1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2026

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson is experiencing dangerous, sudden engine stalling, which are symptoms directly matching service campaign t1b. These critical safety issues surfaced following a total engine replacement in June 2025. Despite the vehicle being within the 12-month/12,000 mile workmanship warranty, the dealership is refusing to honor this coverage or offer goodwill assistance. My claim is based on a documented pattern of physical and technical negligence: - failure to update software: the dealership failed to perform the mandatory ecm/tcm software integration (campaign t1b) during engine swap, which is required to prevent the exact stalling I am now experiencing. - dismissal of warning lights (code p0456): one day after the engine replacement was “completed,” I returned to the dealership because the check engine light illuminated with code p0456. This was dismissed by the service provider without a proper diagnostic resolution, despite being a direct indicator of improper vacuum line reconnection during the engine installation. - mechanical negligence (coolant leak): post-engine swap, the vehicle developed a coolant leak, which was a direct result of improper reassembly. Additional proof of the lack of due diligence during the repair. The lack of follow-through, combined with the dismissal of a life-safety defect and poor physical workmanship, suggests a total failure in the case management process. I am urgently requesting assistance to resolve this hazardous situation.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2026

This car has major oil consumption that affects the engine and catalytic converter. This can cause engine damage and stalls in driving that affect safety on the roads because the car doesn't accelerate properly. There were no warning signals to indicate this being a problem with the car, especially at purchase. This car will get an oil change and in less than a week, the oil is gone and bone dry.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2025

Car engine seized and lost all power going 60mph down the highway at night with my child in the back seat. I have poured quarts and quarts of oil in this vehicle because it burns oil at an alarming rate until it eventually runs dry and the engine seizes. This is extremely dangerous and luckily my child and I were able to drift to the side of the road without harm and injury. Very discouraging that there are thousands of these cars and engines on the road that can literally seize up at any minute. Maintenance was performed and kept up with. The oil pressure light had been flashing when the vehicle turned but was flashing even when oil had just been changed. These engines are dangerous and have people in a financial hard spot. I still owe $16k on a car I can no longer drive and that Hyundai is saying due to owner maintenance will not get an engine replacement. The facebook group Hyundai oil consumption test has thousands of people dealing with the same exact issue on these cars and engines.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2025

While driving on the interstate at highway speed, my 2017 Hyundai Tucson lost power without any warning lights or prior symptoms. The vehicle experienced an immediate loss of propulsion while I was traveling in traffic, creating a dangerous situation because surrounding vehicles were also moving at highway speed & I had to quicky maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder with no power. The vehicle had approximately 73,861 miles at the time of the failure. After the incident, the vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership and diagnosed with a burned exhaust valve requiring replacement of the cylinder head & valve. The estimated cost of repair provided by the dealership was approximately 7550. The vehicle had no prior warning lights or symptoms before the sudden loss of power. A sudden engine failure resulting in loss of propulsion at highway speed presents a serious safety risk to both the driver and surrounding traffic. This was an extremely dangerous failure.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2025

I know there is a re-call for my vehicles engine and year with model. I am having serious issues with my vehicle related to the recalls for the same year and model. I feel unsafe driving my vehicle and now I do not know what to do.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2025

I've taken the vehicle to several mechanics for engine-idling when turning, going up-hill. I've purchased new plugs, lines, engine cleaners, no-one can figure it out. The oil now has engine shavings even though the oil was recently changed. The car broke down today.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2025

Engine was replaced but car kept sputtering only to find out the fuel injectors needing replacement.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2025

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson limited 1. 6l turbo (with 7-speed ecoshift dct) has ongoing transmission problems. The vehicle hesitates, jolts, and sometimes fails to accelerate from a stop, which creates a serious safety risk when entering traffic or crossing intersections. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the Hyundai dealership in fairfield, CT. They diagnosed the transmission and recommended a complete replacement at a cost of over $7,000. This issue matches the defect described in NHTSA recall 16v628000 and Hyundai service campaign t1b, which involved the same 7-speed ecoshift dct in 2016–2017 Tucson models. However, my VIN was not included even though I am experiencing the exact same safety defect. No warning lamps appeared before the hesitation/judder began. The safety risk is significant because the vehicle can fail to accelerate as expected in traffic, increasing the chance of a crash.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2025

Car cuts off when driving the speed drops down automatically stops the dash lights go out and can’t start it right away.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

My car has been burning oil for over a year. There is no leak. I have been putting three quarts in every 4 to 6 weeks. I have now replaced two coil packs and the spark plugs. My engine light is on because it said 3 and 4 was misfiring so I recently replaced those coil packs and now it said spark plug and I replaced it again as well. So the engine light coming on and what it says the problem is is wrong. Now when I push the gas it is knocking or missing. Not sure how to describe it. No one has looked at it other than a friend that is a mechanic and he says its probably the engine because this kind of car has these problems.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2025

