealer info inadequate) tl the contact owned a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle shook abnormally. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and flames emitted from the engine compartment, which spread throughout the vehicle. The fire department was contacted and extinguished the fire. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. Nissan of hawthorne informed the contact that they would start an investigation. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was not provided.
Sudden loss of acceleration/power while driving car straight through a parking lot. Thank goodness I hadn't made it to the highway! all dash lights came on and car came to rolling stop. Turned car off and when I turned it back on there was a loud rattle in the engine while accelerating. Took it to a mechanic right away and was advised the engine would need replacement (though they did not take it apart to determine exact issue). Issue seems consistent with other complaints about this make/model and in line with the issues from the recent engine recalls on sante fe and sonata models. Car only has 82k miles and is now complete junk. Hyundai won't help.
I was driving down the highway and heard loud metal on metal noises. I immediately pulled off the road. I was told metal fragments were left in my engine during manufacturing. The metal lead to my engine blowing after 85,000 miles. The oil pan has metal shavings in it. The rods were thrown and it messed the bearings up. Dealership and corporate tell. E there is nothing they can do.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated to shift to a higher gear. The contact stated that the eps, oil, and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The contact was able to exit the highway. The engine started skipping and all power was lost. The vehicle was towed to danbury Hyundai (102 federal rd, danbury, CT 06810 (203) 730-4700) where it was diagnosed that the engine seized and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. Last week, while driving on a highway in rural nevada,in a passing zone, on a shallow uphill curve, attempted to pass a trash truck, accelerated to about 65 mph, and just as we more or less abeam the truck, the engine suddenly quit. We had enough momentum was able to complete pass and immediately pull over to side. Had there been oncoming traffic, that was judged to be far enough distance to safely pass, it is possible that with the engine quitting, could have resulted in a head on collision. The battery and alternator both tested ok. The oil level was full. All factory recommended maintenance had been complied with. The vehicle was towed back to carson city( about 80 miles). The dealer said the engine seized, cause unknown, without a teardown,.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while parked on a driveway, the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A police/fire department report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000. Djr.
2012 Hyundai Tucson. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle failure to get the fuel economy as advertised. The consumer stated subsequently, he began having trouble with the vehicle; on intermittent starts. The car would idle below 1000 rpm, shudder and misfire. The dealer was unable to locate a problem.
I should start by stating that this has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle since I got it last year. At random times, while driving, my vehicle will not allow me to go above 2500k rpms, even with the gas pedal fully depressed. This may happen while I am on a slow road or, as today, when I am on the highway. It is a safety concern because I will need to merge onto the highway or speed up for some other reason and suddenly I have no power. I will be going 30mph and entering a 70mph roadway. The only way to stop this is to pull over, turn the vehicle off, and then turn it back on. I have taken it to my Hyundai dealer multiple times and they have been unable to fix it or address it in any way whatsoever. It is a huge safety issue that they will not address.
Brand new car- a few days after purchasing and driving the car, noticed car was not driving right. Several symptoms became noticeable. Car would jerk when accelerating and braking. Cars pick up was delayed and had a very uncomfortable vibration, while in idle and while driving, to the point of getting nauseous while driving in the car. Took car to Hyundai service and told them of symptoms and my concerns of something not right with the car. The mechanics felt the problems I explained above and said something was wrong, now had to figure out what exactly. Several tests were done on the car but nothing showed up on electrical grid. Service had to call a higher tech out in California to see what to do next. California tech made them run several tests, all this took more then 2 weeks until they finally figured out that the engines throttle assy was defective and not functioning properly. They said that this also caused the sensor to malfunction. They replaced the throttle assy and claim the car is repaired. No longer trust car is safe to drive due to the electrical and engine defects that where found after the original inspections by the manufacture and the dealership failed to find these defects with the car and sold it.