1. After driving the car and turning it off, I get a loud bang coming from a gas tank. 2. Sometimes when making a hard right or left turn steering wheel vibrates, and the warning light for all wheel drive system comes on. When I turn the car off and restart it, it goes away. 3. After software installs due to recalls, when I accelerate my radio occasionally shuts off on its own, and then we’ll come back on on its own. 4. After turning the car off when I restart it occasionally the clock in calendar revert to 00:00 for the time and the date resets to 1/1/20.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2024

Greetings, I have had issues with the Hyundai Tucson 2017 I own for many months. Issues include among others an abnormal knocking noise from the engine, reduced engine power and/or hesitation, burning smell, oil leaking, and smoke coming out of the engine, misfires, and other issues. It happened many times on the highway and almost caused accidents and the last time it happened, the vehicle was towed, and recently the smoke coming from the engine forced me to pull over. I reported the issue to the dealer but they didn't recall or address the issue. The car has been maintained properly over time and now I fear for my life. It is totally unfair that about 100k of this brand have been recalled for the same issue, in my case it is just after I finished to pay in full the vehicle. I seek your support to have it addressed for safety.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2024

In June of 2023 at around 79,000 miles. I was driving on the highway and had a sudden loss in acceleration and would not go above 65 mph. During the inspection, the dealership ran the vehicle through 3 tests of oil consumption and it failed 2 out of 3 which did not result in a replacement of the oil pan system. My car continues to burn through oil at an increased rate (every 3000 miles). I know because the dip stick is completely dry when checking it. In July of 2024 at around 84,000 miles, while driving on the interstate, I experienced a loss in acceleration again. My Tucson would not accelerate over 65mph. I took it into the dealership and they found that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The replacement was estimated to cost around $5000. For each incident, there were no warning lamps that illuminated on the dash. The oil light did not come on nor did the engine light come on.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2024

6 June 2024 - sudden severe loss of engine power while driving, presenting potentially serious safety hazard in traffic situations. Check engine light illuminated during incident (not blinking). Driver was able to pull to side of road and shut off car, then after 2 attempts car re-cranked. Driver was able to crank and drive 5 miles home. Check engine code p1233 stored & retrieved by scanner, indicating fuel pump issue -- (potentially a low pressure fuel pump leak similar to Hyundai TSB 23-FL-004h?), which may present fire hazard from leaking fuel. Visual inspection of high pressure pump in engine bay - no noticed problems. Visual / olfactory inspection of area around gas tank - no noticed problems or smell of fuel, no indication of leaking. Briefly cranked engine, no noticeable leaks or sounds. No check engine light (though p1233 stored).

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2024

Four days while driving on streets and freeways in oklahoma city my 2017 Hyundai Tucson turned off and stalled. Lots of lights came on. Luckily I was able to get out of traffic without getting rear ended. I took the SUV to local Hyundai dealer and they couldn’t find the problem. The second time I took it to the dealer they replaced sensor crankshaft to clear lights that were coming on. Paid $209. 27 for multi point inspection and paid $412. 62 for second repair. I’m frustrated because I was without transportation for 4 days. Dealerships did not offer a car for me to drive.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

Unknown the car just start malfunctioning.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2023

Excessive oil consumption, vehicle hesitate and sputters when attempting to enter into traffic. Spark plugs expire early. We've been dealing with this worsening issue for 40k miles. My wife no longer feels safe driving this car. Dealership could not recreate the problem. They likely know what the problem is.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2023

Engine stalled in the middle of the highway. Could not get speed over 30mph to get out of the way of oncoming traffic even with the gas peddle pushed to the floor. Engine light flashing. Finally was able to get over to the side of the road with care bucking and jerking the whole way and stuttered to a stop.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

Vehicle stops changing gears, fuel pressure dropped while driving on highway. Vehicle does pickup speed over 40mph. No check engine light warnings. Vehicle can only change gears using manual mode and still does not pick up speed and fuel pressure is not sensed as pedal to the floor doesn’t make the engine move faster but makes the engine sound like a transmission issue is happening.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

When proceeding to move forward, the vehicle will sputter. Almost as if the vehicle is out of gas or not getting enough power to smoothly accelerate. This presents a very hazardous condition when leaving a red light or crossing an intersection. The vehicle jerks and sputters for about 2-4 seconds and then responds to the gas pedal and accelerates. Took it to the dealer and explained the problem and they said it's a known problem but there hasn't been a recommended fix and to drive the vehicle with the turbo mode on. Even with turbo mode on, the issue still persists.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

Hello, I'm contacting you the nationwide Hyundai oil consumption issue w/ certain makes & models. I own a 2017 tuscon w/ just over 56k miles on it. Late last year, we drove my car from our home in ky to gatlinburg TN. While we were driving thru cades cove, my car acted up, so we found a local repair shop & they looked my car over & determined I needed 4 quarts of oil added! my car was almost bone dry!!! I recently finished my 3 trips to the dealership for the 'oil consumption tests' I'm not sure what was done to my car on each visit, except I do know on visit #2, they cleaned my engine/pistons & changed the oil. After that, I drove it aprox 1582 miles & 'lost' 3/4 of a quart of oil. They Hyundai CO seems to think this is acceptable, however, I do not!!! no vehicle should burn/leak/lose that much oil over a 1500 mile trip!!! I got no resolution regarding this issue, except I was told by my service tech to "keep an eye on the oil & add as needed" . . . Are you kidding me?? my car runs horribly & uses alot of gas now ( who can afford that??? ) I've owned Hyundai cars since 2006 & always loved them & the brand, but after this, I will never buy another one!!!!.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2023

March 6, 2023 the check engine came on and I came out of pocket $900 for new ignition coils. . A month later, the engine starts knocking and now they're saying that the engine is completely bad and would have to replace it. The engine burned alot of oil in that time. I was getting oil changes before the oil change mileage mark. I'm stuck at this moment because there is no recall for the engine for my VIN.

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2023

My Hyundai Tucson beginning at 65,000 miles began consuming more oil than normal. There was a transfer of title through a family member with the vehicle and was not aware that in that case the cars 100,000 mile warranty is no longer valid. It is then reduced to half that or 60,000, one of the 2. I brought the fact up to the service rep at Hyundai that it was going through a lot of oil and they stated that it was normal with multiple cars that Hyundai produced. The oil was burning off and no detection of leak and no check engine light has ever came on. It never over heated. I then brought this up to Hyundai at about 92,000 miles and thats when I learned about the warranty being voided because of the transfer. The car at the time is running just fine but still burning oil and still nothing from the dealership about any issues because the check engine light never came on. Until I was going home one day and the car began to stutter and losing power . It was struggling to produce power and I finally pulled over to a safe spot. It did not wanna start after that. I had it towed to Hyundai service center and they later told me that my engine needed a fuel system flush. They did that and I drove it just fine for about a month. Then it did the same thing only this time the check engine light finally came on. The code was giving them a misfire of 2 cylinders and was not holding enough pressure. They then said my motor was gonna need to be replaced and that threw me off. I feel like that should have been detected much earlier but without any sign of overheating or engine alarms it just kept running up until that point of the motor no longer running. I feel that if I were to get some kind of check engine light earlier in then it is possibly that this could have been avoided. I feel like this issue remains and is well overlooked to many of their vehicles. I just need a new engine not looking for money or anything else, just a car that is reliable and safe.

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2023

I took the vehicle in for a recall for unrelated issues to this problem at 90,000 miles (July 6 2022). The technician noted that the vehicle was leaking oil and it needed an oil pan reseal. I brought the vehicle back for this service on March 6 2023. Between the initial recall service and this service, I noticed that the vehicle was consuming a significant amount of oil, beyond regular consumption. On several occasions, after about 1000 miles after the oil was changed, I was adding 2-3 quarts of oil to the vehicle. Moreover, when the oil was changed, the technician who changed the oil, noted that the oil was very dirty despite only going 3000-4000 miles between oil changes. I mentioned this to the lehigh valley Hyundai service desk and that it was highly unlikely that an oil pan reseal would resolve this. They ordered an oil consumption test and instructed me to drive the vehicle for 1000 miles. I did this and brought the vehicle back in to lehigh valley Hyundai on April 1, 2023. They checked the oil, the technician ordered an oil combustion cleaning, and instructed me to drive the vehicle an additional 1000 miles before bringing it back in for the oil combustion test. During this period, I noticed that the vehicle lost a significant amount of power. During a drive back from widener university, I barely had enough power to drive up hills on the northeast extension and almost got into two wrecks due to the lack of power. I took the vehicle back to Hyundai on April 8, 2023 and notified them of this issue. They checked the vehicle out and notified me that the catalytic converter was clogged and needed to be replaced. They gave me a quote of $4000 to complete this service. This service was extraordinarily high priced compared to other mechanic services which cost between $2000-2500. I checked with other services and they indicated that they did not have access to the part and only Hyundai had access to the catalytic converter.

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2023

My vehicle did not accelerate when I pressed the gas - also I am low on oil and I’m not due for an oil change, meaning there is an oil consumption issue with the engine. Something is wrong with the engine/oil.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2023

The vehicle started exhibiting symptoms of oil consumption in February 2022 and I had it into the dealer because I thought there was a leak but there was lack of power and the car seemed like it wanted to fail. After months of adding oil due to the excessive consumption, it just stalled and died in February 2023. I received an extended warranty for 150,000 miles on the engine and the dealer denied my claim and placed blame on me because there was sludge in the engine, lack of maintenance records even though I provided thorough maintenance records.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2023

Vehicle is showing transmission issues that match recall issued for same vehicle and model, problems accelerating and misfiring which appears to be dangerous too drive.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2023

Engine fail, no warning till it happened, her car just stopped at night in the middle of the road while she was driving, she then smelled something burning and got right out of the car and called a tow truck. The car was towed to a Hyundai dealership where we were later told it was an engine block, and the car was basically burning gas. Cars been in the shop since January because the engine had to be shipped in parts from overseas. When the new engine had finally arrived, they took the old engine out and saw that the pistons headshot shrapnel through the starter and through this turbo part, which is also now on back order. I do not know if the vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer, or the police. I feel very uneasy about the safety of this vehicle given everything that’s happened and even though it’s showing that it’s not on the recall list from what I’m reading and what I understand everything that’s happened the vehicle should’ve been recalled. With the new findings of the shrapnel shooting through the car knowing that that could’ve been a catastrophic incident I could’ve killed my daughter is very unsettling. The car was purchased just under five months before this happened.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

The engine knocks norms oil fast after several oil changes and no visible leaks not good.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2022

Engine light and oil light stays on in the car. Car shaking really bad. Oil is evaporating in less than a thousand miles. 2017 Hyundai Tucson. Engine ticking noise and smells like fire. The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. I received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v727000 (engine). I previously took vehicle in to dealer for sae issue back in March of 2022. They said it was fixed and their were no other vehicle engine issues. I was driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. My warning light is illuminated. I was able to restart the vehicle and park the vehicle on the side of the roadway. The vehicle was not drivable. I took the vehicle to the local dealer who associated the failure with the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect. I have contacted the dealership 4 times and no one has called me back.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2022

The components that are malfunctioning are the gas nozzle entrance, and the dual clutch transmission. It’s available for inspection, and is being inspected currently at a dealership. My safety’s been put at risk to combustion when filling gas, resulting in risks of fire and/or explosion. The dual clutch affects my, and others, safety with major hesitation, jerking, and risk of stalling at any given time. The problem with sparking at the gas nozzle entrance has been reproduced and recorded by the dealership server al times. The dual clutch was diagnosed as faulty and replaced twice, both within a two and a half year span (from which I was told it will continually happened and need to be replaced down the road). The issues have been inspected by dealership, kengraff Hyundai surprise, arizona 85388. There were absolutely no warning lamps, messages, and/or symptoms of the problems.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2022

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson refuses to accelerate after a complete stop at a traffic light, or just refuses to change gears after making a turn, or simply just lose power although on cruise control while drive on the freeway. I have reported the issue several times to Hyundai and the dealership, it seems that nothing can't be done and Hyundai is not taking my concerns seriously. I am not afraid to drive the car since I have a long commute to work, I escape several accidents before because the other drivers were cautious and kind enough when they notice that my car couldn't accelerate. Drivers have blown the horn at me on the highway because the car refuses to accelerate or change gear while I am driving. I can press the gas pedal all the way down, still nothing. When I press the gas pedal down, the engine start shaking and making a weird noise while the car still not accelerating or changing gears. I also notice that I am burning more fuel than expected, and I always get below the average for typical mpg. I personally consider this car is unsafe to drive, and I am strongly thinking about trade it in.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

Car has 125,000 mi on it. This will be the 3rd catalytic converter in 2 years. Second one was March of 2022. I have excessive oil consumption (1qt every other week). Which I believe causes the exhaust system to clog. It’s an engine flaw design I believe. The issues isn’t the converter but the oil consumption contributing to the clogging. The vehicle actually had complete engine failure while I was driving on the interstate Dec 23, 2023 driving at 70 miles an hour! it was caused by the clogged converter! I could have died! thank you.

34 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2022

Vehicle throttle body sticks and causes hesitation when accelerating from a stationary position. This is a serious safety concern when turning in front of on coming traffic or cross at an intersection. This make, model, year vehicle has been recalled for this issue, but not every vehicle manufactured during the year “2017” was recalled, as my vehicle does not show up as a recall.

35 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2021

There is a problem with the transmission which doesn't allow us to accelerate fully. It usually happens when the truck is warmed up and very rarely happens when the truck is cold but the problem is that when you take off from a stoplight it does not accelerate like it should it holds back. You normally press down on the gas pedal to go and it just does not want to go and then it finally clicks in and the truck goes but then it goes right back to not accelerating. If I had to pass cars I don't have the power to do that or if I'm on the highway switching lanes it struggles to keep up speed and climbing hills on the highway it does not want to go and at times the rpms go a lot higher than they should when switching gears! I did read that the prior years to my Tucson did have a transmission recall but the 2017 does not.
